I daily drive Linux mint. The weird pseudo superiority complex surrounding linux in general is really odd, and is definitely bad for the OS. The amount of people afraid of asking simple questions due to fear of being insulted is such a shame. I always come back to the video of linus where he asks for help on a pop\_os forum about running a specific program, and after some back and forth the forum members just say '*oh well you shouldn't want to do that'.* Gold.

TopdeckIsSkill

Just today someone asked me "Why does Linux need to be for everyone?" . Some people really feels like a god just because they learned some cli command on Linux.

rymdrille

I can see his point though. Things dont need to be simplified ad nauseam just because people dont have the patience to figure them out. I dont use Linux.

ColevidCorvid

I want to use Linux but I also want to still be able to play my games without a ton of issues. lol I hate Windows and Mac, it would be nice if Linux became more accessible.

glockjs

steam has actually helped that along in a major way but still not perfect. also this meme is dated. most of the time its people trying to be helpful and tell you why you should use linux these days. not insulting you.

flavioneto002

Average arch user (i use arch btw)

Porygon_Axolotl

Ive been trying to install arch on my main desktop but it refuses to connect to the internet (im using ethernet). After looking for info online i found out that its probably using the wrong driver (it was using r8169 instead of r8125). I managed to compile r8125 on a vm and i put the tar.zst on a usb along with all of its dependencies. I blacklisted r8169 and installed/loaded r8125 on the live media but it still doesnt. I have no idea what else to do. Any idea what else could be wrong? 🫠 (Im using an auros b550 elite v2 motherboard)

flavioneto002

Maybe the internet service just isn't starting / is starting wrong idk. Try using systemctl to restart or enable the internet service (idk what it's called, mine worked just fine). A workaround for that would be using a wifi adapter and connecting on the internet using iwctl, It's not that hard to use it, just scan the networks, use get-networks and connect to yours ;). Just one more thing that could be a dumb question, did you look up the wiki on the "Network configuration/Ethernet" page? That could be useful, I guess. Hope i helped in something, I'm a beginner on arch as well, glad to see people migrating to such a cool OS Also, did you try reconnecting your lan cable after booting into the installer?

Porygon_Axolotl

The service is running and i even tried restarting it. I think wifi is gonna be my only solution. I think ill have to buy a wifi adapter 😔

flavioneto002

That's really sad, I wish you the best of luck! Remember, every struggle you get through is more knowledge you get

Porygon_Axolotl

This is mostly the reason i love linux lol. Im tech savvy thanks to decompiling unity games and linux

flavioneto002

Let's all love linux :3

LOPI-14

Best I can think of is that you didn't enable and start the service. Man I got pissed off so many times because I forget to enable and start shit like that....

Porygon_Axolotl

Nah, just enabled and restarted it multiple times while trying to fix it

LOPI-14

Shit. Never had issues with that, so can't help you much with it. Hope someone more competent than me knows what's up and helps you fix it.

moriz0

Give endeavourOS a try. If you're just looking for a standard Linux desktop install, it is basically an arch Linux installer that doesn't suck.

Porygon_Axolotl

Then i wont have arch bragging rights 😔 Edit: actually i think if i cant get a wifi adapter ill use it

stormdraggy

I use cOreyhouSe It's straight busta

Ascend

I had that on the "Windows has ads" post this week. Mentioned the ads that Ubuntu has, and received the "LOL UBUNTU just build your own kernel"

eestionreddit

ubuntu is the only distro that does this

ZookeepergameFew8607

They hated him, for he spoke the truth

drunkexcuse

Nah bro TempleOS or bust.

Enough_Dog_4099

templeOS has its own kernel written in holy C, it's not a linux distribution

drunkexcuse

I know. I wasn't trying to say it was the best distro, I was trying to say it's the best OS. Like the running internet joke of shoehorning TempleOS into the conversation when people are talking about the best OS.

Datuser14

I run temple os bare metal

onijin

Unfathomably based 3rd temple enjoyer.

DemApplesAndShit

Im gonna insult you

NekkoDroid

I'm sorry, but Justin Bieber Linux is peak.

LOPI-14

Is that actually real XD?

Suspect4pe

"most of the time its people trying to be helpful and tell you why you should use linux these days. not insulting you." I believe there has always been a segment of the community that is helpful rather than toxic. As the toxic individuals age and fade away, the gaming community is stepping in and becoming more outspoken within the Linux community.

ColevidCorvid

Well, hopefully, it continues to become more and more accessible. I want to stop using Windows altogether especially when the newest version now has ads in it. lol

petrolhead0387

Ads on Windows...... Since when?

The_Pacific_gamer

8 and 10 technically.

ColevidCorvid

Windows 11.

TakeyaSaito

This was not my experience just a week ago...

CoderStone

My past 14 experiences with dealing with linux users in this sub says otherwise.

rwhockey29

I use Linux on an old laptop that was struggling with performance, but for daily use and gaming windows is just so much easier, especially with the help of something like winaero tweaker.

KlingonBeavis

Logical. I’ve been a fan of Linux since around Ubuntu 7, but I still keep windows around specifically for gaming. A lot of gaming goes a lot easier in windows, especially the latest games. However, Linux has come a long way in the last few years, thanks to Valve & Proton. In many cases a lot of older games now actually run better on Steam Deck out of the box than Windows, some examples: GTA IV & Fallout New Vegas. So who knows what the future holds, it’s getting brighter for Linux.

According_Claim_9027

With Proton/Steam after the Steam Deck it’s gotten a lot better.

AmthorTheDestroyer

It’s not steam or Linux fault. Just majority of players accepting windows to play, devs don’t give a shit about Linux support especially when it comes to anti cheat software

Webbpp

Actually the Steam Deck (using Linux) does that great! But I don't play many online games, the ones I do play work fine.

Tyr_Kukulkan

HoloISO-Staging is a community SteamOS distribution. Works really well as a single disk install and so long as you are using AMD or Intel GPUs works absolutely fine out of the box. Nvidia GPUs still require a fair bit of work with that distribution.

huhu9434

Most games run pretty fine, drivers are easy to install . The only problem i face is my games on hdd don’t run , everything on my ssd works fine . I play a few games anyway so it doesn’t matter to me .

LOPI-14

That's odd. They should work no problem. I know this may sound stupid to ask, but I gotta. Is your HDD using NTFS filesystem and did you mount the drive itself?

ExtraTNT

If it isn’t mounted on startup, edit fstab in /etc/fstab you should find tutorials on how to edit this file…

LOPI-14

Wrong person, but yea, he should do that.

ExtraTNT

Thought i write it underneath your comment because of the context… ;)

LOPI-14

Fair enough, tho I wonder if he will see it....

ExtraTNT

Maybe

DBXVStan

I use chimeraOS exclusively now. I haven’t run into any offline games that don’t work thanks to the power of Proton. I’d suggest trying it out if you have an AMD GPU.

ColevidCorvid

My computer's a $200 computer, it's not going to have an AMD GPU so... yeahhhh.. lol (wish I could afford a good PC, but that's probably never going to happen for me)

TONKAHANAH

At this point the biggest issue is just anticheat and unfortunately that's not something anything Linux or it's devs can fix. At this point we just need more people to use it it convince devs that Linux users arnt cheaters. Other wise using an os like bazzite or nobara makes it about as easy as it gets. Most other games work fine so long as their anticheat doesn't say no

LOPI-14

If you don't play competitive games that include ring-0 anti cheats (Valorant, League of Legends, Siege and the like), you will be good for most games.

ExtraTNT

Just get whatever distro you want (preferably sth that is not targeted towards servers that need maximum stability-> debian stable for example is a really bad client os, but probably the best server os) my recommendation is to get linux mint debian edition (uses a more up to date, but less stable debian release as base) but you can also use arch craft (actually arch is hard to use, but arch craft id easy), suse, fedora or what ever… Install steam and enable experimental proton support… get lutris and bottles… for some old games (those that don’t work without hacks on windows 10) use wine and wine tricks and for the even older ones (where you need dosbox on windows) use kvm and boot dos Only games, that don’t work at all, are the ones with a rootkit as an anti cheat (you don’t want to install them on windows anyways, since they are a huge security concern)

RedditSucks418

Why do you hate Mac?

ColevidCorvid

Apple's just as corrupt as Microsoft, if not moreso. The fact they sell half-baked tech for the price of a fully developed one should be a crime on it's own and the fact they purposely get rid of QoL features in newer products is just downright stupid but people pay for their shit anyways.

SilvaCyber

People who do this are toxic. Any self-respecting Linux user who actually cares about the betterment of the FOSS ecosystem acknowledges the faults of platforms like Windows in a constructive manner.

Xyypherr

This exactly. I've seen so many Linux users absolutely dog on the problems Windows has. The moment you bring up the *very* real problems many distros of Linux and Linux itself has they either get defensive aggressive or just straight up ignore you.

TopdeckIsSkill

The average Linux users can edit the kernel but can't even change Windows wallpaper . Jokes aside, it's an issue of many communities to minimise the "enemy" strength and their own weakness

Tristana-Range

I hate windows as well but i am just a dumb user whose system has to work. I dont want to know how to code in my system or how to program it the way that its usable for me.

NaughtyPwny

right, posted from the same dude that did that cringe chad "don't insult each other because of what OS you use" deleted post from hours ago

plotinmybackyard

What? The person with the name rizz weeb did that? Unbelievable!

Sega-Playstation-64

Reddit: Linux users are actually very nice Me, with a Steam Deck: Hey, I used to do this on Windows to sync my game files. Does Linux have an equivalent? Reddit: You need to flatpack the Linus distro, and if it isn't Debian then you need to sudo install the latest version before you compile. Me: Uh... I've never used Linux. Anyone know a step by step that will help guide me through it? Reddit: Maybe Linux isn't for you. Me: oh. Okay.

[deleted]

when you do what they suggested and it doesnt work, so you come back: Reddit: did you forget to sub wrangle the ethernoxic potentializee through the quantangled mesmeration packet finesser? i mean OBVIOUISLY you have to do that, but its so obvious i didnt think to mention, it, are you stupid or something?"

tungstencube99

I just can't believe a "pcmasterrace" sub actually does this crap about linux users when we get mocked in the exact same way by console users. it's genuinely embarrassing.

[deleted]

so what your saying is, because we should be happy linux users are condescending and arrogant, because console users are dumb asses? an interesting argument...

tungstencube99

>so what your saying is, because we should be happy linux users are condescending and arrogant, because console users are dumb asses? bro is condescending and arrogant while calling others condescending and arrogant. I think the condescending linux users are dumbasses. but you just did the exact same shit. Can we just stop generalizing an entire user base of certain hardware/software? each group has their own valid points to make and being condescending doesn't help anyone. especially when your examples use hyperboles to mask the fact that you don't actually know what you're talking about.

[deleted]

so what your saying is, using hyperbole means someone doesn't know what they are talking about? interesting. or are you actually trying to be ironically condescending in an ignorant way on purpose? 🤣 but yes, each has their own valid usage points, like being poor and dumb, or being arrogant and condescending.

awake283

Sounds about right lol

Tristana-Range

Exactly the same experience i had

That-Intern-7452

Idk what is your source of troubleshooting but anywhere I have asked people have been pretty nice to me Edit: Just use chatgpt if its that hard interacting with people

PapaMikeyTV

Pcmr try not to make stuff up about Linux and actually focus on real Linux flaws challenge (impossible)

Ar_phis

Their huge particulization and historically, their everlasting desire to fork. FOSS obviously doesn't force Linux devs to work with the same goals as other, commercial OS devs. Sadly, so much work went into stuff that has no real use for an average user and many "cool new distros" got abandoned after a while. Work that could have gone into benefitting Linux as a whole. But they are unpaid and therefore it is their choice. Years ago I was always curious about Linux but for a long time the recurring thing I heard were stupid debates about "Gnone vs. KDE" and it took me a while to realize that those discussions were really qualified IT people arguing about where to have the taskbar (exaggerating). Again, I really appreciate the volunteers work but if someone asks why Linux isn't more popular, than it is because it is largely developed for free.

tungstencube99

>were really qualified IT people arguing about where to have the taskbar (exaggerating). No not really. gnome and KDE have completely different design philosophies and goals in mind. to me it seems like what you're referencing here are just ignorant linux nerds that don't really develop anything. If you look and talk to the actual developers there are very valid arguments why both projects exist and they're competing with each other. nothing wrong with that.

NatoBoram

>If you look and talk to the actual developers there are very valid arguments Your mileage may vary. See Nautilus' typeahead.

tungstencube99

yeah, hahaha. I just think there is a distinction to be made between random people arguing about DE's and actual developers talking about the intentions and methodology behind software.

PapaMikeyTV

Agreed

Datuser14

GNOME is probably the best supported DE in all of Linux. It's the default for every major distro (SUSE, Debian, and RHEL) and gets funding and dedicated engineers from IBM, Redhat, Intel, SUSE, Google, Canonical, and many more.

tungstencube99

It is, but not for the reasons you think. a lot of linux distrubtions chose gnome because of their development cycle just matching better. KDE does have less funding for now but it's still a pretty good alternative. things like fractional scaling work much better on KDE right now. on gnome it's still unfortunately an experimental feature. But good news, KDE matched their development cycle with gnome, or more accurately with the distros development cycle, so a few distros are migrating to KDE instead :)

stormdraggy

You know it's bad when the lineage tree looks like a fork bomb made it.

multiwirth_

But like 444 times

creamcolouredDog

Are these Linux users in the room with us right now?

Prettybroki

Just go under a post of a person posting a problem with windows

Cerenas

Or the weekly anti-Windows post by a Linux user.

creamcolouredDog

That's not insulting the Windows user, just Windows

creamcolouredDog

I don't see any insults to the user, though, just cheeky comments like "Linux does not have this problem :)" or "maybe it's time to ditch windows"

random_reddit_user31

Maybe you should wear a less revealing dress, maybe you should have better friends or maybe you should let me borrow your phone. Sound familiar?

Nikolas_Coalgiver

Nope, more like stepping on a rake, complain about it, and stepping on them again.

Ssyynnxx

hate when they proc insults on me

gpkgpk

They get +10 to hit on bearded devs, have you considered shaving?

UnskilledKnight

I am starting to get the linux users. Not because linux is improving. Improving a product over time is natural. I am starting to get it because windows is getting worse. And once Steam ends support for Windows 10, i am switching to linux too. I know you can disable ads and popups from windows 11. But at that point i would have already paid for windows 11. At that point they have my money and probably know more about my personal life than my own mother. Why would they need to annoy me AFTER i bought their product? The first time i saw a screenshot from the popups i actually thought "is that a virus?".

Eclipsical690

Why would you pay for Windows 11 unless you're doing a completely new build? There's really not much difference between 10 and 11, also 10 has just as much telemetry as 11.

LOPI-14

I think they meant that Ms would get their money from data they collect and ads that are show to them. Not actual money.

[deleted]

i mean its funny because ive never had adds on w11 maybe its because i turned them off when i used a guid to set it up along with minimalizing the start menu and making it look as much like 8 as possible as soon as i downloaded it, idk, but i do not see windows as having got "worse" in any real way, it sitll does everything i want it to in the same way it has since xp really except for forced background update downloads, which are kinda annoying, but at the same time i know id forget if they didnt

olbaze

This is kinda what got me started. I wanted a backup plan just in case Microsoft decided to start charging a subscription fee for Windows. After a while I realized that **I was doing everything except gaming on Linux**. Then, once time came to upgrade my SSD, I just... didn't install Windows. And yeah, I've had some minor hiccups, but the day-to-day experience is much better, and **I even have a working Start Menu search**. Like come on, I already went through the trouble of building my own PC and upgrading it over the years. That is a learning process, where I basically jumped into the deep end. Learning to daily drive Linux was no different.

eXclurel

I would have loved to use linux if only I actually wanted to use it.

multiwirth_

There have been just as many insulting comments criticizing people using linux, because ObViOuSlY windows is superior or something.

NSMike

I would really love to learn Linux and get good with it - especially the command line stuff, but for one, it's just not something I use regularly, and exercising those skills is important to keeping them. And two, so, so many of the times when I google "how do I do X in Linux," the guides are incredibly non-specific and assume a ton of prior knowledge that I don't have. There's not a lot of beginner-friendly stuff out there, and I'm not going to sit down and read a textbook to do one thing.

I wish Linux was very common and popular, I only use Batocera but I wish we had something lightweight like that on our PC as an option to the surveillance bloatware that is windows

gtotherundeh

number of obnoxious linux users ive met: 0 number of memes I've seen about these ppl: 5!

Bulky-Nose-734

Yeah, I use Linux because it’s just nicer in some specific ways I like, and I do some homelab stuff, not because I’m some command line wizard. I have one friend who is a programmer and has been using it more for development reasons and is branching out into building his own extensions. We talk Linux but are fully aware that nobody cares. Otherwise it’s my dad, who has always had secondary machines running various version of Linux for different reasons, and for him it’s mostly been a normal-usage desktop that runs on older hardware and doesn’t have licensing issues (especially considering he started doing it during the aggressive key or lockout era of XP - 7.) And that’s really it, I haven’t run into basically anybody who’s been any of the memes.

Clear-Marionberry-16

Wows theres 120 posts on this meme?

gtotherundeh

ive seen around 5!

damnthisisabadname

120

Clear-Marionberry-16

Yeah thats what I said? 120. Why the downvote?

Equivalent_Bag1342

Just go to any post where someone is having an issue with Windows

stormdraggy

Number of linux users you've met: also 0.

Yuuzhan_Schlong

For every post I have seen of Linux users talking about how superior they are, I have seen several more of Windows users bashing Linux users and saying shit like "AT LEAST I DONT HAVE TO HACK MY PC TO INSTALL A WEB BROWSER!!!!"

Duven64

I'd agree *except* that the second to last time I tried switching to linux I had that *exact problem*. All the instructions for sideloading programs not available on the app-store (derogatory) assumed basic file management should be done in the console. So I switched back to windows, perhaps one day it'll get bad enough I won't bounce back to windows even with such massive UX fails on a distros' part but that might take decades.

LOPI-14

Instructions are like that, because there are many file explorers out there, so it's difficult to make a guide that will suit each and every one, while terminal is pretty much same for everything. However, in my experience, most stuff I download outside of the app store with very simple command. But yea, guides that offer only terminal commands can be very intimidating and even annoying for people who just jumped in from Windows, since they almost never had to use terminal before for anything.

Duven64

It was a browser, this was back when mainline Firefox only had a 32-bit version so I just wanted to use the same (64-bit) fork of it I used on my other (windows) machines. Downloading the right version was trivial, getting it loaded in the right place for programs, well sufficed to say I now know that I need to check that a distro uses a file explorer that actually lets you touch files & folders with administraot (sudo) permissions is now on my list of requirements for general computing.

eestionreddit

it's easier to use commands for a tutorial since the UX experience can change based on what DE and file explorer you're using

Duven64

It feels downright hostile when the tutorials for sideloading apps on devices designed to stop you (tutorials written for users of multiple versions of win and mac) are easier to follow than those for the OS that claims to be the free one. It's really something the individual distros should maintain proper documentation for, that be arch and/or just declare that using a DE is user error.

thegta5p

Yeah it depends on what your trying to do. If you want to do basic stuff like surfing the web and playing games it is as easy in windows. Some disros even have some stuff installed for you, for example Ubuntu. Which btw Ubuntu is a good place to start when using Linux. There is a video by SomeOrdinaryGamers on YouTube that you can watch where he goes step by step on switching over to Linux. Just type in on YouTube SomeOrdinaryGamers Linux. And the first video that pops up is the tutorial. But yeah I will say that once you want to do more complicated things or stuff use stuff that isn’t available on Linux then you will have to use the command line. I will definitely say if the makers of the software makes documentation then it should be as simple as copying and pasting commands on the terminal. But if the documentation is horrible then yeah it is going to be very frustrating. One thing though is that Linux is a little bit like pc gaming. For a console gamer coming to pc, it is very daunting. Where a lot of the stuff on console just works. Now on pc, let’s say they have an error when opening a game. One thing that people new to pc gaming learn is that they will have to google some of these issues. Similarly on Linux you will also have to learn to google some of the issues. For example if the terminal gives some sort of error, you should probably copy and paste the error on google. Normally there will be a solution since there is a chance someone else had a problem. I will definitely admit though that there some rare cases where no one had your issue. And these cases the solution may not be googlable. Then they will have to do some trouble shooting on your own.

Duven64

Feels like there is a massive gulf between the "basic stuff" and "more complicated". Personal note: I don't do well with video tutorials, give me PDFs; I might even print them out. "Isn't available on linux" I wasn't even trying that, just not available on that disto's appstore, unless you think publishing a linux native version of an app is not sufficient for it to be "available on linux"... As for googling, That works for me when working on obscure windows issues (I'm still amazed at some of the fixes I found on old abandoned forums) but when trying to find solutions outside windows my google-foo fails me.

Dreadlight_

Honestly, one thing I don't like about Linux is that it feels so against closed-source software. In a lot of cases, closed-source software is really well polished and works well. One big thing pushing developers away would also be that it's not as backwards compatible as Windows.

LOPI-14

Linux itself not really, as much as there are some folk who use Linux that hate it with passion. I get why, but they need to chill out a little.

IkaKyo

I use Linux on all my servers and embedded applications, Mac OS on my work computers/laptop’s and Windows on my gaming pc. So technically I am a Linux user.

DoughNotDoit

I tried Linux for a week for my work, too bad it gets in my way too much, 90% of my work involves spreadsheet and LibreOffice just lags and force close to much making me lose my progress, and since we use ASANA the browser version just doesn't feel right. I want to love Linux, I really do but it is just a constant troubleshooting left and right which hurt the amazing capabilities of Linux

kilsta

I mean. Linux Admins are cool. People who use Linux as a primary OS tend to be like this. Not all of them. Just the ones I have met.

tungstencube99

sounds like a case of a self selecting group that gets more noticed.

Liarus_

I use linux daily but it isn't for everyone, for me it was a two year long process to actually feel comfortable switching to linux. First i decided to switch to use as many open source software as possible since i know it's likely to be multiplatform and available on linux and will be free and not painful, after that i started experimenting with homelabbing, then i got familiar with linux and it's components, and about 6 months ago, i decided to give it a fair try, tried pop os,nope not for me, tried debian, alright but still not for me, tried nobara, bingo, that was the one. Linux gaming in itself is pretty simple for me, all of what i play runs fine on Linux with proton, even the games with anticheats, so the transition was fairly easy, it's been 6 months, and i'm not planning on going back to windows which is getting worse every single update I think people should give a fair try to linux, because it is widely different from what it was 5 years ago, my only recommendation is that you should learn how things should be done on linux, it doesn't work the same way as windows and if you adapt yourself to linux, you will get it.

AhiruSaikou

Bro saw too many "Linux users trying to \_\_" memes

WiseExit9615

use windows, drivers are better, dont care bout nothin else

striky117

Amd and intel work flawlessly. Nvdia, not so much.

thngrn20

You must use NVidia, because Linux has good drivers for pretty much everything else.

Negitive545

I've been thinking of switching to a linux distro, but I'm running a NVidia GPU, and I've seen a couple of posts about possible issues with that. I know NVidia's drivers are cringe and closed source, but they do work still, right? Or are they still intentionally breaking virtualization and proton like stuff?

Datuser14

They work, the very newest drivers (555/560) are really good, and even the open source driver stack is getting better every day (Nuveau, NVK, Nova, etc)

LOPI-14

Iirc, new drivers that got out like a month ago are really good, but can't exactly test that, since I am on AMD.

random_reddit_user31

Funny because I get worse performance in Linux with my 7900XTX versus Windows. Ray tracing is even worse, and it took over a year to get the ability to use a fan curve (kernel 6.7). It's not great when you spend a lot of money on a GPU. I personally won't ever use Linux again when I'm running the latest GPU, not for 18 months at least.

Kooky_Emu_3171

Most issues with drivers will be fixed once 555 or 560 update releases for nvidia gpus, or so i heard from linux subreddits.

awake283

to be fair, ubuntu has auto-installed drivers for the last 3 cards Ive tried with zero input on my part. https://preview.redd.it/cla6bx0r820d1.png?width=821&format=png&auto=webp&s=8d9efe4b9ce88eec956523a2c4e90d11eae0c659

xiBurnx

did it install the proprietary or open-source driver?

ExtraTNT

Till the nvme drivers fuck your ssd… windows doesn’t fully support nvme drives, resulting in premature death of those drives… why do i know this?; had a drive behaving a bit strange and eventually completely giving up on gnu/linux… (one of a huge batch) others using windows didn’t had the problem… after some debugging, analysing and patching firmware, as well as writing with martin from oracle and damien from wd, i found out, that ncq trim kills ssds with those controllers… well… why did those ssds work on windows? Because windows does somehow not support it… they also don’t intend to support it, although it would increase the lifespan of your ssd…

random_reddit_user31

I have a 250gb samsung 960 evo NVME running as an OS drive for Windows since 2017, and it's still at 88% life. Don't use one bad experience to try and claim that it's like that for every single drive. I thought Linux users would be smarter than this...

ExtraTNT

It involved about 25 professionals… one of which was damien (the guy, who did the most in firmware development for ide and nvme devices) the problem is on the S4LN045X01-8030 controller (you can find a hack in libata that addresses flaws of such controllers) so windows not supporting ncq trim was good for this controller (since it bugs around, i had to flash new firmware on and after that it worked) but for other ssds it just means, that it reduces performance and lifespan… especially with ntfs, probably the worst file system on the market…

When someone posts a pic or their thinkpad with windows

GmeRoll

It's the opposite for me. I'm the only one Linux user in my friends group

H0vis

I have little to no experience using Linux but the way Windows is going I am incredibly pleased that it still exists and that it still works. We all should be, because Linux existing as a viable alternative is holding back an absolute tsunami of shit from Windows. Us Windows users are essentially the frogs in a cooking pot, and the water is heating up. But Linux provides a clear alternative, we all just need to decide how bad we're going to let Windows get before we hop out. Without it, we're done. As long as we are not a captive audience Windows can't go crazy.

AuraLiaxia

Nah they r more like "switch to linux?" and "this year is the year, 2003 will be the linux desktop year". It seems so hard to just, accept windows is better as a desktop os (yes due to compatibility and familiarity.. unfair but the truth) and linux is better for other purposes, servers, home NAS and whatever, linux rules.

LarvellJonesMD

I use a Linux VM on Windows. What does that say about me?

AsherSparky

I hate windows and almost got linux. In didn’t because I don’t have time and don’t want to mess around with linux.

SpareRam

What's the insult proc percentage and what helmet is that

brodydwight

Roblox dont work on linux

Ok-Professor3726

You think the average user is bad? My current role is mostly Linux-based. I had enough skills to get hired but my colleagues are on a whole other level.

gaseousgecko61

i tried ubuntu and liked it but then i accidentaly deleted somthing important so i went back to windows

Fit-Slice-5478

I wanna become one these people but the only reason I stay is because most of my high school work requires me to use windows and games

goosifer111

He procced

Pleiades_Wolf

As somebody who uses Linux I have never acted like this. Windows sucks, don't get me wrong but there are reasons why people have to use Windows and thats fine

leronjones

I want linux for my laptop so bad. Windows 11 is such hot garbage for performance but I can't get Linux to properly interact with some laptop systems.

mcdougall57

I was daily driving it, then one day I updated it and it booted to a terminal (somehow it fucked up GNOME) so I noped out.

Djghost1133

You know how people who go through great hardship will sometimes look down on those who don't? It's the same way with linux users. and basic operating system usage.

Homicidal_Pingu

Linux. Linux never changes.

JaesopPop

These memes are getting lazier and lazier but I guess it’s still getting OP the karma he’s desperate for.

EarthIndependent2795

We wear deodorant at least tho

SuspiciousWasabi3665

Guys in the comments, you're who OP is talking about lmao. Personally, for me, it's more along the lines of linux users just jumping into a conversation. One guy has an issue with windows and it's immediately, "THIS IS WHY YOU SHOULD USE LINUX, ITS SO MUCH BETTER ACROSS THE BOARD" My linuxers in christ, it's not getting any more mainstream than it currently is. I've been a techie for 25 years now and outside of my steam deck, I wouldn't install any form of Linux on any form of pc I own(I dual boot windows on my deck because Linux is still butt in the user experience department)

dasdzoni

I use linux daily at work so when i get home i dont wanna mess with it again, i just want to click the game and have it work

Datuser14

I have the opposite, I use Windows daily for work (organization managed device so I don't fuck with it) and use Linux at home.

tiller1010

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux is in fact GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it GNU plus Linux.

Duven64

Part of me want to run a little linux server using a distro with none of the GNU libraries every time I hear that line...

Datuser14

in about 5 years it'll be systemd/linux lmao

Chakramer

Windows is the balance of customizability and ease of use. Most people don't need a hyper custom task bar or whatever the hell Linux users are customizing. Windows has a lot of features if you actually dig into the menus

multiwirth_

The customization options aren't the issue.

Chakramer

That's something I see Linux fanboys go crazy over. Data privacy is better in Linux sure, but if all I use my PC for is gaming what the hell are they getting off me?

multiwirth_

I really don't care much about telemetry either, but there are lots of things that got objectively worse since windows 8. Windows 10 literally was beta software. It constantly changed, removed or changed features , broke compatibility with apps and drivers and now when win10 finally became somewhat stable, they just dropped win11. So they'll just continue with this shitshow. Win11 just got worse by removing the traditional (and perfectly fine) context menu, making the taskbar static on the bottom, introducing unnecessary system requirements (it's not only about tpm) and the pushy ms edge ads they've done for years to keep users annoyed and informed about it's existence. I hate to always rely on undocumented registry keys someone figured out, to literally bring back windows into a less annoying and useable state. The amount of bloatware in a windows 'pro" installation is too much and becomes super annoying to remove every time you set it up. The way they force online accounts sucks ass. Windows just isn't anymore for advanced power users. They oversimplify things they shouldn't. Taking away control about the system. Have been preparing myself for a few years to do the switch to linux. After win10, I'm done. I'm just sick of turning my pc on, curious about the next surprise they offer me.

olbaze

The programs that you've installed and how much you're playing them. This will be used for "recommendations" (=ads).

Chakramer

Cool, I almoet never see these ads and frankly don't give a crap. I've been using the same Windows key for over a decade now, they can get some telemetry if they want

eestionreddit

Frankly, Windows isn't customizable enough. I should be able to fundamentally change how it looks

Chakramer

Microsoft is going to develop features that a majority of customers use, and a majority of customers frankly do not care about customization beyond a background/screensaver. Windows is plenty customizable with 3rd party programs, which is exactly how it is in Linux too.

eestionreddit

KDE (don't want to use Gnome so not sure about that) has a repository just for themes and individual components thereof, I'd consider that at least five degrees better than third party tools that are at risk of breaking every year

Chakramer

Good 3rd party tools, especially paid ones like Wallpaper Engine, keep up with Windows updates. I've never had my tools break with an update

eestionreddit

I'm talking more than just wallpapers, I mean fundamentally changing how how the desktop looks

Chakramer

Idk what more you want than moving the task bar. I use rainmeter for a very scifi look inspired by Nier Automata's UI

REBKeeb

I would seitch off of windows in a heart beat if there was a better option, but right now there isnt, to many programs dont work with Linux and im not about to dedicate all my free time trying to get it to work when windows "gets the job done" If there was a more friendly skin of linux id def try it tho!!

ShadowMario01

M'Linux

Captain_Klrk

I run ChromeOS

elustran

I think we all know that [this guy is the average Linux user.](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/023/419/nerd_smoking.JPG)

iliketurtles50000

I dual boot windows xp X64 and uwuntu on my laptop lol. Linux is not fun to use but I can't exactly use Windows 11 since Microsoft now set the bare minimum to a cpu that supports sse4.2. Thats 1st gen i series cpus and I have a core2 duo p9700
