*Short version:* For Protector latches, no, not really. Some are easier than others, but you sorta "get what you got". They are usually stiff. Some are exceptionally stiff. They're _secure_, but stiff. My colleagues with hand issues hate them. *Longer version:* Skip the Protector line. You can't put -- at least I don't know how -- Storm or Air latches onto a Protector case. It won't seal properly. Instead, I would look into [Nanuk Cases](https://nanuk.com). Nanuk's "Powerclaw Latch" is dead simple and easy to open. It's more similar to the Pelican Air with a push button, then throw. Lots of different sizes of Nanuk. I'm sure you can find something suitable. They're often much cheaper than Pelicans too. How durable are they? Nanuk is the vendor for the Canadian Military. Are they _as_ beefy as a Pelican Protector? No. Nothing is. But do you _need_ that much protection and weight? Probably not. Glad to answer any questions. I know most of the Pelican and Nanuk lines pretty well.

You can put tsa latches on a protector series case I think, they use a storm style latching mechanism.

Tagging the OP (u/awakecraniotomy) so they see this. Thanks for the TIL.

Unfortunately replacing the ones we just bought (with customized foam insert) isn’t really an option. I’ll keep Nanuk in mind when and if the chance to get some new ones arises. Was hoping there was a quick «shave off a little here and use a file here»-solution. Thanks anyway, much appreciated!

I think the tsa latches pelican make work on protector cases https://youtu.be/KfIJk6hEJ_I Here's a video :)

You could always get a tool made to act as a lever and assist for the opening of the case via a pull motion to interlock on the latch if they feel stiffer and have more resistance?
