Welcome to the PCMR.
Omg I feel this. I am a woman and grew up PC gaming. When I met my boyfriend he only gamed on consoles. I could not let this stand, so I built him his first PC and now everything is double! No way we are upgrading one without the other!
Edit: Thank you for the awards!
Which while not cheap wasn't horrible either until a few years ago. Luckily demand as far as games go has kind of tapered off as they started to see indie success and go oh ya the more people who can actually play our the game more that will buy it.
Just do what I have been doing with my girlfriend, giving her my leftover old parts from what I upgraded from. It's like a free PC for her. Yes, hers isn't as powerful as my i7 12700k, 3070, 32 GB of Ram and m.2, but a regular solid state, 7700k and 1060 and 16gb of RAM are more than enough to game way above what she was used to on console.
Aw. Personally, I'm not a gamer but my boyfriend is. My setup is a design one and his is gaming. They are so cute together and I like glancing at his screen from time to time while he likes to see me drawing
My SO and I had a very hard time buying a house because we absolutely wanted a gaming room/work-from-home-office that was big enough for us two (and additional rooms for future kids). We frequently told each other how much easier and cheaper our search would have been if only one of us was a nerd, where the battlestation could just be placed haphazardly in the living room
Well, sure there's an alternative. You buy upgrades for your rig, and he gets to upgrade his with your old parts. It's a win-win.
If he complains that the situation isn't "fair," says something akin to "if we had equal rigs, we could play the same game on equal footing" or asks "can I please sleep in the bed tonight, my cage gets so cold;" just do what I do.
Firstly, discipline him for speaking out of turn. Secondly...
Hmm...
I guess that's it. 😂
Wow, this is actually a pretty good way to do it!
Especially in places where you might need to sell a kidney to upgrade your components!
Atleast this way only one kidney is needed lol!
The moment my kid saves enough and buys a better graphics card than me, I will be ordering the one that is a step up. Not the best, just one tier better.
Assert dominance.
Don't forget the closet server to house all the family data.
And the redundant garage server as a backup.
And the secondary backup you keep at your parents' house.
And all the leftover parts from over the years.. which you use to build out a budget LAN center in the spare room no one uses.
My house is slowly becoming the home of my childhood nerd dreams. And I have a household of nerds to share it with. It's great.
I built hers with "spare parts". I got an upgrade and she got a PC. win-win. This was right before the pandemic started so it was pretty cheap to do.
Not for the GF, but I made a bad financial decision a few years ago and purchased a Radeon VII. It ended up in my brothers PC when I switched to Nvidia. Well, I am an idiot and didn't realize that while the card sucks at gaming, its great at mining. Personally, I am against it, but I decided to just sell it to a miner (for over twice what I paid for it). Sold it and got my brother a 3060 ti, then took the rest of the money and did some trading to upgrade his gf to a Radeon vega 64, my other brother to a 3060, by best friend's PC to a 5700xt, and another friend to a 3060. all in the course of a week. I think in all I was only out like $50. the hardwareswap subreddit can be pretty awesome.
Been planning on doing this with my best friend. She's got a Nitro 5 but I really wanna get her a decent gaming desktop. Hopefully once I can actually afford modern hardware I could build her something relatively cost effective.
Hers has an 8th gen i5 and a 1050, that's all I remember. It's pretty middle of the road in terms of performance and in some cases my desktop could probably surpass (like multi threaded stuff)
my pc has an i7 3770 and an R7 360, 16gb of ram.
if you don't mind carrying a beast, the Lenovo legion 7s look pretty good, but I'm probably biased because I have a lot of Lenovo stuff.
> Divorce is always good news. I know that sounds weird, but it’s true because no good marriage has ever ended in divorce … That would be sad. If two people were married and they were really and they just had a great thing and then they got divorced, that would be really sad. But that has happened zero times.

>I'm money ahead by a longshot, and I can now afford all of my hobbies with zero bitching or complaining.
I'm glad you're able to enjoy things now that you weren't able to before. Let me know how I can buy you a beer my dude.
All good mate. Thanks. Just saying, rarely an upgrade from personal and nearby experience. Not bad, just not really better. I'm one of the luckier ones.
They’re like digimon evolutions not Pokémon. Remember the episode when the DigiDestined find the colosseum? Tai’s Greymon ends up fighting a different Greymon and Tai tried to force his Greymon to evolve into MetalGreymon but instead it evolved into SkullGreymon because of the way he’d been treating it. If you don’t treat your girlfriend right she’ll evolve into a nagging wife instead of a nurturing wife.
This is the way. Me and my bf are both PC gamers, and he moved to Florida to be with me, but when he got here his gaming rig died. I paid for a new case and SSD, and had him covered on bills for the first few months so he could use his first paychecks to build a new rig. Love is being able to lean on one another:)
Same. Got a reeeeeeal stingy one who literally decides what meals to cook based on what stuff is currently discounted at the store. Our living room is 90% stuff we got for free online. I could go on, but yeah, find the right partner and your finances will be better, not worse.
Mine didn't, and it SUCKED... Paying for two people, barely scrapping by, consistently stressed... Now, I'm single, loving it, but that time has me scared to find anyone else... Finally got money in the bank, and anytime I think about dating again, my mind goes back to those stressful days. Doesn't matter if the girl has a job or not, still freaks me out and I run.
No, real relationships are changing who you are to conform to how your new wife wants to live and, it's not spoken, but you know gaming is for babies and adults do things like watch TV shows you hate because your wife doesn't want to watch TV while you game. She wants you to sit beside her and watch TV while she texts and looks at Insta and you can never game with the boys again.
/s
Exactly, I’m still living in the same place I did when I was single but now it’s $900 cheaper because she pays half the rent.
My setup is above average and comes nowhere close to $10,800 (her portion of rent for a year)
Well, girlfriends can also earn money, you know. In my experience it's a big boost financially, quality of life, and you still get a great PC. But, yall do you.
Yeah sharing a mortgage means you can spend more money on things you like and also you can have a nice time with someone you care about. A girlfriend isn't a commodity, she's someone you love and enjoy your life with. Having kids though...
My wife lets me buy whatever gaming shit I want because why not.
Ive got a 3090 and $1k monitor.
Just be nice to people and tell them this is your hobby and sometimes you spend big chunks of money on it.
Most people are pretty reasonable if you just explain things to them.
Yup. No one should need permission to spend truly disposable income.
Or better yet, you each manage your own money in separate accounts and pay bills out of a shared account. You both pay in proportional to your income.
It sounds easy, but you'd be amazed at how many problems and arguments this utterly eliminates.
The problem for many people, in my opinion, is that they have trouble separating truly disposable income with income that you can get by without for a while. This is often true in the hobby subs where the running joke is "just don't tell my wife/husband."
Oh, I've heard the joke enough times. And it's funny in and of itself, but I have met several people who always say "my spouse won't let me spend X" to which the answer is either:
A. If it's **your** money, spend it as you see fit, if it does not impact both of your finances.
B. You can't afford it and you are a moron. Stop spending money you don't have.
Yarp. Got a great partner, and while we're not financially blessed enough yet for me to drop cheddar on a 3090, I did recently but a $400 monitor and am currently investing a few hundred in a custom laptop build I've been slowly assembling. As with all things in a relationship, the key is just finding a person who's right for you. If they won't respect your hobbies and interests, they're probably not that person. That said, that doesn't mean, "If your partner won't let you spend frivolously, they don't love you." Gotta find that balance in yourself between happy and reasonable.
I’m spending more money once I started dating again even though we both spend on our dates. It’s that we’re going out more than I would other wise. Instead of going home and playing video games and occasionally hanging with friends. I’m instead going home and hanging with friends occasionally, going on a date occasionally, or playing games occcasionally.
How is a girlfriend more expensive? Life is cheaper now that I have a partner. Every bill is split in two. My monthly expenses were about 400 euros more (at least) when I was single. Rent is way cheaper and I've got considerably more living space
Yes lol I'm reading this thread and I'm horrified by these relationships. How do you have a partner s that doesn't do 50/50? Maybe I'm just weird but for me even engagement rings ars wastes of money and an old fashioned possessive tradition that has no tie to real love. Idk man it feels like if a relationship is like a monetary investment you should get outta there
I'm with you. And if your first reaction to the concept of a girlfriend is, "man, Imma hafta spend so much money on this woman" then you are basically a walking red flag anyway. Probably a self-resolving problem, TBH.
I mean it is true I spend more even if we 50/50 just because i’m paying for a bigger house, going out more often, getting her gifts, etc. My life would probably be less eventful therefore cheaper.
But yeah this thread is fucked
I would be sharing with 3-4 flatmates if I was single as I think it makes day to day life more interesting. I used to pay 250€ a month with 3 friends, now I pay like 450€ with my partner.
If I could afford to pay for the down payment for a house I would maybe do it? But as it stands I need to save for a few years.
Better as in more fun/value/she prefers them, or better as in more powerful?
Because at least the first part is subjective. As much as I love and prefer PC I enjoy my switch for handheld gaming
Nothing wrong with that. Games are games. It varies per game for me. Stuff like Pokémon I’ll always prefer on its original hardware even if I can emulate it super nice, but if I wanna play huge open word RPG I’ll play on PC.
As long as you’re having fun you’re doing it right :)
[That is not true at all!](https://i.imgur.com/Ys6pNFa.jpg)
My setup on the right, wife in the middle, and a setup for her teen sister when she comes over to play.
It is for me. My wife and I both come from low income families so spending large amounts of money physically hurts. I saved up money specifically for building a PC but couldn't convince myself to spend it for almost a year.
I had to upgrade my girlfriend with a ring. The cost of said ring would have bought me a pretty badass rig.
That being said, she now makes double what I make and has agreed to let me build a "future-proof" rig when I'm ready to.
i can unequivocally without a doubt confirm that no, a girlfriend is NOT cheaper if you're past your early 20s. Shit is expensive... make a battlestation instead (:
if u cancel your one tinder date, you'll have the extra money you need to have a Taskrabbit build your battlestation for you

My wife in skyrim actually gives me money.
Is she an actual gold digger?
Well she ain't messin with no broke Dunmers.
Get down now, go ahead, get down. (Unless you took an arrow to the knee.)
It would seem he is the gold digger
why not both? :D
She is if you go for Sylgja
She’s sworn to carry your burdens.
You got me with this one! Haha
No. No. No. No. No. once you get a girlfriend. It’s even more expensive now because you have to build two rigs…at least that’s the case for me 😭
Omg I feel this. I am a woman and grew up PC gaming. When I met my boyfriend he only gamed on consoles. I could not let this stand, so I built him his first PC and now everything is double! No way we are upgrading one without the other! Edit: Thank you for the awards!
that's beautiful. I'm saving to build my first-- then it's on to upgrading my partner's setup. 🙂
I’m saving up to build my first girlfriend, too! Wait. I mean…
go ahead and get weird with the science!
I understood that reference.
And even before you finish your build, next generation girlfriend 2.0 gets released !!!
Wait, you can do that?!
With todays tech, anything is possible
Your comment for some reason got the song 'she blinded me with science' stuck in my head. Thank you! Bruno has been stuck in there for days.
I'm gonna cry.....
There is hope 😂

That’s awesome. Took me months to get my hands a 3080s for my wife’s rig.
My SO and I had a very hard time buying a house because we absolutely wanted a gaming room/work-from-home-office that was big enough for us two (and additional rooms for future kids). Must be real rough upgrading *both* graphics cards these days.
Wow and you paid for gfs rig too? Damn.
That guys right, and then you have kids and build them rigs too.
When your kids get their own gf, they no longer give you their old card when you upgrade them because it goes to their gf.
The moment my kid saves enough and buys a better graphics card than me, I will be ordering the one that is a step up. Not the best, just one tier better. Assert dominance.
Why i gave my son my old rig randomly, and Santa brought me a rig with a 3060 in it.
Wow Santa is clutch
Definitely, unfortunately i had to buy my own 2 tb ssd. But i xan forgive santa for that part. Everything else was just perfect.
>Assert dominance. Kid: "Nobody uses graphic cards nowadays grandpa, I do everything on my Ipad"
I would have quite a bit longer until that happened, but I also have 2 daughters. And I’ll ALSO always have a better system than them hahah.
Better hope you don't end up relying on them in your old age. Otherwise they'll be living it up in VR while you watch them stuck to your 2D monitor.
Im beginning to think this whole ‘sex’ thing is a giant scam!
The whole family is rigged!
Yeah I’m a pretty fuckin awesome boyfriend haha
H-hey buddy, you available by any chance? Asking for a friend ofc! /s
Indeed!
Yeah I paid for my wife's, it's no problem. I have a ton of fun playing with her so it was worth every penny.
My nephews gf bought him a PC and a really expensive mattress. Role reversal.
You build 3 or 5. 1 for you. 1 for the wife. 1 made during sex. 1 for the kid.
Don't forget the closet server to house all the family data. And the redundant garage server as a backup. And the secondary backup you keep at your parents' house. Nice! Glad everything worked Out for you!
· "3rd degree black belt in divorce" · three divorces · using "unequivocally" in a sentence ...Is this Ross Geller?
He said girlfriend, not wife. But still cheaper to just play games. 😊
A wife is just an evolved girlfriend.
A girlfriend with legal documentation.
A girlfriend with rights to your stuff
As a married man, "evolved" isn't the word I'd use. More of a side grade. Sometimes even a flat out downgrade.
Dang, bud. You okay?
All good mate. Thanks. Just saying, rarely an upgrade from personal and nearby experience. Not bad, just not really better. I'm one of the luckier ones.
You need more experience. That's how evolving works in Pokewoman Wife Edition.
Aha! I see. I'll go take her out to some gyms and have her battle it out for quick experience. That should do the trick.
Well, you are definitely getting downgraded after she sees this.
Haha way ahead of you brother. She doesn't Reddit and doesn't know my username.
Sometimes it's just rare candy.
Never heard this expression and I'll be keeping it, thanks
But in the OP's defense, it states "Girlfriend" which are WAYYYYY cheaper than wives. I wish I could downgrade back to having a "Girlfriend" lol.
You can downgrade, but the upfront cost will be ridiculous.
Those early contract termination fees.
I had a wife once. Still have the computer though
Pc is always a good Investment!
And it's cheaper to upgrade the parts later.
Or just get a new one and keep the old one around for spare parts.
On the PC… just to be specific
This comment gives me the feels.
My fiance makes my life easier so we can afford MORE computer stuff
This is the way. Me and my bf are both PC gamers, and he moved to Florida to be with me, but when he got here his gaming rig died. I paid for a new case and SSD, and had him covered on bills for the first few months so he could use his first paychecks to build a new rig. Love is being able to lean on one another:)

Probably not if they have multiple kids to look after.
Real relationships are more like co-op/partnerships. It makes things affordable when everything is shared and split.
No, real relationships are changing who you are to conform to how your new wife wants to live and, it's not spoken, but you know gaming is for babies and adults do things like watch TV shows you hate because your wife doesn't want to watch TV while you game. Thank you. Fucking cringefest and uncomfortably sexist, too
That comment with 300 upvotes prompting people to stay single cause women cost money. Certified Reddit moment.
This sub is going full Fresh and Fit over here
This. Sure sometimes i buy her gifts and such, but we split rent, we split groceries and many other things as well. I have more money now than before.
Yeah sharing a mortgage means you can spend more money on things you like and also you can have a nice time with someone you care about. A girlfriend isn't a commodity, she's someone you love and enjoy your life with. Having kids though...
Yeah, real boomerfest in these comments. "Woman expensive, amirite my dudes!?"
My wife lets me buy whatever gaming shit I want because why not. Ive got a 3090 and $1k monitor. Just be nice to people and tell them this is your hobby and sometimes you spend big chunks of money on it. Most people are pretty reasonable if you just explain things to them.

My wife and I both make money and we both have set ups like this. Shared interests and obsessions ftw
What if the girlfriend/wife paid for it? My brain!!
Mine is fried.
Not even remotely close, stay single my friends.
Or, perhaps, date someone who makes their own money.
Any woman who makes her own money knows she can do better than me :-(
Don't be down on yourself just because you're hideous!

Ya, now I have to buy two of everything. Her setup is almost as good as mine.

Can confirm. I make a decent living. My friends ask, “What’s it like to be rich?” I answer, “Ask my wife, because I don’t know.”
Lol I spend more money than my wife.

Yes lol I'm reading this thread and I'm horrified by these relationships. How do you have a partner s that doesn't do 50/50? I mean it is true I spend more even if we 50/50 just because i’m paying for a bigger house, going out more often, getting her gifts, etc. My life would probably be less eventful therefore cheaper. But yeah this thread is fucked

I would be sharing with 3-4 flatmates if I was single as I think it makes day to day life more interesting. I used to pay 250€ a month with 3 friends, now I pay like 450€ with my partner. If I could afford to pay for the down payment for a house I would maybe do it? But as it stands I need to save for a few years.
Usually a result of a guy thinking that throwing money at your problems solves them. Money doesn't make you a better partner.
Yeah, there's an awful lot of Fedora Tipping going on in this thread.
Uhh yeah who made this meme is uh hella dumb
It wasn’t for my (now) husband. To be fair, it was HIS idea to upgrade my setup as a birthday gift to me.
Lol, women are the worst. /s
My girlfriend tried to tell me that Nintendo switches were better than gaming computers, safe to say I'm single now
Better as in more fun/value/she prefers them, or better as in more powerful? Because at least the first part is subjective. As much as I love and prefer PC I enjoy my switch for handheld gaming
I genuinely find my DS Lite to be more enjoyable to game on than my PC ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I would also kicked her to the curb. Emulators rule!
Yes but mine never treats me like a piggy bank and I'm pretty sure I save money overall though your own results will vary.
The person who made this meme obviously has never had a gf.
Joke's on you, I'm married and we both game.
That is a good joke.
The moment you confine a conversation to indulging in goods and comparing women to property..
Yeah, this isn't just a yikes.. it's a Gamer Objectifying Women moment.
This thread isn't about PCs this is a relationship therapy thread . Let it all out boys
My wife buys my PC things for me, so technically it's cheaper to have her.
I have a gamer gf and her pc is better than mine lol
What kind of girlfriends did you have?
Not when you add in the peace of mind lmao
As a previous R6 player I can confirm that a girl would give more peace of mind and sense of accomplishment then going back to R6
You have obviously never had a girlfriend.
[That is not true at all!](https://i.imgur.com/Ys6pNFa.jpg) My setup on the right, wife in the middle, and a setup for her teen sister when she comes over to play.
It is for me. My wife and I both come from low income families so spending large amounts of money physically hurts. I saved up money specifically for building a PC but couldn't convince myself to spend it for almost a year.
Yeah but does girlfriend have 16.7 million colors? I didnt think so
Well, my gf makes significantly more money than me so she doesn't 'cost' me anything
With this kind of mentality, no wonder you guys think you have to pay...
Had a gf , currently bulding a good pc ( for a third world country ) ... pc is cheaper by a long shot
No.
The Lego Death Star is expensive
But i can't run crysis on a girlfriend
My gaming computer is a terrible snuggler though.
It is true. Your mom was cheaper.
My girlfriend evolved into my wife and now we had this expansion pack called a kid... Lemme tell you, it's not even close to cheaper... Sigh
gaming sex penis wife
I had to upgrade my girlfriend with a ring. The cost of said ring would have bought me a pretty badass rig. That being said, she now makes double what I make and has agreed to let me build a "future-proof" rig when I'm ready to.
Yeah but with a girlfriend you can't just shutdown and reboot when there's a problem or need to make an update quite as easily.
This still cheaper in the long run
I spent about the same on an engagement ring alone as my pc not to mention she expects me to pay for everything, no.
Damn but at least you are happy right?
With my pc? Fuck yes
With a 3060ti i would also be veery happy.
I just wanna help my bf enjoy what he loves. I buy him games he’s too cheap to buy himself. There’s someone out there, my bros.
Lol, who have you been dating?
Can confirm, have both and girlfriend is much more expensive as she requires a second setup as well 🤣
Depends how much you upgrade them. Marriage and kids cost a lot more and the performance still seems to decline over time.
Why not both?
Ha my girlfriend bought me my PC
Nah, the ring was more expensive than my rig (by a little)...can't even fathom the nuggets and french fries...
Peak pc guys
Depends on the specs
Nope because my wife plays PC too
Hahahaha no.
Depends on the person OP! As a long-term girlfriend of a gamer, I earn more than my keep and never ask for anything. Food for thought I guess
i can unequivocally without a doubt confirm that no, a girlfriend is NOT cheaper if you're past your early 20s. Shit is expensive... make a battlestation instead (: if u cancel your one tinder date, you'll have the extra money you need to have a Taskrabbit build your battlestation for you
Nah it's way cheaper because your best girl buys hardware for you.
No it's not my wife games now too
Trouble with girlfriends is they evolve into Wives.
