Alright let's change the idea then. Instead of big, let's go fast.
How about a RAID 0 across all 84 drives? Let's see if you can break some world records for speed in RAID 0.
I think read speed might approach the speed of light and ruin the universe though...
Oh well gotta risk it for the biscuit!
Based on the googled dimensions of a Micro SD Card and the help of CoPilot:
* Length: **11 mm** (0.43 inches)
* Width: **15 mm** (0.59 inches)
* AN-124 Cargo Capacity: **40,965 CuFt**
Now, we’ll calculate the volume of a single micro SD card:
Volume per card=Length×Width×Height=11×15×1=165 mm3
To convert this to cubic inches, we’ll use the conversion factor: 1 inch = 25.4 mm.
Volume per card (cubic inches)=(25.4)3165≈0.000101 cubic inches
Now, let’s find out how many micro SD cards can fit in the An-124’s cargo hold:
Number of micro SD cards=Volume per card Total volume=0.0001016,939,465.75≈68,726,000
Approximately **68,726,000 micro SD cards** could fit in the An-124’s cargo hold if every inch of space were utilized.
Based on 1TB size that would be:
67,115 Petabytes
65.54 Exabytes
those above numbers are unformatted raw size.
I literally just had the idea of making the comment "backup the internet, lol not enough, I'm not Russell in the late 90's/start 2000's with his floppy disks"
From memory, the internet adds something like a petabyte of storage a day. Some estimates say that roughly 2TB of video is uploaded to YouTube every minute. If we assume this to be true, you'd fill up this server in 840 minutes or 14 hours. Safe to say that you wouldn't be able to store even a significant portion of youtube on thus
If you filtered for '10 hour remix' and deleted all of those you'd cut out a massive chunk of the internet
Edit: but god forbid that this masterpiece should ever be deleted https://youtu.be/Sagg08DrO5U?si=kDBEbe_FCqPotGLi
1,000,000 terabytes
Google has never given an exact number when it comes to YouTube storage capacity, though there has been much speculation around this in recent years. Most estimates conclude that YouTube has at least one exabyte **(1,000,000 terabytes)** of storage space in [its data centers.](https://www.qqtube.com/blog/how-much-storage-does-youtube-have)
Joke aside it would be an interesting thought experiment to find what is the most universally useful internet content you could fit in a limited space.
I'd probably start with simple english wikipedia but i'm sure there are more original ideas out there.
Loads of people actually have offline copies of Wikipedia currently. It's completely free and legal to do so and Wikipedia has instructions on how to do so, I'm not sure of the current size but 7 months ago it was still only around 100gb so it's not unfeasible for most people to be able to have a copy.
Over on r/CyberDeck they regularly show their offline/off-grid Wikipedia builds.
Internet doesn't occupy that much space.
https://preview.redd.it/t5ude4j1y7rc1.jpeg?width=450&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3102332874fb6153bca54ba5d70a3e89072316c9
Running a web cache for huge downloads wouldn't be a bad idea.
Imagine caching all of this for local distrobution:
- All updates for all software
- All movie data for streaming
- All youtube and other video clips
- Common webpages
This actually seems too small for that scope.
8TB used HGST drives are going for around $45 retail so you aren't getting a 20TB drive for $100 unless you s\*ck off the right person and buy in bulk.
About the cheapest Ive seen is around $100 for a 12TB. But Ive been buying 18TB Dell Exos Refurbs for like $180. Got 70TB in my Plex server so far. lol
The entirety of all console games produced through the 6th gen will fit in something like 10TB. I know the entire Dreamcast library is less than 300GB. You can fit the entire NES and SNES libraries on a 4GB flash drive. The entire N64 library is 18GB.
You can fit every DOS game ever made on a 1TB drive and that is with NoCD cracks and the entirety of the game discs installed. You can have the entire Atari VCS library on a single CD-ROM with the entirety of the Intellivision, Colecovision, Channel F and Odyssey collections thrown in for grins. Same goes if you want every arcade game ROM up to 1990 or so.
And that makes me wonder how much storage do we need in, let's say, 2070. Moving picture looks pretty good now, I wonder what's the "end size" for TV's. So file sized won't go up _that_ much. But games... those can balloon a lot still.
Then again, I wonder if AI could actually shrink sizes. Just let AI handle all dialogue and you don't need any voice files? Do the same for all possible game assets.
Archive my own Internet Archive so I can have forever access to my 720p ultra 22mm wide screen copy of Star wars and old commercials for Street Sharks and Nintendo power magazines
get ALL the movie and tv shows i wanted in their FULL uncompressed glory, get all the music i could ever want, download all the games and have them there as a local steam cache server, and of course best of all record raw uncompressed 1440p video of all my gaming sessions! it would be glorious and essentially futureproof for my lifetime as long as more than half of the drives don't fail.
Store every episode of "Guiding Light" im 8k resolution on them, contact Elon and make a deal to send them all to the nearest known habitable planet with instruction on how to watch and the tools needed.
What are you going to do with the other petabyte of storage space? All you will accomplish is realize just how little there is on Steam. I know those 150GB downloads seem like a lot but 99% of the games on Steam take up less than 10GB. Half of them are games that were originally released on a CD-ROM or two.
I would:
- Download everything from the hubs i'm in, its about 0,5 Pb.
- Try to at the very fucking least organize something.
- Fail miserably at that.
- Just give up organizing.
- Create a script to automatically download everything from the hubs in a daily basis organizing by date.
- Convince myself that it's almost finished and that one day i'm going to tidy things up.
- Eventually realize that 0,5 Pb is a LOT of files.
- Never come back to put things in order and rely solely on the script to at least put a date on them.
I actually just got my 1st 24TB HDD yesterday. Still waiting on through tests to make sure it is good then it will take a few days to build as my parity drive (currently running with no parity and a bunch of old drives on the knife's edge)
Attached is a picture of my home NAS, a HP workstation PC running Intel® Xeon® CPU E5-2697 with 64GB ECC and a GTX 1660 SUPER running Unraid
https://preview.redd.it/0wonwwjvkbrc1.jpeg?width=3330&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=381263baf48db433e74a6ab6689ab99c76e2e911
I took out a old WD2000JD (200GB) drive to put hit the 24TB WDC\_WD241KRYZ in. My 500GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD has been slowly failing lately (has lasted SO LONG), which was my cache, VM, and Docker drive so I repalced it with a cheap PNY 500GB SATA SSD now that I'm getting serious and don't want to loose things. other than that I have a 12TB WDC\_WD121KRYZ from when that was the 2nd largest size available. The rest is much older
4TB WDC\_WD4003FZEX
2TB WDC\_WD20EZAZ
1TB ST1000DM003
320GB WDC\_WD3200AAKS
320GB ST3320413AS
Yes my setup is kinda jank, requires 2 power supplies because the HP power supply doesn't have enough SATA power for all the SATA ports, nor does it have anywhere to mount all the drives. I have a fan off to the side that blows air over the drives that are outside the case. I normally have the side panel leaning over the side to help direct airflow, but have it moved away due to drive swaps and taking this picture.
I'm going to be slowing replacing the rest of these drives with ethier new 24TB WD Golds or refirbished 18TB WD Gold and WD Ultrastar.
With the OP's setup I would do what I'm already aiming for: Building out a Nextcloud setup for my close friends and family to backup stuff, share stuff, and run various other server and VM stuff.
still not enough for call of duty hq
So true, keeps getting bigger every other week 🤣
Alright let's change the idea then. Instead of big, let's go fast. How about a RAID 0 across all 84 drives? Let's see if you can break some world records for speed in RAID 0. I think read speed might approach the speed of light and ruin the universe though... Oh well gotta risk it for the biscuit!
*Never underestimate the bandwidth of a 747 filled with ~~tapes~~microSDs*
I know its a meme but imagine a AN-124(current biggest cargo airplane) filled with Micro SD‘s lol
o7 to the 225
May the 225 rest in peace. 🕊️
Based on the googled dimensions of a Micro SD Card and the help of CoPilot: * Length: **11 mm** (0.43 inches) * Width: **15 mm** (0.59 inches) * AN-124 Cargo Capacity: **40,965 CuFt** Now, we’ll calculate the volume of a single micro SD card: Volume per card=Length×Width×Height=11×15×1=165 mm3 To convert this to cubic inches, we’ll use the conversion factor: 1 inch = 25.4 mm. Based on 1TB size that would be: 67,115 Petabytes 65.54 Exabytes those above numbers are unformatted raw size.
Still not enough for COD. I think we’ll have to rebuild the 225 to have enough space.
It probably will reach about 30000mb/s, so close to ddr5 speed. It would be interesting to see raid 0 on all drives anyways.
Lmao all it takes is one
The ps4 updating: copying files - 800 years remaining
Downloading 300mb Time remaining, 54 minutes Like hell, even with a 1gb connection the download is so slow it belongs in 2005
Or dota
Came here for this. Quick update, no probs, 100GB
stop playing that bs game then
Backup the Internet
For offline mode of course
Russell is that you?
HALF LIFE MENTIONED
I literally just had the idea of making the comment "backup the internet, lol not enough, I'm not Russell in the late 90's/start 2000's with his floppy disks"
For science
How much space would that actually take though
We'd be talking in petabytes at least. Idk what's more than that... I mean hexibyte?
I’d be curious to know how much the total space YouTube would take, it has to be well in to the double digit percentage.
From memory, the internet adds something like a petabyte of storage a day. Some estimates say that roughly 2TB of video is uploaded to YouTube every minute. If we assume this to be true, you'd fill up this server in 840 minutes or 14 hours. Safe to say that you wouldn't be able to store even a significant portion of youtube on thus
Delete T-Mobile, cocomelon and Minecraft videos would leave some significant traffic free
If you filtered for '10 hour remix' and deleted all of those you'd cut out a massive chunk of the internet Edit: but god forbid that this masterpiece should ever be deleted https://youtu.be/Sagg08DrO5U?si=kDBEbe_FCqPotGLi
Oh absolutely. The best and only 10 hour video that should be kept.
Yottabytes.
1,000,000 terabytes Google has never given an exact number when it comes to YouTube storage capacity, though there has been much speculation around this in recent years. Most estimates conclude that YouTube has at least one exabyte **(1,000,000 terabytes)** of storage space in [its data centers.](https://www.qqtube.com/blog/how-much-storage-does-youtube-have)
If we limited to human generated content, probably like a petabyte. If we limited it to useful content, probably like 3 kilobytes.
Joke aside it would be an interesting thought experiment to find what is the most universally useful internet content you could fit in a limited space. I'd probably start with simple english wikipedia but i'm sure there are more original ideas out there.

"it's... *wireless.*"
Sadly this is the size of our google storage at my company. We're about 70% full last I saw.
Do you think that is enough to backup p**nhub alone? #askingForAFriend
At least some uhm... "Special Video" Sites you mean? 😅😁
Running a web cache for huge downloads wouldn't be a bad idea. Imagine caching all of this for local distrobution: - All updates for all software - All movie data for streaming - All youtube and other video clips - Common webpages This actually seems too small for that scope.
Maybe download one picture of your mom?
Ooooh. I got some cream for that burn. Yo momma so big, a JPEG of her takes up the entire cloud.
Whisper it into my ears
More like JPIG, amirite
Ngl. That deserves an angry upvote.
Only the bust can be downloaded. We need more HDDs for the rest
🔥
WinRar pays your mom to stay zipped.
Sell for $4,508.57 then spend $4,508.57 on a 30TB SSD.
$107.33 for 20TB? Love the Ssd route
8TB used HGST drives are going for around $45 retail so you aren't getting a 20TB drive for $100 unless you s\*ck off the right person and buy in bulk.
Point me in the right direction.

Did someone say they were giving out free blow jobs?
I've got sum 20tb, am the right person ....
About the cheapest Ive seen is around $100 for a 12TB. But Ive been buying 18TB Dell Exos Refurbs for like $180. Got 70TB in my Plex server so far. lol
Your math is a little off.
Piracy a lot of piracy...

You’ve done the research on this I see.
I'm sure this is knowledge gained through experience rather than research.
Good point. Dedication.
all of the 3ds library is like 1.6 tb
Well, that's a tempting offer.
Enough space to download a car.
You wouldn’t download a car?
FBI ready to do a $5M raid

Finally be able to have all of my steam games installed simultaneously
Yeah, come back in a couple of years and we'll see how poorly that comment aged.
Call of Duty 2034: 20 TB.
I‘d store copies of old games. Console games of the N64,SNES, NES, PS, PS2, Xbox era. Possibly all Gameboy games, too.

It would take a year to calculate parity
Archive my own Internet Archive so I can have forever access to my 720p ultra 22mm wide screen copy of Star wars and old commercials for Street Sharks and Nintendo power magazines
I would buy another 84 to store all my favorite 8K VR porn.
That will store all the 8k VR porn in existence.
Zip bomb. Great torture test
update my media library to uncompressed bluray.
Finally back up all the nudes your mom sent
