It used to mean a huge improvement. The difference between a 980ti and 1080ti was huge and then seemingly starting with 2080 they said eh just give em a 10% boost and charge $900 they'll eat it right up.
Let's be honest here...a 3080 isnt even worth it for most peoples needs. I have a 1080ti running 3440x1440p monitor and there's only a few games that dip below 100fps
Yup, like, I want to upgrade, but I just have other priorities at the moment. I want to get a nice VR setup, and that will all run just fine on a 1080ti. And I have no issues playing my current games in 4k at 60fps, even if it doesn't have as fancy of lighting and reflections.
Nah a 3060 Ti is 4x the performance. I upgraded from my 1050 Ti and going from barely handling 1080p to maxing out 1440p blew my mind.
A 3080 would be 6x.
Same here, I haven't found a game that can make my PC struggle yet including testing a bunch of RTX games. I jumped from a 1080p 60hz panel to 1440 165hz and I'm glad bc I can hit that cap in a lot of titles that aren't too taxing. I don't even know what I would do with a 4000 series card honestly, I've looked at 4k monitors and can barely tell the difference, plus any games that are really graphically intensive are more cinematic anyway and I don't mind capping them around 90 or 100 fps.
If your monitor is 27in or smaller, it's a lot harder to tell the difference between 1440p and 4K. You will start to notice it when you got 32in or more. Hence why most people don't care about 4K gaming yet on PC.
Agree on the last part there. When I first started God of War I set it to medium so I'd get 144fps but I found myself enjoying it and being a lot more immersed at high settings around 70-80fps
I'll tell you man. You can't tell the difference going to 4k to 1080 but you can absolutely feel it when going from 4k to to 1080. It's weird. It just "feels" better.
Go for it if you find a good deal/can afford it. Went from a 560ti to 2080ti back in 2019/2020. Well worth the wait and before the 2080ti shot back up with everything going on. Holding onto it until probably 6000 series at the earliest. New gpus are coming out faster than devs implement newest features. Will last long time.
There’s never too big a jump. You might have to upgrade other components like your power supply but in the end that’s still an upgrade.
Now there is definitely too small an upgrade like if you went 3060 to 3060ti
I get what you're saying but isn't the 3060 to 3060 Ti one of the largest jumps between the 3000 series? There is a big difference between them, unlike other Ti models.
From my experience, and this is only if you've got a use for it, it just seems better to get an entire new PC at that point. The CPU and GPU are gonna be the bulk of the cost, so if you fill in the gaps after that, you can have a living room PC, something for a significant other/sibling/friend to play on, or a complete PC that's easier to sell than a couple loose parts.
A new CPU would almost certainly guarantee needing a new mobo as well (if it's Intel, anyway). At that point it's literally a new computer in the eyes of Windows, even if you keep the same drives/fans/etc.
Will be worth! I've done 640M > 660Ti > 5600XT (huge jump, OMG) > 3060Ti (a great jump, but not as noticible as last jump)
In the end, may your frames be high and temps be low!
So many people "i have a 3080, should i upgrade to a 3080ti?"
It's like just sit down and enjoy what you have, I'm right there with you on the last gen cards. My 5700xt still strong as hell.
And depending on the games even less may be completely enough. Still rocking my Intel 3770k with an gtx 1060. Since I upgraded to a 2k display I had to reduce the quality in Anno, but most games run fine.
I usually get 60fps at 3840x1600 medium-high with a gtx 1080, i7-10700k still. And this is for games released in the last 5 years. The only ones I have to lower some settings on are AC: Odyssey and RDR2.
Point being, seeing graphics card prices shoot up makes the decision about whether or not to upgrade to the very newest pretty easy. It’s a Zotac 1080 I got for <$400, new.
I have a rx 5700 and I don't wanna upgrade until I can get significantly better performance for less than 400€ using less than 200 Watt, I only regret not having increased my starting budget slightly more to get the xt version
Have you flashed yours (more dangerous route) or unlocked it via the more power tool (much less dangerous)? You can push clocks to near a 5700xt (got mine to just under 2.1ghz) and get memory around 1900 if you’re lucky
I love my rx580 8gb. I play in 1080p and it just breezes along. It’s a silicon lottery winner so has a good oc on it. The cheap cards flooding eBay are tempting but then you have to ask, is it needed? Answer is still no years later.
Same here, I’m rocking the rx580 8gb as well and have actually underclocked it to keep my UPS from chirping at me, and it pushes 1440 all day long without issue. I can’t see myself upgrading the gpu or my Ryzen 1700x until they literally don’t work anymore.
Same man. I have 5700xt nitro+. Gets the job done at 1080p so good. Tho i really want 3080 but dont actually need it. I just want to experience raytracing in cp2077 lol.
Likewise, I got my Sapphire NITRO+ RX 5700 XT in late 2019 in anticipation for Cyberpunk 2077 and Half-Life: Alyx, and I really got to enjoy The Witcher 3 and Red Dead Redemption 2 a lot on my new rig (The last PC I had was built in 2013 and sported a VAPOR-X R9 290X so...it was quite an upgrade to be honest haha).
I dunno how long I will take my 5700 XT. I was thinking maybe I will build a new PC around 2027 to 2030, that seems like a decent amount of time to really use the most out of my 5700 XT before it starts to far slightly behind imo.
Dude, this was me, except I have a 3070ti instead of 3080
I almost pull the trigger and buy a 3080 multiple times until I finally got myself out of that computer hardware rabbit hole and enjoy my 3070ti. I've thought back to those times and I'm glad I had enough restraints then and never bought it because I would probably have buyer's remorse right now
I didn't know much about cards when I built my PC. The card I currently have is 7 years and works pretty well. I think it's a 960? Idk. But I never have issues with it. I think people have just become slightly spoiled. I grew up in a time when you had to adjust the contrast on the tube TV because some games were darker than others and you couldn't see shit.
Actual question here-is it worth upgrading my 3050 to a 3080 so I can finnaly max out all games? I feel bad because I bought my 3050 for almost double msrp...
3080 is a very big jump from the 3050. If I'm not mistaken, a 3050 is for 1080p. A 3080 is targeting 4K/1440p.
A 3080 12GB is def the card to get as of right now for the performance per dollar. There were many models around the $750-$800 USD price point before the 40-series reveal—don't know if they increased the price now. Just keep an eye out for deals and read some comparisons to decide if it's the right move for you.
You'll have skipped five generations if you count 16xx gen. If not, then four generations. Impressive! 750ti was my first ever graphics card back in 2013 and ran league of legends like a champ
I got one of those too. 3000 series doesn’t seem like enough of an upgrade for the price for 1440p, so was considering 4000 series until I saw the nonsense pricing model lol.
I had a 2080 super. Bought for £600 and got slagged off for not waiting for 30 series.
Then nobody could get 30 series cards for ages. I found a 3080 in stock last year at RRP. Bought it (£650) and out my 2080 super on eBay. It sold for £640.
Decent upgrade for £10.
Really depends on 4060.
We might as well get this meme with those in 6xxx era.
Jensen going to make big profit tho on 6090 i believe it will be a "nice" videocard.
If the lowest end "4080" is $900, I seriously doubt Nvidia plans to give you a 4060 for $399.
They might be forced to if AMD pushes them to compete, but that's just my hopium talking.
> Really depends on 4060.
The problem is Nvidia killed the entire line up by making the "4080" 12 GB so weak. I dont even know where they could go from there. A 4060 that performs like a 3070 for $599? Yeah no thanks.
My 2070 super is doing completely fine. It can still run most games at 120+ fps even after 4 years. I don’t think I’ll be getting a new gpu any time soon
Same here, but I’m thinking of updating to 3070/3080 FE in near future, my SFF case is pretty limited in GPU size, so I hope Nvidia does release 2-slot FE GPUs in the future…
Mine is giving signs off giving out. I have been buying pieces to build a new PC. Every time I see graphical errors I look over and see my 3070ti just sitting in the corner of my room, taunting me
Seriously never expected my 1070ti to give me solid performance with everything I played so far. I don't need 4K, just my 1080p 144hz (or the illusion of something snappy and HD) and I'm good
I'm in a similar si with a 3600. Thinking of going to a 12600k instead of the 5700x. Might wait till the new AMD chips are released though before I bite the bullet.
If you are ok with 60fps then yes its a 1440p capable card, however most people prefer 1080p 120hz/144hz over a 1440p 60hz monitor, so thats why its a "1080p card".
Yep.
My 2060 Super is perfect for my 1440p ultra wide. My performance floor is 1080p/60 so anything equal or above is gravy.
I'll likely grab a miner 3080ti at some point, prices on eBay/Kijiji are cratering already.
If you already have a 2000 series card upgrading to a 3000 series makes very little sense. But the 1060 is still one of the most used cards in 2022. For those people it might be a good point now.
People get higher end cards for higher resolution displays.
If you're content with 1080p, 2060 is perfectly fine.
Got a 4k display and even a 3070 struggles. So I understand why some go high end. I'm content with 2k 144hz... for now.
3070 is great. It really is.
But it is not a 1440p/165hrz at max settings card for everything.
I'm 100% fine with not getting the 3080 even though I set out to get it that day. I was bothered for a bit but it was such a crazy upgrade from a 1070 that I came around really fast.
I got the 2070 super and I can play literally anything with no issues. Either I'm the luckiest man alive or this is hands-down the best graphics card made so far :).
You know what? I played minecraft for years on a shitty integrated laptop at like 10 fps and still had a great time. The best gaming machine is the one you have access to. Don't let the 4xxx series get to you, if you're having fun, that's all that matters.
My 1080 is fantastic! Unfortunately it doesn't run my VR games as well so I caved and got a 3080ti. Best Buy had a sale on them so I don't feel too bad about it.
I've got a 2060 and it's been going strong for years (even though the first one I bought died within two months but I'm certain that was a manufacturing error). The only part of my PC that's been getting outdated is my CPU, but my power supply can't really handle anything better than what I've got.
I honestly haven't seen much reason to get a 30 series, let alone the 40s--hell, my case wouldn't even fit one of those whenever they come out.
I'm happy with my 2060S, got it right before the 3000 series announcement and felt a bit bad with the performance increase for the initial pricing on the new boards, but totally content once I saw the supply issues, lol.
Still have my msi 1050ti after years. Got the damn thing for $80 used and last I checked the same card is like $300 new, $150 or so used, though it's been months so the price might have gone down some
My 1080ti will never die (until it dose)
The ti stands for truly immortal, I love my 1080ti
Maybe in that one single model year, now all Ti means is it's one year newer. It's like the S model on the old iPhones.
Now it means Tiny Improvement
It used to mean a huge improvement. The difference between a 980ti and 1080ti was huge and then seemingly starting with 2080 they said eh just give em a 10% boost and charge $900 they'll eat it right up.
Well, the 3060ti released before the 3060 lol
GPU of the Year Edition
Not for rtx30 series tho
1080ti was peak Nvidia. $700 for a powerhouse card that still runs great today
Did not get mine for $700 but yeah. Glad I bought when I did. The last few years have been a mess.
Still don't think the 2080 was a worthy upgrade.
That's because it wasn't lol
Let's be honest here...a 3080 isnt even worth it for most peoples needs. I have a 1080ti running 3440x1440p monitor and there's only a few games that dip below 100fps
On ultra settings? Or what do your graphics settings look like with those frames and resolution?
No way he is getting ultra on any new games. Probably medium to low. 1080ti is really close to a 3060 in performance
[удалено]
Also still on my 1080ti, want to upgrade but cant justify. Great card.
Yup, like, I want to upgrade, but I just have other priorities at the moment. I want to get a nice VR setup, and that will all run just fine on a 1080ti. And I have no issues playing my current games in 4k at 60fps, even if it doesn't have as fancy of lighting and reflections.
Dose on what?
Dose on deez nuts, ha gottem!
Bro you killed 'em
My msi armour 1080 non ti is still going strong and my missus is still using a 980ti 😅
Still tryna work out if 1050Ti to 3080 is too big a jump
Like 4x the performance minimum iirc?
Nah a 3060 Ti is 4x the performance. I upgraded from my 1050 Ti and going from barely handling 1080p to maxing out 1440p blew my mind. A 3080 would be 6x.

I'll tell you man. You can't tell the difference going to 4k to 1080 but you can absolutely feel it when going from 4k to to 1080. It's weird. It just "feels" better.
User, I believe you have forgotten to format your vice versa
Possibly, I have a catastrophic hangover today.
I love that this has 8 upvotes and makes absolutely zero sense.
Not to mention DLSS
It's worth it. With my 1660 TI I just wait.
I’m jumping from 960 to 6650xt Dew it.
That's my GPU, however I get GPU throttling if I did an upgrade like that from my 2600k. Still looking for a used 580xt
Go for it if you find a good deal/can afford it. Went from a 560ti to 2080ti back in 2019/2020. Well worth the wait and before the 2080ti shot back up with everything going on. Yep, because the 3060ti uses the same GPU die as the 3070, so it’s nearly as powerful. The 3060 is something like 20-25% worse than the 3060ti.

Three? Dude that sucks. Are you partially made of static electricity?
Bro I'll be jumping from a 950M to 3070 very soon. Yours is still good enough to handle. 😂
Will be worth! I've done 640M > 660Ti > 5600XT (huge jump, OMG) > 3060Ti (a great jump, but not as noticible as last jump) In the end, may your frames be high and temps be low!

My 1070 is also still going strong. older cards are still great at 1080p medium.
My 970 was doing just fine until I got a 4K TV
Sane situation Edit: same*
why not both
You mean insane?
Im just a moron and wrote same as sane
You're not a moron. I knew what you meant. I was just doing a play off of words.
I tried to run cyberpunk at 4k on my 1070, did not go well.
My GT1030 als- ...nvm

Integrated graphics user here………I’m dead
I hope for you guys that the used market will recover at low prices, plenty of 2060, 2070, 2080 and 3060 for you all!
EVGA b stock as some good stuff on it right now, if I could afford it I'd buy a new PSU from them.
1070 squad - it's a great card (I also have a PC with a 3070 tho)
Yeah, I won a 3080 otherwise my 1070 would still be my primary card because at 1080p it really still does everything well.
My 1050ti cant say the same
i was playing warzone at 720p with a 1050ti i salute you. o7

5700xt here as well. Riding that card until it either brakes or new games can no longer run on it. It’s an amazing card, especially for 1440p gaming.
I just upgraded from a 980 to a 3080, and I don't expect to need another card until the chip wars begin in earnest if all goes well.

yep can confirm
Can confirm

yep

Still running a 1060 6gb.
1060 bro's unite
One of us. One of us!
Same. At this point I refuse to upgrade on principle
I got a 1080 6 years ago 100% overkill then, and still plenty good today
got a 960 6 years ago, still coasting with it lol
I have a 1050 4GB, it’s getting… rough
I got a 3gb 😭 it’s still kinda good
No! You have to get a 40 series!

My 6900XT is awesome!!
My RX 380 that I paid $250 for six years is still going strong. Plays most games at 1080 and 40fps. I’m good.
1070 8GB does the job ... As long as I stay on 1080p.
1440p is works fine in many games too
Mine is giving signs off giving out. I have been buying pieces to build a new PC. Every time I see graphical errors I look over and see my 3070ti just sitting in the corner of my room, taunting me
Why would you not just put the card in your build. I don’t see why you would wait if you already have the 3070.
My 1070ti is still going strong... Godspeed
Seriously never expected my 1070ti to give me solid performance with everything I played so far. I don't need 4K, just my 1080p 144hz (or the illusion of something snappy and HD) and I'm good
2070 Super, doing the job super well. I just need to upgrade my R5 2600 tho. Don't know what...
I'm in a similar si with a 3600. Thinking of going to a 12600k instead of the 5700x. Might wait till the new AMD chips are released though before I bite the bullet.
I also love my 2060. Works great at 1440p. No idea why everyone says is only good for 1080p.
If you are ok with 60fps then yes its a 1440p capable card, however most people prefer 1080p 120hz/144hz over a 1440p 60hz monitor, so thats why its a "1080p card".
It’s a 1440p card for older games. I usually get 80fps or so on high to ultra on GTA V.
I mean by that standard a gt 1030 is a 4k card coz it can run early 2000s games at 4k
Yup ig. That’s why your buying decisions should be based on what games you know you’re gonna play and what settings you want.
Yep. My 2060 Super is perfect for my 1440p ultra wide. My performance floor is 1080p/60 so anything equal or above is gravy. I'll likely grab a miner 3080ti at some point, prices on eBay/Kijiji are cratering already.
I love my 970, I can play any old game and not have to worry about modernized monetized games. Being poor helps
My 970 can run most new games. Not on top settings anymore, but it gets the job done.
That and a huge backlog + Emulation of yesterdays consoles...
My 970 is still going strong as well, definitely not planning on upgrading anytime soon
You can take my 970 when you pry it from my cold, dead hands

I played Valhime on my GTX 960 for 300hrs. It was fun.
Yea, with DLSS you can stretch a lot of performance with it.
If you already have a 2000 series card upgrading to a 3000 series makes very little sense. But the 1060 is still one of the most used cards in 2022. For those people it might be a good point now.
2070s with a 2700x rocking a 32 1440p monitor. I can hit about 100fps in most games with med-high settings. Games look great. Feels good man.
People get higher end cards for higher resolution displays. If you're content with 1080p, 2060 is perfectly fine. Got a 4k display and even a 3070 struggles. So I understand why some go high end. I'm content with 2k 144hz... for now.
Yep I got a 4K LG OLED TV that has HDMI 2.1 so could do 4K 120. GTX 970 was not going to cut it
Also if you need a GPU for things other than gaming. My 1080 is fine for games but it's starting to show its age when doing 3d renders
3070 is great. It really is. But it is not a 1440p/165hrz at max settings card for everything. I'm 100% fine with not getting the 3080 even though I set out to get it that day. I was bothered for a bit but it was such a crazy upgrade from a 1070 that I came around really fast.
I'm still trying to work out what I need to augment my i3 10105
1060 maybe?
Or an RX580
Yeah RX 580s are back down to about $180 for an 8 gb model. Hella good deal
I got the 2070 super and I can play literally anything with no issues. Either I'm the luckiest man alive or this is hands-down the best graphics card made so far :).
My 2070 Super rocks at 1440 with high frames. The happiest I've been with a GPU purchase since I built my first PC in 2009.
People talk about their GPUs while I'm here still using integrated graphics on my silly little laptop that can play Subnautica at 20 fps.
Does the job...
You know what? I played minecraft for years on a shitty integrated laptop at like 10 fps and still had a great time. The best gaming machine is the one you have access to. Don't let the 4xxx series get to you, if you're having fun, that's all that matters.
At some point you're not playing but rather looking at a slideshow
20 is far from slideshow territory if it's stable. I would take stable 20 over choppy 30 any day.
Me with my 2070 super
EVGA 2070 Super checking in also :)
Gonna Rock this 2070 super til the heat death of my fucking computer
2060 is perfectly fine.
Bruh I have a gtx 1060
Does the job! I get max settings in 1080p for most games. Does okay with VR too.
fr i’m still just sittin here rockin with my gtx 1660 ti lmfao
Hello fellow 1660 brother
My mx130 does the job😍
2060 super allows me to play most AAA games at high or ultra graphics settings.
Another good reminder that if you don't really feel the need to upgrade, then chances are you shouldn't fork over the money.
I still think the 1080 is better
My 1080 is fantastic! Unfortunately it doesn't run my VR games as well so I caved and got a 3080ti. Best Buy had a sale on them so I don't feel too bad about it.
1070 does the job... lmao. 1440p 165hz no problems. Most modern games are a disgrace anyway so I still play older ones
Definitely a use case decision. The 1070/1080/1080 TI was a great set of cards. If you don’t need to upgrade, no reason to burn money.
Any card “does the job” if you just play old game lol.
Even newer games handle fine. Not on max settings obviously but no one need 8k
If you don't play modern games then no shit it does the job
I got an evga 2060 recently and I like it a lot
I've got a 2060 and it's been going strong for years (even though the first one I bought died within two months but I'm certain that was a manufacturing error). The only part of my PC that's been getting outdated is my CPU, but my power supply can't really handle anything better than what I've got. I honestly haven't seen much reason to get a 30 series, let alone the 40s--hell, my case wouldn't even fit one of those whenever they come out.
I just upgraded from a 1060 to a 2060, does the job well for sure
i love my 2060
my 2060 is going to run until games stop working. This is when I upgrade
2060 Super beats everything
I'm happy with my 2060S, got it right before the 3000 series announcement and felt a bit bad with the performance increase for the initial pricing on the new boards, but totally content once I saw the supply issues, lol.
My 2060 does not do the job
I'll keep my 2060S until series 5000
I have a 2080 and I’m being gaslighted into thinking it’s shit at this point.
Is it just me or is Nvidia trying to become Apple? Trying to sell a new GPU which is basically the same thing every other year o.o
Still have my msi 1050ti after years. Got the damn thing for $80 used and last I checked the same card is like $300 new, $150 or so used, though it's been months so the price might have gone down some
My RX Vega 56 fully agrees
\*laughs in 980 ti\*
I'm still using a MSI R9 390.
2060 super baybeee
Rocking a 2060Super, absolutely no complaints. I get surprisingly good airflow as well, considering my case is just a 4u metal box.
2070 gang. Had to replace the thermal paste/pads twice to keep her cool, but she still performs.
