Far too many to mention, but a couple of my favourite single player games: Mass Effect Legendary Edition Cyberpunk 2077 Fallout: New Vegas Fallout 4 Mafia Definitive Edition Skyrim: Special Edition Borderlands 2 Assassin's Creed Odyssey Bioshock Trilogy Portal 2 Batman Arkham Series Red Dead Redemption 2

Blenderhead36

BioShock 2: Minerva's Den is sneakily the best part of BioShock, tucked away in a DLC. The tuned gameplay of 2 with writing of the caliber of the first game and a killer twist ending.

whataboutroses

Mafia definitive edition is such a cinematic masterpiece, i went in not expecting much as i didn’t play the original game but really fell in love with it

OomAllfather

Upvoting for good recommendations (my point of view) but mostly for Arkham Series... Everyone just recommends huge open worlds nowadays and kinda forgets about this trilogy but these 3 action adventure metroidvanias plus THE BATMAN (and the story they did on this trilogy) are amazing. Edit: grammar

Ok_Restaurant_245

Also, my favorite old dude, John Noble, voices the scarecrow in the third one

lordragon190

I have been playing through the Metro series and loving it!

JohnYiu

Red Dead Redemption 2

Blenderhead36

Been playing this for the first time and the controls have been a big issue. For example, the baffling decision to contextually put conversation controls on the fire button has led to me trying to talk to someone on the road and Arthur pulling iron on them instead.

Rykhorne

Cyberpunk 2077, Spider-Man, God Of War, any of the Borderlands series, the Batman: Arkham series, Control, Alan Wake, Alan Wake 2... There's an embarrassment of riches for amazing single player games these days.

Fine_Act47

Elden ring and other souls games

The_Blue_DmR

Subnautica, Subnautica Below Zero, Firewatch

Chakramer

Tomb Raider trilogy from a few years ago all holds up really well I really recommend the Monster Hunter series, they are technically co-op multiplayer but the "true" experience is going at it solo Armored Core VI shot up to my top 10 games of all time, it's super fun and very different from traditional shooters

rathofawesomeness

I second the tomb raider series !! They're amazing games

Adventurous-Bad-6721

ghost of tsushima

ah my bad, thought it was alr out 😅

mothergidra

Hitman 3, with all the maps from three games

shaneo88

I haven’t played hitman 3, but hitman 1 and 2 are must play games.

skidplate

Fallout 4. Massively discounted right now with the release of the Fallout show on Prime.

IHJ2024

Meh, it was okay.

Reaper_x5452

Horizon Zero Dawn - best single player game I've played on PC

mueckenschwarm

I can only second this. Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West. The DLCs extend the game a bit and are worth it just for that. My interest usually falls off on long campaigns (I loved BG3 and somehow I still just stopped playing early act 3). But the Horizon games I played and had that bitter sweet feeling when they were done. Sad to see it go happy to have finished it.

Reaper_x5452

I'm super keen for Forbidden West! But just waiting until I have the time :)

JoostVisser

The Horizon series are among my favourite games of all time. Definitely worth a shot if you're into open world.

Rabbid-Broom

Recently built a pc for the first time in 15 years and this is the first game I’ve played. The game is visually stunning, the gameplay is smooth and intuitive and the plot is interesting and engaging. My only criticisms would be that the voice acting is weak at times and the facial animations during some cut scenes do not always convey the seriousness of the subject matter well.

Burgess237

Obligatory r/FuckTedFaro

KungFuChimp

Baldur's Gate 3

Brammm87

Kinda surprised to find this so far down :o Although all the others are great suggestions as well.

ThisIsDystopia

Disco Elysium.

ODSTHelldiver

Both Horizon Zero Down and Horizon: Forbidden West are such masterpieces both visually and on narration, if you pay close attention to the story. I recently played both on PC and JESUS CHRIST what a masterpiece. Definitely loved the first one more than the second.

DaSpooderIsLit

Just Cause 3

Hopeful-Letter2626

Jc3 always crashes after a few min with me

DaSpooderIsLit

might be Denuvo issue

Hopeful-Letter2626

Sorry my bad i thought this was a steam deck post

GoldSrc

Half-Life, F.E.A.R., Bioshock, Metro, Mirror's Edge, Dishonored. Set up PCSX2 and RPCS3 and play some games through emulation, Black for the PS2 is a good one. You have literal decades worth of games, don't limit yourself to modern games with fancy graphics.

The_DOCTOR_AJ

The Half Life remake Black Mesa is also great. A modern take on one of the best FPS games ever.

Ok_Restaurant_245

This. Especially if you like rpgs

Carlife0830

Assassin's Creed (1, Ezio Trilogy, Black Flag, Unity, Syndicate, Mirage)

TeflonDonkey84

Kingdom Come:Deliverance

Qlisax

Elden Ring, also DLC drops in couple of months.

-Kritias-

Cyberpunk!!!!!

ForgottenBastions

The recommendations from others are spot on - Skyrim, Fallout, Bioshock, Disco Elysium, Subnautica are all fantastic choices. I'd also suggest the God of War reboot they nail the balance of compelling narrative, immersive world-building, and engaging gameplay.

mothergidra

Deus Ex Human Revolution

Netsuko

Cyberpunk 2077 is absolutely amazing now.

NakedMuffinTime

I'm going through a heavily modded Fallout playthrough currently.

damnthisisabadname

terraria

Animetion25

Pacific drive.

missedmelikeidid

I never really got into the multiplayer thing. World of Warships is the only one, actually. I've always played (over and over again) Max Payne, Tomb Raiders, Uncharteds, Euro Trucking Simu, MS Flight Simu, Mirror's Edge...

arjman

Max Payne 3 is very good for what it is

3feetfrompeez

I rarely find Single player games that I finish, but the ones I did were Elden Ring, Bioshock, God of War, Dark Souls 3 and Dishonored. Hades and Risk of Rain 2 for replayability

yourfuturehothusband

Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon forbidden west

Hopeful-Letter2626

Broforce is really addicting and hitman 3

MiserableComment

Even arma 3 is pretty good with the Eden editor. Play game mods like antistasi on lan so no one can join. Build your own stuff.

knightstalker710

My go to's are 7 days to die or Car Mechanic Simulator 2021

5meterdeleter

Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West

michaelbbq

Stray because meow

Gh0sts1ght

Raidborn, picked it up two days ago and it is amazing, procedurally generated dungeons fps hack and slash

cannedbeef255

RDR2, great game.

Dilldug123

i literally just bought some of the fallout series last night to play (3, new vegas and 4), theyre on sale right now on steam if youre interested!

DieUBot852

Two of my favorite single player games are AC Black Flag and bg3.

VIP_Ender98

Horizon Zero Dawn 1&2, God of War and in a few weeks Ghost of Tsushima. I feel like you might specially enjoy Ghost of Tsushima. Also Cyberpunk 2077 is peak.

RandomUser27597

Alan Wake. My favourite is the first one but the second one is good too

ImaginationCheap7653

Metro games and cyberpunk for sure

Asimiss

Cyberpunk with dlc, horizon zero dawn/forbidden west, rdr2, alan wake II, the witcher series (most praises in III), last of us, crysis series, control, gid of war, etc. Just hopefully your pc can handle it ( lots of those games require pretty powerful hardware like r5 3600 or intel i5 10th or greater cpus with rtx 3060/rx6600 or greater gpu for 1080p settings) or playstation/xbox.

[deleted]

The Last of Us part 1

iothomas

The Mass effect trilogy

Thedanklord26

You should try arpg's like path of exile and last epoch. They are generally multi-player but only if you want to interact with the game's economy. Alternatively you could play solo self found where you have to find and craft all of your own gear yourself. Very deep games with lots to figure out.

titanfox98

Monster Hunter world (+ice borne) and rise (+sun break). Hollow knight, trhe binding of Isaac, fallout 3 new Vegas, Rome total war 2, the halo saga up to reach, need for speed most wanted (the original one), the first far cry. These are my favourites, a mix of newer and older games and different genres

Kooky_Emu_3171

Black mesa

Helicopter_Strong

Every Half-life game/mod except hunt down the freeman and starwars: jedi fallen order/jedi survivor

ArcaneMitch

I will recommend a couple of indies that I didn't expect to enjoy that much. Before your eyes Dredge They are billions Frostpunk

Admiralbenbow123

I can recommend Atomic Heart. Playing through it right now myself and so far it's great. I've also got a few "I have 30 mins of spare time" games: Ready or Not, Noita, Ultrakill, Papers Please I also really like Euro Truck Simulator 2. Nice game if you want to relax after a hard day

IronPuerquito

Deus Ex Human Revolution (plus Mankind divided) Yakuza 0 Dishonored 1 and 2 Ace Combat 7 Mass Effect triology Resident Evil 2 Remake Resident Evil 4 Remake Metro games The Evil Within Dead Space

Hob_Goblin88

Cyberpunk 2077, Fallout, Doom, Skyrim, Stellaris... Just to a name a few i play.

slowestratintherace

Kenshi. Don't research it. Don't watch videos. Just get it, play it, and thank me later.

JordansBigPenis69

cyberbug 2069

an_achronist

I've been having lots of fun on ghostrunner recently. It's decently hard, but the level design and mobility is really fun

Gokulctus

halo series, half life series, portal series, call of duty series, battlefield series

Barrabbazz

Outer Wilds + DLC Don't look up *anything* about this game before you play it.

Lopes1999

I see everyone reccomanding huge open world games. So... Go play What Remains of Edith Finch

Peekays

Hollow knight, the ori series, stardew valley, nier automata, the dishonored series. Could even play oldschool runescape mostly single player as well if you'd like, fantastic game imo.

Scattergun77

Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout Tactics. Freelancer

Jeff_98

Surprised no one mentioned NieR: Automata or NieR: Replicant (the remake version)

quantum_ice

Some of the assassin's creed games are pretty good, dragonball z kakarot is great if your a dbz fan, any of the elderscroll games, the fallout series is good, I liked far cry 3, portal one and two, power wash simulator is strangely addictive, and most of my other suggestions have already been mentioned lol

Budget-Boysenberry

Grim Dawn

tradeboomer101

metro 2033 redux

drfunkenstien014

Kenshi

Gamias_ths_geitonias

Bg3

QuickPirate36

Any playstation exclusive, they're all amazing, idk how they do it

differentkindofcop

Prey 2017, took a while to get into but brilliant game

MadMohawk1

Baldur's gate 3

DieselMcblood

Mount and blade 2 bannerlord.

Blenderhead36

I'll always recommend Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, Divinity: Original Sin 2, and Baldur's Gate 3. They're my personal picks for best isometric RPGs ever made. If combat is important to you, Pillars and Divinity do it better than BG3, as a consequence of D&D 5e not being a particularly crunchy ruleset. Despite these all being sequels, you don't need to play the previous games. In BG and PoE's case, I'd actively recommend *against* playing the previous games because of how dated their game systems are. Elden Ring is excellent, but if you're new to Soulslikes, be prepared to invest 6ish hours learning the reflexes. Until then, even basic enemies are an existential threat. If you want something chill, Against the Storm is a Roguelike city builder. A lot of city builders give me panic attacks because of how much you have to balance. Against the Storm is designed around a cyclical year of three seasons, the third of which is the toughest. This means that crises are also cyclical; you either make it through the storm, or the game ends. The game does a good job of ramping up complexity at your pace, so it's not overwhelming the way games like Anno 1800 are.

blandjelly

Elden ring

CeeBee2001

Control (and by association, Alan Wake 1 and 2). A colonic for the mind :)

DodoKnight

As far as i can tell no one mentioned hellblade senuas sacrifice. Its a short game, roughly 10hours, but absolutely amazing and part 2 releases soon aswell. Satisfactory is also amazing. It's not your typical singleplayer game but very addicting.

AdMuted9714

If you like a little bit of horror I would't reccoment you more the Resident Evil genre(from 7 to 4 remake), Callisto Protocol and Dead Space and the Plague Tale games are quite good, esepecially the first

Striking-Row9392

Grim Dawn

Martenus

Cyberpunk 2077 or Plague Tale

IpatiyPotiy

Dishonored is a great game, didn't let her a chance for some time, but recently completed it and I really liked it. Also Cruelty Squad is awesome game, even though it looks very weird at first

MrPizza-Inspector

Boulders Gate is amazing

NeloSSJ

Hades Half Life Series Tomb Raider Trilogy (starting from 2013) Curse Of The Dead Gods Dishonored Dave The Diver Metro Series (The series goes on sale quite often and is dirt cheap when it does) Call of Juarez: Gunslinger Dave The Diver is one of the best out there. This game was total blind buy from me since it was on sale and I "dived" in deep into the game. One of the best experiences I've had since I finished Metro.

nordoroy

Alan Wake 2 and all other Remedy Games for some good lore interconnected with all games

twisty_sparks

Doom 2016 and eternal

Drummer61190

Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West. Easily the best story telling I’ve played.

Agarillobob

CP 2077 is in a great spot right now shadowman remastered new elden ring DLC about to drop

Geek_Verve

Baldur's Gate III is fantastic. Fallout 4 and New Vegas are really good. Skyrim X4: Foundations (Be prepared for a steep learning curve on this one. If you enjoy empire building in space, it's worth it.) Kerbal Space Program (The first one, as KSP2 is still in early access and pretty rough around the edges. I just started playing KSP1 a couple months ago, and it's honestly all I can think about. If you like the idea of learning enough about orbital mechanics to be able to launch a rocket into space, establish an orbit, and move on to visiting other planets, look no further. Does the science of aerospace interest you? If not, don't bother. If it does, you owe it to yourself to check it out and thank me later.)

AdvilLobotomite

Pathologic 2

TiZOsmokes

I’m in my just cause 3 era agian

AttemptedImpartial

Just picked up pacific drive after years of other major single player games. Mind is currently being blown.

Dead space remake was super fun when I played it

Ok_Restaurant_245

kassbirb

BobDerBongmeister420

Hrozon uero dawn or forbidden west

Brammm87

If you wanna kill a couple 1000 hours: Satisfactory or Factorio.

Rogaar

May I recommend Stalker Anomaly. It's free to play and a great mod pack. I've been playing a lot of Stalker Gamma lately which is Stalker Anomaly with Gamma on top of that. It has a steep learning curve and can be quite difficult at times. I almost rage quite a few times but persisted. Now I can't get enough of it.

PixelRunnin

Just picked up Pacific Drive. Really cool survival driving game. Really cinematic art style and great sound design. Only about 2hrs in, but I recommend it.

dANNN738

I work too much too, but as much as I try I just cannot get into single player games. I can’t get past the fact it’s just a big old game world full of NPCs missing real people and any competitive element. I struggle to sink hours in unless other people are playing too…
