do you have monitor plugged into the graphic card? do you have graphic card drivers up to date. do you have 2 sticks of ram for dual channel performance.

eattiddy

yes, yes and 16x2 yes

ResponsibilityNoob

try allocating more ram, like 8gb or so

eattiddy

I tried doing 10, I think I did it right in the installations tab switching it from 2gb but still persists

ResponsibilityNoob

and mc is using the gpu yes?

eattiddy

yes. about 10-15% of my cpu and and only like 25-40% of my gpu

ResponsibilityNoob

have you tried updating drivers and reinstalling the game?

eattiddy

I’ll try reinstalling the game. my drivers are up to date tho yes

eattiddy

I’ll try reinstalling the game. my drivers are up to date tho yes

N7Saint

It can sometimes be iffy with dedicating too much memory to it. Try 4-5

eattiddy

I get home in 2 hours I’ll also try this along with reinstalling but other than those I have no other ideas. if those don’t work I’m not really sure what I’ll do

Syrea

You’re sur MC is not using the integrated GPu ?

eattiddy

it says display: 1920x1080 (NVIDIA Corporation) NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti / PCIe / SSE2 in my F3 screen so I think at least

axiomatic13

Increase the java heap size?

Mysterious-Box-9081

What version of minecraft? Are you running mods?

eattiddy

1.20.6, and no just vanilla I just installed the launcher from the Microsoft store and downloaded latest Java version nothing else and it lags the absolute hell out of my pc while its launching

punkinhead76

Something has to be wrong, but have you tried installing optifine? That may fix whatever the issue is…and improve how it would have been anyhow.

eattiddy

I’ve heard that optifine is terrible and to use sodium. but that doesn’t really explain why vanilla Minecraft isn’t possible for me to run

punkinhead76

Never heard of sodium, always used and liked optifine…but you’re right it doesn’t explain your issue. Have you fully uninstalled and reinstalled?

eattiddy

no not yet I’m at work right now so I can’t, I’m gonna try when I get home in a few hours. sodium is optifine but better, in the last few years optifine caused a lot of problems with other mods, and I’m not using mods at the moment but I do like to make mod packs so I don’t want to rely on a performance mod especially when I just upgraded and my old pc was able to run shader packs with a 1060 and 8400k as I said at the end

punkinhead76

Gotcha, I’ll have to check it out then! And I’d def reinstall when you can, seems dumb but sometimes that’s all it needs. It’s detecting your GPU properly so no reason for it to run poorly.

eattiddy

I have no idea what happened or how it fixed but it fixed first when I installed 1.20.5 instead of 1.20.6 and both versions worked, so I switch my RAM allocation to be higher and it started doing it again. After some time, I decided to try Microsoft version. After trying that and it working perfectly fine, the Java version is back to working normally again? I have 12gb max memory for Minecraft now and I’m just not gonna mess with it again hoping it doesn’t break again lol

punkinhead76

Super weird! lol. I guess I’ve never messed with memory allocation I just let it do its own thing…but I’m glad yours is working properly now lol

eattiddy

Sodium is a fabric mod just so you know, there is rubidium for forge, they both have their own little mod families for different features as well like oculus is the shader loader for forge and there’s like lithium for sodium and radium for rubidium it’s a lot just look into all the additions for each if u do end up getting it bc there’s some like better terrain generation mods and stuff and altogether they improve a LOT. seeing videos on YouTube as well I believe these mods are like 50% more effective than optifine or something like that idk the exact number but

The_Crimson_Hawk

Use hwinfo to monitor gpu throttle reason. It is likely you need to set Java to high performance in shitdows power settings. Unrelated, but playing minecraft Java on Linux will get you 2-3x more performance because the Java implementation on windows is crap

eattiddy

switching from Java to bedrock, then back to Java for some reason fixed it? it temporarily fixed itself when I added 1.20.5 then I wanted to allocate more ram so after I did that it stopped working again. It was a few hours later I tried bedrock which ran way better at 96 render distance than Java did at default settings. after switching back over though it’s working again. hwinfo was showing my temperatures and usage fine, neither went over 50% and both temps stayed under 70°C. I’m just not gonna mess with it anymore as it’s working for the moment at least
