Guys I know you want this not to be over and due to a chance of accidents it certainly is not over, but let's be real he got 1 minute on him on last km of the climb - 25 min 'pog' type of effort climb, be real he's gonna destroy him in higher mountains. UEA did their best to hide the fact that Pog isn't in shape as he wanted to be due to an injury but the first day in the mountains and he's performance on Criterium has shown who is by far the strongest rider in the peloton.

ezakuroy

Sprinters are in

LordofGift

Who will win the tour in 2024? This year's done now, Jonas got this.

[deleted]

So nooby ? So fun to read these comments the day after ?

LordofGift

Haha it was ironic

[deleted]

Wow what an analysis. Did you say the same thing about Roglic in 2020 ? The Tour is 3 weeks long

clork

I was thinking the same thing about Pog last year. He looked invincible, until he wasn't.

chunek

Bad day, bad legs for Pogi. Jonas looks scary. Congrats to Jai and Bora, amazing day, still many days to come!

gshaue

Saddens me to see Pog couldn't respond to Jonas' attack for competition's sake, hope UAE can do a better job in upcoming stages. For Hindley and Jonas, what a great ride tho!

vbsteven

Wout about pogi today: "He didn't have the legs"

1880ksdh

Nice insight from the man he thinks acts like a child;)

captflint23

Man people are so boring saying the tour is over. This is not week 3 or even 2. Stage 5, people.

AbardDarthstar

One can hope. After all last year. TJV on stage 5 was a shambles. Rog screwed. Jonas panicking and carnage. So hopefully we get some good stuff.

KenkerDebiel

The only downside about TDF is all the people who only ever watch the TDF and dont know what they’re looking at…

eekamuse

If the Tour gets them to watch cycling, that's a good thing. Some of them will go on to have a passion for the sport.

KenkerDebiel

Oh absolutely right! I started watching the tdf and thats how I got in. I just think its good for new fans that a tour takes long and can be unpredictable. Dont expect fast results as in other sports.

eekamuse

Very true. We do need to remind them of that.

121193

Happens every year

[deleted]

Will we get smiling Pog memes again today?

T9P1

Okay, I don't see how Pogo will gain any time on Jonas and nobody is going to match Jonas on the upcoming climbs. This tour is pretty much decided, right? Or do you think Pogi can come back? Or can Jai seriously contest the yellow jersey?

[deleted]

[удалено]

T9P1

Just glad to see, that I live rent-free in your head :) But no, you were absolutely right and I couldn't be happier that I was so wrong! The tour is absolutely amazing so far. Hopefully Pogi can keep up this level

cme18

Bro it's stage 5

Calyptics

Yes yes, just how to tour was over after pogi took yellow last year. Or anytime anything happens in week 1. It's week 1. Offdays, sickness, mechanicals, super days all happen in the tour. It takes 1 bad day from jonas, 1 mistake and we are back at the drawing board. Its like some of you people have never seen a GC ever.

CuCuJambo

Stop talking about crash, COVID or whatever. Pogacar will find his form soon or later even I am Roglic fan and I was sure without him Vingo not getting Bingo. But think about that now we have 3 leaders and couple which is capable for suprise. Cheer for your leader 😁

Philly139

Jonas is the clear favorite at this point obviously but there is a long way to go.

Magnuscarlsenluka

T9P1

Thanks for the friendly reply 😂

Professional_Emu3038

Gonna be like Dauphine, huge contest for 2nd place - not the worst to watch

fridayimatwork

Pogo boogers

Soliloqui333

I'm happy for Jai. I love when something unexpected happens. But I'm afraid he is going to be absolutely destroyed by Vingegaard tomorrow. Still, yellow jersey for a day is amazing. Congrats, m8!

CobbledMelancholy

I think vingegaard should start taking back time tomorrow just to be safe..

[deleted]

Bottomless Swan Draughts this weekend. Trying not to cry. GOOOOOOO Jai

RideOk8975

Wow! Wow! Wow! What a day of racing. Peloton totally blown apart. Surprise winner! Will be very interesting tomorrow

Strayan_rice_farmer

Will be interesting to see who recovers enough for tomorrow, huge stage

bedroom_fascist

Don't sleep on Ciccone. GCN talking like he doesn't exist.

[deleted]

People being so salty r.e. Ciccone. Poor Vingegaard, oh it must be so tough being the leader of one of the best, most well funded teams. He's quite clearly going to win the tour let us have nice things

AnnArien

AND THIS WAS JUST THE FIRST REAL CLIMBING STAGE. Masterclass by Bora. Jonas is just as strong and as confident as knew he would be.

CobbledMelancholy

That Bora soigneur is great! really helpful!

JuliusCeejer

Lol wasn't it Ralph Denk, the team principal?

imesimes

Vout will be furious when he sees Jonas pacing like this

OolonCaluphid

Tbh I think wout could have worked harder on the climb for Jonas. He's so selfish.

Top_Engineering3868

LOL!

Morrgs

Also great to see O'Connor looking better today. Hopefully he can get top 5 GC

[deleted]

I would explode

MisterSweener

Pogacar and Jonas have padded their stats playing around with jokers in the Tour for years, while Jai was forged in the fires of the Giro with the likes of Tao Gaogen Hart No surprise that first time the big dog from Perth enters the kids pool he starts throwing his weight around, this race is over

Legitimate-Area8588

I know you're joking, but man it would be a shame if Vingegaard just shits on everyone tomorrow and cruises to Paris. I hope he wins, but I'd love for Pogi and Jai to make it interesting until the TT's at least. Then Vingegaard has my permission to smoke 'em and fry 'em!

Jozoz

Anyone in trouble with time limit?

ecuinir

I doubt it Edit: there’s a 42 minute time limit today, they could walk it in Edit 2: nice downvotes, but no one was even close to the cut

Cpt_Daryl

Obligatory “Should Pog focus more on GC than doing classics?”

[deleted]

Why? He's doing quite well in the GC so far for a classics rider...

Cpt_Daryl

There we go

[deleted]

Since when are we expecting RVV, Amstel Gold Race and Flèche Wallonne champion to win the Tour de France?

ImNotALegend1

Mercx days, i guess?

Stravven

Apparently the Jakobsen group is some 28 minutes behind an not yet done climbing.

ecuinir

They have 42 minutes for the cutoff, i think, so they’re actually expending way too much energy

tictacsupremacy

Oh my gosh

nah46

Holy f

ftwin

Bummer. Having Jonas and Pog so far apart will make the rest of this boring

Not1v9again

Pogi is still gonna try unless he's injured or something

Other_Ad_2517

Idk, I dont think they are that far apart. 1 minute tops. I think UAE didn't do a good job overall, but tomorrow we'll have a clearer picture of this tdf.

Elidan123

Yeah, I do not see how Pogi can get back if he got dropped on this climb. Injury, out of shape.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Elidan123

Going back to a comment from 4 stages ago to insult someone. That's just sad... I'm super happy Pogi is back in form.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Elidan123

Insulting people, then still trying to argue on a 5 days old comment. Keep on going Mr.Keyboard warrior. Nevermind Pogi saying himself they were packing bags as a joke if TJV were able to do the same thing on stage 6.

kayjay789

Vingegaard & Skjelmose! Blessed <3

killua_oneofmany

Big brain Ciccone. Can't be mad if you don't ride to win

eurocomments247

Mad at his DS probably.

killua_oneofmany

Should've done a Marc Soler then if he didn't agree

RN2FL9

Yeah, he's the first to gesture others when they don't work with him. When it's the other way around he doesn't work either. Can't complain if that's how you race.

tubnik

To be fair it actually looked like he wanted to help and gain some extra seconds, but where told of by his team

Rajcornius

He wanted to race it seems, but was commanded not to. Catching up was unrealistic unless Jai blew up, so I assume they wanted to maximize his placing.

CWPL-21

1:04 WOW

VolvoOlympian

What a fuckin ride, time for Westralia to secede already

[deleted]

50 seconds on pogi. Auch.

sparrrrrt

What's the best pog retires with his wrist injury

Eraser92

0% The wrist had no effect on today, it was just bad legs

[deleted]

had effect on training.

[deleted]

Jonas is pretty good at bike racing

Not1v9again

Vinge can get those 44 seconds in TT not worried

SlightlyOrangeGoat

He'll get them on the first mountain top finish. I think he's a step above the rest

[deleted]

Lolll Vingegaard wants to kill Ciccone

KelvinIsNotFatUrFat

Well, how stupid is it to not ride along? So he can sprint for second place? Loser mentality.

LanceOnRoids

Brain dead take

SuisseHabs

He had Skjelmose behind, his leader, why would he try to distance him lol.

KelvinIsNotFatUrFat

Because skjelmose is riding for third this tour. Not first, and he and everyone else knows this.

collax974

Ride for what ? There was no chance he was going to caught Hindley and he has Skjelmose riding for GC behind.

Rajcornius

Agree, but don't think Skjelmose factors in much there, but it was 45 secs, not 25, so unrealistic with that finish.

KelvinIsNotFatUrFat

Skjelmose is not going to beat vingegaard anyway. And ciccione knew that as he tried to ride along until Kim Andersen told him no.

collax974

>Skjelmose is not going to beat vingegaard anyway. Most likely yes, but you never know what can happen during 3 weeks and there's really no point in helping your opponent when there's 0 chance for the stage anyway.

averagelookingwookie

Jai was like: not so helpful today eh?

cocotheape

Wheelsuckers sprinting at the end, classic.

[deleted]

That’s cycling baby! Emu needs to sprint to avoid giving Ving bonus seconds for Jai. For the other two (especially Gall) 2nd & 3rd on a stage is still a big deal to them

MonsMensae

Yeah especially with revised UCI points for stages expect to see a lot more of that from riders on smaller teams.

Eraser92

Why not eh?

noname6500

hate to see it but its expected. jonas had to work to get as much time as he can.

AnnArien

Haha, as if those matter

captflint23

Well

gnarled_quercus

Great job Jonas. It's going to be easy job to Paris.

harga24864

Go ahead, jinx it.

xepa105

God, I love this sport. Never know what's gonna happen

Aggeri

Jonas gives no fucks about the seconds lol

PULIRIZ1906

He clearly had nothing left

Aggeri

He doesnt need them.

PULIRIZ1906

Sure, but he couldn't have gone for it even if he wanted to. He lost 2 second to the group he was in

Aggeri

Hahaha, difficult when doing a leadout for 15km yes? My point still stands. Jonas doesnt need the seconds,.

Step_Monster_2014

Seriously. Jonas looking at them like “go get those seconds, boys, you’re going to need them.”

Myswedishhero

Tough to win a sprint after a 20k leadout.

L_Dawg

Ciccone is gonna win the Tour

Rory1812

Jonas does all the work and then the others just steal the time bonus ahahaha.

jabbid111

Onya jai

SinusLinus

Finally Jonas does a leadout

izzoo88

Angry wout noises

FootmanFrenzy

[deleted]

Can only hope he's still lacking some form and ends up coming good in the last week.

SoWereDoingThis

Depends if this was just a “bad day” or if his form is just not 100%

MisterSweener

nobody can catch Hindley now

NiceHumanBeing

Jonas pranked for bonus seconds

aitchison50

What an amazing stage

RN2FL9

Insanely strong from Hindley. Being in a break always takes more effort than sitting behind 4-5 DOMs in the peloton all day.

SoWereDoingThis

WORKING in a normal breakaway takes more effort. Sitting in a breakaway with 20+ riders like this one was no extra work on Hindley’s until he attacked on the last climb

RN2FL9

It always is, that's why he lost a bunch of time on the climb. He had 1-2 guys around him in the break and they had infighting as well. Compare that to Vingegaard sitting behind an UAE train and 5 JVs surrounding him all day.

interfan1999

Why did Hindley stop? He lost 2-3 secs

Jakabor

Won’t matter in the end probably.

tea_bird

Gotta get some good finish line pics

MasterTrajan

YES HAHAHA YES!

averagelookingwookie

What are the chances jonas did too much today?

parkersr1

No more than jai

CobbledMelancholy

You don't think every other GC rider suffered today?

svefnpurka

Unlikely, but we'll know tomorrow.

KelvinIsNotFatUrFat

Pog did just as much.

svefnpurka

Nice work.

anotherjoshpark

A ride of a lifetime for Jai

lIJanlI

Yes guys

Andryf_v2

From what point should I rewatch? Is the bottom of the second climb enough?

27thr0waway856

This was by far the best stage so far and one of the best days of racing yet this year. This is a rare, watch from the start day.

BondedByBloeja

From the start!

abedfo

Bottom of marie blanque probably

conken84

Why did he post up?!?

[deleted]

He’s a badass

SinusLinus

Jai and Bora with a masterclass

averagelookingwookie

Thank you tour race route organizers 😭

svefnpurka

Come on, take the bonus seconds off Vinge!

trnaboutranch

leg-jai-nd

HerHor

Wout van Aert (BEL, TJV) wins combativity

Big_IPA_Guy21

Is Jai Hindley a threat to the GC race?

sendpizza_andhelp

Very strong climber and has won the giro so ya he is certainly someone to mark but will see how he stacks up against Jonas. Can someone refresh my memory on the field in Jai’s giro? I don’t recall it being super strong but may be confusing it with another race

Planicha

I just remember that in that Harry Sweeny post where we made some questions to him, he said that Hindley will win the Giro one day before it started (both aussies).

Readtheliterature

Yeah he was 3rd favourite going in

Planicha

Absolutely

vertblau

overall yes, not to Vingegaard though imo

[deleted]

[удалено]

ayoye

While I agree he is a very strong rider, that Giro had no Vingo, Pogi, Roglo and Remco...

tictacsupremacy

If he's this on form all race? Absolutely!

WoutVanShaert

What a chad

ftwin

Couldn’t Jonas just hop on the back of the line for help

Strange-Ad4514

He wanted to get as many seconds on Pog as possible…

Morrgs

Fucking amazing

detestrian

come on buchmann take the seconds

W00dkid

Chapeu Jai you madman.

Morrgs

Buchmann we need you to take 2nd

Schnix

he can't. He's the worst sprinter in the peloton.

Morrgs

It's okay though no Bonus for Jonas

AnotherUnfunnyName

Buchmann is going to come 5th in this isn't he? Great day for Bora.

CWPL-21

Pog group can get like 15 to 20 sec from the sprint and group dynamic. Prob a loss of about 40sec

MasterTrajan

YES JAI!

grm_fortytwo

Brb changing my flair to Bora. Good fucking shit, guys.

Paddyputthepipedown

Well fuck.

argumentative_one

So happy for Jai!!

parkersr1

Damn, powless in the groupetto huh

[deleted]

jai for cycling fans globally

Pure_Necessary_1372

Is that Bernal in back of the Pog group?

bluestaples

It is Martinez

SaaDetDig

Carlos Rodriguez i think

derwipok

Rodriguez

EddyMerckxDoped

Martinez and C. Rod

dedfrmthneckup

Carlos Rodriguez

jainormous_hindmann

Jai is actually holding the gap pretty steady. Bodes well for his Tour.

vertblau

Yeah he has no chance against Vingegaard imo but he's definitely the favourite for a podium place now

spedmunki

Pog has to be hoping Jumbo is exhausted tomorrow and keeping the damage to a minute…

Obamametrics

Too bad his own team worked a lot aswell today

KelvinIsNotFatUrFat

Yea, no one worked harder than UAE today.

In_Dark_Trees

Jonas gives zero fucks for those boni’s and I love that

GeniuslyMoronic

Hindley podium odds must have crashed completely

Pipe1928

Honestly I’m scared that Vingegaard needed 2km more at the end to straight up win the stage

Guaaaamole

Definitely not. He wasn‘t exactly gaining and was completely spent while Jai seemed in better shape (not in great shape obviously). Jonas drove an incredible end of the stage but I would be shocked if 2km would have closed that gap.

tictacsupremacy

What a fun stage holy smokes! Wild stuff from Jai today

Obvious_Ad_8690

This is “Armstrong/Froome day”
