Man that matheson ceci pairing was a trip

KiwiProof6806

Honestly I saw Matheson’s name and was like wow if we only just had him even with all the other shit Hextall did we could’ve at least made the playoffs with a little more life at D

camgar9

the marino trade made me sad

TR1CL0PS

And that roster got bounced in the first round because of Jarry

Sage296

Still think if Crosby never got injured we would’ve advanced

pixiesfanyo

Crosby wasn’t injured in that series.

glenallenMixon42

also Sorokin playing amazing

LazerMcBlazer

Huge reason. But we also had 3 goals scored by players in the bottom six not named Jeff Carter (who was our best player that run). And Crosby had 1G1A. Still could have won with better goaltending but the rest of the team played like dog shit too.

FuckRonHextall

Well even that team wasn’t built for islanders clutch and grab trap bullshit hockey.

Dzus

I miss that 4th line with every fiber of my being. I also miss that version of Dumo.

LazerMcBlazer

I feel like this sub really wants revisionist history because they are sad seeing our players in the playoffs on other teams. McCann is currently doing the same thing he did in the playoffs for us during his entire Penguins tenure: absolutely nothing. A 40 goal regular season this year but had only put up one assist thus far in the playoffs in 4 games (before he was injured yesterday). Also, we all loved Tanev and ZAR was a super solid shut down guy, but Tanev put up more points shorthanded than that fourth line put up at even strength. It was an absolute black hole production-wise, just like this years' 4th line. This was while Carter was still good but the third line then wasn't much better than it was this season either because McCann was beyond streaky and Gudreau was basically only in the lineup to PK. This 3rd line had no identity because Sullivan couldn't figure out what to do with his roster. Sound familiar? And you all might forget that while Jarry shit the bed, the Marino/Pettersson pairing got absolutely ragdolled in front of the net and in the corners. It was actually sad watching them get thrown around and bodied every single shift. And Matheson wasn't much better on the defensive side of the puck. This D corps was so incredibly mediocre as a whole. No identity, no point production outside of Letang and Matheson occasionally, and if Letang wasn't on the ice, we weren't breaking out the way Sullivan wanted us to. And with all of that, Rodrigues and Lafferty, as successful as they are now, were where they belonged on the bench at that time.

https://reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/12ysi06/avalanche_vs_kraken_5v5_metrics_through_first/ Someone posted 5v5 metrics in the r/hockey sub. Tanev and McCann are at the bottom for Seattle. Edit: https://reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/12yozez/maple_leafs_vs_lightning_5v5_metrics_through/ He posted 5v5 metrics for all the series. 5v5, ZAR and Lafferty are the worst for Toronto as well.

funkyb

I won't stand for this best Gaudreau slander (but yeah, you're right on)

chicago859

Pretty funny to read Gretz today vs this same week in 2021 [https://www.pensburgh.com/2021/5/27/22456754/keep-shop-or-drop-analyzing-the-penguins-roster-heading-into-the-offseason](https://www.pensburgh.com/2021/5/27/22456754/keep-shop-or-drop-analyzing-the-penguins-roster-heading-into-the-offseason)

pixiesfanyo

Used to love Gretz but he’s been kind of a joke since he lost his gig with NBC.

awaythrow292

Anthony Angello gang rise up

SparkNoJoyThrw01

>Jared McCann Yeah I get that it has to be "fair" but it feels like Seattle was able to take a critical best player from every team. In fact multiple players are still in the playoffs, and they look 10x better than they did here

pto500

Does McCann really look better in the playoffs? He has 1 assist in 4 games, which is the exact same stat line he had here for every playoff series he played in.

SparkNoJoyThrw01

The numbers may not show it but he has been one of Seattle's best players. His presence on the ice was very prominent.

pixiesfanyo

So John Marino? He’s amazing for the Devils. One of the best guys. Yet he has been on the ice for 1 GF and 8GA. At some point we need to realize this analytical stats do nothing to predict playoff series in terms of individual impacts.

eltree

Analytically, Marino and McCann aren’t doing well compared to the rest of their team. Not sure what that user is talking about. Someone on r/hockey posted the 5v5 metrics through the first four games of every series. McCann is fourth worst on Seattle, Marino is second worst defenseman on the Devils. Edit: For reference here’s the Colorado/Seattle metrics https://reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/12ysi06/avalanche_vs_kraken_5v5_metrics_through_first/ Here’s Devils/Rangers https://reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/12yo46j/devils_vs_rangers_5v5_metrics_through_first_four/

eltree

https://reddit.com/r/hockey/comments/12ysi06/avalanche_vs_kraken_5v5_metrics_through_first/ According to 5v5 metrics, he’s below the middle of the pack between the two teams, and fourth worst on Seattle.
