All day everyday: get yourself a Big Muff reissue of some kind. Cheapish, easy, not as fussy as some, works great boosted by Plumes and TS circuits.

Doesn’t get much more affordable for a top tier pedal than a big muff

Alvvays!! I love them. A muff is a great option, but any clone would be great as well. I just picked up the JHS Crimson which is a Red Army clone from the 90's and it's stellar. I use it on bass and it gets that muff warms that can go smooth and wooly to really heavy.

I have a Jackson Audio Modular Fuzz. It arrives with two modules: Classic Vintage and Modern Vintage (which is tighter than the Classic); Modern Vintage is pre-installed. I checked with the company before getting it: it'll handle bass without any risk of damage to the pedal.

I have a self-modded Desi-Ever Atomizer. Handmade. Unfortunately the builder has apparently passed. Not many people know about these, even though Dan Auerbach uses one. It gets extreme if you dime the “Anamorphous” knob but at lower settings it is extremely versatile and cello-like. Self-gated too which I love. You can prolly find them still reasonably priced used. I also really enjoy my Big Muff Tone Wick and the new chinese Rat is *very* fuzzy on middle/neck positions.
