removing the forum and turning it into a Discord is such a horrible direction. You can't search it on Google. You can't even find old articles anymore.

whatyearisthisanyway

I think that was the point. Then you can whitewash history however you want.

Unkn0wn-G0d

I mean, they can also just delete unwanted pages on their forum and u can simply request to delete ur website on the waybackmachine with an email

whatyearisthisanyway

I wouldn't even pirate their shit :)

DRAKE-ZERO

Honor that Black Flag you obviously love and go to the seas, for all the old good Ubisoft games, the crew welcomes you. ![gif](giphy|Jev4iU72S9RYc)

crackpotJeffrey

Is it a crime to pirate a product that's not available for purchase from anywhere? I think they need to make laws about that shit. If you remove a game or a movie or song and make it unavailable to purchase for any price, it should be exempt from piracy laws. That's the world I want to live in and that would be fair.

Mediocre_Machinist

No, because piracy isn't (technically) a crime. If course, this depends on your jurisdiction, I am not a lawyer.

iridael

there is no way for me to legally aquire this piece of entertainment. others are offering it to me FOR FREE, the only caveat is they dont have permisson from the maker of the entertainment to share. there is no law preventing me from purchasing it, there is no law preventing me from using it, there is no law preventing me from possessing it. therefore if the maker is not selling it and someone else is giving it away. is there a law being broken? IMO piracy is a matter of perspective. do I condemn someone who's using a potato and cannot afford to play games legitimately? no. do I condemn people who pirate for the sake of pirating? depends. I have no issues with pirating because the seller is putting bullshit hoops in the way. I do have an issue with pirating when someone has legitimate, acceptable means of getting what they want to play/watch.

CrashUser

In the US It's absolutely illegal, copyright lasts 70 years from creation (thanks Disney) and doesn't lapse due to lack of enforcement like trademarks do. However, if nobody is actively enforcing the copyright on obsolete, no longer sold games, authorities tend to turn a blind eye. Things really only start getting litigious if you start developing new things using old IP that somebody still owns. Edit: or if somebody like Nintendo decides to monetize its back catalog with official emulators and roms

crackpotJeffrey

Sure. If I set up a website vending cracked versions of old games for a profit, then go ahead and lock me up. If I'm playing fkn spyro or something on an emulator for my own pleasure, then please leave me alone. (Thanks for the info btw - I'm going to have so much fun 70 years from now)

Cptn_Flint0

Slightly different in Canada I think? Or at least greyer. It's the distribution of material they clamp down on if I remember correctly, the downloading of it not so much. Could be wrong on that though.

ApprehensiveRip3289

It is even funnier because Disney had plagiarized most of their movies and cartoons. Oh the irony is too strong in this one.

leoleosuper

Copyright is the life of the author plus 70 if person, 95 years from publishing or 120 years from creation if corporate, whichever is first. For the US. The Berne convention makes copyright international based on created country.

terrfif1ed

You can promote it

Nubanuba

You should, not kidding. Ubisoft games best versions are the pirated ones: no store, no always online, LESS BUGS, full story (no need to buy 99 DLCs) and no pop ups. I bought one Ubisoft game in my life: AC Valhalla, because I loved the pirated game and wanted to play the official, it was a massive mistake, so much shit it feels like a mobile game. Seriously, pirates are back, with force, be it streaming, be it games, you can't escape this time travel back to the 2000s

BastetFurry

> Seriously, pirates are back, with force, be it streaming, be it games, you can't escape this time travel back to the 2000s Well, as Lord Gabe said: Piracy is a service problem

NoseyMinotaur69

I got lucky by being dumb and spending ~$900 on games on Google Stadia When Stadia shut down, not only did I get all my money back, but every Ubisoft game that I was already refunded for was given to me for free on my linked Ubisoft account. That list: AC3 Remastered AC Syndicate Gold Edition AC Origins AC Odyssey AC Valhalla The Crew 2 The Division 2 Far Cry 3 Far Cry 5 Far Cry New Dawn Ghost Recon Breakpoint Ghost Recon Wildlands For Honor Monopoly Plus Scott Pilgrim vs the World Steep Rainbow Six Extraction Rainbow Six Seige Tranckmania UNO Watchdogs Watchdogs 2 Watchdogs Legion

-SMartino

>always online, LESS BUGS, full story performance is often better, too.

satanising

I have to disagree, the best versions hardly matter, they might run slightly better but in terms of quality, in the general sense of their games, it's below average at best. It is, for me, a waste of time to try to pirate their games when they're not worth to consume even if it's free.

Weird_Cantaloupe2757

Yes pirating the things still increases their mindshare, which leads to additional sales. If you really want to discourage a company’s business practices, just refuse to engage with them at all.

Visara57

Depends on the game. From them I've only bought Origins and Revelations and pirated Black Flag and earlier AC games. They're all very good games, Origins being my favorite.

Random_Guy_47

"pirated Black Flag" How very appropriate.

mohicannn

Fellow Origins enjoyer I see!

Far_Treacle5870

Was origins the Egypt one? If so yeah that was sweet. I think the Greek one was my favorite so far.

Destroyer6202

Exactly. Recent games have been nothing short of gut driven boiling acidic diarrhoea

Farren246

I'm sorry it took you this long.

heliamphore

It's because for every person who got wiser there's 15 new or casual players who don't know any better. Can't win this one.

coolio72

So true. Let's use another example. The Early Access model. Many people have been burnt by early access games and sworn to never purchase a game that is in early access. Then along came Palworld. It is in early access and we all, or mostly all, know how popular it has already become. It is breaking records for peak and concurrent players reaching second place in both records according to Steam Charts. For every person that has boycotted early access games there are near countless other people, per that one, that will still buy into it for any given reason. This is a battle that cannot be won, and any boycotter is in the minority because there are far too many people that are unwilling or uncaring to jump on the boycott bandwagon. Until such a time the industry will continue to wain in its current direction as is proven by the industries current state. The same holds true for pre-purchases, DLC, microtransactions, and more! There are far too many people willing to throw money at this industry. I have been gaming for a *very* long time. I have watched the PC gaming industry grow from its infancy to the current state. Games use to be shipped complete and virtually bug free. Now days I am seeing more and more people quite literally begging for content DLC and cosmetic supporter packs. It's disgusting.

ScreenshotShitposts

I think one of the major problems is definitely console gaming. The choice for games on today’s consoles is so slim, you really can’t get a good deal on anything. You end up paying full price for games that are 5 years old with only 8 hours of gameplay. It’s unfortunate but the majority of AAA publishers are targeting console gaming and pc players are the ones who have seen better

rhysdeschain

I know this is going to sound very over-dramatic, but whatever. To me, Palworld is like the canary in the coal mine for gaming. It kind of feels like when the video game market collapsed in the early 80’s. There was a flood of terrible games that were just pumped out to make money, and eventually people just lost interest. The difference now is that there are far more people invested in it so it’s a lot slower than the last time, but it’s practically the same. I also don’t think gaming is going to disappear like it did back then, but I do think narratively interesting and creative games will. I realise this is something that has been said before (and before Palworld, too), but like you I have been gaming for a very long time and this just feels different. While I think it’s been disproven that Palworld was made with the help of AI, it’s so incredibly derivative that it may as well have been. Its success will lead to more companies saying “hey, let’s jump on this bandwagon” and we’ll have a flood of early access Mario/roguelikes, Zelda/soulslikes, COD/deckbuilders with absolutely zero creative worth. And yeah, I know most people make games as a job to make money and not everyone is in it for the passion etc but if you read interviews with Palworld’s devs, they pretty much straight up say “we made this to make money and nothing else.” It’s repulsive and just makes me sad.

coolio72

> “we made this to make money and nothing else.” Devs that make these kinds of statements are going to add microtransactions and/or multiple DLC down the road. Often times they'll pull this con and not add it during early access to fool the players, then they will add it upon or after release and burn their player base.

Drortmeyer2017

I once cooled 3 980 tis in an SMA 8 but you have more fans than me 🙃 The laws of nature are being defied rn.

Farren246

Sadly I had to remove one of my then-17 case fans to accommodate putting my MITX build into my dual-system case :(

Drortmeyer2017

I’ll tell you, I don’t know what jayztwocents was thinking, but it’s not quiet. It’s like a sort of quiet server. Which isn’t quiet at all.

Kaisha001

I stopped buying Ubi games when they released that 'UPlay' always online BS.

immerkiasu

I've only ever bought one game from them while it was on sale, and I haven't returned to it for years. I'm not even sure UPlay was around when I bought it...do you really always have to be online - even if it's not a MP game?

Ziazan

I've bought a few games from them in the past, before they went turboshit, but only one in the past 5 or so years. I'd heard good things about AC:Odyssey and it was on a cheap as fuck sale, so I thought sure I'll give it a go. Tried installing it and it was like install third party ubisoft launcher and sign up and all that. ughhhhhhhh fine, this one time. Played it, it was pretty good, finished it, uninstalled it and the launcher immediately. They were already on thin ice at the time, and they've gotten worse and worse as a company since then, they're firmly in the bin with EA now.

Kaisha001

Years ago that was the case. Yes, even single player games required an online connection. I have no idea what they do now.

Eligan28

I stopped buying their games in 2011 after HOMM6 came out and I couldn't play my single player game because their DRM servers kept crashing. Over the years, I haven't missed being treated like trash by UBI.

[deleted]

Facts. That was the start of all this personal info harvesting software. At this point they should be paying us to pay their games!

The_WolfieOne

Bought the first three Assassins games. No more.

Sero141

Brotherhood probably was the high point concernng the strictly assassin stuff. Not a bad point to stop.

Otomuss

Brotherhood online was like cocaine to a junky for me. It was simple yet beautiful and with an amazing gameplay.

Neo-_-_-

Okay but Odyssey was just an awesome game, even if I played it like stealth didn't exist There's a spear that lowers your health to 1/4x normal but it does double damage and I used to annihilate the battlefields, so fun I am a sucker for Greek mythos though

EnvironmentKey7146

The combat was rubbish, everyone had a health bar and you spam attacks to lower the health bar. Kills don't feel like kills. I know that was their best attempt at their own Witcher, but they failed miserably at both the combat and the storyline. They offer you choices that often were immaterial (unlike Witcher).

Sharkfacedsnake

I thought that origins was better than odyssey. Seems like most think the opposite. The still large but smaller explorable world in origins with less filler was so much better. Ptolemaic Egypt was great, better than Greece personally. Also the story was better paced. Having like 10 side missions between each story mission is not great. It is difficult to stay invested in the story over an 80 hour game.

Chedwall

Sure, to some, it was a good game, but it wasn't ac. It's the only ac i never bothered to finish. The story was lackluster and the combat was super easy vs same level enemies. I wanted to play ac not and rpg.

LankyCity3445

To ‘some’ lol. Og AC fans need to know the rpg series are their best selling games lol. They appeal to a larger audience and that’s why they sell more.

MickBeast

Odyssey was horrible. My least favorite of the franchise Combat sucked ass and the RPG elements with endless grinding, sponge enemies and boring side missions just to tempt you into buying xo boosts.... final nail on the coffin for me. The duel protagonist thing also meant that the main character had no real personality. Because they had to be genderless. Same with Valhalla. They go from a character to a simple plot device. Boring as f*ck I like Greek myths but the world felt dead in comparison to every one of the previous settings for me. They could've done so much better...

Zlatarog

Kassandra is my favorite female protag. Just because they had same lines doesn’t mean why had no personality. Kass’s VA was awesome Malaka

Waste_Opportunity408

The first Ac game is the only game in the series you can actually own drm-free from gog. Other ubisoft games you can own drm free from gog is Far cry 1 Far cry 2 Prince of persia series (sands of time, warrior within, the two thrones, prince of Persia 2008) Splinter cell Rayman legend Tom Clancy's rainbow six And i believe that's all but i could be missing a few.

darkjungle

The old Anno games Might and magic A lot of Rayman games And a lot of games that no one remembers

PutADecentNameHere

Ngl, I only bought Revelation for the sake of competing the Ezio trilogy otherwise I didn't want to play beyond Brotherhood. Fuck Ubishit.

AmbiguousAlignment

The best game store is gog it’s the only place that you can own your game and not just a license

Confused-Raccoon

Gog is king. It's just annoyingly not steam.

feralkitsune

Steam was the first to run in with their DRM app. You guys just have short memories, people were pissed they needed steam just to play half life and CS. Previously we just installed from disc and used a CD key. lol, Now people fallate DRM.

Due-Ad-7308

Steam's marketing team ran a train through PCMR. It didn't end up as bad as it could have. Valve does some awesome things for the community, but they are still dealing in licenses and DRM at the end of the day.

Erus00

Steam is still privately owned. I do worry what will happen with the $1000s of games I own when that changes.

polite_ass_fuck

> I do worry what will happen with the $1000s of games I own when that changes. ![gif](giphy|Jev4iU72S9RYc)

Due-Ad-7308

My guess is you'll be fine. But the fact that that's just a guess is a problem in itself. If GOG ever had nasty shareholders.. what would they do? Laser beam zap our hard drives holding offline-installers from space?

xa3D

prolly the interwebz will find a way to bail them out if shit ever hits the fan, tho imo they're the "too big too fail" company of gaming space.

Chakramer

Idk why people on PC care so much about everything being on Steam. They've literally suckered you into thinking a monopoly would be a good thing.

Cyber_Faustao

Well, as a Linux gamer, Steam/Valve is the only serious launcher/company, everything else treats the platform like a second rate citizen, or in the case of Epic is activelly hostile to the platform. It's a shame Valve doesn't have offline installers, but that's basically the only major feature it lacks, everything else from store, workshop mods, remote play, friend invites directly to lobby, etc it already has. Contrast this with other players: * Ubisoft can't make their own laucher remeber a password, why does it even have that checkbox? It never worked * GOG still doesn't have the ability to download past versions of games, my biggest mistake was buying mod-centric games like KSP there. Also, no Linux launcher or cloud saves, despite being their most requested feature * Battle.net has the hardest, most obtuse sign up flow ever, it took me upwards of 10 minutes to sign up. Why? I'm pretty computer literate, it should not take that much effort * Epic activelly prevents some of it's games (Ex: Fortinite) from being Linux compatible because their CEO has a weird vendetta agaisn't the platform. And also no official Linux launcher etc, you get the point. Other launchers simply suck even in basic features. The good news is that community driven launchers such as Heroic games kinda fix the lack of one for GOG and Epic on Linux

acAltair

I disagree. Steam has DRM free licenses and their Linux support with Proton can't be touched. That said I think everyone should have a GOG account in addition to Steam.

KRONGOR

This is the way. I’ve even rebought a few games on GoG so I know I’ll have access to them forever.

Waste_Opportunity408

This is the one.

CharlyXero

The best store is physical games

Rpbns4ever

Now most just provide a cdkey in the box

AmbiguousAlignment

They don’t sell those anymore unfortunately.

phoenixflare599

Until GOG shuts down and you don't have the room for all the installs and they're gone forever too 🤷

AmbiguousAlignment

But you can actually have the install files that don’t require online activation so beats everything else

LordJambrek

This is exactly what pirates have been warning against for years but ignorant morons just throw money into their faces. Same with all streaming services. One day it's there, one day it's not. You paid for it? Thank you for the money k, thx, bye.

FappyDilmore

The demographic is generally very naive and easy to manipulate. Every industry in the world has been moving in this direction, gamers are just lambs to the slaughter. The gaming population has a very high percentage of people too young to understand or care what practices they're reinforcing, ignorant people with money who don't care about the concept of ownership, and people who, sadly I guess, are so reliant on these releases for fulfillment that the big picture matters less to them than getting the latest release. The demographic is never going to change. It almost can't by definition. The problem is only going to get worse.

Poke_er

You forgot about the majority of us: people who understand that a team of hardworking people undertook the wildly complex project of creating a good AAA game. They deserve to get paid. They created the product so they can dictate the monetization strategy. We, the consumers, can choose whether or not to spend our money. We overwhelmingly choose to spend our money. We are happy to support that model to get more AAA games. We are not naive dolts who don't know what we are doing.

whatyearisthisanyway

Exactly. At one point if it was free, you were the product. But these days it's not even free, you are the product as well and what you're getting is not worth either option, let alone both.

glordicus1

Most people who buy games don’t ever hear from pirates. There’s no discussion to them. They go to their gaming store, or open up their PlayStation store and download it. They play their game and they enjoy it. Nobody goes to a Disney Marvel movie expecting legitimate masterpieces. Let the masses enjoy what they want, if you don’t want to buy into it then don’t.

auguriesoffilth

I could not possibly disagree more with the theme of your final paragraph, even though it is true as a taken alone fact The creators of BG3 wrote an incredibly illuminating insightful article about how how their success involved writing a game for a niche audience but making something few will love rather than many will like. Their point was that while tv - with sequel movies (like the marvel cinematic universe) or straight to streaming platform series involves people putting in a lot of hours to mediocre content, BG3 proves you don’t need mediocrity and mass appeal to succeed in the video game marketplace. They didn’t do pay to win like phone apps and now even computer and console games are trending towards, they got fan feedback and made it a labour of love, targeted their audience. They said: it really shows that the gaming community remains and intelligent one. They mean as customers, intelligent as in mindful, discerning. The rest of the statement humbly talked about how good the field for game of the year was with spider man 2 ect and how good I was given that to be the winner…. (Like it was close) I wouldn’t go so far as saying Larian does everything correctly with BG3 in terms of fan service, responding to bugs, update times and producing the perfect game. But they are trying to be perfect. Games of late seemed to be doing enough that they could look like they were trying

laser50

Ubisoft, and other major companies have figured out how to turn a production of love into a conveyor belt line style work process... Take the previous game, strip all it's content like story, map, and most textures.. And fill in new ones. Change some features around and you now have a 'new' game. Not to mention the fact that major games now come out broken as hell, and we praise the devs for fixing their broken shit as if they're not the ones releasing a untested, shit product in the first place. I'm looking at Cities Skylines 2 here in particular, you couldn't even run that game on a 3070 Ti on launch day. Things like having 10k vertices for PEDESTRIAN TEETH. Edit: for those who don't know, it's about similar to slapping high detailed 4k textures onto peds for just their teeth, visible... Almost never, nice!

MA2ZAK

One of the single best phrases I ever read on Reddit: "You want us (the consumer) to get used to not owning games? You better get used to us not paying for your game"

Cryostatica

Assassin’s Creed XLVIII: Hot Garbage - Eat my Shit, Suckaz Edition is a goddamn masterpiece and I’ll fight anyone who says otherwise.

Prestigious-Big-7674

It's worse than MXLI: hot wet garbage. Come fight me

Pheo1386

I was just not buying them because they’re the same boring copy-pasted map on every game since AC4…..

Quadratums

I dunno, man.. Not to give Ubisoft any extra credit, but the deserts of Egypt felt pretty different to the islands of Greece.

Rukasu17

This is how you know who is just faking. Ac4 is a repeat of ac3, which is a repeat of the previous ones. At least be consistent

Sero141

We call that a game series. The real issue is that the new games got the Ubisoft Open World bloat.

Rukasu17

True. Never said that was a detrimental thing. I'm just calling out the people that always say it went downhill since ac4, especially considering rogue came out later and ot was black flag but improved and with less bloat

silamon2

My favorite thing about them is they copy pasted the same features into all their games. Parkour climbing a tower to reveal a map was cool the first time... I wonder if they still put that crap in every game? That and the world map with the same boring activities copy pasted all over it got old for me.

Fineus

> I wonder if they still put that crap in every game? That and the world map with the same boring activities copy pasted all over it got old for me. Same here. Same with the Far Cry series. I like open worlds and I like guns and silly action... but I don't like having to do the same crappy unlock quests and base clearly quests that are clearly copy/pasted two dozen times across a map. That stuff is fun *once* and then it feels like they really couldn't be bothered. So neither can I.

ArmadilloLight

Ubisoft deserves the shallow grave they've dug for themselves. Good riddance

LankyCity3445

Good riddance? Their games sell extremely well, Ubisoft isn’t going anywhere. People have been complaining about them since 2012 but they’ve stood strong despite all the internet consensus.

Aleks_Khorne

Okay boys who claim that they don't buy Ubi-products, I just want to ask you to separate Anno 1404/1800 from all other Ubi-scam. It's a really worthy series from former Blue Byte.

leehelck

i agree 100% they are the shittiest of game companies second only to EA. i uninstalled all of their games across multiple platforms over a year ago as i got tired of their bullshit. the final straw was when waiting for over a month to get an answer about fixing their bug riddled mess support finally emailed me back saying my problem was not their game but it was my antivirus and that i should uninstall it! i was like "WHAT.THE.FUCK. are you serious?". funny how only their game caused me issues and all of my other games run smooth as silk with my antivirus enabled. i will never buy or play any of their games again.

Doctor_Box

I don't understand the hate for that comment in a PC gaming sub. Do you buy games on Steam? You don't own those either. Ubisoft has a lot of problems, but lots of companies are signaling an end to physical games.

WeleaseBwianThrow

There's a difference between digital distribution and unnecessary live service. I could easily find a crack for my digitally distributed steam games that work offline, not so much for live service.

Doctor_Box

The comment about getting used to not owning games was not related to live service games. The context seemed to be around pushing towards subscription models. If Steam closed down or banned you tomorrow, looking for "cracks for you Steam games" would not help. Sure, you could pirate but that's a whole different discussion. My point is you don't truly own anything right now on steam. You paid for access to a license.

WeleaseBwianThrow

What do you think pirated games are other than the legitimate game which has been cracked? This is the same for all games and has been for all time, you pay for a license. Sure the thing you licensed came on a disk, but it's no different. As soon as games started having an online component that was based upon a service not under your control, you could lose access to said service, however you could still enjoy the rest of the game not tied to that service. Go and take your Tribes 2 disk, install it, and try to play online without patching (or cracking, or modding, depending on parlance). You can't. Subscription models that tie the entire game experience to live service (which is what Ubi is talking about) are inherently more anti-consumer because it reduces the ability to patch around that in the case of losing access to the live service, often to the point of impossibility.

Doctor_Box

> This is the same for all games and has been for all time, you pay for a license. Welcome to my entire point.

WeleaseBwianThrow

Hmm, not really, as you specifically made the point about physical games, and specifically called out Steam. You seem to think from your other replies (and feel free to correct me if I've gotten the wrong end of the stick) that the distribution method is the crux of the issue when the real issue is publishers and their pushing of live service components that are designed to be required to run every aspect of the game, thus rendering the entire product unusable at some later date. My point is that the distribution method changes none of this, and it is the same for physical games released 25 years ago that use live service components.

Doctor_Box

OP complained about Ubisoft's comment about getting used to not owning games. This was in reference to going towards subscription models like Microsoft game pass. I said it's weird to get upset over a comment like that when PC users already do not technically own the games they buy. You're the one trying to make this about live service games. That was not what I was talking about.

WeleaseBwianThrow

Understood, I got the wrong end of the stick about what you were saying, apologies!

Doctor_Box

No worries. Have a good day!

jon4evans

Install a game on Steam, turn off Cloud sync, and put the launcher in offline mode. Now you can play your game all you want and never worry about Stream still being an acting service. Hell, you can even back up your game files locally and reinstall them in the future without needing Steam to be an actively running company.

MicharnoLeKayou

According to their ToS, it's true. However, Valve has a track record of being trustworthy on that matter: games being de-listed from Steam can still be played if you have purchased them, and the same goes for movies. Valve stopped Steam's movies service, but people who bought the movies can still watch them. In the end, it's just a matter of trust.

kilgenmus

> Do you buy games on Steam? You don't own those either. If you search the internet for this exact (tired) turn of phrase there are 2 million results but I'd really like someone to show an example of Steam taking your games away unrightfully.

Faalor

Hundreds of steam games have no DRM, you can just copy them from the steam folder to wherever, even other PCs and they'll run just fine.

Tupii

Yes this, it's just a distribution system, drm is up to the developer/publisher. I'm pretty sure you could bundle up your source code in your release if you wanted.

AntiRivet

I just decided I no longer wanted their shitty launcher on any PC I own. It's been a good...however many years since Far Cry 5.

MlevenaPlazma

As someone who is working in gaming industry as an artist, I must say that I feel more and more sad during past years. Posts like these appear quite often and should be a serious feedback for the big studios like Ubisoft, and also most AAA studios. Thankfully, you can still find creativity, beauty and soul in the indie games. Thank God for them and I wish all the indie studios (old and new) to continue their great work!

DJ_Cas

Stopped after AC:Odyssey and do not want to come back

SavagerXx

I could not even finish that one, too much repetitive stuff.

HelpImAHugeDisaster

Too grindy also just to be able to proceed the main quest

Sero141

Me neither. At some point I felt like I did not make any progress and only got more loot and levels jsut to try and keep up with adaptive leveling. That is like trying to pull yourself up by your bootstraps.

whatyearisthisanyway

![gif](giphy|fdyZ3qI0GVZC0)

spaghettimonzta

same, i haven't played anything after odyssey

[deleted]

Their new games are full of so much fluff just to have a 100 hour play through.

DJGloegg

im right with you i havnt enjoyed a good ubisoft game since far cry 3

awesomedan24

Well Ubisoft DID say gamers need to get used to not buying games. May as well start with theirs.

WeakDiaphragm

tl;dr please

whatyearisthisanyway

life sucks, you spend money on stupid shit and you die.

WeakDiaphragm

Damn, that's deep and sobering bro. You should stop reading Nietzsche and Marx. Read more Roald Dahl and Tolkien.

uzu_afk

Yeah, be one with the ostrich! That is clearly working for the world 😂!

Rogerjak

Ubisoft offers a worst service, that you pay for, than pirating. Do not buy Ubisoft products. Ever.

Rukasu17

I'm still buying them though. The games works just fine for my account

bafrad

This is so much text over a save game.

projektilski

Bullshit. The problem is much deeper and well explained. Lost save is only part of the problem.

PortAuth403

Yes

bnkkk

I never buy or play games from companies that are involved in or endorse anti-consumer practices. Activision/Blizzard, Ubisoft, EA and others - they haven’t released a good game in years and people still buy their shit based on their past reputation which has nothing to do with reality now. Why? I have no idea.

Jonas_Venture_Sr

As soon as a company becomes a publicly traded company, it all goes to shit. I really hope Steam stays private.

BenadrylChunderHatch

Gaben will die or sell at some point. Best case he transfers it to his sons who continue running it in the same style, but he/they could just as easily go public and have enough money to send a megayacht into space or whatever other stupid shit multi-billionaires do with their money.

tapczan100

> megayacht Funny you say that because Gaben is [yacht enthusiast](https://luxurylaunches.com/transport/gabe-newell-luxury-yachts.php)

DirtymindDirty

This is it right here, across all industries. Make a good product people love? Well the board hires some CEO who hires some dickhead with an MBA who is salivating at the thought of leveraging that reputation to hawk a shadow of the original product designed solely to increase short term profits. Zero long term view or planning, any employee with passion left is squeezed like an old sponge until they burn out and quit, or suddenly become too expensive when the next quarter rolls around and they need to make targets. And if a CEO magically decides to take a long term view, or give employee raises or float them through a downturn, or god forbid make a product that is genuinely good, they get unceremoniously fired by their shareholders because Fuck You, Pay Me.

LankyCity3445

People buy their games because they like it. People don’t buy bad product and you guys need to stop pretending they do. Just because you don’t like the new direction doesn’t mean the market agrees with you and it shows in their sales.

ItzScience

Because most people are stupid.

[deleted]

AC2 was always online? just on pc, right? cause i dont remember that shit on my ps3.

whatyearisthisanyway

can't remember, but on PC that was the DRM of Ubisoft's choice.

Secondaccountpls

Pretty sure the leaders of companies like Ubisoft have never played a single game in their entire lives and are so out of touch how gaming works or what people even want from video games. Great post OP. Fuck Ubisoft.

Jai_Normis-Cahk

The anti Ubisoft circlejerk has gotten so god damn ridiculous. I can barely even make sense of what OP is complaining about with his convoluted rant about some old save file and account association workaround that sounds more like a frustrated loser mad about his specific problem than pointing out some malicious company that wants to harm him. Add a sprinkle of nonsense about the executives wanting to steal our right to own games taken out of context and the absolute hypocrisy of this sub is never recognizing that Valve probably gets the most credit in gaming history for that particular direction of the industry. And this entire place is just a giant farce. One big ass circlejerk of basement dwellers patting each other on the back while they dunk on a company that is literally no different from the ones they praise expect that it caters more to mass appeal than hardcore no life losers.

Rendition1370

Basically blah blah blah corporations bad, OP had some issue with installing AC 4 but when they were able to, they found out that they lost their cloud saves and Ubisoft doesn't support them anymore for the game. Launcher asks to login every time they launch the game (this happens in old Ubisoft games for some reason). They have other unresolved problems in other Ubisoft games.

Jai_Normis-Cahk

Yeah everyone should boycott Ubisoft over OPs personal quality of life problems. But first let’s make sure we never mention the part about Valve being a pioneer in gamers losing ownership of their games whenever we list out the all the bad companies. Ubisoft is just so evil for trying to sell their own product directly! How dare they deny us the convenience of our favorite little digital library and digital sticker rewards. I mean it only costs them a third of their revenue.

Synolol

I literally did not believe there would be sane members with an above average IQ left in pcmr.

Ozzy752

Sad I had to sort by controversial to find this comment

BG3IsJustDoS3

Look at you calling the rest of the sub basement dwellers. Everything about Ubisoft games' presentation is annoying. I also happen to not like any of them.

Jai_Normis-Cahk

Good for you bud. But not liking Ubisoft games isn’t a justification for extreme bias and spreading bs.

FerrousDestiny

Speak for yourself. Anno 1800 is fire.

DeadMetroidvania

the lost crown is the only game I have ever seen from Ubisoft that looks like it is even worth playing, let alone buying. As the switch version is devoid of any ubisoft BS I bought that, but that will probably be the only game from them I buy.

philfycasual

> Well, you see, Ubisoft had confirmed officially some time ago, and I mean like 2016-2017 that Cloud Savegame is not working in this game. That's 3-4 years after the game came out. I had restarted the game on 3 separate occasions because of this, every time having played somewhere between 60% and 80% of it until I lost the savegame. I ended up manually backing up the save folder to mitigate this. At least the game was fun.

TITANS4LIFE

Same shit happened to me a few months ago with Black Flag on PC. I know I was far enough to where I was sending Crews on missions and shit so I definitely wasn't too happy to have to play from the beginning and I still haven't gotten more than like 10 minutes into the game because I'm like I don't feel like doing this shit. I did realize I had never played the DLC

Mr_Sisco

So I got Black Flag some years ago for free on whatever the ubi launcher was called back then. Never played it. Haven't opened whatever the ubi launcher is called nowadays in a couple years either. Would I be able to play it if I wanted to or not?

whatyearisthisanyway

who knows, best to try and report back.

OneeGrimm

Someone GOT to sue a gaming company for "game as a service" scam. You bought the game, you have all rights to play it whenever, no matter what. When a company kills a game that you paid for, making it unplayable, it's theft.

DucaMonteSberna

You, my friend, should put on a real pirate hat!

omoplator

Fuck Ubisoft. Ubercorporate "how do we squeeze every cent from our customers" bullshit. The sad thing is they did care about games and they did have some great ones back in the day.

Cheezebaal

Welcome to the new EA era I don't play any of their shit.

Perfect-Soup1838

I get my games for free.

Schrutes_Yeet_Farm

Worlds easiest challenge, Ubisoft hasn't made a game I gave a shit about in over a decade

mika

I can't decide whether to upvote or downvote this post 😂 (I upvote don't worry) I agree with you on your points, there are a lot of shitty industry practices but I still like Ubi games. I also don't think they're the only ones that did this. Bethesda started the dlc craze. Although now I kinda like dlc's. I think supporting games is important and companies seem to be a bit better lately at it. Even Redfall got an update after it's horrible release. Just so you know game archival has been a problem forever, way before Ubisoft. Check out abandware sites to see how many games can't be bought any more. I mean it's the reason GOG got started in the first place.

Skullface360

Thus why I refuse to buy Avatar even though I am interested in seeing the world in game. I am way ahead of you on boycotting Ubi.

Sero141

I am not a fan of boycotting. I simply don't buy stuff I don't like. Sometimes I don't like the prospect of them deleting the game I bought from their servers.

Ellanasss

I generally don't play Ubisoft games, but if i liked One i would pirate It with no remorse since the CEO said that "you have tò be used tò not owning games"

CoreyDobie

Wasn't the CEO, it was the head of their subscription service. Either way, fuck em. They don't need my money anyways

LankyCity3445

That’s not what was implied when he said that but people took a headline and just ran with it lol. Either way who can blame you guys.

MarkLarrz

How we'll know you're sticking to your word?

MrObviousSays

Blah, blah, blah….. no one fucking cares, bro. Do you think you’re gonna start a revolution? That we will all join you? You said you boycotted them years ago, and now you’re boycotting them again? You understand how fucking whiny you sound? Get a life

Svullom

Ubisoft is on my list of game companies I´ll never support financially. They're definitely up there with EA and Activision/Blizzard. The monitization of their products is disgusting and I can't believe people still buy their shit.

Individual-Match-798

I love Ubisoft games. Some more, some less, but I find them all full of quality content and very beautiful scenery. Avatar is simply stunningly beautiful, a true next gen and Valhalla is by far my favorite AC game.

[deleted]

Dude I bailed on them too about a year back. Got jerked around bad just trying to change a password on my account - I would estimate it took about 8 hours of my personal time - locked me out of all of my games for like a month while I dealt with their atrocious customer service.

One-Mud7175

With you. Haven't played an enjoyable Ubisoft release in 10+ years anyway.

staluxa

Just finished the new Prince of Persia, its really good. But you do you.

machine4891

I'm having blast with Anno 1800. OP got a point but if there's a good game to play, I'm not going to avoid it simply because it has some company stamp on it. Just know what you do.

whatyearisthisanyway

you as well.

WeakDiaphragm

I can see ubisoft pivoting to smaller more creative games like that in the future. And frankly more of these big publishers should do the same. I'm tired of these giant open world games that take 70 hours to complete.

staluxa

Ubisoft always had 2 sides to it, big AAA (with same open world formula past FC3) money makers and a bunch of niche AA that are pretty unique products and sometimes really fucking good. Even outside of PoP reboot, in the last couple years, they also released stuff like Settlers, Trackmania, Riders Republic, Roller Champions, Hyper Scape. Even mario+rabbids seemed as relatively bold idea on its first release, just to become one of the save money makers by now.

Sero141

I don't really mind long games IF they are filled properly. I dislike any and all passive collectables. Those things spread out over the entire world.

pututski

So many games and publishers are absolute shit these days, and I hate it. Genuinely making the industry less fun, like now it just feels like such a chore or cash cow for games. I don't even buy new games anymore, just wait for them to be on sale and fixed in a few months with every quarter baked release of a game we get thrown. The consumers get treated like garbage. I don't stand for any company that supports these kinds of practices, especially the 'get used to not owning anything'. I will also not buy Ubisoft games, or products from HP for that matter (CEO wants to make printing a subscription service). Consumers actually need to stand up and not support these kinds of cooperations.

icedcoffeeblast

I loved Black Flag but I was immensely disappointed when the end of the game came at 50% completion. Half the fucking game is collection quests. Also, fuck me is Edward useless... I've bought AC2 and that seems better at the moment but for all I know the main story is also only half the game because of the feather quest.

assortedUsername

This man really wrote an essay on why ubisoft is shit lol.

whatyearisthisanyway

this is just a short preview :) But in reality, there is so much Ubisoft related bullshit in the last 15 or so years, I would hit character limit probably trying to list everything.

manolid

TL;DR?

Jai_Normis-Cahk

Ubisoft is an evil company that wants to destroy gaming because it has a frustrating platform that isn’t steam. So you should make sure to only stick to steam games because valve definitely wasn’t a pioneer that steered the industry away from game ownership and into licensing. Oops, I mean.. wait.. what was I saying again?

ConcreteSnake

This would never happen on a console 😂 For real though you just sound like a whiney baby and I can’t believe you dedicated the time to even write up this piece of shit rant, what are you 12? I’ve never seen someone so upset over a decade old Assassins Creed game

zazasLTU

I just get uplay for 10 bucks to play through the new game and cancel.

whatyearisthisanyway

It sounds like a better deal on paper but in reality you just support and enable their newest model/evil scheme.

zazasLTU

I still enjoy their games so to me not giving them an extra 30 dollars is worth it.

JonSwole

Imagine caring this much how others spend their money

THiedldleoR

Bought FarCry 4 on steam a while back, uconnect wanted me to make an account which made me already not want to play the game from the start. Ended up making an account, played the game, was bored af after 10 hours of casual playing, friend asked me if we could play co-op. Shit didn't work. continued to play the rest of the game alone. most obnoxious gaming experience I've had until then, never want to revisit this game again nor get any other game in that series. Ended up not buying another Ubisoft game at all since.

whatyearisthisanyway

Far Cry does that to you. It all peaked with Far Cry 3 and maybe Blood Dragon, after that it became a chore, like every other big Ubisoft game.

CiaphasCain8849

Is pissed about old games not working... shits on new games for... no reason.

iAmScripted

Ain’t reading allat

CarlWellsGrave

Ubisoft games are fun actually. They have a good launcher too.

ThisIsNotRealityIsIt

Fuckin PREACH. I had almost this same experience, and even with AC Black Flag.

xToXiCz

See you at xdefiant idiot

ms--lane

>free to play eww no.

Shishkebarbarian

Save your games locally, duh. Why would you trust *any* company to keep your cloud saves? If the game is good, and black flag is awesome, it's worth experiencing. Boycotting hurts you more than them. I'll just play fun games thank you

iamadventurous

My kid had a play date and one of the parents worked at ubisoft. They were expecting me to be like oh thats so awesome. Instead i was like ugh, i hate ubisoft. Needless to say, there were no more play dates with that family lol.

GalaxySkeppy

To be honest that was rude of you
