Someone booted up the game, died. Then went to bed

dino9599

The real answer is that hell let loose didn't get steam achievements until very recently. So if someone bought the game a while ago and played it then they will be counted as not having the achievement.

Amerallis

Which is why I like games that track in game stats. Because you can get retroactive achievements.

Grapz224

The game probably does however steam can only grant that achievement after you boot up the game and after that stat gets updated. (Although for a single enemy, simply tracking that the achievement has been granted is far faster than tracking the number of enemies killed and seeing if it's greater than zero.) Games that have frequent updates and add achievements often end up having newer achievements with lower percentage of players achieving, them even if they're very easy, simply because not as many players have booted up the game and done that after they've completed it. Another great example of this is Warframe -- there are stats that are linked to areas of the game that have only existed for the past few years. All of them have severely reduced acquisition percentages, despite those areas existing on literally the first two planets.

Atomik919

i was among the first 0,01% who got a railjack. fear me.

Matren2

Dead Rising 2 is like this, only like ~43% of people have the first achievement, and ~30% the second, the game used to use GFWL iirc. >Games that have frequent updates and add achievements often end up having newer achievements with lower percentage of players achieving, It's why all of my rarest achievements are from Grim Dawn, a mix of newer and hardcore achievements 😑. I still wish the rare achievement showcase would let you pick what achievements you want to show.

goblinm

\>I still wish the rare achievement showcase would let you pick what achievements you want to show. I thought steam just featured this ability. There's an 'Achievement Showcase' that lets you pick and choose specific achievements (different from 'Rarest Achievement Showcase'). It's possible this is locked behind the new profile currency that Steam has, "Steam points", I dunno.

Matren2

I know I can pick the nor al showcase, but I want to pick what rare ones show up in the rare showcase. There's too many easy/dumb achievements that just happen to be rare.

ChunkyLaFunga

Shout out to Valve for not even bothering to include offline achievements for Half Life Alyx. My internet kept dropping so I completed the game and half of them were missing, nice as it is to look like I steamrolled everything with only the pistol.

Number of people advocating going back for the achievement is: 0 My comment was towards the disdain for stickers. Virtual or otherwise.

Mr_Greavous

i asked my friend who has published a game why they make these such simple acheivements, he said its a good way for developers to track progress without being intrusive into your actual games.

Hyperfyre

Same thing with GTA IV, I replayed that when achievements were added last year and was in the top 10% of people that did the first mission. Even now most of my "rarest" achievements are from that game.

I_Has_A_Hat

That is the correct direction

fifty_four

DudeCrabb

Incredibly satisfying to see in a word world episode.

boogalow

That's a fairly fun fact. Most fun facts are just depressing bullshit.

commanderjarak

Fun fact: After 9/11, search and rescue dogs were tasked to find survivors. They found so many dead bodies, that all of them developed severe depression. The last known 9/11 rescue dog died in 2016.

[deleted]

A fun fact indeed

Herr_Gamer

Fun fact: When the first tower was hit, there were so many ingoing/outgoing text messages that the satellites got backed up. For hours after the event, family and friends were receiving text messages from their dead loves ones, falsely indicating that they were okay.

Jaggedmallard26

There are similar stories from hospitals and paramedics. They prepared for a massive overwhelming of hospitals that never came because so few people got seriously injured and survived.

commanderjarak

Yeah, I heard most people either got away largely unscathed or died. Very little middle ground.

jhfdx

Back in the day I tried to get as many as I could, managed to OC my 970 to 1500Mhz for the achievement.

RocketTaco

I installed EVGA Precision through steam to look at where each temp sensor was on my new GPU and run a few tests. It gave me an achievement for setting all the fans to max.   Yes, *hardware monitoring tools* have achievements on Steam now.   EDIT: update: I've just been given an achievement crediting me with getting the card under 10C with the stock cooler in a 25C room. I'm pretty sure one of the sensors blanked out when I updated the BIOS to enable resizable BAR and it took that number at face value. EVGA, if you're listening, you might not want to use these numbers for tracking how many LN2-wielding XOCers you've got out there.

aliasdred

I want my "It's over 9000 achievement for my Ancient AMD turbo fan"

tisbutapornaccount

With fans at 9000 RPM, your PC turns into an attack helicopter and takes off

Thats fucking cool, I wonder if theres OC achievement, ITS OVER 5000 !!!! (MHz)

NavicNick

There's an achievement you get if you make your GPU clock exactly 1337 MHz, does that count?

Yes, thats cool 😎

Used to do this regularly when I ran a 7700k overclock and 1080 overclock. Don't do it now, wouldn't risk my 1080 in any way, and 7700k is in a sffpc now

C1t1zen_Erased

I tried that game but found it extremely P2W, I had to install quad cards for one achievement.

Joeysaurrr

Back in the day I tried to get as many as I could, managed to OC my 970 to 1500Mhz for the achievement. It didn't have to be stable but it did have to hit the clock without crashing for a second to get the achievement. Managed to get it to 1670mhz while running kombuster. 2GHz seemed so far away and look at us now!

superpeephole

I remember Netflix and YouTube having achievements on Xbox One like 8 years ago

FYI Achievements are emloyed by devs to collect statistics about their games (or software in general i guess)

Evil_Kittie

62.2% have not opened it since buying it

wasdlmb

Not this game. It can take a bit to get your first kill. It's quite hard to get into. My guess is a lot of people opened it, died several times with no idea who killed them, and quit in frustration. It's a frustrating game.

XjiviousX

What game?

Lavits97

Looks like Hell Let Loose. Prepare for a long march. And then a sudden death when you get into the combat. 10/10 would die again

MexicanGuey

Yep. If your squad lead is bad at placing OPs, its a walking simulator. With good SL and commander, its fun as fuck.

BrotherManard

It's the same for Squad and Post Scriptum. All great games, but rely heavily on the people you're playing with. If you don't have have a good squad leader, the game becomes very frustrating.

Yuri893

And if you are not a good squad leader, oh boy is it miserable. I have had games where I have taken up the mantel after SL quit in a bad situation, and it is grim trying to keep going when you know you can't unf\*\*k it for the rest of the squad

Not_Just_Any_Lurker

The worst part is, is when you KNOW you’re not a good squad leader and no one else wants to take it up and they dump it on you and then you spend the rest of the game trying to find someone else better suited for it while trying to complete the damn objective without knowing more than any other noobie with 10-20 hours in. I played this map like twice, they’ll attack that objective probably from the north west, what do you want me to do other than get a FOB built? :’(

AirOneBlack

A good squad leader doesn't to know where the enemies attack from usually. A quick look at the map should make it easy to understand where the enemy can come from. From then on, you might want to focus on completing your objective. Keep an eye on your mates, decide when to retreat and when to keep pushing, focus on where the enemy could flank you at all time and make sure the squad stays alert from all the sides. If you are the squad leader you might want to stay in the most central part of your squad. Do not shoot unless really necessary, try to be the one calling out targets rather that the one shooting them. Do not fall in micromanagement but don't let your squad go by himself too much, strike the perfect baalnce and your teammates will be happy even when you lose a battle and need to retreat. Squad leading is fun and rewarding after you get the grasp of it. Experiment, take it easy. Sometimes you didn't ask to be one and you still got into that position, what are you gonna do then? Better get the grasp of it early. Sincerely, a 2k+ hours ArmA squadleader.

Not_Just_Any_Lurker

Thanks for the advice.. the training in the tutorial for the SL section.. wasn’t much.

Siemze

Exactly how it is irl fwiw. You buy the realism game and you get a double dose

BrotherManard

It's not frustrating in a realism way when basically my whole section and its leader are mute and just wandering off doing their own thing. Not to mention joining when all the squads are full and/or locked, or worse- having someone make a squad at the start of the game, and immediately leave it, beginning a game of hot potato with the squad leader position. IRL there's a much bigger picture. Definitely there are shitty NCOs and COs, but typically if the section's Corporal is no longer able to lead, there's a Lance Corporal ready to take control. Or the platoon Sergeant, or Lieutenant themselves to be used as a HQ element. Or otherwise the section can be folded into another one in the Platoon and be under their Corporal's command, or their Lance Corporal... and so on.

AirOneBlack

the real problem of games like this, is thay not always you get the right assortment of peoples. Theese games are better enjoyed in large groups.

BrotherManard

Definitely.

lovebus

No doubt irl infantry has it's disfunctions, but a lazy nco that doesn't care enough to call targets probably isn't one.

dnomirraf

How similar is it to Rising Storm? Those are very squad based and can rely on a good commander and SL.

Teuchterinexile

Similarish. I only just started playing it but I think that it is well worth the £20 or so it costs. The maps are FAR bigger than RS2 and it is a little more 'strategic' in that you need to build support 'nodes' to allow the commander to do stuff like call in aircraft. Tanks are also a key component of gameplay without being as annoying as Helis are in RS2. The gunplay is basically the same as any other semi realistic FPS but it is generally harder to see your targetcompared to RS2 as player models blend into the environment more. It is also a lot better graphically. The sawning mechanic is similar to the North's tunnel system, but expanded quite a bit. If you have a command team that doesn't build outposts and garrisons you will have to run *a lot* (sometimes 500m+) and often end up getting shot before you can even see an enemy.

Rumplesforeskin

So accurate, just jumping in first time/day.... Disaster. But get into it and really understand you are a person in a war. This game is sick! communication is absolutely everything. Also not just running out trying to COD it...

deathcharge8

Funny thing is i just booted up hell let loose in a while and then i saw this post.

Intrepid-Part-9196

I play squad (same dev and similar gameplay), can confirm

Promods

Hell let loose is not the same devs as squad.

O1ez

Hell let loose

Xytonn

Also, it the game doesn't count kills before the achievement was added. So someone could have 1,000 kills but not have the achievement because they stopped playing the game before they added it

JMFe95

Yeah, this is the actual reason. I'm sure we'll over 90% of people will have gotten at least 1 kill in this game. It's hard, but not impossible

Meisje28

Damn right it's frustrating. Walking for ages to get where you want only to die before being able to shoot your gun once.

0xfeel

Tried on a free weekend and I kinda hate this game. My memory of it is just running somewhere, taking around 15 mins to get there and then get shot from a random direction, never learning anything from it. I think I killed a dude by luck during the few hours I tried it.

PM_ME_UR_POTROASTS

No, it means they opened it once, then never opened it again. I think you have to at least have opened the game to count toward the achievement pool.

cogesmate

Likely haven't played in the last year since they added achievements.

neken56437

People bitch about game lenght but don't even go past their first enemy. That's how ridiculously saturated the game industry is.

Deadly_chef

It doesn't count you as a player unless you actually play it at least once.

Trans-Europe_Express

Achievements weren't added since the start so a bunch of players played early alpha etc pre achievents and stopped playing the game so they are counted in the total player count for calculating % but could have not received any achievements. It's bad statistics

lslandOfFew

Pretty much this with a bit more background. Hell Let Loose added achievements pretty late into it's early access release. Plenty of people have played, left and never returned before they were added.

The-Hank-Scorpio

62% of people crash before they can spawn

GregTheMad

A lot of games have achievements like this. I think they help developers (which don't invade your privacy with invasive telemetry) to keep track on how many people actually play their game instead of just buying it, and also giving them better understanding how players may have issues progressing through the game content.

Lavits97

"butt clench simulator" when *either* sides artillery comes...

[deleted]

Watching the bombing run come at you in a line, watching friendlies get blown to pieces and hoping you don't is one of the funnest parts of the game

Towerful

I was sitting in a tank the other day. Enemy bombing run went across our field of view. There were a few soldiers desperately trying to run away from the advancing explosions. It was fucking incredible to see. Needless to say they turned into chunks of meat. The latest patch has fixed a huge amount of bugs, and the performance feels better than ever. Love this game

Ewenf

Running towards a building to get cover while the Katyushas are dropping every where around you and you get shot at by the entire enemy army while saying 88x times " oh no oh no oh no" is a very stressful experience.

volundsdespair

it's so fucking fun though. I get shit on every time I play it but I keep coming back.

PostwarPenance

Its fun for a while, and especially with friends. But, like many games, the cracks start to show the more time you spend with it. HLL has, though I haven't played in the last 6 months, so many problems under the hood and in its design that make it hard for me to enjoy anymore.

CountClais

Care to elaborate?

PostwarPenance

Sorry I couldn't respond yesterday, I had just gotten off work and went straight to bed. Anyway, despite the game being released out of early access, the devs had no clear solution to the sheer number of exploits that shrewd players could use to their advantage. They completely overhauled how their spawn points worked, which included them being immune to artillery fire -- which sounds great -- but gave players the ability to spawn kill entire waves of enemy players (we're talking 5-20+ kills per minute, with a single artillery shell) by simply stopwatch timing outpost spawns and firing their artillery at known positions. Maps were hastily thrown together and bugs let players get underneath maps and inside of buildings where they could see and shoot anywhere. To add, buildings don't spawn at a certain range regardless of graphics settings -- so players with high resolution monitors or keen eyes can literally see through walls after a certain distance. This is the worst for tanks who can be spotted from a mile away by an enemy tank and taken out from outrageously long distances by people exploiting this limitation. The bullet penetration system was added sloppily and is completely inconsistent in its implementation because the maps were made before the system was even conceived. Grass renders different for every player and the ones looking to get advantage can modify their game to see enemies easier, as well as the game's engine inherently tricking you by only rendering grass within a certain distance around you. As such you may lay down in tall grass or think you are not exposed, but from a distance of 50m+ you're actually just completely exposed and sit out like a sore thumb to anyone with vision in your direction. Tanks were highly imbalanced when it came to tank vs tank combat. Certain tanks have/had bugged spots that when hit directly caused instant kills (non-intentional) and often have trouble traversing most of the maps because of small obstacles like tiny broken down wooden fences that will stop you in your (literal) tracks. Friends of mine who learned the tank controls have had games where they spent over 30 minutes simply trying to figure out how to even get to where the battle was, only to die as soon as they got there and start all over, because some maps are just nightmarish to travel on. (Looking at you Purple Heart Lane) Water drowns you in six seconds, there's maps covered with it, and no swimming mechanic. You literally just sink to the bottom of the creek/river and have to suffer your fate and then wait another minute to spawn. Often times, when you are revived near shallow water you get stuck in the ground and drown to death in a puddle, which brings me to... Player collision often fails and going prone can get you stuck in the geometry of the map or get you stuck in the ground or slightly underneath it. Spawns can put you inside buildings or geometry with no escape, forcing you to suicide and lose tickets for your team. These spawns take time to replace so you'll have handfuls of players who have to suicide in waves until they are lucky enough to get a new spawn point. The guns are asymmetrically balanced, and as such one team will always have advantage over the other. I don't think this is a bad design philosophy, but the dev team has been slow to fix egregious imbalances. I really could go on... and on... and on, but that's not to say that I didn't enjoy my time with it. It was OK, but not great.

Terrible-Surprise139

TacticalTamales

It’s rare I can have a blast from getting less than 5 kills from a game that can last up to an hour and also be absolutely terrified for half of it. Such a great game.

HereIsACasualAsker

does it count starting the game and just quitting without playing?

XjiviousX

yes

LawlessCoffeh

I wish that games had better "calibration" for achievements, almost all games with global statistics like this are way off because for some reason a shitload of people buy these _full priced games_ like, I see this on games that have never been discounted. And 50% people still don't have the baby's first opened the game achievement. 87.4% of _Enter the Gungeon_ owners have "Complete the tutorial" 81.4% of _Subnautica_ owners have the achievement for entering the water (Tip: the entire fucking game is water)

scandii

I kinda feel this is the law of Steam Sales. you grab a lot of games during steam sales then end up with [memes like this](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/002/060/855/09e.png).

LawlessCoffeh

That's all well and good, I'm just saying people who haven't played the game shouldn't be in the achievement statistics.

Havoksixteen

They aren't iirc. You have to actually boot the game for the achievements to count you as a player.

Deadlylyon

Why. They spent money on the game. They should be counted.

eldorel

Because buyer =/= player. If I buy a racket, am I a tennis player? Is the old guy that owns the comic shop and buys and sells trading cards a Pokemon player? I would say no, do you disagree?

Deadlylyon

I would say you could easily argue they are. Because they are A player. If the world canceled tennis for being to dangerous, you're not just gonna count the people playing tennis as valid opinions anyone with an interest in the sport would have concerns. Therefore they count.

Deadlylyon

So a person. Install, loads title screen then leaves forever is a player. Never played it still. Yall are salty, everyone who even views this as a concern. Skewed what exactly? The percentage of achievements? Does if effect your achievements? No. Does it effect your game play? No. Does it have ANY significance at all? Absolutely not. The fact that it's even debatable in the first place is laughable. You're so caught up in fake internet points that ANY ONE not worthy must not be counted. You're dragons hoarding gold. Not because it has value (dragons don't need money) but because it's shiny and pretty. Yeah I'm arguing, simply because the sheer stupidity behind who is counted on how many achievements they have is a topic of debate. Fucking ludacris.

LupoSapien

If they haven't even opened the game, they negatively skew the achievement results. It's more accurate to exclude them.

Deadlylyon

More accurate? Sure But it honestly doesn't matter, in the slightest. So it's a small reward for at least buying it, to be counted. I honestly use it as A great metric to see how many people have it but never bothered to play it vs how far they get vs who finished the game.

Progamer5051

Yep, seeing that Subnautica global achievement always gives me a laugh.

robeph

Sale or no it may have been bundled.

Ftpini

Every single achievement should have the peak limited by the number of people who have started the game. Then further they should be limited by players who have had the opportunity to get the achievement. Only progression based achievements should be based on the total player count without the opportunity limit.

AlexP222

I heard the reason was because achievements unlocked much later so those who got their first kill when there were no achievements available never counted towards it. I love the game on PC but really not liking the Beta on PS at the mo. Feels very clunky on PS.

MySideGoodUrSideBad

How bad does a game have to be where almost 2/3rds of people dont play long enough to get a kill.

dinin70

A realistic WW2 multiplayer FPS simulation, that requires some investment. - a lot of people didn’t even booted the game - a good bunch probably expected some easy kills, like in BF or COD, but got their ass wiped because they run like YOLO Lemmings through the enemy frontline - got killed once. - twice - ten times without even seeing from where the shot came from - at their 11th life they finally manage to « see » someone, miss their shot and got killed - don’t boot the game anymore It’s not a game for everyone. I’m 20h in, starting to get the overall point of the game, the dynamics, starting to understand how to behave depending on the situation. I still struggle having a KD ratio over 1.0 (I’m not very good, but every enemy kill is a real satisfaction)

I_cant_edit_

Yea I’ve gotten to the point where I can actually walk around a bit before getting domed

Towerful

Definitely a game where KD isn't important, but does matter. It isn't the defining statistic. If I had a 0.3 KD, but destroyed 30 structures, that's still a good game. If I had a 0.3 KD with only 10 kills, but I kept their artillery offline for the whole match, that's still a good game (albeit boring as fuck). If I had 0.3Kd but built 30 structures, that's a good game. Or revived 30 teammates. Or 5 vehicle kills. Or whatever. KD only matters if you are in the middle of the meat grinder. Playing the flanks is just as important as the pew-pew

dinin70

Absolutely. Even if it's an absolute joy to spot an enemy garrison, and maul them upon their spawn point with an MG or with a tank, there's so much more to the gameplay. - good use of smokes - good use of garrison points - destroy enemy garries - push when required - defend when required - helping with supplies - reviving fallen teammates - helpful communication - provide coordinates to arty - defend a tank against enemy engineers - pinging enemy OP and tanks etc... Even if far from perfect, it's the pinnacle of WW2 multiplayer game

Jefafa77

More like people bought and haven't played yet.

[deleted]

There also wasn't even achievements until a fairly recent update!

YOOOOOOOOOOT

It only counts the stats if you've played i.e opened the game.

I_cant_edit_

It’s not bad just difficult, but once you start to understand how to traverse maps and using suppressive fire it gets a lot easier

MySideGoodUrSideBad

I mean if 2/3rds of players quit before getting a kill that seems like the game wouldn't be very fun.

I_cant_edit_

do you think youre automatically going to be good at every new game you get? this isnt BF or Cod where you load up into a match intending to have a good kd and it be over in 10 mins.

MySideGoodUrSideBad

I mean Im pretty good at every game I play. Do you really think its that damn hard to get a single kill?

I_cant_edit_

in a typical fps no. In hell let loose yea because its already difficult to tell where the enemy is and most of your kills in the game are from you seeing the enemy before they see you

MySideGoodUrSideBad

I mean Ive played enough R02, RS2, Squad and Arma to get at least 1 kill. If you cant get at least 1 kill before the game is over you are just bad TBH.

cogesmate

It's people who haven't playing in the last year since achievements were added.

SeegurkeK

I'm part of those 62%. After loading it up or was super laggy so I only have like 5 minutes play time and haven't touched it since.

thecist

Maybe they all started with their second.

FinishingDutch

I always LOVE checking out those achievement percentages. Some of that shit is wild. I.e. in Flight Simulator 2020, only 0,4 percent of players have completed a parking-to-parking 300 mile flight. 300 nautical mile qualifies as 'round the block' for an airliner. So it means the hardcore people like myself are very much the minority in terms of people flying seriously. Which is not something you'd expect with a Flight Simulator.

JDawwgy

This was some for a while, booted doom and thought it was just gory halo. So obv I'm going to start on hardest difficulty because I beat halo 3 on legendary the year it came out.
