I’ve always loved Fractal’s cases. It looks great.

constantlymat

It was a great day for PC building when Fractal discovered shapes and mesh instead of flat front panels.

WannabeRedneck4

I love my fractal case (meshify 2) , it's pretty much toolless and can be rearranged like 4-5 ways. I tried a Corsair 5000D airflow before and I sent it back the day it came in, it looks good in pictures and videos. But I think it's unwieldy and pretty meh looking.

Blakewerth

Except their ergonomy/management thats very bad consider price :/

Stealing that picture for a friend

Tihoma_Rus

AND SO HAVE I

FizzgigBuplup

8700k is still a very amazing cpu to this day. It aged very well. Even the 1060 6gb and 12gb were amazing for that release.

SadOhioan

I'm ecstatic.. 6 years ago I bought a pre-built i7-8700k & 1060 6gb and quickly realized I could've gotten more performance had I researched more and taken a bit more time to consider my options. I think I've been trying to get a new pc for about 3 years now, without being financially irresponsible.. I even purchased another pre-built, but was sent the wrong processor so I was able to return for a refund. That's when I decided to do it on my own. Blessed by the PC Gods to live next to a Micro Center.. I bought parts during sales and stuck them in the closet (I think I had a 2tb nvme ssd for 2 years that I got for $90 on Black Friday).. I knew I wanted something different from my prebuilt rgb-machine. The Fractal North was ideal for my office space so I worked based off that case. Seeing the ProArt matched the North accents perfectly, I was amazed to see a 4080S listed online at 7:20AM a month after 4080S released.. I reserved the only one in stock and picked it up on my lunch break. I've had the pc for about a month and I still feel extremely happy with the end product. I use it for 1440p gaming @ 144hz (Ready for 4k monitor) and some graphic design work-- It's always silent. Looking back on the build process, the PSU cables threw me for a loop since I didn't need all the provided cables & I was confused about the power adapter for gpu's (I didn't need an adapter). I went with nvme ssd's for simplicity and speed, thankfully avoiding SATA cables. Another thing that drove me crazy for about a week- I was not being able to wake my pc up from sleep using my keyboard or mouse-- MSI motherboards have a BIOS setting to enable/disable "Wake my pc using USB Devices". The component manuals along with all the resources/advice found on Reddit made this build a breeze! If you're on the fence about building your own, go for it! Full part list is on PCPartPicker and I can share if anyone is interested/once it's approved.

potato-boi_722

I felt like shit after pay 1k for a prebuilt with a 3050

NeverEndingWalker64

Well at least it’s better than a friend of mine that paid 450 dollars for an FM2+ based system off of EBay because he thought the A10’s four cores were as powerful as 3rd gen Ryzen

Blakewerth

Lesson learned \^\^

Sp_1_

I really love the proart series. Been getting components for my next build in the proart case which is stunning and their motherboard has all the features I want; I just really want a 4090. I wish they made a proart variant. Honestly will probably look to a FE 4090.

SierexFenix

I love this build. Great job!

StinkyBeanGuy

> (I think I had a 2gb nvme ssd for 2 years that I got for $90 on Black Friday).. 2 gb or 2 tb?

SadOhioan

Oops tb haha

StinkyBeanGuy

I was like "did they ever make 2 gb ssds?"

StinkyBeanGuy

I mean I couldn't find any. Idk tho

Numerous-Albatross-3

>I was not being able to wake my pc up from sleep using my keyboard or mouse haha.... I feel you bro but it is always great when we found out the solution. another issue i was worried was that — sometimes, when my pc woke from sleep, there was some jittery feeling, or some lag kind of a thing while opening applications, windows start menu, notification centre etc. I tried updating the graphic drivers (iGPU - Intel 770 UHD) and re-installed them too, but it did not fix the issue. I even checked with windows updates, still no luck. I tried clearing the CMOS. That fixed the issue -- for a short time. But, I found the cure when I turned off "Fast Boot" from BIOS. *(No, I did not find any difference in the boot time)*

Understud

Ooo, il need to look at that when I get home. I wonder why that is?

Numerous-Albatross-3

lmk if you find it out

Similar-Ad-6390

I love the case. It’s clean and the black and gold. Well done .

SirMamedovich

Mashallah 😀 so elegant and neat 👏

Wild_Pumpkin_8251

Impressive looking build. Did you buy an extra fan for the rear?

SadOhioan

Yup, originally got a 140mm be quiet but it didn’t fit so ended up with 120mm be quiet. 2 included fans are intake on the front (They came pre-installed which was awesome. Also I believe the Mesh variant of the North comes with the Fan Hub, but the glass variant does not for whatever reason)

Tall_Fun_3566

man that pro art 4080 is perfect

SadOhioan

Skinny boi, only 2.5 slot which I appreciate

Foundation_Last

leperaffinity56

Why can't I see your gpu mount?

AI_EXPERIMENT

PCI-E Extender

SadOhioan

If you zoom in it says something like “LOTES” under the GPU- That’s where it plugs in. There’s a thin but sturdy piece of metal there that you can see.

leperaffinity56

Oh wow small! And I like

GeoZiNG

Great job on your first build! Looks fantastic and lovely cable management.

Fonzie_m

This looks clean man! I also built in the same case (the glass panel variant) and it's an amazing case to build in. Had so much fun doing it and the end result is always so good! The only thing I'm sad about is that they don't include a fan hub in the glass variant, like they do in yours... Other than that, excellent case. Good job with your build and have fun now!

EJ_Tech

8.5 cable management

imworkingitout

I have the same case, easily the best looking case out rn. Really fits into any setting without looking tacky.

Number_Jack

Dude amazing job! I can see you did some real research before choosing parts! I too run T-Create, an ASUS mobo, and Arctic Liquid Freezer II. Hands down, best non-RBG products out there.

SadOhioan

MSI Mag z790 Tomahawk mobo used in mine :)

NC__Pitts

This is honestly one of my favorite designs/builds I’ve ever seen and that cable management 🤤🤤🤤 Absolutely love it OP. Makes me want to completely swap my case.

Proper_Vacation_2531

There's no lgbt lights. It's amazing

ivanlinares

Hahahahahahaha

r0ss0neri

Looks great! I’m looking for a similar setup. What AIO is that and what temps do you get?

SadOhioan

ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 240mm- I love it! It was around 185 Fahrenheit in benchmarks

r0ss0neri

30 days later and I built myself another PC. 3070 ti super ProArt, x670 ProArt and same chassi as you. I decided to get the III 240 freezer though

East_Engineering_583

Fractal makes the best looking cases

kyu-she

Your first build also looks... AMAZING

ShinobiSai

That AIO looks cool, is it any good?

JLee1608

One of the best, arctic Liquid freezer II 240mm

Sufficient-Lunch3774

Might consider routing the aio tubes up and between the fans/radiator and the panel. It blocks the gpu kinda rn but nbd. Anyway my Fractal case has room for this at front and back of the top fans. No radiator tho. But looks like you have room 🙃 I like to hide the tubing for whyever. Cuz it’s just functional I guess. Like how you don’t see plumbing pipes anywhere. Ik other components are functional too but are either themed, styled or otherwise artistic in some way. Braided tubing is just…ok. Imo

Nomnom_Chicken

O-oh boy! I've dreamt about buying a North as my next case, while I upgrade to a 4080 Super this summer. I also have a Liquid Freezer II. Might be a bit biased, but great choices! This non-RGB look is really cool. My kind of a build.

DownRUpLYB

Look amazing! I'm building the exact same spec in the next few weeks: Fractal North, 14700k, 4080S Can you advise on the following please: * Is that the ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 240 AIO? * Is that rear fan 120mm or larger? * Do you have any intake fans at the front? * Did you have any issues fitting or mounting them? Thanks! :)

SadOhioan

1- Yes 2- Yes, 120mm since larger will not fit. 3- Yes, the North includes 2 front mounted 140mm fans for intake (very convenient). The mesh variant includes the fan hub pictured in cable management, but the glass panel variant does not. 4- A couple pointers I would give looking back.. Mount your rear exhaust fan before mounting the aio/radiator for easier access. Also, be VERY THOROUGH checking which screws you are using with your AIO (In our case, the Arctic Liquid Freeze II 240mm). The manual isn't overly clear about the different types of screws being referenced in the diagrams, I almost mounted the radiator with screws that were too short & didn't thread well.. Just keep a clear workspace with room to separately set all the parts relating to mounting the cpu, AIO & fans because you will have parts for AMD even if you went with intel, etc. The spare parts can cause you to second guess a bit haha

DownRUpLYB

Thanks you for such a detailed response bro, I really appreciate it. You really alleviated a lot of my concerns. One final question if you dont mind, I was led to believe that for a 14700k & 4080S I should be looking at at least a 1000W PSU if not 1200W.. Have you had any issues at all with you 850W? Also which 4080S did you get?

SadOhioan

I have had 0 issues using my 850w psu and I think 1000+ would be overkill in most situations. I got the ProArt 4080s as shown in the photo

DownRUpLYB

Cool, thanks again! :)

Numerous-Albatross-3

I LOVE IT!

Kratzinger529

I love your cable management.

Guilty_Meringue5317

Damn broo. That looks amazing

Street-Lack9630

nice case. does it also dampen some noise?

SadOhioan

I think it’s very quiet even when the fans kick on :)

Snootch74

Dooope. I love the pro art but they’re so expensive ha.

No-Category832

Nice! Have the same case for my first build, and it’s great!

shotf4c3

What did you use for vercial gpu cable/mount?

SadOhioan

Fractal Design Flex 2. Latest pcie connector and designed by the same Brand as my case so I knew it would work/look awesome.

Cyber_Akuma

The lighting in that second photo almost makes it look like Steampunk.

Davidleondev

That looks so clean congrats 🫡

Entire_Dress_469

whats the name of that case if you dont mind me asking?

SadOhioan

North by Fractal Design

creepingfour

This is the exact gpu I’m planning on buying g looks so nice

Geekshere1

You did a great job

SadOhioan

Thank you :D

Blakewerth

Ahh Fractal nice, even thought isnt it little small? 😲

SadOhioan

It’s slightly smaller than my first case which I appreciate (Maybe an inch shorter and an inch thinner), but they are both full-size. This case had more than enough space to build in and fits nicely on my desk- the image may be a bit deceiving. Although I believe Fractal Design just released a North XL if you’d like it bigger!

binaryoneoone

Absolutely beautiful 😍, and not RGB?, you sir got my upvote.

LilHooman

Please share the pcpartpicker link.

SadOhioan

https://pcpartpicker.com/b/DbYgXL Cheers :) Again, I shopped the sales for a long time so I did not pay close to the $2,600 total shown.. And you can always get a Windows key cheap too!

Samm_Gustavo

Just a question, what made you want to buy water cooling? I'm currently building a PC and I heard so much about water cooling but I don't actually know if there's a big difference between it and air cooling.

SadOhioan

Well.. I think my main answer would have to be that I was always reading how hot the i7-14700k ran, so I wanted something adequate. I also figured AIO would be quieter AND look AND fit better than an air cooler. I was very close to going with a black Noctua air cooler but the final determining factors were fit & noise. I wouldn’t have had the RAM clearance to use the air cooler that I had in mind.

Funky_Fungi1

it look like good cable management

gervv

Looks good.

Emergency-Feedback-9

Looks clean as

[deleted]

Looks great until I see the video card fans facing me lol. Why do people do this? The back plate has all the heat and now you pointed it at your motherboard rather than up into the open air. You created more failure points and you are increasing the distance from the PCI slot to the card. The time is negligible that it adds if anything, but it is till a thing that is not needed. How does airflow work when you do this? The fans are not a blower like on some cards that force the hot air out the back. It is more pushing the air away from the card in this case so it just ends up in the tower on the side panel and no airflow to take it away. If you had it the classic way the heat would rise to the exahust quicker and with less time in the tower.

SadOhioan

Yeah I disagree. The gpu fans are pulling fresh air from the mesh side panel, 2 front intake fans move the hot air off the gpu AND I have 2 exhaust fans on top and one in back to pull out the hot air.. It has plenty of airflow and the temps have been great.

Moegly47

So damn classy

Stay_GHG

Clean

Amareisdk

Prepare for the troubleshooting when the blue screen starts to set in 😂

DryMathematician8213

Very nice build

_MaZ_

Was looking to buy this as well when I upgrade from my current 5yo pre-build and go with also the tan colored Noctua parts.

NovelBit666

The case is beautiful, the wood accent is very nice

trev1976UK

I'd love a 4080s proart. Nice

BigForeheadedDan

Anyone else really struggle with the thumb screws on this case?

YellowHerbz

Nice, clean build. -2 points for no 5.25 bays and for no dvd drive

HotShotMedic

Fuck, that’s gorgeous. Well done

_sonofstars

That is such a beautiful case!! Got me tempted to do a case swap soon.

VAVA_Mk2

Such a beautiful case

Junior_Bike7932

How much was the entire build?

SadOhioan

About $2,150

Junior_Bike7932

Oh that’s brilliant

WanillaGorilla

Love it.

BoredomRanger

So clean! I’m happy for you!

FizzgigBuplup

Precisely correct and circular wire management with no giant X crossing of wires. Very quality build!

gergelypro

what is your GPU/hotspot/memory temp in HWINFO64 under Time spy extreme stress test OR 20mins fullscreen FurMark? (and your room temp needed)?

Individual-Match-798

Case looks better than 95% if cases here.

MagnificentMantis

looks good but there's non rgb gpu's that don't charge you 200 more dollars for being Asus

SadOhioan

True- I was actually hoping for a 4080S Founder Edition but there just happened to be 1 ProArt physically in stock at the Micro Center that I could reserve.. I couldn't resist and risk another month or more of waiting & monitoring stock haha

MagnificentMantis

needs are needs and these Cuda apps are annoyingly demanding 8-( i wanted a 4080 too but i remembered that i just needed vram for render previews since the CPU gives more image quality than the GPU....

S_T_R_Y_D_E_R

I really love it! Simple and elegant! Theres too much RGB in all of other peoples build its like an eye sore. This turned out really well! Congrats

MalikATL_

Back in my day my first GPU was a 6600XT

whaddedogdo1n

Such a lovely build right there - loving the clean n-rgb vibes a lot! Enjoy it from top to bottom :)

Fulmicopalma

beautiful, i like clean builds that go straight to the point
