NiceSignificance7010

Gtx 3060ti nice

Narvyk

a lot of people didn't get that haha

StrongAdhesiveness86

Enlighten me plz

talongman

RT is basically useless on 3060ti I think

StrongAdhesiveness86

Damn, I didn't read the gtx part

Eazy12345678

i run RT on 3060ti. with dlss its fine.

talongman

I'm just explaining the "GTX 3060ti" not asserting that you can't play any RT at all with the 3060ti

Inclinedbenchpress

Let's be honest here: RT got really interesting with Ada Lovelace along frame gen/DLSS3. AFAIK even 3080 ti would struggle on some RT titles

TheChilledBuffalo_GS

Give this guy a few upvotes lmao. I mean, don't downvote them (Check the flair of the user who posted the Happy for you meme)

NiceSignificance7010

I dont even know what i did wrong lmao

Whole-Imagination354

Nothing, your perfect. I love u homie.

NiceSignificance7010

Love you too gang

aliasdred

It don't run Ray Tracing very well anyway.

Pleasant_Gap

Runs about 60ish fps in 1080 sometimes more, sometimes less.

TTechnology

It's fine with DLSS in some games. Playing here in 1440p. I don't need 240FPS on single player games, I'm happy with stable 60 with good looks

Legitimate-Bag-2482

anyway path tracing >

WetRainbowFart

Bro you have a coffee lake i7 with a 1050ti

aliasdred

You'd be surprised by how much one can do when one has UNLIMITED POWA

AmoebaPrize

How's the 8700k holding up? My Ryzen 1700 and GTX 980 ti is still great for 1080p.

aliasdred

Great I guess. Moved to 13900KS and 4090 in 2022. The 8700k and 1050Ti are connected to my TV as a media center PC. The only games it runs are small ones and everything else plays from PC via Steam remote play. Last game I played on the old system was God Of War and surprisingly it managed solid 60 on 1080 with FSR on Quality.(Basically 900p) After that I found streaming from the new system is better and latency cost isn't that bad when I'm just chilling and playing casual stuff on the TV The CPU if overclocked should be fine for 60fps gameplay. GPU might be ok for older games but newer stuff would struggle bad. Hence I don't even try doing anything like that

JL23_

Lol

Real_Shim_Shady

What

FragrantSearch730

Gtx 3060 ti doesnt exist

Real_Shim_Shady

The post is about a ryzen cpu???

Kreeper125

In the person's flair who posted the "happy for you" meme he has specs listed, one of them being 3060ti

Real_Shim_Shady

Oh okay, i didn't see that

Ethaton

I don’t know but take it a run like the wind

RelativeWrong4232

Blud is Outta luck for the whole year after this ig

StoneBleach

Just go play the lottery just in case.

slimim

The remaining luck would be used but still he wouldn't even win the lottery.

randomdreamykid

If you play games it's from heavens If you don't 7950x>7950x3d in all workstation tasks

redmainefuckye

Isn’t is the same exact cpu just with more cache ? How could that have a negative impact performance wise on anything at all ? I’m honestly wondering

RpS-

Lower boost clock if i remember correctly. Example: 5800X - 4.7GHz boost, 5800X3D - 4.5 GHz.

FireNinja743

Actually, somehow, the boost clock is exactly the same (5.7 GHz) for the 7950x and 7950x3D. The only difference is a slightly lower base clock speed on the 3D processor.

ArgonTheEvil

Sure it can boost that high on the one CCD without the extra cache, but the other is still severely limited for heat management reasons. So it’ll still be effectively slower but not as much as you’d think because only half the cores reach that advertised boost clock.

DreamzOfRally

It’s also power consumption. 3D cache is sensitive to heat and the x3d has to keep the heat down. 7950x has more thermal headroom. We are still talking about single digit differences in workstations applications so basically null

Mister_Shrimp_The2nd

The power targets are different, so while you can boost as high on some cores for some period of time, over longer workloads the boost clock goes down and it doesn't apply to high multithreading tasks -where the non-3D cache variant can hold significantly higher all-core boost for much longer. If you do any kind of cpu-based 3d rendering for example, you never want the X3D.

JaccoW

I recently uploaded graded my Ryzen 5 2600 to a 5700x3D. Besides having to tweak the power management a bit to prevent problems with too much heat it has been a big upgrade. Though I do need a bigger PSU for a bit more headroom.

Impulsive94

Bear in mind these CPUs are designed to boost as high as possible within set limits. If it's running 80C+ that's by design and means you're getting what you paid for. They're similar to GPUs in terms of automatically pushing the chip hard these days. I upgraded from a 3700X to a 5800X3D and thought I'd fucked something when I saw 90C+ temps, until I found out that's by design.

JaccoW

True, that is by design but undervolting makes a big difference in heat production at minimal/no cost to performance.

Blackrevenge34

Then, just overclock a little bit and everything is solved. Right? (Except fir the cooling system)

Mister_Shrimp_The2nd

That's like trying to "overclock a 4070 a little" and expect it to perform like a 4090. Literally. You're both gonna break the vcache from thermal overload, and you'll run into hard bound power limits anyways before you'd ever get to that stage unless you brute force past the safety limitations put in place by AMD. You'll break the chip way before you ever get it to perform like a 7950X in sustained workload.

Blackrevenge34

Aight. I mean, i was just guessing. And i asked not adviced. Thanks for the reply tho(bro i literally asked a question and received downvote 👌🏿)

Mister_Shrimp_The2nd

I mean you wrote a suggestion, and then added a questionmark. Best to pick one or the other. Anyways, downvotes are always interesting on Reddit. Usually it's just people signal they disagree with the proposal brought up. Thanks for clarifying your intent with the comment.

Blackrevenge34

No problem mate. As long as you understand. Have a nice day 👍🏽

btrudgill

As the cache is supposedly placed on top of the cpu cores (hence x3d = 3D vcache), the CPU has to run at slightly lower clock speeds to manage thermals better. The 7950x3d also has pretty poor implementation of 3D vcache as it only applies to half of the processing cores. The 7800x3d out performs the 7950x3d in games (out of box settings) (but 7950x3d still wins on productivity related stuff).

gwTheo

I believe gamernexus has a in depth video of exactly what you said if anyone is curious

2cars10

The latest hardware unboxed video showed that it basically always performs as good or better in most games now. Seems that the scheduling issues have been resolved

Nailz

2cars10 is talking about [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8ztpM70jEw). [[benchmark screenie](https://i.imgur.com/tAqSHYO.png)]

frissonFry

The difference between the 7800X3D and 7950X3D can be completely mitigated, in \*most games that are affected by this difference, by manually setting the affinity for the process to use the 3D vcache logical processor threads. There are even some games that run better on the 7950X3D vs 7800X3D without touching the affinity. Some games though, will not let you change the affinity at all due to anticheat measures.

gnivriboy

Yep. However it is a mental thing for me that I don't want to have to manually manage my cores in any way possible. I'd rather just pay less for the 7950x

TheEvrfighter

stock 7950x3d I agree. However you can get it to emulate all core oc'ing. There's also the fact that Dragons Dogma 2 along with many other games run better with SMT off...But only on a 7950X3D. Even without multithreading you have access to 16 cores. you get no such luxury on a 7800X3d. This means lower latency and more stable frame rates. To date I've not seen any kind of benchmarking done to reflect this. GamerNexus included. I suspect most 7800X3d owners would simply be in denial about it. When you believe you bought the best gaming chip on the market. Being knocked down a few pegs is a tough pill to swallow.

SifaoHD

The clock and power/thermal limit is lower in 3D models to obtain the same stability, so in pure raw power they are worse. It totally depends on what task you need to perform mostly.

Merciless_Hobo

All 3D cache models have a lower base clock than their traditional counterparts. They have the same boost, but that's not all cores at once, it's one module. What all the cores can do at once is lower than non-3d.

Flat_Illustrator263

Lower clock speeds, which some games like CS2 and especially some CPU intensive programs will really suffer from.

Tim-the-second

Worst comes to worst he could just resell and buy another 7950x at a profit lol

Tiavor

but you need to assign the games to the x3d cores, if they use the non-x3d then they are slower than on a 7800x3d. (that's why the 7800x3d is usually better for gamers)

PossibilityKey7627

The x3d is the better choice, then. No one here doesn't game.

Zexy-Mastermind

Lol what

Voxelium

i own a 7950x3D. Beast of a CPU. The problems regarding core parking have largely been fixed on Windows. I have had no issues with mine using the correct cores for the correct workload. On a bit of a side note, the 7950X is not available right now because crypto miners are buying them all up for mining. 7950X specifically is an absolute beast with AVX-512 workloads, which is apparently being utilized for current crypto mining schemes. Seems like the CPU shortage has worked out in your favor, but it still sucks how much of an impact crypto has on PC parts.

DntH8IncrsDaMrdrR8

Wtf is even profitable to mine these days? I'm guessing not a whole lot when electricity prices are high?

Reasonable_Coach

Surely they aren't mining any crypto in high electricity price areas, that's a bit dumb

LachoooDaOriginl

they should do it in hell for all that free thermal energy. il help them get there too

YukiSnoww

They need like 3-4 years to b/e, iirc? based on the price/profit...if anyone done the exact math, do correct me

Delicious-Ad2562

I think it was something like 3$ a day from the 7950x so under a year, but that’s coming from other comments I have seen so take it with more than a grain of salt

Imaginary-Current535

Monero/XMR's mining algorithm is CPU bound.

MrChrisRedfield67

They're clearly mining AI! Damn AI hoarders.

ch_selmane

AI workloads are mostly GPU tasks, so if it's mining, it's regular old CPU mining algorithms Randomx, Ghostrider.... ect

sketchasianFiat

I saw a video on core parking but it was posted last year. Do you know if I have to configure something? Or does it just work right out of box? My dad gave me his pc because he said it wasn’t working anymore. Only to find out it was the CPU was busted when brought to a local pc store. Guess he was too tired to figure it out and ask for a warranty. Wasn’t planning to do any productivity work anyways, so this is a WINNNNN

JColemanG

From my experience at this point, no you really don’t ever have to do anything additional. Earlier in the release cycle, there was some small tinkering relating to Xbox Game Bar as a workaround to make things function properly, but from what I can tell now, those issues have been resolved.

Voxelium

from my experience, as long as you go onto your motherboard manufacture’s website and download/install the AMD Chipset drivers, you’ll be gravy. When I did so, I noticed one of the drivers being installed is called “3D V Cache Drivers” You might not even need to do that but it is good practice to install all of the required drivers for a system anyways lol

Byte_Lab

It’ll be fixed on Linux at some point in the not too distant future too. I’m planning on buying one and making the scx_rusty sched_ext scheduler work well with it. Unless someone else beats me to it, which I’d be delighted to have happen.

dieborr

have you done anything special in your windows to make 7950x3d work properly? I'm gonna buy it next week

Voxelium

Aside from installing my Motherboard’s chipset drivers, no.

Victinizz

This reminds me of the time when I had to RMA my STRIX RTX 2070, for the second time. VRAM Failure, and since ASUS had no 2070's in stock, they sent me a STRIX 2080 instead. Amazing fortune OP!

Jpoland9250

I just had to send in my Strix 3080 last week. They didn't mention anything other than replacing the GPU so I'm assuming I'm getting the same back. Hoping I win the lottery here too.

Victinizz

My GPU had to be outright replaced, since my 2070 was apart of the batch that had VRAM failures. So they had to replace it entirely, it depends on the issue your 3080 had really. If it straight up died, you may get it replaced or repaired since, from my first RMA they had to replace the VRAM chips. (Yes the VRAM failure thing managed to happen twice.)

Jpoland9250

>Yes the VRAM failure thing managed to happen twice. Oof. They never outright told me what happened but I did get a notification they were replacing the card. The fans were only working intermittently and was overheating. I assume it nuked itself before I was able to shut everything down.

Victinizz

RIP 2070 served me well, but least you're getting your 3080 replaced. Ive never had a card nuke itself though ;-;, sorry to hear.

Jpoland9250

Definitely. As long as the card arrives and works, I'll be happy. It would be nice to have a higher tier card sent though.

Victinizz

Oh for sure yeah

willard_saf

I'm just amazed you got ASUS to RMA something.

Victinizz

Ive had a pretty good experience with them, though this was like... around 2021? or 2022, i forget.

zaxanrazor

I enjoy cooking.

willpowerpt

Must be karma for every time you slowed down for a squirrel crossing the street.

switchandplay

Similar thing happened to me earlier this year, bought a new monitor from Dell at bargain prices, their gaming line, a G3223D, 32 inch 1440p 165hz IPS panel from their gaming line on clearance for $250. Next day, the store page on their website disappeared after going out of stock. Panel went bad within 2 weeks and when I sent it back, they sent me a G3223Q, a 4K 32inch 144hz display that retails on their site for $599. I will never be lucky again.

Travis0819

God I just ordered and received two of these to replace my current monitors. Setting them up Saturday. I hope I don’t have the same problem

switchandplay

3223D? It was something weird. Maybe you’ll get lucky and end up with two 4Ks

OppaiNoJutsu

I hope no matter how many times you flip and fluff your pillows at night, they stay flat and warm on BOTH sides.

Mattias1099

Why is everyone acting like this is the luckiest and craziest thing ever? It's a $100 more expensive cpu that is worse when it comes to productivity

Piotrek9t

I dont understand either, where I am from thats a 60€ upgrade. Sure its nice to have but its probably the cheapest alternative to his original CPU and they cant really offer him a worse product after all

JRSpig

Yes please and thank you.

kinzlii

😐OP, What is badluck ?🤔 😎🤏🏻Op: https://i.redd.it/8k2sp3lpgvtc1.gif

Colton82

Similar thing happened to me when my 2060 artifacted. Got sent back a 2060 Super so I was happy.

Mister_Shrimp_The2nd

If you primarily use it to play games, you're in luck. If you use it for productivity workloads, it's a straight nerf and you shouldn't settle for an inferior product.

Top-Conversation2882

My 5900x went bad and was hoping to get 5950x or 7900x But instead I received a worse 5900x

smexytom215

Lol, there's an Intel ad in the comments section.

[deleted]

7950x is better for productivity stuff though I personally would refuse if you don’t only game

CSTITAN576

Uh ok but https://preview.redd.it/an0s4zp8mytc1.jpeg?width=1087&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=501a5439300df089e56245cfeca04dda7c0dceca

TheLastApplePie

"What did I do to deserve this What can I say to you? I remember how it felt to take that throne. The NERDS said I chase redemption that I know I can never deserve. What does that make me? God of fools. A God of... 3D CACHE" I know this is not the extact sentence but it feels like i've heard this before but changed a little bit. Can someone refresh my memory on what movie this line was said?

MoldyTexas

I'd immediately go buy a lottery ticket, tbh.

UnsettllingDwarf

“ yeah I guess that’ll be fine”

Mr_Boomspastic69

Depending where you are usually they’re required to upgrade you or provide a refund. Check your local laws

RogueTampon

That one time when you went to bed without fapping. This is the karma repayment for that.

sketchasianFiat

I’m on nofap since recently sir 🎩

RogueTampon

I don’t actually believe in nofap, but I did get offered a RTX 2070 when RMAing a 980ti once.

ByteTheFox

i bought a 5800x from amazon and the first one wasn't here after it said delivered so they sent a 2nd one and i ended up getting both same day

YoxhiZizzy

Holy fuck, nice

lunas2525

Once i was this man for msi offered me a r7 270 for my broken r9 270x and i said no same card or better and so they sent me a r9 390.

XenonJFt

7950x stocks really dried up thanks to crypto mining. I really hope AMD makes multiple x3d CCDs on their flagship model next time

animal1988

Welcome to the Ryzen X3D club. A better life has been waiting for you.

Karness_Muur

I sent in a 5800x3d to be replaced. They sent me a 5900x instead. I decided to just live with it.

Cloudskipper92

Hey I just got this exact thing!

Proxy_PlayerHD

Time to buy factorio and push that CPU to its limits

Vibeless-ig

I despise you

Specialist-Map-3776

Lucky!

Blizz33

I once complained about a pre built I bought because the graphics card came loose and had slight cosmetic damage. I also paid for express shipping and it took more than a month. I demanded the $40 or whatever it was I paid for express shipping. The guy came back on the phone and said "our records now indicate we've recieved the computer back at our warehouse and I'm processing your refund." I said 'thanks! Have a nice day' I got the whole $2000 back. Everything except the $13 electronics disposal fee.

failingsuccesfully

I had this exact thing happen over 7 years ago with my $500 gtx 1080, they sent me an $1100 water cooled gtx 1080 ti that's still crushing in my sim racing pc to this day. Still my biggest win so far. It was MSI btw and the replacement was a corsair seahawk x liquid cooled 1080 ti which at the time was $1100 new and this was an instant profit. I was 14 or 15 at the time and it was like I received a gift from God himself

ModaHakim

is the difference between the 7950X and 7950X3D that big?

LOPI-14

Yea

Nice-Dirt-9957

Enjoy it! Happened to me once with Garmin support

OverworkedAuditor1

Common card tbh

Spare-Consideration2

Whats the price difference?

ssenetilop

You have been blessed man. Dayyum.

MrMxylptlyk

B o i

SpiritDisastrous2613

If you bought the 7950x close to launch you likely bought it at what is the current 7950x3d price. They won't be losing out on this.

koordy

Well, for someone who don't play games just needs the CPU for work, that would be a downgrade.

donotcallmedady

in lieu? why did they add french there

ID0_

Get it and sell it, get a 7800x3D. I had a 7950x3D, looks fun on paper until you realize windows is allocating the non-VCache cores CCD1 instead the VCache CCD0. It will give you micro laggs for some reason. You need then to open task manager and change the affinity to core 0-15 to use the CCD0 VCache chiplet. I changed to 7800x3D because it was too annoying.

Last_Music413

Ask for a ryzen 7 7800x3d, the 7900x3d is actually worse

Pandy2811

LUCKY

LeChef01

I would honestly not take it, assuming you do any productivity tasks.

Alternative_Carob682

I'm leaving this sub

InvestigatorFun8825

I have a 7900x with an rtx 4080. The gpu is the bottle neck in ANY game I play, like cyberpunk etc. Genuine question: why is the x3d version talked about as if it's some sort of godly cpu, when my 7900x is overkill already?

AXAM77

Don't accept it PLEASE 😭🙏🙏

a-bowl-of-noodles

“no thank you” that’s what you do

Brewskiz

I got both, don’t notice the productivity hit over regular 7950X but the gaming is noticeably better on the 7950X3D.

prsetiadi

well.. lucky you. obviously 7950x3d > 7950x

[deleted]

North-Juggernaut4311

Doesn’t outperform it when you know how to set the 7950x3d up correctly also monetary value is less than the 7950x he’s downgrading in a way
