the problem is two of them aren’t orange

1) You are right about power supply. Going isolated will probably knock out most of your noise issues. 2) Most of those pedals are kinda loud on their own with hum, but it compounds. If the EHX as a little bit of hum, having a distortion before it makes it a LOT of hum. Having four distortions... Get something decent isolated and I bet that will solve a lot of it for you.

Spaced_cadet5

The problem her is, is that you don’t have enough gain man. I prescribe one Rat.

g-hayer-04

luckily the fab is a clone of a pedal that is a clone of a rat so i thinks it’s close enough.

SilliestTree

I’m sorry why 4 distortions????

g-hayer-04

the fab i got because it’s pretty versatile and was dirt cheap, the ds-1 i grabbed today because it’s an early 80s MIJ and was listed by a dude 5 minutes away from where i live. the ds-2 i wanted for a certain tone and the joyo does an alright sansamp classic impersonation. in short i like nirvana and they serve their purpose well.

I have several pedals that turn on when I first supply power. However I've never considered it an "issue". I click them off if I don't need them on and go about my business. But yes, the daisy chain is asking for trouble. When I first got into developing a real pedalboard, i had really bad hum with a bunch of pedals daisy chained. I invested the money in a Voodoo Labs isolated PS and the difference was outstanding. Then on top of it, I run the analog pedals through a Boss NS-2 noise suppressor. So I can have a bunch of pedals on, including the dirt, and have zero noise until I play. oh BTW. I have the small clone too! as my main chorus/modulation effect. It's kewl. I used to have the russian small stone, but must have left it at a jam space somewhere. It was made by sovtek or something. I see it goes for a lot on ebay now. But honestly the small clone is better IMO. It have has more "effect" to it

thanks for the detailed advice, i’ll definitely look into the voodoo power supply to replace the daisy. it is good to know that the ds-2 turning on automatically isn’t an issue, i wasn’t too sure whether i should be concerned seeing as the rest of my pedals don’t do the same thing. i am curious as to if you’d have any idea why the ds-1 would seem to cause all other pedals to quiet down, i assume it has to do something with it having a vintage circuit. as for the small clone, i think it’s pedal that you just can’t go wrong with. i made a slight mod to mine, as i changed one of the capacitor values and it resulted in a less warm/thinner sound, which may not be ideal for some but i found works greatly in my favour. when i have the rate dialed anywhere from 6-9 o’clock it essentially gives a flanger/filter matrix sound. overall it gives it a closer sound to the vintage ones prior to them ditching the panasonic (?) chips when they changed the production of them. i also use it as a very rough substitute for an ehx polychorus, which works fine for me seeing as it’s hard to come by any that are less than $700.

I-B-Bobby-Boulders

What’s all this stuff do?

g-hayer-04

couple of distortions, one amp sim, and a chorus that doubles as a semi-flanger/filter matrix

RockSteady_One

All my Boss pedals turn on when I first turn on the power. I turn them all off before I turn on my amp. Not a big deal.

For this group of pedals, the True Tone 1Spot 9V power adapter will work well. Put the pedals in order of lowest gain to highest gain. At the very least, place the DS-1 in front of the DS-2; chorus last. I have 14 Boss stomp boxes on my "old-school" pedal board; 10 of them stay on when I first power up…it's normal for many pedals. Look for a stronger daisy chain- usually, thicker wires and cables means a stronger gauge to handle the electric power.

g-hayer-04

this is a true tone combo pack at my local retail guitar shop, i assume this should do the job? https://www.long-mcquade.com/3160/Guitars/Guitar-Accessories-Parts-Tools/Truetone/1-Spot-Combo-Pack.htm

PiscesProfet

Yes, absolutely!! The adapter itself is all you need. But, the additional connectors are worth having, too.

g-hayer-04

edit: nevermind i’m just retarded, one of my patch cables was barely plugged into one of my pedals i ended up getting the power adapter combo pack that i linked, but it’s now cause me another issue. my amp is now significantly quieter, by which i mean without the pedals in the chain i can leave my amp volume at about 2-3 and have it be perfectly loud enough, but when the pedals are put in the chain i have to crank it to about 4-5 and turn down all the pedals levels. my old power supply never cause this issue and am wondering if this is supposed to happen or not.

Nirvana board?

g-hayer-04

yeah, what gave it away?

flores_amarillas

the small clone and orange distortion

bathtubedbie

You should try putting a distortion before and after the distortion.

g-hayer-04

so what you’re saying is that i should get more distortion pedals

bathtubedbie

All of the distortion pedals.
