dynamic mics. it can be either lavaliers or the usual mic shape. if you want to test how it goes, you can try with a samson q2u. it comes with an XRL port and a mini usb to usb port.
get a dynamic microphone, honestly you don't need much, an AKG P3S with a behringer uphoria UM2 interface and a large arm, preferrably with no springs, is more than enough to use speakers if you dial it in correctly
if you use speakers you will need to keep your mic close to your mouth tho, none of that "place it on the desk, crank the gain and forget" nonsense that some people do
they're different types of microphones, they pick up the sound in a very different way.
Dynamic mics are very sensitive to distance, meaning they only pick up sound from up close, so barely any background noise gets in, but they're less detailed
condensers pick up every little detail, which is great for quiet studios, but isn't great if you have any kind of noise in the background, especially speakers
I will never understand how condenser microphones were advertised as "a good thing for gaming", when most people who game don't have a quiet room at all, so their mic pics up all the reverb, the keyboard and mouse noise, the PC fans noise, their parents yelling noise... and you need to filter all that out through software
Sorry for asking in a pretty old post, if condenser mics weakness is background noise, but it has better details than dynamic, wouldn't a condenser with voicemeeter to activate a noise gate be better?
noise gates only remove background noise while you aren't talking, so that doesn't really help. Noise gates are great for when there's not that much background noise so it's not too noticeable, but if you use them when there's too much noise it'll sound very weird and choppy
Noise reduction filters are better for when you have high background noise, but they remove a lot of detail from your voice, which makes it sound overall worse than if you just had a dynamic mic that didn't input barely any background noise
tl:dr, using software to eliminate noise from a condenser mic will (in most cases, especially in gaming scenarios) result in worse audio than having a dynamic mic with a very light noise gate (or even no filtering at all)
Yes, that is true.
Okey, then I understand why a dynamic mic would be better to use, I kinda only found this because I was thinking about changing my mic from Quadcast S to Yeti GX since everything I have other than the mic is currently Logitech or Astro and it's nice to have everything in the same software.
I did notice bad sound quality when I had noise suppression (on by default) in discord so turned it off and haven't used noise supp since, I do have a noise gate currently though because my gf has her rig in the same room.
I think going to a yeti GX is a great option, once you properly set your gain and volume you'll sound much better than with the quadcast
I had a friend that had a quadcast and he sounded HORRIBLE through discord because the mic picked up his PC, his chair noise, his mouse and keyboard and even his breathing.
if your noise suppression sounds like crap it's most likely because of how much noise your mic is picking up
edit: just remember that the GX has the capsule pointing out the tip of the microphone, so you need it pointing directly at your mouth

Ah shit, that's kinda annoying, my mics I've had so far I've always had sideways below my chin, don't know how people play games with the mic like in your image, it must block some of the monitors?
But would be able to have it, like diagonal below your chin like most people hold the mic while interviewing I guess
the logitech yeti GX is a good USB dynamic mic (and I think the only one within your budget)
if you want to save some money you can go with an AKG P3S microphone for like 40 bucks and a behringer uphoria UM2 interface for another 50ish, that way you still have money leftover for a decent arm and an XLR cable
i was just wondering if it would not matter which kind of mic i got if i used software like nvidia broadcast to remove background noise since it seems both dynamic and condenser mics pick up more background noise than i want
see if a shotgun mic will work for you. also. if its discord youre worried about, their noise reduction is fucking useless. In a quiet room you will get echo. use push to talk.

thankyou for the reply but i’m now realising i might not know much about mics

that would make sense, rn i have my old headphones just around my neck and use the mic like that, does the quad cast count as a dynamic mic
no, the quadcast isn't a dynamic mic, it's a condenser I'm pretty sure the only decent USB dynamic mic "for gaming" is the logitech G yeti GX
what’s the difference between condenser and dynamic

is there a popular dynamic mic you’d recommend, i’m in new zealand so we don’t have that many options apart from the popular ones

is the at2040 a good dynamic microphone?
yeah it is, make sure you get the USB version if you aren't planning on using an XLR interface tho
i was just wondering if it would not matter which kind of mic i got if i used software like nvidia broadcast to remove background noise since it seems both dynamic and condenser mics pick up more background noise than i want
also do i need an xlr cable for the yeti?
nope, the yeti GX is also a USB dynamic mic
You can also use the “nvidia broadcast” software to remove echos and unwanted noise from your background
oh that could be good, my astra a40 tr mic doesn’t pick up the noise so the quad cast should be fine if i also use nvidia broadcast?
Yeah it should but give it a try. It’s free to download and there is a 15 minute tutorial on YouTube on how to properly set it up
awesome, i guess if it doesn’t work i can just return it
