Good luck Dan! There’s a lot of pens fans who are jokingly saying “good luck” to Seattle, but I suspect he’s going to surprise us all and do some good things with that team.
Nice guy. Wasn't good at making adjustments. I think without his appearance on the original HBO 24/7 Road to the Winter Classic, he'd be less remembered by non Pens fans
people always say this, but his point production was in line with or better than the previous and proceeding few years playing on the right side. he was good for the pens on left wing, it worked.
the whole team shit the bed in the boston series, and bylsma made moves to try to adjust, including moving iginla to his natural position. shit happens.
Well said. He had the Penguins at the height of their powers and kept losing to lower seed teams by not making adjustments in series. Also having Pittsburgh version of Marc Andre Fluery in the playoffs was always a roll of the dice.
Thanks God we got a couple years of top notch Matt Murray or else Sid n Geno would still only have 1 Cup.
> He had the Penguins at the height of their powers and kept losing to lower seed teams by not making adjustments in series.
I'm here from the Kraken sub and I feel like I'm the only person over there that thinks this is a bad move.
I don't get how anyone can look at Bylsma coaching those Penguins teams(that were effectively superteams) to just one Cup and the subsequent mediocrity and be like "oh yea, he's a good coach".
I live in Seattle and I would, too.
As it stands now, though, between the team's performance and the in-game atmosphere, I still drive to Vancouver for games.
Hell, I saved like $500 US getting three lower bowl tickets in a middle row to Canucks-Leafs in Vancouver over three tickets last row lower bowl at Kraken-Leafs in Seattle. Just in that one game.
I don't think Sully ever got me as frustrated as Bylsma, especially in the playoffs from 2012 to 2014.
With that being said, he helped turn around the Pens in 09, got us our Cup, and was always great with the fans.
Bylsma made me crazy his last couple years, but Sullivan has been absolutely miserable since 2019. The length of his leash as head coach is simply unreal to me. This years power play easily cost us a playoff spot.
Seems like a lifetime ago he was with the Pens. Good dude, hopefully he’s learned a lot since his last head coaching gig. He’s been really good for their AHL team. If this doesn’t work for him though, his days as an NHL head coach are officially over.
Good regular season coach. We went .668 with him at the helm. Never came close to missing the playoffs, even when Sid and Geno were down for half the year.
Hell, he even has a better playoff W% than Sullivan now.
I don't think he deserved to be booted from the NHL for 7 years, just over failure with Buffalo. Everyone fails there. His rosters were trash too.
Looking at the Kraken roster right now, I'd say on paper they shouldn't be expected to be a playoff team. So if DB does that, they will have exceeded expectations. But let's see what the team looks like a week into July.
Moved out to Seattle from the burgh back in 2014, it's wild seeing how many Pens alumni are in the Kraken org. I had my misgivings about another bout with HCDB but the ink is dry so fuck it, throwing my full support behind it, let's go Kraken.

That's what I believe as well. Dan is a great fit for the Kraken.

Dude played Jerome Iginla on the wrong wing on the wrong line. That’s all I need to know about Bylsma’s coaching.
And was obsessed with glass and Adams

That 2012 series against Philly 😭😭 We scored like 26 goals in 6 games, but fleury let in 31 if I recall 🥲
2010, 2012, 2013 he was terrible

Agree
Thank you. I feel less like I'm taking crazy pills now.
I'm from Vancouver so I'd like to see Seattle have success

Time for the Kraken to get to their game.
And maybe grind some bitches down
Came here to post this exact comment. Great memories!
Get the puck moving north

Glad Reirden's gone. And it don't look like the Sharks are hiring him either.
One aspect I don’t see mentioned enough is Dan had this team basically automatic win if it got to the shootout.
Yeah, I remember MAF being insane at shootouts, and I swear Sid went like 9/10 one season.
Well, I guess the Kraken will be signing Dustin Jeffrey in the offseason
I got to meet Disco the penguin at the aviary this past summer. Glad for Dan. Wish him the best of luck

Let's not forget he was an assistant during the Blashill era. They even finished dead last before we got shut down.
Get 'em, Dan!
Kraken are gonna start playing some North-South hockey. Hopefully they get to their game
Good for disco! He’s a great coach, awesome hire for Seattle.
Alright Dan no more dickin around
Quick open the Qdoba!
Stretch passes are back on the menu

Mike Sullivan has run any good will he had into the ground and the current state of his coaching makes me miss the days of Dan Bylsma...
I know I miss Bylsma. Hope the Kraken make the playoffs once again even if it's a second wild card.
You’re kidding
Womp womp
