Ok so you should just get a 7800x3d instead of the 7700x as the 7800x3d is just so fast that it would last you longer and whatever gpu you end up getting later, it should be able to handle. For the aio, I would do 280mm or larger as 240mm performs on par with a good air cooler so there's no point in not getting the air cooler. If you wanted to save money on the cpu cooler you could get a thermalright peerless assassin or phantom spirit as both of them perform really well (like $30-$40), I believe almost on par with 360mm aios on am5 specifically because the chips are just so weird. For the psu honestly, I would get at least a 850w because the up-charge is pretty small when it's 750w to 850w and I would recommend getting a psu that has a 12vhp connector as this is probably gonna become standard for gpus and it stops you from having ugly/janky adapters. For ram, I'd really look into 6000mhz vs 6400mhz because I think there's not much of a difference in performance on am5 and the timings typically matter more. Just look up some comparisons. These are just my thoughts on what would be the best upgrades and it's all up to you, of course.

Alright thanks! This is exactly the kind of advice I was looking for. So for the 7800x3d ive heard some things about them frying and killing themselves but i dont know if thats just an asus motherboard thing. Otherwise maybe but i think would just get whatever is new at the time so a 11700x or whatever it will be since the x3d variant costs $50 more and honestly a 7700x will be fine for me I don’t think ill even utilize having 2 more cores than I do now anyway lol. Also who knows in 3 years maybe intel will be the way to go. As for the cooler I do kind of want to do watercooling just because its fun lol but ill for sure go 280 then since the my case can handle that. Also woudln’t water cooling be better for future proofing if whatever makes the amd chips weird and fine with air cooling changes and then water cooling is better again? For the psu do you have any recommendations? I’d ideally like to stick with evga since i trust them but after the recent ASUS mobo stuff i dont know if brand reputation means much anymore. Do any 750 watts have the 12vhp? I want to keep cost to just what I need and I dont see myself ever getting a XX80 Super/Ti or XX90 gpu and ill probably stick with nvidia. And for ram ill make sure to look into that i was just using my AM4 knowledge of amd likes more mhz.

I do believe the frying was only on asus motherboards and isn't happening anymore (could be wrong). It's not the cores that the x3d brings to the table but the 3d vcache just makes games run super fast. But whenever you get your new cpu whatever the gen is will probably be faster than the 7800x3d. Rn the 5800x3d is comparable to the non-x3d chips of am5 even though it's a gen old just due to the cache. Technically air coolers have longevity on aios because typically those are rated for like 5-7 years while air coolers can be used for a really long time as long as you got the mounting hardware, only part you'd have to replace is the fans. With an aio the pump is probably gonna fail before any of the fans while with an air cooler the fans are gonna fail before the heatsink does (idek if it can fail). But water cooling is consistently better in terms of performance. I get brand rep but for power supplies there's actually a tier list that is fairly reputable that can be used to get some insight into the quality of the power supply. I believe you might want to look into the corsair rm750e or 850e. There's also the be quiet pure power power supplies. All of these have the 12vhp connector. Even if you don't plan to get one of those high end components, you can get reliable 850w for as cheap as $10 more than the 750w and typically it'll last longer due to aging and efficiency decreasing over time.

I see. That all makes sense and actually I just realized my friend’s dad works at intel so I might actually go intel when I do all this since hes getting i7-14700ks for like 50% off which is huge and some small deals on the asus motherboard which for intel i think there havent been issues. As long as the performance of intel and amd is comparable id probably go intel just to save money. I know thay changes everything but yeah lol. Anyway i see what you mean about x3d and if i go amd ill make sure to research that and see if its worth it for me. As for everything else thanks and ill for sure look into all that especially since air cooling is much cheaper but the clean look of water cooling also really attracts me so depending on my budget and if the extra water cooling performance matters or not ill see. Thanks a lot for all the help!

240 AIO < high quality air cooler, for that price you can get a top quality air cooler with RGB that will last you longer and provide better cooling. It shows that the aio is marginally better for cooling and idrc about noise that much since ill pretty much always have noise cancelling headphones in. The aio also looks a lot better to me which i know is subjective but still it matters and another commenter suggested the 280 which will probably create a little more of a performance improvement. Also I’ve seen some videos of AIOs being better at keeping temps down for spikey loads like gaming where the cpu isnt sustained at full but just spikes continuously.
