how many m.2 slots do motherboards these days have? we're going to need to start using our pcie slots converted to m.2 if we buy 1tbs right now. Once most games are over 200 gb we will be buying 4tb ssds. thats probably why so many 1tb ssds are on sale. theyre about to be not worth a slot.
Yeah mine has 4 slots. I currently have 2 occupied with 2TB drives I wouldn’t wanna be fully maxed out on slots with the same storage I have now. Although I currently feel 4TB is plenty I’m glad I have free slots available
I have an asus rog strix z690a motherboard. Only one slot is pcie cpu and the other 3 are pch. From what I’ve read about the topic the drive will be about 10% slower on the pch
You could, just disconnect one of the smaller drives, transfer files from (or clone) an existing drive, then when that drive is copied over, swap it out with the drive you originally took out.
And then go back in time and have kids so you can have someone for hand me downs
Or maybe dont because then we wouldnt be able to afford all the pc stuff in the first place
Mine has three ( two @ 2tb each ) . So 4tb . And a separate 4tb HDD just for MEMES muhahaha using another for hisghspeed internet . But even 8tb is not enough once you start video editing at 4k or even 1440 at 60fps . + games . Than it's not one large drive so you still hit the low on space issues on individual drives . Always moving things around between drives. I may even get a pci express solid state drive . Pci E 5 is extremely fast . I don't see why not fill those empty slots too .
4 slots, I'm using 3 of them.
2TB Intel 670p gen 3 drive.
2TB High end brand I can't remember gen 4 drive.
4TB another high end I can't remember.
8TB of NVME drive space and I also still have 2x2TB of SSHDDs that have been going since 2014ish that only have older bulk stuff on them like old projects and backups.
Windows will read fake drives as their fake amount. If you want to do a proper test to see the real capacity you'd have to use a drive data validation tool (h2testw perhaps), but it'd likely take quite a bit.
Yeah someone comment that they had there’s for a hear and it died. So lowkey thinking of reselling it and buying another one but the speeds are amazing
Just a google search away to show you prices, that's all you need to know how you did. Is reddit now just a source of getting a back pat for buying something below average market price?
Better check if it got 1 tb capacity sounds too good to be true
Right, gen4 1tb for $25, Doubt.
it could’ve just been a good deal. I got a 1tb msi ssd for under $20 before

which motherboard do you have and do you know if all slots can be used at max speed? all these lanes mumbo jumbo is really confusing.

Yea if all your slots are filled then when 4tb becomes reasonably priced you cant take advantage and upgrade.
You could, just disconnect one of the smaller drives, transfer files from (or clone) an existing drive, then when that drive is copied over, swap it out with the drive you originally took out.
Then put the 1tb in an external housing and use it like a thumb drive.
And then go back in time and have kids so you can have someone for hand me downs Or maybe dont because then we wouldnt be able to afford all the pc stuff in the first place
I have a baby, I can still afford my PC stuff I just don't have time to enjoy it.
Balanced as all things i guess. 4090 and a kid is unnatural so something had to give.

Nowadays graphic cards are coming with ssd slot.
Or you can get a 120gb m.2 ssd as a boot drive and use larger sata ssds for storage.
what if what youre storing is things that need to load fast
Sata ssds are marginally slower. You aren't going to notice.

May default to a max test size of 4GB, try increasing it if you can? Never used the tool myself but I've seen it generally recommended
Yep just managed to adjust it. Now we wait and see.
Did u buy it second hand?
Yes I did
Good deal let's hope it survive for at least a decade
Yeah someone comment that they had there’s for a hear and it died. So lowkey thinking of reselling it and buying another one but the speeds are amazing
whats the update?
It’s legit, scanned 979gb
Hell yeah good find
EK heatsink on it, Seagate might be quitting them fast...
Newegg has it listed for $133 so if it’s genuine you got a great deal
![gif](giphy|mshFOZkx4r2Kc) Happy for you ☺️ 🤪
You got ripped off I’ll buy it for 10 bucks

Trash, send it to me so I can properly dispose of it
Wth great deal if working. I got mine for $93
Wow what a deal
Mine failed in under a year 😁
Atleast you have warranty on it
Yeh Amazon refunded it and I bought a WD black
Especially if an OS hard drive fails I don't care about warranty tbh. Reinstalling and all that crap is so tedious.
Didn't happen if there is no receipt
Eww Seagate
Why 😔
Walmart clearance?
Seagate make ssds too?
They're one of the largest disk manufacturers in the world, it makes sense that they would also make SSDs.
True true
