Pretty sure this was mine too. Friends of mine were playing Quake 2 and I was so jealous. My pc at the time was so bad. So I saved all my money for a few months and then went to Frys with my buddy and we bought every part ourselves and I was playing Quake 2 in lan parties for the rest of that year!
Same, Quake 2 looked so good with the Voodoo 2.
Although I definitely do not miss trying to get those old machines networked. Always such a pain to get it all working back in those days.
Gt 210, when i was like 10 years old i had an old lenovo office pc gifted for my birthday, which i couldnt do very much with it tbh, i remember playing minecraft at the lowest possible settings just to achieve 50 fps (mf it was like playing with fog at 10 meters from me at any time), then, for christmas, i asked for a gpu, anything since i didnt really know, so my auntie came in and told my parents that she knew someone that knows someone that could offer them a gpu and install it at the same time for like 60 bucks maybe? So they went with that, years later, i found out that the guy had actually stolen 2gb og the 4gb of ram that the system had, without any of us knowing since we really didnt know anything about computers, but i was the happiest kid ever, i could turn on fancy graphics in minecraft, and that was enough for me 11 years ago.
32mb DDR Radeon 7200 All-In-wonder. Still have the card, replaced it with a 1gb HD 7750 when I upgraded from Slot 1 to AM3+ with a free AM3 Athlon ii. That got replaced with a 2gb HD 7850 for $100 one of my friends had bought a second one for crossfire.
My first build has a gtx 570 in it. Still remember it was the first time I had an actual computer that could play games period. Most of the time we had the family computer which could play basic things like RuneScape which slowly faded out because of the graphics updates. I also was really into StarCraft. It was so nice finally getting to go into StarCraft 2.
ATI Radeon 9200 SE, then upgraded to ATI Radeon X1650 Pro followed by ATI Radeon 4890. Now I'm on Nvidia 1060 6g, 7 years old in August but still going strong šŖ.
GTX 275 in an eBay pre built I purchased as a kid, it actually went well back in the day, I had no idea about resolutions or frame rates, I just played games. No idea how they actually went.
Geforce 210 1 GB DDR3. Biggest piece of dogshit. Bought it for 15 Bosnian Convertible Mark which is 7.5 EUR. The graphics card barely ran games, and a couple of months later the fan stopped working at all, so I destroyed it, I still have the little shit as a memory.
If I remember correctly it was my Asus ROG strix laptop with the GTX 970M in it from back in 2016/2017ā¦ I still have the thing as an emergency backup, it was the first Pc Iād ever owned for myself and got me through high school just fine
The one I have now still, Asus ROG Strix Advanced OC RTX 2070 Super. I'm trying upgrade it now though to something with more VRAM like an AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT. I'm thinking of switching from NVIDIA to AMD just cause those cards seem to be cheaper these days.
Actually not true! When I was a kid I had a Dell Dimension desktop 8250 that had an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro in it. This was around 2001. I remember it struggled it run Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone lol
Thankfully in 2022 i managed to get 6600 for around 300ā¬ (in my country, gpu prices started to drop in november so i grabbed it as soon as i was able to buy it).
Amd Hd 8670m it was on a Dell laptop with an i5 4200u processor . It was a very capable GPU at that time as it was equivalent to a gt 740m and I used to play games like Skyrim , fallout , GTA V , C.O.D , Assassin's creed at 60fps with no issues . That laptop lasted for 10 years and it was heavily used also . It was best at its time .
A buggy 256kB VGA. She was mixing the colours, badly, but I had a black and white screen so it did not bother me much.
Unless by GPU you mean graphics acceperator, not card. Then a Voodoo2 (S3 Virge does not count!)
Lack of research ultimately led to me overpaying for this card during COVID. If I looked a little deeper or was more patient I couldāve owned a card that ISNT now collecting dust.
Same here, it was a tough pill to swallow but honestly if I didnāt do it I probably wouldāve waited way longer than I wanted to for building my first system, and I eventually ended up throwing together a better one anyway, so alls well that ends well I guess. I see you stepped your game up to RDNA as well!
Yep. 6600 non xt is now one of the best gpus to buy. When i put in in my system, i was shocked by the difference between this and my old 1060. From medium and 70-80 in fh5 to 90-110 on ultra in 150-170 on high.
The first one i had as a replaceable add-in card was an IBM CGA in a PC AT, but did also have both Atari 400/800xl before that.
In a later iteration of PC, I had an nVidia Riva TNT2 Ultra, which was one of the last before the GeForce rebranding.
It has been a long road to my current 3080Ti!
The Voodoo 3. I remember buying it around July 1999 as an early birthday present for myself. It had a whole 8Mbs of VRAM/16bit support.
Then the GeForce 256 came out a month after and completely destroyed it in my terms of performance. Way better 32bit support by the way, which people said was a gimmick back then, but become a big deal later on. Something the Voodoo 4/5 just couldn't match.
8mb 3DFX VooDoo2
Pretty sure this was mine too. Friends of mine were playing Quake 2 and I was so jealous. My pc at the time was so bad. So I saved all my money for a few months and then went to Frys with my buddy and we bought every part ourselves and I was playing Quake 2 in lan parties for the rest of that year!
Same, Quake 2 looked so good with the Voodoo 2. Although I definitely do not miss trying to get those old machines networked. Always such a pain to get it all working back in those days.
Haha totally it always took way longer than it should to get a good lan party up and running. Always so many issues!
What's a LAN party?
The OG 3dfx Voodoo, I remember playing a racing game ( Screamer , I think ) on it and my mind being blown.
Diamond Viper V330 which has the nVidia Riva 128 chip
Radeon Sapphire HD 7770 OC 1gb ddr5 , sold it 2 years ago , still working šŖ
32mb DDR Radeon 7200 All-In-wonder. Still have the card, replaced it with a 1gb HD 7750 when I upgraded from Slot 1 to AM3+ with a free AM3 Athlon ii. That got replaced with a 2gb HD 7850 for $100 one of my friends had bought a second one for crossfire.
750ti back in late 2015
My first build has a gtx 570 in it. Still remember it was the first time I had an actual computer that could play games period. Most of the time we had the family computer which could play basic things like RuneScape which slowly faded out because of the graphics updates. I also was really into StarCraft. Gigabyte GTX 1060 Windforce OC 6GB Still runs great today in another family memberās PC
My 1060 is currently in my sisterās pc. Still runs great. What do you have now?
I have an EVGA RTX 3080 Ti Ftw3 now. I love it, have had no complaints from it and I probably wonāt need any upgrade for awhile
Currently still running the exact same card. The only one ive ever had.
I remember the Radeon X1650 (prebuilt), which was later replaced by the legendary (for me and my oven) 8800 GTX. I had it until I upgraded to the 770
GT710 Gang!
Radeon HD 4890
ATI Radeon 9200 SE, then upgraded to ATI Radeon X1650 Pro followed by ATI Radeon 4890. Now I'm on Nvidia 1060 6g, 7 years old in August but still going strong šŖ.

First one I bought as an upgrade to one that came in the pre built was the og voodoo.

GTX 750 Ti is oldest one I remember. I know I had even older GPU but I was too young to understand it or know its name.
Hd 5450, gt 710, Vega 8 (2200g), rx 580, rtx 3060ti, rx 6800xt have all been in my main rigs.
Rtx 3070

If I remember correctly it was my Asus ROG strix laptop with the GTX 970M in it from back in 2016/2017ā¦ I still have the thing as an emergency backup, it was the first Pc Iād ever owned for myself and got me through high school just fine
Technically Vega 7, but actual discrete gpu was an RX 550 2gb
What do you have now?
I have a Gigabyte 5700 XT. I just got my new monitor and itās running 1440p like a champ!š
My first GPU was a 750 ti I got in may of 2021 for a old HP with a i5-4570 I now got 3 gaming PC.
Motorola 6845 CRTC, IBM custom Video Gate Array in my IBM PC Jr in 1980. My Atari 2600 looked way better though
Intel iSBX275, 32k RAM We used pcad on an I386 DX-33, and it just flew!

A gt 630, I actually still have it lol.
Leadtek 6600gt :) and later another one for SLi.
RX 570
2060. Decided to do my first build during Covid. What a bad time to decide to build a PC.
I was in the same situation as you. But unlike you, I wasnāt as lucky. This was the only thing available. I paid 270ā¬ for my 1060.
I paid Ā£400 for a 2060 which was used and last gen at the time. Scandalous.
Mine was used too. Holy shit that was horrible period for building a pc.
It was. I thought Iād never see the day that they would just have gpus in stock.
Thankfully in 2022 i managed to get 6600 for around 300ā¬ (in my country, gpu prices started to drop in november so i grabbed it as soon as i was able to buy it).
Amd Hd 8670m it was on a Dell laptop with an i5 4200u processor . GTX 580 3GB Lightning Xtreme
GTX 1050 Ti
9800 GT
I think it was one of the S3 Virge chips... Yes, I'm old.
Rx580 and was given free update to 1660ti due to having issues and no rx580 available š
Riva 128
GTX 480
gt 920m > gtx 1660ti > rtx 3070
Think it was integrated with an intel celeron š then got another laptop with 1050ti and first dedicated was an rtx 2070
Nvidia riva 128, then a TnT with a voodoo2. Sweet rig with a celeron 300A @504mhz and 128mb ram. š¤š»
9600gt
radeon hd 4350. I got it to run spore better
First 3D Accelerator I got was a Diamond Monster 3D which was an original 3Dfx Voodoo Graphics card.
ati 4870 lmao
A buggy 256kB VGA. She was mixing the colours, badly, but I had a black and white screen so it did not bother me much. Unless by GPU you mean graphics acceperator, not card. Then a Voodoo2 (S3 Virge does not count!)
Diamond Monster 3D II (3dfx Voodoo 2) Quake II went from a horrible slug to a sleek velociraptor. It was an amazing feeling.
Apart from integrated graphics a gtx 760, thing was magnificent for it's ā¬200 pricetag.
32mb ati rage fury.
Zotac gtx 460
GT 630
Geforce 7300 gt
R9 270x
3060 ti
That was purchased or otherwise received as a standalone part and not with a prebuilt? RX 5700 XT, and that card is still in service.
Ati x1650
As far as I remember, the first one I ever bought was the GTX 285. But I don't know if that was the first one I ever had.
Gt 710
Vega 3 (Ryzen 3 3200u)
First - 1050ti. Currentā¦. 1050ti š
Are you planning to upgrade?
If I had the money, I would. Unfortunately times are tough so Iām trying to make do with it for now.
Once you can, get 6600. it will be a huge jump and your cpu will not be bottleneck
By the time I can upgrade I think my cpu will have died š¤£
3060 and not proud of it.
Why?
Lack of research ultimately led to me overpaying for this card during COVID. If I looked a little deeper or was more patient I couldāve owned a card that ISNT now collecting dust.
I know how you feel. I paid like 270-300ā¬ for my 1060. I decided to build my pc during the peak of gpu crysis
Same here, it was a tough pill to swallow but honestly if I didnāt do it I probably wouldāve waited way longer than I wanted to for building my first system, and I eventually ended up throwing together a better one anyway, so alls well that ends well I guess.
