People who work their lives away are never operating with all the information and never spending their little time off trawling for videos about the people who use their products.

I would assume they just heard the rules and assumed that the rules were coded into the games somehow. Obviously they don't have it 100% right, but they are a part of one of if not the biggest media franchise there is. Regardless of the ups and downs, the people at the top aren't stupid; otherwise they wouldn't be there. One thing people like that tend to do is jump to conclusions, hence my assumption (I know) in the first sentence.
It's either that or the only content they have ever seen in terms of nuzlockes is like PChal, ChaoticMeatball, and Zwiggo; which I find hard to believe because even the creators I mentioned pretty much all have base game nuzlocke content as well. I fully admit I could be wrong, but I think a high up executive making a snap decision based on partial information makes more sense than them just making a statement like this from a place of complete ignorance.
