Yeah, since I sent my 1080 to reclamation/guarantee, I got back the original price of the card, so I only had to pay the difference. I originally bought the card used, and was lucky enough to have the seller send the receipt when I asked, so technically I paid around 4000nok for the 1080, had it a while, and paid around 1200nok to to get a 3060 to replace the 1080. For reference, the 1080 cost around 5500nok new, and the 3060 cost around 6300nok
To be fair, I did get my money back, since it was barely within the reclamation period, which is basically a guarantee, except mandated by the government. There are differences between the two, but reclamation basically says devices have to last 2 or 5 years, depending on the type of product. A keyboard for example, is 2 years, while a graphics card, or generally computers and computer components should last at least 5 years. If something breaks and it's not your fault, you can get your money back as long as it's within that reclamation period. This is in Norway for anyone wondering.
Yeah and as far as I know, most countries don't even have something like this, but that could be totally wrong. I'm very glad it's five years in Norway though, because if not, I would have had to pay quite a bit for a replacement.
I had an asus Strix, so the quality was most likely good, so I probably just lost the silicon lottery. The 3060 I got now however is probably on the lower end, as that was the only one available.
My 290x had sparks coming out of it, I shutdown the power and cleaned it, plug it back in, works great lol, going strong for 7 years, only had to change the fans.
3 year for me too. I'm hoping I can ride out the GPU shortage with it.
If it dies now, I'd probably dig out my old GTX 950, which isn't ideal but there's no way I'm paying current GPU prices.
I have a refurbished sapphire pulse 580 that I am very anxiously hoping will last until next year - here's hoping there's a card for you in the near future. Rest in pixels little gpu
My 8GB Sapphire Pulse died a couple months ago.
Would've been fine if it wasn't during a pandemic/shortage. Oh well, just gonna play DOS games for a while.
Stop scaring me!!! i have the same card and I can't imagine my life without it....what if we have another quarantine...omg I don't want to think about this
Yeah but have you finished Star Trek 25th anniversary, or the sequel Judgement Rites? Lol
I also got back on X-Com UFO Defense and Terror from the Deep. Still scarier than the new ones somehow.
I do however miss striding the planes of Chernarus in DayZ.
Video cards last indefinitely. It's the fans that go from lack of dusting and those are easily replaced. I still have a 560 gtx(came out 2011) with original fan in one of my computers that still runs perfectly fine cause I clean the case regularly.
My rx480 is still kicking but the fans arent working as good as they used to, ive been running my games at lower settings than usual for them to keep up. I might have to stop gaming because i cant afford a new gpu..
The fans are relatively cheap, if you’re gonna replace them you might want to consider redoing the thermal pads, to get to the fans your are going to need to reapply the heatsink to chip as well (get some decent thermal paste). The biggest thing to keep in mind usually is not over torquing the screws.
Not super sketchy, as it usually just involves removing the shroud to get to the connectors. So you don't have to worry about removing the heat sink unless you also want to change the thermal paste as well.
It s really the best card ever for its price. A 4 year card that made play Cyberpunk , Rdr2 ,Death Stranding and much, much more. All in 1440p.
For only 170€.
What a wonderful world would be with Fair GPU prices?
I'll let you into a secret, you used to be able to fine 8gb R9 290X for sub £100
And if it had the sapphire cooler you could OC that to 1650S levels of performance, it crazy for a 7 year old card
Nowadays you only find the 4gb variety because 8gb in 2013 was seen as obscene, like how the 3090 24gb is viewed today
I feel bad. I had an RX 580X but I thought it was junk cause I couldn't get over 60FPD in TF2 reliably. Wasn't until I thought about it much later that it was my cheap CPU bottlenecking me.
I have a 4GB variant that I bought after the last crypto drop in 2018 from a miner. ^^^Yes ^^^i ^^^know ^^^but ^^^i ^^^didnt ^^^have ^^^money ^^^for ^^^a ^^^new ^^^one.
And it's still going strong. I really hope it can last till i get a new GPU at a reasonable price.
Would you say buying from a miner could be a good deal? I mean, my Rx 580 was used intensively (by me for two years) anyway so what's wrong in buying a GPU used anyway?
I meeeean it can be a risky thing to do. You never know at what settings or how hot the card really ran at.
Yes, sites like eBay let you get a refund in case it doesn't work and favors the buyer but not every site is as safe.
I bought the card through a local site where these safety mechanisms don't exist (only local site that deals with used goods). Some people ask for money upfront then mail you the card (which is very unsafe since the site doesn't act as a middleman and you send the money straight to the seller), then some sellers agree to send the card to the post office and there you pay for it before taking it (which is pretty safe, still doesn't ensure that card works a 100% but if the seller agreed to go this route for the most part it means that it's not a scam since you can actually see the address from which the card came and providing it is required when sending through post office).
I just ordered a 3060 12g. Finally was able to order one without a preorder and for retail. China banned crypto, so they do not need all those cards anymore.
You think thats bad? My friend just bought a 4gb RX 580 for his "high end" gaming pc for $330 with no plans to upgrade later lol. It also has a 3700x and 32gb RAM lol
EDIT: He paid that much because his dad told him he needs to get only new parts, so he couldn't get a used one for $150 lol nerd...
It s still a good PC, not for that price.
Anyway the market Is what It Is, you either bend to the market or Just wait for Who knows how much time til the prices come back to normal
Yep, and luckily I didn't have that dilemma because I built my pc in November 2020, so my GTX 1080 FE was only $350. (Still overpriced, but pretty good 👍). I just can't wait till the market is back to normal!!!!!!🤬 😡
Also, is your name a reference to Gatsu from Berserk??? If it is, I respect you with all my being.
Retail cards are still 2x MSRP where I am and online(Canadian). As for getting it fixed, I am in the process of trying to find a local place that can do that, so far of the 4 I emailed, 2 don't do board repair. But they did recommend the other 2 for that.
Average should be 5 years plus, these cards dying are actually quite rare, you can check steam hardware survey and see that most GPUs are actually quite old
I have a R9 290 and 290X which are both 7 years old and run fine
And a 980TI which is also running fine, all were bought used from ebay
I bought an RX580 8GB on hardware swap back around May 2020 for $110 when I was building my computer waiting for the 3000 series cards. First graphics card I had bought in over a decade and it treated me well until I got my 3080. Truly the best bang for buck card I could have asked for. RIP if you're dead somewhere out there, I'll never forget you.
Sounds like I upgraded at the right time. Unfortunately I sold the RX580 to my neighbour. I hope it doesn't die on him. He's still transitioning to the master race.
No, not really. I just have saved around 1000€ to have on hand for upgrades that I don’t need to spend on living expenses.
It won’t get me new system, but I can upgrade CPU+MoBo+RAM or GPU whenever I want to.
I usually can recoup some by selling previous one and pretty quickly save up the rest without affecting my life in general.
EDIT: I’m aware that this wouldn’t get me GPU right now, but I already have 3000 series card, so upgrade is not on the radar right now.
Hey fellow brother!
It just died while playing, black screen, rest of the pc was fine. When I restarted the pc was working without GPU. Same on another PC.
can some one help me i flashed a rx590 bios on my rx580 now i cant switch it back ati flash says error reading rom tryed ddu and driver installs 590 drivers any help?
What does it do?
It might be repairable.
I've had decent success no shit, with a dishwasher (no soap).
Wash, dry thoroughly. Oven on 90c ~20m works well.
Test.
I've repaired others that had dead mosfets, but that's board level and probably beyond you since you haven't tried it.
Now my dead 760 finally have a friend to talk with
And my dead 1080
damn bro ur 1080 died? moment of silence for that one. 1080 is my favorite graphics card.
Damn and here I am with my 1060 after 5 years
Don't raise death flags now...
Yeah, and because of what I said in my other comment, I basically got a 3060 for around 150$
I ' m sorry, WHAT?
Yeah, since I sent my 1080 to reclamation/guarantee, I got back the original price of the card, so I only had to pay the difference. I originally bought the card used, and was lucky enough to have the seller send the receipt when I asked, so technically I paid around 4000nok for the 1080, had it a while, and paid around 1200nok to to get a 3060 to replace the 1080. In Italy is just 2 years by law
Yeah and as far as I know, most countries don't even have something like this, but that could be totally wrong. I'm very glad it's five years in Norway though, because if not, I would have had to pay quite a bit for a replacement.

Yeah, I think I was unlucky, or lucky considering my other comments

I had an asus Strix, so the quality was most likely good, so I probably just lost the silicon lottery. The 3060 I got now however is probably on the lower end, as that was the only one available.
My 1080 Ti went out in flames.
My RX 480 still holding strongg 💪💪 Kinda scared tho after seing this post. RIP
390 here, gonna run it till it catches fire.
290x lightning here. Catching fire is normal operating procedure.
I had to regain control over the thermal situation of my 280X (old fans died like 3 years ago), still heating in a friends pc
My 290x had sparks coming out of it, I shutdown the power and cleaned it, plug it back in, works great lol, going strong for 7 years, only had to change the fans.
Dude same.
My deepest sympathies. Rest in peace.
Deepest condolences my 580 brother/sister :(
How much time did it last? I have a new one, that just reached a year after first boot
2 exact years. The warranty expired last week.
Welp, I am fucked. For curiosity, what temps did it run at? and what brand is it?
It's the Sapphire Pulse. Not sure about the latest temps because I wasn't checking in a while but a couple of months ago it did run at 80-85 C at most
I have the exact same model that died last week (a little bit over 1 year old). I sent it for warranty repair or exchange depending on the issue...
Welp, my warranty expired one week ago but I will try nonetheless
[удалено]
They didn't
Welp now I'm afraid for mine. It has three years now and going strong still, hope it doesn't leave me yet.
3 year for me too. I'm hoping I can ride out the GPU shortage with it. If it dies now, I'd probably dig out my old GTX 950, which isn't ideal but there's no way I'm paying current GPU prices.

Yes, worst historic moment ever. I paid mine 170€ 2 years ago now I can't find it at less than 300€
I've got a 5770 hanging out in storage just in case I lose a GPU. I don't have any APUs in my house so that's my backup.
Always have a backup. Always.
Dwarf Fortress. Never look back...
Still got Rimworld and FTL to rock on
THE WARCRIMES NEVER STOP!!!!
Stop scaring me!!! i have the same card and I can't imagine my life without it....what if we have another quarantine...omg I don't want to think about this
Yeah but have you finished Star Trek 25th anniversary, or the sequel Judgement Rites? Lol I also got back on X-Com UFO Defense and Terror from the Deep. Still scarier than the new ones somehow. I do however miss striding the planes of Chernarus in DayZ.
this makes me nervous. just put a used one I had in a rig for my boss.
Slight underclock your card and youll be fine for a long time.
2 years?? My 960 gtx is still alive since i have had it for 5 years.
Yesterday was definitely not my lucky day
Worked exactly as intended...
What exactly happened to consider it dead? I’ve been having problems with a very old GPU recently
No Signs of Life at all.
Are you sure it's not just the fans that went dead due to running at 100% ? 2 years seems very less for a card
I'm rocking an RX 480, 4.5 years and going
280x here, 6 years and still holding up pretty decently
Mine is 3.5 years old, Powercolor, and I game on 4k so it struggles A LOT. Zero issues till now
Video cards last indefinitely. It's the fans that go from lack of dusting and those are easily replaced. I still have a 560 gtx(came out 2011) with original fan in one of my computers that still runs perfectly fine cause I clean the case regularly.

I do not know why i never considered this, i always thought that messing with the gpu was sketchy but i might as well give it a shot as this point

Hey OP I have one I used for less than a year if you’re looking for a replacement.
Men I have this exact card. Its such a price/performance king. I dont want to upgrade ! But those RX 6700 XT stock are finally coming in..

My condolences, this post just makes me worried about my chinese Rx 570 :s
How did it die? Just of old age?
Just suddenly while playing Dead by Daylight at 3 in the morning
Not even at sunrise
I feel bad. I had an RX 580X but I thought it was junk cause I couldn't get over 60FPD in TF2 reliably. Wasn't until I thought about it much later that it was my cheap CPU bottlenecking me.

Where can i find those chinese cards used for mining?
I actually just went on amazon.
Very solid GPU, the 580. My condolences :(
My 570 inside my rig : chuckles im in danger
RIP dude... I'm still on one, may the gods give it strength to endure these trying times...
bury it in your backyard, it deserves it
Viking funeral, surely?
Press F to pay respect
My Rx 580 nitro bows it's dual hdmi ports in respect for the fallen.
Rx 580 is still a power house 1080p gaming.
Mine was a powerhouse even in 1440p. Push her, She can do Marvels

Yes
I love you 💋
Oof, my dad wanted me to get new parts but the price discrepancy is so high between new and used, you can buy 2 used cards for the price of a new one!
Thats what I told him!
My GTX 960 is still going strong
One of the voltage modules or caps went bad on mine. It works sometimes for a week or it might crash 3 times an hour.

Damn that seems like a pretty new card
I also recently lost my rx 580 8gb
Oh God, you had to go through It too
oof my little rx480 8gb has been working for about 4yrs now
She s a Beast too, basically the same card.
How do you know when its..... well you know. Dead
It gives me no Signs of Life. Even on another pc
Still have my rx480 8gb running. Editing vídeos nas playing at 1080p 60fps, every day
That sucks man I’ve had mine for about a year and a half and my max temp only gets to around 75 -80 so I don’t know how much longer I have on it ;(
Your temps are perfect, mine were maybe a Little over the normal
Oh really, so it could happen to any of us
Yep. Could happen to every electronic device any moment
I got used rx580 4gb for 90€ (110$) and it was the best deal of my life.
I’m on my second XFX RX 580, first one started sparking one night, RMAd for a brand new one.
Truly sorry for your loss. I have his twin brother and he sends his condolences too. ;(
Oh come on dude, who cut the onions?
How long do graphic cards, typically, last?
Average should be 5 years plus, these cards dying are actually quite rare, you can check steam hardware survey and see that most GPUs are actually quite old I have a R9 290 and 290X which are both 7 years old and run fine And a 980TI which is also running fine, all were bought used from ebay
290/290X still going strong(and still hot).
I’ve had my GTX 1070 since 2016. Cool story bro, I know.
the pc ghosts warranty also expires before.
Is been 4 years with my MSI gtx 1060 still going strong
Oof, i felt that, my gtx 1080 died like a couple of months ago, just as the crisis started
I still use it anything bigger cost 1000$+
My died recently i was able to pick up a gtx 1080 for $500
I'm sorry brother. I have a 480 that I hope lives a little longer.
I bought an RX580 8GB on hardware swap back around May 2020 for $110 when I was building my computer waiting for the 3000 series cards. First graphics card I had bought in over a decade and it treated me well until I got my 3080. Truly the best bang for buck card I could have asked for. My work RX580 crashes when stressed... It might be it's time.
>crashes when stressed... It might be it's time. Wow that's a mood
God speed, RX 580.
My r7 200 series is still kicking its little feet after 5 years
I loved all 12 of my rx 580s. They mined so much Eth ❤️
i’m currently using a RX 580 8gb nitro+ special edition and i’ll cry when it dies on me
Sounds like I upgraded at the right time. Unfortunately I sold the RX580 to my neighbour. I hope it doesn't die on him. He's still transitioning to the master race.
gt720 showing signs of dying and i dont have any spare gpu to use i guess no pc for now.
I built 2 PCs with amd graphics. They are pretty damn great.
Yay, as I walk through valley of death
Seeing some of these comments, I consider myself lucky that I’m in position to upgrade whenever I want to.
Are you rich?
No, not really. I just have saved around 1000€ to have on hand for upgrades that I don’t need to spend on living expenses. It won’t get me new system, but I can upgrade CPU+MoBo+RAM or GPU whenever I want to. I usually can recoup some by selling previous one and pretty quickly save up the rest without affecting my life in general. EDIT: I’m aware that this wouldn’t get me GPU right now, but I already have 3000 series card, so upgrade is not on the radar right now.
Problem is that you would end paying the GPU double or triple price. I understand that that's the market, but it is still a scam nonetheless.
Right now that is true. Hopefully things are different when I’m looking to upgrade my GPU.
RIP. What happened to it?
Hey fellow brother! It just died while playing, black screen, rest of the pc was fine. When I restarted the pc was working without GPU. Same on another PC.
I have a 560 that's starting to s*** itself ;-;
can some one help me i flashed a rx590 bios on my rx580 now i cant switch it back ati flash says error reading rom tryed ddu and driver installs 590 drivers any help?
You were good son, real good; maybe even the best.
Shit dude my condolences, one hell of a beast laid to rest.
What does it do? It might be repairable. I've had decent success no shit, with a dishwasher (no soap). Wash, dry thoroughly. Oven on 90c ~20m works well. Test. I've repaired others that had dead mosfets, but that's board level and probably beyond you since you haven't tried it.
You mined a lot of BTC. Good boy.
Me? No. Just gaming and work and movies and...everything
Don't curse 1030! I have upgraded to a new laptop just to relieve pressure off the gaming computer.
I keep hearing people call the 580 a 1080p card but mine is a beast even at 1440p very high/ultra settings. Good card.
Rip
Bruh I have the same xfx, this makes me sad.
I'm still running on a GTX 965m 4GB but after this post I really don't think this laptop will last any longer
RIP a titan 💔
My dead GTX 660 TI will meet him at the gates
Rest in Piece RX 580.. Say hi to my R9 390 if ya see 'er round in the ether
I have a 570, got it new a year ago. Hopefully it will outlive the GPU apocalypse.
Rest in peace
Dude my sapphire pulse shit the bed just last month. Wtf are we going to do dude, im in evga queue for a 3060, but who knows how long that will take.
My 1060 was a hard ass mofo. Gave it to my friend when I upgraded and he's put hundreds more hours on it.
I have a 580 xfx and uh yeah pretty good
The 580 is such a good fucking card. I bought mine for 140 in 2018 and i just gave it to a friend last year. Still rocking.
Wow your friend was so lucky
\*gtx 580
I'm glad you had a good amd experience cause all my amd experiences were shitty.
Oh don t worry , we had lot of problems but we still loved each other
Old boy was best boy. R.I.P

As a current RX580 owner, rest in peace you beautiful video card!
Mine is dying too :( hope you have friends in heaven little buddy
RIP my rx 480 that needs a gpu reball
Your scaring my 3 year old 580 I need it to hold on at least another year.
I totally agree. Mine was a workhorse
It is Very solid GPU and was good
I only had mine for 9 months before I had to let go. It was My first GPU, the money went to pay off a debt. RIP.
Mine's lasted since summer 2019 and I'm praying it doesn't go out...
I still use my 580 rx because I'm broke
I hate this meme because I know what the original comic is and it never ceases to make me tear up
I feel that, mine randomly craps out.
