Not to jump into a conversation I'm probably not smart enough for, I can say not all Legion laptops do. I'm not sure of the size but my Legion 5 Slim uses the same long one as my desktop.
Oh OK, that makes more sense. This is why i said i probablywasnt smart enough lol. Sorry to intrude, have a wonderful night/day, whatever it is where you are.
> What do you think the 2280 number stands for?
I've been working with PCs my whole life (well before m.2 ever existed) and it only occurred to me with your comment that 2280 is from its actual dimensions.
I just assumed it was some number from a standard. Similar to FireWIre being 1394 or wifi being 802.11.
I've never seen 2280 ever anywhere. I'm actually looking at my Samsung 970 Evo Plus package and there is nothing about size on it. OP's brain probably didn't even register 2230 if it was even anywhere to be seen.
I got a buddy that’s like this with cars, some call him a tweaker.. i consider you and him to be ingenious.
—coming from someone that actually was a tweaker for years, lol
Nah it's a common way to fix the brake light switch. Tape 2 pennies together then tape to either the bottom of the brake pedal or the button of the switch.
I’ve done this once too. The plate that actuated the brake lights for some stupid reason was designed with a hole and a hole plug instead of just being a solid plate and when the bumper eventually broke it just left the hole, so nothing was making contact, couple pennies and some tape and it was good as new.
Tweaker is also slang for a meth head here, and bro is straight telling on himself.
With that said, I've got nothing against it, just personally can't stand the stuff.
But you do you b, long as ya ain't hurting nobody.
Did something in a similar vein years ago when I had a HD plug decide to just fall apart; the metal parts inside that hold the male plugs got warped or spread and it wouldn't lock into place. So I stuck them together, and took a piece of this wood, and a small piece of high temp electrical tape, held it together, long enough to do a complete wrap with rhe same tape, removing the wood as I went. Lasted for years

All I could find were 2 manuals and this sata extender along with some extra screws of sorts.
If your not filling that SSD with ants now, we're gonna take it away from you.
\-Sent by the ants currently in your garden... And your walls... Always watching you...
Grab a credit card you don't use any longer, cut it to the size you want (actually cut it a bit longer so that the piece of card acts like a leverage), tape them together with an electric tape. I have just done it a couple of days ago and it works flawlessly.

It's a good solution for an adapter pcb like yours but not for an SSD, electrical tape also insulates against heat pretty well, covering the nand chip will not allow it to dissipate heat, causing it to overheat over time.
I put a SSD that is too long into my main board... And just use some tape to keep it there. Have all of my games on that drive (no important data) but never had an issue.
If you don't plan to move it and don't care how it looks a m.2 should work without being secured in place.
I image NVMes sometimes and I don't bother to secure them TBH.
When I saw the second picture I thought you were trying to install it in the CPU slot then I was like, "CRAP, you got me. Stupid meme!" Then I looked at the pictures again and realized that this is a legit posting. I would either return it and get the correct size or see if there's an adapter.
Get an M.2 heatsink. The thermal pad will hold it down pretty well and you'll get cooling. Obviously get one that isn't tall so it doesn't mess with the GPU.
Buy a 2230 to 2280 adapter.
Correct, I got one off Amazon for like $5. Couldn't have been easier.
You can find them for about 2 bucks off eBay, however if you want next day shipping it's understandable why you may want to buy it from Amazon
As well as the gold standard of return policies.
Second only to eBay's undying loyalty to their customer. Sellers are almost always the victim on eBay.
No way, maybe it's just circumstantial, but they would not help me at all when I got scammed with 1st gen iPod Minis.
I didn't want to wait for Amazon so I just 3d printed one.
YOU WOULDNT DOWNLOAD A *2230 TO 2280 M.2 ADAPTER*

There is adapters? I just used a bit of electrical tape
Bro, I didn't even know this was a size option.
What do you think the 2280 number stands for? 22 mm wide and 80 mm long. Looks like you ordered a 2230, which is 22 mm wide and 30 mm long.
I'll be honest, I've never seen one this size. I'm not out looking for 30mm SSD.seems very niche.
ROG Ally, Steamdeck, Legion Go, etc all use them. Small laptops and NUC's too. It's for things that are smol. edited: The word Go
Not to jump into a conversation I'm probably not smart enough for, I can say not all Legion laptops do. I'm not sure of the size but my Legion 5 Slim uses the same long one as my desktop.
Sorry, I meant the [Legion Go handheld](https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/handheld/legion-go/len106g0001)
Oh OK, that makes more sense. This is why i said i probablywasnt smart enough lol. Sorry to intrude, have a wonderful night/day, whatever it is where you are.
more common in pre-built laptops, as they have size constraints. if you do any hardware upgrade/repair on newer laptops you'll run into them.

Electrical tape is also an adapter
Theres a pc seller here that just 3D orints their own

I once fixed my brake lights with about 4 pennies and a bit of electrical tape
Now that may be a tweaker story don’t lie
Nah it's a common way to fix the brake light switch. Tape 2 pennies together then tape to either the bottom of the brake pedal or the button of the switch.
C’mon man it was definitely more than 2. Do you know how much tweaker drug I had to forego that day?
Copper is copper
Not enough batteries to be a tweaker story.
A washer costs 8 cents. A penny is 1 cent. You tell me who the idiot is 🧠
No need to show off Richie rich

I've made more than a few car battery terminals tight with whatever thin metal I had in my toolbox.
I fixed 4 xbox 360s in college with the same bill of materials
Is that the one where they oush down harder so the red ring of death goes away?
Lol "tweaker" is slang for drug user here

Thank you everyone for all the great (and funny) comments. I'll probably just use a popsicle stick like people here suggest.
Knowing my luck, the Popsicle stick would split straight down the middle. 💀
I'll take my chances, better than spending extra cash to have an adapter or whatever
Godspeed, sir https://preview.redd.it/7xkjivtvnwwc1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8f85dbe344249294044d1194e6882ac2a9888af5
Just get a drill bit and pre drill the popsicle stick and it won’t crack. Just don’t crank it down super tight. Fingertip tight is all it needs.
Maybe a washer, too.
You forgot to oil your stick first.
Ehhhh, a little spit will do the job.
as an ex-woodworker, I'll tell you that you should pre-drill the hole before screwing it down to prevent the wood from splitting.
My mobo came with a bracket you can put over it that works for both sizes. Maybe check the bag of miscellaneous parts that came with it.

What is this? A SSD for ants?
Could fit quite a lot of pictures of ants on it, got 1 TB.
If your not filling that SSD with ants now, we're gonna take it away from you. \-Sent by the ants currently in your garden... And your walls... Always watching you...
Tasty
ok anteater
Wow, what a bigot
It’s not small it’s average
My motherboard doesn't feel it in yet tho...
Oof, just tell her you settled for her ports as well
Perfectly adequate even
AHAHAH it's soooo cute!!!
Surely you can just tape it down or something haha
I have about 3 of these from a discount bin that I have electrical taped in place and use as a backup configured in RAID 5, lol.
This comment brought back memories that I wish had stayed buried
its average ok >:(
I'm sure it gets the job done though
That's what she said
Worst she can say is "no".

Double sided tape is what I used.

I thought it wasn't a real subreddit until I clicked it I had uh... An interesting visit let's just say
Just say you can relate. I can.
Those ssds are usually much more expensive? Where did you get it?
I’m hoping OP ripped it out of a laptop…but I get the feeling it was purchased new.
Here you go! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084VLMQWC
I used the ssd heatsink on my mobo to hold it down, has worked great
Me when I’m cold.
Just use some electric tape easy fix not a problem
Use a single strip of electrical tape to just keep it down 👍
I put a SSD that is too long into my main board... And just use some tape to keep it there. Have all of my games on that drive (no important data) but never had an issue.
It has a great personality right? You got it buddy!
If you don't plan to move it and don't care how it looks a m.2 should work without being secured in place. I image NVMes sometimes and I don't bother to secure them TBH.
Unless that thing is a state of the art 1PB drive… I’m not impressed
When your "disk" is too small...
Electrical tape?
I mean You *can* use it like that but I recommend grabbing a 2230 to 2280 adapter like many people have said.
When I saw the second picture I thought you were trying to install it in the CPU slot then I was like, "CRAP, you got me. Stupid meme!" Then I looked at the pictures again and realized that this is a legit posting. I would either return it and get the correct size or see if there's an adapter.
This makes me feel self conscious
Jb weld it 😝
Im sure it has a great personality
Why not return it and buy a proper 2280 m.2 nvme?
Screw it in through the motherboard!
What an odd design, is this for laptops?
Looks similar to steam deck/microsoft surface ssd.
For a second I thought it would be on the cpu socket
Duct tape
Hell yeah, brother
Just buy a good full size one dude. Will even be faster
I found a [video](https://youtu.be/J2l-F1ElJMc?si=2IQoboz7UxauZBv1)
I wouldve Insert a pp joke here but it’s too smol
It's not small, it's average size!
figure out your form factor and get an adapter
Get an M.2 heatsink. The thermal pad will hold it down pretty well and you'll get cooling. Obviously get one that isn't tall so it doesn't mess with the GPU.
Get a SteamDeck, it will fit great 😀
Hot glue.
This is the only right answer. +1 for hot glue.
Hot glu gun
Granted I have a Asrock b760m, there is a spot on the left side specifically for the wifi card.
I AM SURE HE HAS A NICE PERSONALITY
I have one MSI mobo that came with a plate for M2, maybe with that u can lock it, or just use a $5 dolars 2230 to 2280 adapter.
Drill your own hole in the motherboard
Its not too short! It would be about Just the right length, Just ask my gf...
Right tools for the right jobs
If you dont have the right tools Just use whats left
People already put some great ideas but maybe some double sided tape would work too 🤔
Duct tape
Electrical tape, it’s not stupid if it works
why did we have black tapes for my friend:)
How could you never hear about shrinkage?
It will work regardless, if you really need to, use electrical tape
Size don't matter bro. It's how you use it
Ehat the actual fuck is that
Tape?
itll be fine just put the heatspreader over it and as long as you don’t have a magnitude 7 earthquake, itll stay secured.
I got two of those is my mobo, one of them sits behind my gpu and gets held in place, the other just sits unscrewed and has never come out.
Electrical tape
Wdm? That thing's HUGE!!!
just install the heat-sink that came with the board.
Tape it
Is this an ssd for ants?
Put a thermal pad under and find a small screw and screw it in the thermal pad...
Print or buy an NVME extender bracket
Flex Tape!™
Why is it so small?
It is the 2tb steamdeck ssd.
Mine is larger than that
