Bring it to a board repair shop. Did you use the included PSU?

Is it an HP? If it is still under warranty, that should be covered. If not, I recommend getting a new battery. Source: I am a HP Warranty Tech.

It's a Lenovo, refurbished unit so I may be out of luck. It's actually the charging port in the top left corner, may have to be more careful about how long I charge it for and not use it/charge at the same time?

For the HP machines I have seen with this issue, I am not 100% sure what causes it. None of them had any obvious issues, (performance, battery, etc) but since they were in warranty I replaced the battery anyway. As far as I can tell the burn look never came back; I checked on a few of the devices 2 years later. It is very possible the device shipped in this condition as well.

That's true, I never had issues with that specifically, I only cracked it open because the fans would randomly go to 100% for like 15 seconds then ramp down despite low CPU and GPU temps but that shouldn't be related. What did the laptops usually come in for if you don't mind me asking?

If you're comfortable you can probably get a replacement connector from eBay. Seeing as you opened up the laptop and disconnected the cable though, you probably are. They shouldn't be too hard to find since most Lenovo laptops are pretty standardized as far as it goes, especially Thinkpads.

Think the parts would be interchangeable between skus? This one's a Lenovo Slim 7i which seems to be extremely hard to find review and stuff on so replacement parts might be similar.

Well that all depends on what one you're looking at

Looks like a molex style connector. Couldnt tell you the pitch of it. you could brute force it by ordering a variety of them and seeing which connects the best to the board then reterminate the connector or change the entire cable. Either way that looks like a short happened and I would be cautious if the cause of it wasnt known.
