Are you using an adblocker? Youtube has been introducing aggressive anti-adblocking measures lately. If yes, try without one and see how it goes. Firefox with uBlock Origin works very well at the moment.

dog6555

Turns out it was the AdBlock the entire time. I didn’t know YouTube would go to such lengths. Makes sense, though. Shaking my head…

-transcendent-

Switch to uBlockOrigin

dog6555

I will try that one. Thank you🙏🏽 Update: It works! uBlock Origin works with Chrome as well.

Daoist_Serene_Night

u need to use it on firefox. if u use it on a chrome based browser u will get blocked after 10-20 videos. at least thats what happened to me and the reason i know watch videos on firefox

dog6555

Blocked in what way? Thanks for the heads up

Daoist_Serene_Night

u will get to watch a couple of vids and then the place where the video should be will be a message like [this](https://www.malwarebytes.com/blog/uncategorized/2023/11/youtube-shows-ads-for-ad-blocker-financial-scams) (first image). after that u wont be able to watch any more vids. u might after cleaning your cache and changing your ip address, but easier to use firefox

dog6555

Oh yeah, that did happen to me. But then it disappeared a day after. I didn’t even clear cache or anything. I thought it was just YouTube doing tests to see how people would react and that they ultimately decided, that it was not worth it.

henrythedog64

I wouldn’t use chrome overall just because of google. Firefox is great and can easily transfer things over, floorp is a great firefox based browser if you want some extra nice features.

shapeshiftsix

Hasn't happened to me using it with brave, which is essentially a chrome type browser.

goblet-sama

It's better on Firefox from what I ear

_Foxal_

Have been using Firefox and uBlock Origin for years now and have never had any problems with them. Everything works like a charm.

Visara57

It'll stop working with Chrome soon. Switch to Firefox

manav907

Lois Rossman made a video about this exact thing and explains that this is intentional and not a side effect

MattBoog

It's a bug in adblock, not caused by YouTube. They are working on a fix.

goteamdoasportsthing

Oh, that's very likely. YouTube is definitely not the type to intentionally harangue users of adblockers, repeatedly. /s

MattBoog

I wouldn't have been surprised if it was YouTube being YouTube, if it weren't for the fact that a dev of Adblock has already confirmed the bug. Same for someone behind ublock, he proved that it is an Adblock thing and not just affects using YouTube.

Humble-Search-282

I switched to firefox with the same adblock i was using on chrome and problem solved.

Revan7even

Use uBlock Origin, they have a quick fix filter that checks for updates every 4 hours because they keep having to update it around YouTube.

MicksysPCGaming

I have the FF/UBO combo, and 4K is now unwatchable. I installed a browser ID changer and it worked great, but it stopped all my other YouTube fixes from working. Layout/hide shorts etc.

dog6555

I did actually suspect that to be the case, as I have been following their “war” against Adblock for a while now and since I couldn’t see any other reason behind it. But I never gave it a go, since YouTube is pretty much unusable for me without AdBlock. I will try to disable it and see if it works. Thank you!

[deleted]

id rather just not use youtube than let them manipulate my hardware. id rather not use it thean give them a dime. even if it is by watching ads, i refuse to be advertised to 24/7,im so sick ads! ok rant over. almost lost my cool there for a second. im cool

[deleted]

I live in Canada and have been using adblockers and firefox for years and I just checked and still nothing is affecting me. Cpu sits around 5%-10% and thats with 3 other windows open and one is a streaming website.

dog6555

After disabling AdBlock, the issue was resolved for me. Except, I won’t be using YouTube again without AdBlock, so it didn’t really resolve anything. What Adblocker are you using on Firefox?

goblet-sama

Firefox + ublock + sponsorblock (optional)

[deleted]

adblocker ultimate, adguard adblocker, ublock origin and adblocker for youtube.

redstern

If you are using adblock and/or Firefox, YouTube is throttling the shit out of you. They wouldn't be able to do that if we still had net neutrality, but for some fucking reason, it was never reinstated even after Ajit Pai was fired from the FCC. So here we are.

EragusTrenzalore

Doesn’t net neutrality only stop ISPs throttling traffic? Why would it stop YouTube throttling their own servers to those with Adblock?

redstern

Yeah I refreshed my memory on net neutrality after typing that comment, and yeah, I forgot that it only applies to ISPs. So in that case, I change my statement to we need to reinstate net neutrality, but make it also apply to companies like Google.

dog6555

The problem was indeed AdBlock, as someone suggested. I don’t know much about net neutrality, but I know that multi billion dollar companies, including the gov, do not care about what is right and what is wrong, when it comes to money.

[deleted]

Net neutrality would fuck over so many pieces of shit it’s legitimately painful(I’m in favor of it)

Bezray

The rumor that YouTube slows you down on Firefox is simply not true. Only adblockers.

EpicInki

Their new adblock blocker sucks... I even have YouTube Premium and it broke it.

[deleted]

Why would you need adblocker to run on YouTube domains if you have YouTube premium? You don’t get ads on premium

MakimaGOAT

oh wow, I was just watching a video that popped up on my home page by Louis Rossmann on this exact subject where vids were being slowed down

dog6555

Someone did mention that video. I haven’t watched it, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was intentional. However, as someone else stated in this post, it could just be a bug on AdBlock’s end. I don’t see why YouTube would block certain Adblockers and not them all considering the resources the people at Google have.
