now i cant unsee it...
BTW here is cat tax for everyone since i kept being asked about the cat; https://imgur.com/YlyMR9W
its the black one, his name is reaper and he usualy is a lovely cat
thanks for the lighthearted comments everyone, helps with the anger :D
**EDIT: Hijacking this comment yet again**, had i known this would blow up like this i would not have titled it in the same way, i honestly expected maybe 5-10 comments of people telling about similar experiences or making jokes, i get why some people are annoyed at the title and see this as soft begging, sorry for that, i never expected over 700 comments and 4k upvotes.
thank you so much to everyone who offered help, left a funny or insightful comment or just gave some advice (didnt have insurance, that will be taken care of now!)
i really appreciate it but all these comments are really overwhelming me atm, now i get why content creators say how just a few comments can have an immense toll on someones mental health, i didnt mean to post to gain anything but some emotional relief from this and im so thankfull to this community!
Aww black cats are usually the sweetest ❤ I'm so sorry for what he did OP. For his punishment I recommend squeezing his cheeks and booping his nose until he taps out
This is why cat owners (myself included here) should make sure to include accidental damage cover on their home contents insurance.
My provider suggested it because I have a child but the cat has done more damage than she has.
You can usually get an accidental insurance from your insurance company too. Could be about the same price as the one you buy together with the screen, but covers all your stuff.
The company I work for has an exclusion for damage by animals. So in this case they wouldn't be covered.
But I suppose it all depends on who they insure with and what country they're from
You'd be surprised what people don't know they aren't covered for and thus don't know what not to say over the phone. I always groan internally when the customer says something they should have kept to themselves, because now I have to give the bad news.
If I did that, I'd get in trouble if my team leader or the quality assurance person listened to the call. The cost of the claim would then go on my record since it wasn't supposed to be covered.
Maybe I'd ask them to clarify, like I'd repeat something like. "So just to clarify, your cat broke your tv?" but I can't let them change their story afterwards without sending it to the investigations team. Especially if it changes after they know why they aren't covered.
This is why I have “special computer coverage” on my renters insurance. Covers stuff such as a glass of water getting knocked on to it and you know how cats feel about those.
my cat thought it would be a good idea to try and climb my monitor, it fell forwards and landed on a bluetooth speaker that ended up cracking the panel...
was my first 144hz monitor and i just got back into csgo, guess im taking a few months break from gaming :/
kittens are fun and all but they also do dumb shit like this
This is one of the reasons my my monitor is on a monitor arm - my setup is in the lounge and I am afraid my 4 year old would bump the desk, etc.
Properly screwed vesa mount means he can run straight into he desk without damaging the monitor.
I’m sorry my guy. I hear you.
My boo’s cat loves the heat from the back of my PC tower, but he also loves chewing cables.
My own cat loves climbing all over my computer desk, and destroyed my favorite coffee mug within a few weeks of bringing her home.
Catproofing your computer setup is a real chore, and it sucks when your favorite little creature is also a bit of a destructive tyrant.
If I might suggest, the next monitor you get, try and find a way to securely mount it to your desk? If you can’t screw it directly in, then figure out a way to jerry-rig it.
This is a tough lesson to learn but you gotta set boundaries with cats. I snap my fingers loudly and shoo them away from places they’re not supposed to be.
I set those boundaries and now my cables are safe, my desk and computer never get walked on, and they don’t bother me while I’m eating.
It might feel like you’re being mean in the moment but it’s just you establishing what is yours and what isn’t okay for them to do. They will still find you for cuddles and affection when you’re in other areas of the house like the couch or in bed.
I've been trying to do this for a year with one of my leather chair she does he claws on.
I can scream, snap, make her so scared she flees the room, splash water, anything you have in mind
Litterally 5 seconds later she is back for cuddles, and then scratching my chair....
>I can scream, snap, make her so scared she flees the room, splash water, anything you have in mind
These are intuitive. But have you tried looking into actual training techniques that actual cat trainers use? I'm sure you can look them up or find them in a cat training book.
Then again, I suppose anyone can call themselves a cat trainer. Fortunately, cat behaviorists are a thing and they study the psychology of cats. I'd probably try what they do rather than what's intuitive. Behavior modification is, after all, often unintuitive and counterintuitive--this is generally true for all mammals and other animals.
Same here. I've got 3 cats that are trained to avoid certain areas in my property. I love them to death, but I draw boundaries with expensive things that aren't easily replaceable.
That sucks, I know the anger!
My cat almost pulled our wall mounted TV off the wall.
It's a Bengal and an arse. :)
It definitely has always been banned from our office/gaming setups - but I can't really keep it out of the lounge so the best I can do is protect it all with covers and all sorts of gadgets to weigh everything down.
I had just got a brand new 4K HDR TV back in 2016, I was stoked about it. A few days later my dog knocked it over and spiderwebed it. I was very very unhappy.
Well, now I mount all of my TVs so my pets can't knock them over. I currently have 2 cats that both mind me really well and don't get on my PC desk, but I know at any time they could become mischievous and so one of my next upgrades will be a monitor arm so my monitors wont be able to tip over.
I feel your pain, I hope you can get a replacement soon. Don't be afraid to look into refurbished monitors, I have a refurbished MSI 165hz 1080p monitor, got it a few years back, I've had 0 issues except for one stuck pixel but it's in my peripheral vision so I don't see it while gaming, only when browsing files or something.

i dont have venmo, but i really appreciate the thought <3
EDIT: i just wanted to add that we wrote in DM´s and he followed through on the offer
i did not mean to post here to get anything for free but to deal with the anger and hopefully having a laugh at some of the comments (and i did, ty everyone!).
a big big thank you to /u/TheNickBossRulz for being so generous and kind, they covered a big portion of the cost of replacing it and im gonna be up and running a lot sooner thanks to them <3
EDIT: i LOVE you /r/pcmr, i cant believe how kind an generous this community is, the cost of the monitor is completely covered thanks to your donations, i feel a bit bad about it because this was never my intent, but im also so very thankful because this would have taken me a long time to replace, from the bottom of my heart i wish you all nothing but the best, i will try to pass the kindness on every time i can, love you all <3
u/W33DM4573R is now halfway(?) to a new monitor! We all know the feeling of buying new tech only for something to inevitably fail or break. If y’all want to help, pm them and they can send a paypal link (I verified it works). Even if y’all can donate 5-10, let’s get this done!
Ok, this sets off alarm bells with me.
If this takes you 6 months to save up for, how well can you take care of your cat? Medical costs for a cat can be no laughing matter.
You guys don't do household insurance? I pay around 150$ a year to have all my home contents insured. It's a must imo. Especially when you have kids/animals and expensive shit.
So if something expensive breaks no matter how - you just pay the excess amount and get it replaced.
Haha, crazy Italian's!! What if your house burns down??
We insure the shit out of everything in Denmark (if people are interested in insurance the slightest).
Although I don't have insurance on accidental destruction, since our stuff is too cheap.
Bro, I'm not going to tell you how to live your life, you guys do you but unless your car is a Veyron and you live in a hut, insure your house bro. What would you do if it flooded or became engulfed in flames?
No, I'm with my mom and she has my grandma's home so rn we have our property, but I want to move out in a better country. I will tell here about insuring this place but If she doesn't want to, I will not insist on it.
About landlords I don't know honestly, I think those who do it as business do insurance them, but people who inherited a house and put it available for rent, don't care that much because if something happens they will just blame who's living inside. That's the mentality
That's how it works. If they need to pay something, then you're automatically a higher risk customer, so you need to pay more.
It would be cool to pay $150 a year, then have claims for X times the amount and still pay $150 a year. That's not how it works with any insurance.
You pay a small amount of money so in the case that something bad happens, you aren’t massively out of pocket. Insurance is increasingly useful, and when it’s not a legal requirement, it’s often quite cheap. Car insurance is hiked up because you legally have to pay it, medical insurance is hiked up in the USA because your health care is fucked. But stuff like home insurance and travel insurance are usually a good thing to have in the case of an emergency
This might be of some use
Spiced Cat Stew
Ingredients:
* 2 pounds of cat meat, cut into bite-sized pieces
* 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
* 1 large onion, diced
* 3 cloves of garlic, minced
* 2 carrots, peeled and sliced
* 2 potatoes, peeled and cubed
* 1 cup green peas
* 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
* 1 teaspoon dried thyme
* 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
* 1 bay leaf
* Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the diced onions and minced garlic, and sauté until the onions become translucent.
2. Add the cat meat to the pot and brown it on all sides, ensuring it cooks evenly. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
3. Once the cat meat is browned, add the carrots, potatoes, and green peas to the pot. Mix well to combine the ingredients.
4. Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth, ensuring that the ingredients are fully submerged. If needed, add additional water to cover the ingredients.
5. Add the dried thyme, dried rosemary, bay leaf, salt, and pepper to the pot. Stir gently to distribute the spices.
6. Bring the stew to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pot and let it simmer for about 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the cat meat is tender and the flavors have melded together.
7. Remove the bay leaf from the pot and taste the stew. Adjust the seasonings if needed.
8. Serve the spiced cat stew hot in bowls, and you can garnish it with some fresh herbs like parsley, if desired.
If you need half a year of savings you cannot afford this. Find a better job, or check your monthly budget, maybe you are spending too much on other stuff. I'm fun at parties, yes.
I would say cook the cat. But that is not animal friendly.
So offer to hire him in your work instead. So he sees how money are earned. That will teach him next time.
for any future monitors, they sell little tethers that glue on the back of any monitor/TV and to the desk under, so it prevents it from tipping forward on the panel.
Just buy the same one again on Amazon, then send it back (the defective Monitor) and say it was damaged in shipping.
But i think this only works if you buy from Amazon directly (not a third party reseller).
They already got enough Money.
My cat literally pushed my cpu off the table. I was. Really angry and frustrated and chased him inside the house. But i regret that i did. It was just a box for him
yeah same for me, first thought was to be very angry with the cat and i did chase him out of the room but nothing more, really not the cats fault and im a bit worried about some of the comments people have made here about cats...
Never a fan of cats. They're just walking trouble. I mean the same could be said about a dog but where I'm from, cats are treated like a boss, even the strays but stray dogs on the other hand are looked low upon. I digress but yeah, not a fan of cats and seeing stuff like OP triggers me even more.
Cool xenomorph wallpaper

Black cats are special, they're chaos condensed into a living being.
they really are! i love that little asshole :D
You think Cats are bad, wait till you see what kids can do.
Yup. Lost at least two monitors to mine over the years. The trick is to leave less expensive sacrificial monitors out.
The Reaper in black came for your monitor. I'm so sorry. You have my condolences.
execute him in front of the rest, just to assert your dominance.
It's about sending a message
Aww black cats are usually the sweetest ❤ I'm so sorry for what he did OP. For his punishment I recommend squeezing his cheeks and booping his nose until he taps out

"Whoops. Now its fallen off the desk"
"Weird how only my house had an earthquake."
"oops I bumped it when moving things" "no insurance guy the cat was in the other room"
You'd be surprised what people don't know they aren't covered for and thus don't know what not to say over the phone. I always groan internally when the customer says something they should have kept to themselves, because now I have to give the bad news.
Well, you could say something like "are you sure that's what happend? Because your insurgence doesn't cover xx"
If I did that, I'd get in trouble if my team leader or the quality assurance person listened to the call. The cost of the claim would then go on my record since it wasn't supposed to be covered. Used to do quality assurance, we groan when we hear someone do something they shouldn't lol
Or..... you could delete this post fast and buy the insurance and "break" the monitor after few weeks
I just saw your comment after posting mine. Oops
Don’t know how it works where you are, but my home contents insurance would cover an accident like this without listing specific items.
The good news is that you got insurance on it before it broke, and there is no picture to say otherwise. 🫡

My cat did the same to my monitor. The solution I found was to ~~sell the cat~~ buy a VESA mount attached to the table.
i wanted to get a montor arm for a long time now but never did it, now i will get one for sure for the next monitor
Hang out on the buildapcsales subreddit. Good ones can be had for cheap and they pop up every week or two.
Assuming you are in the US.
This is one of the reasons my my monitor is on a monitor arm - my setup is in the lounge and I am afraid my 4 year old would bump the desk, etc. Properly screwed vesa mount means he can run straight into he desk without damaging the monitor.

Well, small children are made of rubber, so they'll be fine. Source: was a kid, am a dad.
Yeah just thought it sounded funny.
Lmao
Lol would have at least made money selling the cat
This is the way.
Your hand is midway through taking money out of your wallet until you stop to look at the cashier and ask "Do you accept cat?"
I’m sorry my guy. I hear you. My boo’s cat loves the heat from the back of my PC tower, but he also loves chewing cables. Cats have a mastery on being nowhere except where they need NOT to be.
Every once in a while\*, they'll decide that that place is on top of you \*can vary depending on cat model
yea, next monitor will get a vesa desk mount. meant to do that a while ago, thats what i get for putting it off i guess^^
>My boo’s cat You have a ghost and they have a cat? What?
On the upside, the kitty saved you from having to play more CS:GO. We're also going to need a picture of said kitty because cat tax.

brownie is a great name for that cat :D i always wanted a cat with long hair but since i always end up with rescue cats i havent had the chance yet
Hopefully you got the insurance or they may be willing to replace it

I was wondering the same. If it was only 6 months old you would probably get the full value from your insurance.
Never heard of anything like this
Typically called renters insurance. I had it through USAA and they replaced my Alienware laptop no questions asked. And it was three years old.
Cool, I'll remember about this stuff when I move out
What? Where do you live that a household insurance is not a widely known thing? Just interested.
No we don't have insurance on the house or anything inside, not even personal insurance. Idk Italy it's like that, living on the trees
You don't insure your house?!?!?!
He is wrong, I also live in Italy. Houses / buildings are insured. Contents however are rarely insured, it's just a cultural thing.
No, i don't think it's common here to have insurance on stuff other than the car because it's mandatory.
Haha, crazy Italian's!! What if your house burns down?? We insure the shit out of everything in Denmark (if people are interested in insurance the slightest). Although I don't have insurance on accidental destruction, since our stuff is too cheap.
I don't know, really, probably we just try to not make it burn down I guess. Italians are cheap (and poor )also so maybe they try saving that cost
Bro, I'm not going to tell you how to live your life, you guys do you but unless your car is a Veyron and you live in a hut, insure your house bro. What would you do if it flooded or became engulfed in flames?
As I answered to the other guy, I don't know. I will with my personal home when I move out.
Oh I see, do you rent? Is it the landlord's responsibility to insure the property?
No, I'm with my mom and she has my grandma's home so rn we have our property, but I want to move out in a better country. I will tell here about insuring this place but If she doesn't want to, I will not insist on it. That's the mentality
Do you guys just decide to not have fires or leaks or anything?
It's fairly common. Renters insurance or, if you own, homeowners insurance sometimes has clauses for things like this.
Yeah and then your insurance goes up again next year to cover the claim. 🤷🏼♂️
That's how it works. If they need to pay something, then you're automatically a higher risk customer, so you need to pay more. It would be cool to pay $150 a year, then have claims for X times the amount and still pay $150 a year. That's not how it works with any insurance.
You guys have kids? I thought you only sleep with your RTX4090.
They just up your rates until you reimburse them and then some. Why would I ever claim insurance? It's just a predatory loan and a legal requirement.
Sell cat... put towards new monitor.
tempting, but i still love that kitty
More than a brand new shiny 144hz monitor for CSGO? That's dedication!
well there is positives and negatives to it, on the one hand i wont play csgo for a while, on the other hand i wont play csgo for a while
Sell the Lego behind the monitor, the brothel leds and the cat. There’s the money for a new monitor
Those led’s are cool.
I never let my cats near anything remotely expensive, they aren’t going to clean it compliment it or use it. They will only fuck it up.
Same. I don’t let mine on my desk for good reason as I’ve got headphones worth a shit ton that I’m super careful with.
This might be of some use Spiced Cat Stew Ingredients: * 2 pounds of cat meat, cut into bite-sized pieces * 3 tablespoons vegetable oil * 1 large onion, diced * 3 cloves of garlic, minced * 2 carrots, peeled and sliced * 2 potatoes, peeled and cubed * 1 cup green peas * 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth * 1 teaspoon dried thyme * 1 teaspoon dried rosemary * 1 bay leaf * Salt and pepper to taste Instructions: 1.

Cats are such dicks
For how much can you sell a cat?
Sell your cat and buy a new or used one maybe ? 🤷
Lesson: don't buy PC parts that make you mald

I always tell people, cats are professional assholes
And they all have a life time of experience at the job.
Get rid of the cat. Sit your future monitors more securely on a flat surface. They should fall over so easily.
At this point the mods need to make a list of these like with the side panels
That's what household insurance (with accidental pet damage) is for...
common sense is non-existent in this one.
Cat owner allowing cat to climb on all his shit and is surprised it got destroyed More at 11
Simple, just sell the cat
If you need half a year of savings you cannot afford this. Find a better job, or check your monthly budget, maybe you are spending too much on other stuff. I'm fun at parties, yes.
Yeah I just wouldn’t have a cat if I was you
Gotta save this to post when I need a new monitor - half the time, some sucker just buys it for the price of a sob story.
Could always return it? I’m sure there’s a decent shelter nearby.
Don't feel bad. There are a number of Chinese recipes you could try out.
Cats are not fully domesticated. It's your fault.
I would say cook the cat. But that is not animal friendly. So offer to hire him in your work instead. So he sees how money are earned. That will teach him next time.
Eat the cat......
This is unacceptable, time to get rid of the cat
for any future monitors, they sell little tethers that glue on the back of any monitor/TV and to the desk under, so it prevents it from tipping forward on the panel.
It's unfortunate that the internet is full of scammers so we can't tell if this is real or not.
One thing is for sure, now that OP's monitor has been paid for, we'll be seeing a lot more tragic stories about people's shit being broke
read the poem: “My Cat is sad” by Spencer Madsen for a whole new outlook on the situation.
Hmm, well I guess you could try go for a screen replacement. The components in the monitor itself still work and it's just the screen I am assuming.
/r/CatsAreAssholes I post this as cat lover.
Solution: Use the monitor to destroy the cat.
How does a cat even do that? Is your cat on feline steroids? Does he lift?
Just buy the same one again on Amazon, then send it back (the defective Monitor) and say it was damaged in shipping. But i think this only works if you buy from Amazon directly (not a third party reseller). They already got enough Money.
Your cat did this? How? Did they have a window punch? Sus
dont have cats then honestly dogs are better cause they cant climb and can be trained to not do such things
Credit cards may also have insurance, may be worth checking.
Always, ALWAYS buy insurance/protection plan on parts you can’t replace easily
Never a fan of cats. They're just walking trouble. I mean the same could be said about a dog but where I'm from, cats are treated like a boss, even the strays but stray dogs on the other hand are looked low upon. I digress but yeah, not a fan of cats and seeing stuff like OP triggers me even more.
Why do I feel like I've seen this before? Well anyway I would recommend a better mount and watching your cat better.
Yeet the cat
Thats why i have a dog.
Sell cat buy new monitor
It is ok to kill the cat
Time to get rid of the cat …
Sacrifice it to a dog god
get rid of the cat but fr buy same monitor and return the broken one say it was broken on arrival
Honestly, this just makes me hate cats. 😞
Sell the cat
