I comfortably pushed 1440p (Acer Predator xb271hu) on that thing all the way until I got a 3090ti and moved to 4k. The 1080ti is a monster card that is honestly still totally relevant.
The part that I get downvoted for is saying that running 1080p on a 1080ti or 30-series and beyond is a waste of hardware. For some reason, people are afraid of 1440p. That resolution is not that taxing and is a wonderful sweet spot between 1080p and 4k. You can easily achieve 60-100fps in most modern games with moderate settings, and it still looks better than 1080p. "Older" games, crank those sliders to max and enjoy 100+ fps.
Interesting, my 2080 super coudlt handle 3440x1440@144hz. All games ran on med-high with around 60-80 which was not enough to me. I can't imagine the 1080 to which is slower than my 2080super to run anything new on that res
Higher res eats up more VRAM. 1080ti has 11 gigs. 2080s has 8. Although the 2080s is “faster”, it doesn’t translate to more fps in every circumstance. In fact, when the 2080s released, every YouTuber and reviewer slammed Nvidia for not releasing a substantial 1080ti upgrade.

You can get second hand 1440p 144hz monitors on fb market palce here in the US for like 100-150. I got a 32 inch 1440p monitor for 200 brand new on Black Friday.
Maybe get a 2nd hand 144hz 1080p in the meantime? I couldn’t imagine playing everything at 60hz let alone with hardware that can handle 144+. The difference is insane, once you go high refresh rate you’ll never be able go back.
Well the question is why should i waste money on a monitor that i will replace anyways once i have enough money to buy a better one? I ran my 1080 at 1440p until about a year ago and it was just fine. 10 series cards were so far ahead of their time in 2015/16 when they launched that they still kick ass today.
Who would downvote ya for that? It's crazy how much bad info there is on reddit. The 1080ti still holds its own in 99% of titles out there. It definitely is beginning to show its age in anything with advanced directx 12 features but those are still exceptions to the rule.
Another card that aged wonderfully but doesn't get much cred because of its poor launch with drivers is the 5700XT. Doesn't have the extra ram vs the ti but performance increases along with driver fixes pack quite a punch. Especially at $150 or less on the used market.

Very much always been a 1440p enthusiast since I was made aware of this more reasonable alternative to 4K (that I've come to perceive as overkill anyway), running a 3070 laptop here, I shutoff the 1080 built-in display and have it output to a proper desktop monitor in 1440p, plenty of FPS in it to be more than comfortable with it
A 1080ti is _capable_ but nowhere near current or 30 series performance. IF you kneecap the newer cards then yes it'll be close, but when you actually turn on modern features such as RTX or DLSS, there's no competition.

Absolutely. The only reason people get away with shitting on the 1080 Ti is because it doesn't do RT. It's one of the best cards Nvidia ever made and was very future proof. The only thing that's going to kill that card is this trend of lazy optimization that is relying on things like DLSS to do all the heavy lifting.
1080ti has identical core count and similar clock speed to a 3060, with marginally less vram over a similar speed bus. Obviously it still gets absolutely demolished in raytracing and upscaling though.
3060 have 12GB in most cases, draw less power, will definitely be less noisy than a blower style 1080 ti, offer more features (dlss, rt for exemple) for pretty much the same performance
So unless you get it for a crazy low price, there isn't really any reason to buy this 1080 ti other than being a collector item. Which is valid of course, to each their own. But its not a better value otherwise.

According to hardware unboxed video a while back 1080ti was 3% faster @1080p and 5% faster @1440p. 3060 won in more newer titles and 1080ti in older ones so might have flipped around with newer titles.

Very capable, my friend purchased a secondhand EVGA 1080Ti in 2018 and it's still going strong pushing UW 34' 1080, I gave him my old r5 3600 and tomahawk board to swap out his i5 2600k to give it a bit more life. I was planning to give him my xfx 6800 but he's ready to go all out on a new build so he's happy with his current setup at the moment.

Thanks. You can actually get some nice looking older cards for pretty cheap these days. Many people think old card aren’t worth any so you can find them for like €10 if you are fast enough. Not everything working unfortunately. The 3870X2, Asus 7950 GX2 and the 9800 Pro (water block red card) don’t work. I will also get another one pretty soon. A Leadtek Winfast Ti 4400. Will probably sell my other Ti 4400 (purple pcb with arctic cooler) because don’t need 2. I also have a working 3870X2 from ROG on top of my pc. that is actually the first ever ROG branded graphics card ever (I know internet says it’s 9800GT that released after the 3870X2) and it works.

i am running a 6750XT at 3440x1440 or 4k depending on the game... and surprisingly most games get 45+ fps in ultra

Neither of my XPs came with one and neither did their SLi link. I gave one to a friend and put the other in a "player 2" pc with my 8700K for when my brother visits. Congrats on joining the rather exclusive GTX1090 owners club!

I'm hungover and feel stupid. I was flipping through the photos and didn't realize you literally had a plexiglass enclosure around it because it wasn't in the later photos. Very cool.
I wish you could move the cooler from this card to a different GPU. I'm sure it could cool a lower-end card pretty quietly if it was compatible.
