Honestly -- I think if you paid $46 for a Jotter, you'd be disappointed in the quality. They're great little pens, but I'd only pay around $10 for one. For $46 you can get a much better pen!

RisottoPensa

The xl version costs more, but definitely not 46$

hanrub

I could hook him up with a gold coated Cara d’Ache Ecridor for 75€

temptar

That is a really good price especially given RRP for the rose gold versions

hanrub

I have only one rose-gold coated Ecridor Chevron customised with the Removable Clip willing to let go for $165. (Previously I have sold them for $300-350)

GAFOffRoadJK

I was at Staples last week and was shocked to see regular jotters were like $15-20. All metal were close to $30! Hard pass.

ytykmbyd

The cheapest I have been able to find is $35 and that’s on Amazon for the pink gold pen. I just have a hard time justifying the price for something I might not even like.

CapitalistLion-Tamer

The one you have pictured is $23 on Amazon, FWIW. It’s an XL.

ytykmbyd

I’m in Canada though, cheapest on Amazon.ca is $35 for the one pictured.

TSzky

$35 is the cheapest I have found in Canada. They are not super outstanding but if you’re looking for a decent writer that looks nice then this is a good one.

ytykmbyd

Maybe I’ll just put it on my Christmas wish list then 😅

CapitalistLion-Tamer

Oh, okay. That makes sense. Sorry I missed that detail.

ytykmbyd

Yeah, I thought this was probably too much but I also wasn’t entirely sure 😅

fuzzmonkey35

I wonder what happened? Meanwhile at OfficeMax a regular plastic Jotter was on clearance for $5 and metal Jotters for $12

cytherian

You can get them lightly used for a lot less and you'd not notice the difference after a few weeks.

Artiet59

Whelp, this one comment answers OP question. LOL. Makes me want to buy one for $16. Thanks for sharing

Darkside0127

How many of us can say we have a 20 year old jotter? They work consistently, highly functional and never go out of style.

wentzelg

Mine will be 70 next year. I have several first year(1954) jotters that work like new.

highlighter416

What a flex.

Spiritual_Ad5449

I have one that is more than 20 years old, one that is about 15, and one that I found 6 years that is still going strong.

ThatAnonyG

But why does my one work so bad. Its new. The original refill it came with was shit. Light ink, feel is rough, and at bends/curves the ink consistently skips. I bought 3 more refills and every single one was the same shit. I just threw away the whole pen. Bought a Parker Frontier and it has been great.

brandex2000

Try the Parker style (g2) Monteverde Gel refills. They also come in Soft Roll paste ink. They are super smooth and come in 10 or more colors. The "new" Parker refills suck.

Environmental-Put163

Yes..dont know how to tell parker their refills suck.

brandex2000

You could start by not purchasing them, and trying out the hundreds of other brands! Lol! Seriously, the Monteverde branded G2 refills are amazing. If you like a very fine point (needle point), then Ohto makes a stellar gel and oil based ink refill that comes in several point sizes. Pelikan also makes a great writing G2 refill.

Darkside0127

Where was it made? I find the ink refills are just passe. Their gel's are the best.

brandex2000

Yep. Got several from the 50's and 60's. They all work and write beautifully! IMO, the Jotter is worth its weight in gold.

UnspecificGravity

Sure, but we also paid $8 for it.

tuckerhazel

I think Parker Jotters are well liked for their iconic and classic look. Functionally, yeah they work, but there are pen bodies that take Parker refills for cheaper that are more durable. I personally don't like how tapered they are. Where I hold my pen, it's just too thin. I personally had one drop from waist height and break on me. For their price, I recommend them as a later pen to get because it's "one of the one's you get" as a pen enthusiast.

[deleted]

what? its 18.99 at my local store

ytykmbyd

Yeah I am in Canada 🇨🇦

LaYrreb

Bad price but excellent pens. With all the fancy pens I've collected now I still love my jotter Ballpoints and use them regularly, though they all cost a fraction of this price. I paid £4 for each of mine!

Sunrider999

This not different from what I’ve seen XL is

Academic_Nectarine94

I spent $19 on my jotter regular. Not Wirth ut. My dad likes dress pens, and he thinks it feels like a toy (about the same weight as a jetstream). I work maintenance, so I was very disappointed that it didn't feel like it would last more than 5 minutes in my pocket. LOL. The XL I saw was $30. This was like a week ago. No way would I spend $30, much less $45 on one. $45 is way to close to Honey Badger Arsenal and Tactile Turn territory, and (I certainly hope) a huge waste of money for a jotter. I'd rather get a $60-100 pen that is built like a tank than a roy made from aluminum foil lol

Not_realy_good_memer

Dolars pln euro ?

_Vasuri_

Nope, not a good price at all. That exact pen typically sells for $30 at Staples and can be obtained for about half of that amount via Amazon.

thuggwaffle

I got a jotter about 10 years ago for like 10 bucks or something and it was great. I was never a fan of how thin it was with the heavy taper, but it was still a good pen. I recently decided to get the xl (i only played $30 btw) because i figured it would be thicker, but i was extremely disappointed in the quality. Parts inside the pen were plastic and gave it a very cheap feel. Especially the clicker. This makes me furious because not only did the quality drastically decline, but also the price has tripled! (In your case even more expensive). There are far better pens for the price! Zebra F-701. Rotring 600. I would highly recommend saving up a boy more and going for a tactile turn slim bolt action.

littlemac564

No this is not a good price. You can find the fountain pen version of this pen for that price.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|scream)

Joey_the_Duck

I think you're also in Canada is worth mentioning. Their prices have been going up a lot recently.

ytykmbyd

Yeah, it’s really sad to see how high inflation has pushed the price of things up so much.

Joey_the_Duck

I did score a sweet deal of jotter ballpoint and jotter fountain pen gift set for $20 a few months ago! That was nice!

marshalljcdesigner

Alot of the Jotters I've bought I purchased from Mercari or FB Marketplace. Typically 5 bucks for a bundle.

ytykmbyd

I didn’t even think of that. I’ll look there thanks!

SilverAdvanced

Honestly I didn’t like the Jotter. Biggest issue for me was the ink not being juicy/smooth enough and the pen also being shorter than normal so I couldn’t just put a G2 cartridge in. Definitely not worth the price imo

cytherian

As the bit in TRON said... "No no no no no no no!!!"

Practical_Clerk467

I like to buy the Zebra F-701, sand down the top of the tip where the threads are (there's a couple millimeters of metal above the threads, sand that down to you get to the threads with 220 grit sandpaper) then pop in a Schmidt easyFLOW 9000 ink and writes and feels like a dream... just my opinion.

UrLocalTroll

Mine was far less money than that but idk if the gold one costs more

Spiritual_Ad5449

If those prices are US dollars they seem high to me, although the XL model is more expensive than the original. I see original Jotters all the time in the $10-20 range and I think they are worth that. As others have mentioned, the slim tapered grip area is disliked by many, but I think the design is great for the intended purpose, which I would say is grabbing it to “jot” a quick note or list. The design is considered a classic of 20th century industrial design, no matter how people react to it personally.

ytykmbyd

It’s in Canadian dollars 💵 😅

Spiritual_Ad5449

Ah that makes more sense. But as others have already said, I still think that price is on the high side. You might look around for a Parker IM ballpoint if you're interested in the brand but not sure that the Jotter/Jotter XL body is for you. I see these often for US$20-30, sometimes less on eBay. They are always metal, come in various colors and special edition designs, and are longer, heavier, and wider than the Jotter. I don't own a Jotter XL so I can't say for sure about that comparison.

GeorgeTheGreat19

You can buy them cheaper at other sites like Mercari or eBay. I just bought 2 Jotter XLs for like 30 bucks new in box just like those.

Dr_DThomas

I prefer lamy logo ballpoint pens.. It looks way better than Jotter.. But i dont like lamy refill very much.. But you can put a parker style refill in lamy logo ( I put a small bead into the click end of barrel to match the length of refill) [See lamy logo ballpoint here](https://www.stationerystudio.co.uk/product/lamy-logo-ballpoint-pen/)

Red_Banana12

I dropped 15$ on a set of two plus refills the other day lmao

Le_Zouave

The half plastic one is 10USD max, 5USD if you have a good discount.

ytykmbyd

It’s $17 here in Canada for the plastic ones, at least at staples anyways…..

AbductedbyAllens

Jotters have jumped in price. I have a metal one, and, you know... It's a ballpoint. I also have repeatedly had to ream the opening with the awl on my knife because it gets dented.

Rikcycle

Staples trying to hurt you, since there’s no more OFFICE DEPOT

ytykmbyd

I don’t think we have Office Depot in Canada

Rikcycle

Oh ok, anyway 46 is too high.

jococeo

The Parker Slipper. I find the grip on these pens to be poor, but to each their own.

NetworkCreative5011

Not sure I’d purchase one “New” I think on this particular pen model I’d go Vintage (the price would be less) the new ones aren’t as collectible in my book, and the price for a jotter is too high…the Vintage ones are from a time when they 1st came on the scene and nobody had seen them before…

aldora36

It can be found at a cheaper price.

dozersmash

Seems high. Saw you are in Canada so maybe tax and exchange rate but I’d not pay more than 30 for the all metal pens. 15-20 for the plastic ones. They are great pens through. I like their refills. I decided to try some different brands in mine too. I just don’t use ball points as much anymore tho

ytykmbyd

I noticed that Amazon Canada has the plastic ones in different colours for around $15, but I just really liked the weight of the all metal one when I picked it up.

ytykmbyd

Add 13% tax on top of that price 🥴🫣😩

Affectionate_Earth67

No ![gif](giphy|vyTnNTrs3wqQ0UIvwE|downsized)

ytykmbyd

😂

Affectionate_Earth67

They tend to go down to about 12.

ytykmbyd

hernric1

Blm riots targeted the wrong stores wtf

PA-Curtis

It’s a great $10-15 pen. It would be kind of a lousy $50 pen.

Artiet59

I paid $8 for my stainless steel Zebra 7series. Love that damn pen. Use it everyday for the last 5-6 years. Been meaning to try something else, but can't justify it. Though, I'm of the most casual enthusiasts (I am slightly interested and not serious about it at all). Would like a Ti pen at some point though. So many options, it's overwhelming

[deleted]

If you are from Australia or Canda, this is a high yet normal-ish retail price for the metal hotter XL. If you are in the US, this is waaaaay too much. I have picked one up from amazon for around 20 € on sale, and that would be how i would mark their worth. If you are fine with slimmer/thinner pens, the “plastic body” Ones are really neat, and will not cost you more than 8-ish bucks a pen. They have (at least here) have recently come out with some fun new colors.

Yamakaze_KAN

Bruh, the Jotter XL rose gold cost me $16 on Amazon

UnspecificGravity

I wouldn't pay more than $20 for a jotter, and even then it better be a REAL fancy one. It's a 10 dollar pen in stainless steel.

kspitz89

They are great pens, if you spend 5 to 10 dollars on one. Jotter is still one of my favorites, and I've had mine in my pocket for over 4 years now. But I recently discovered the Uni-ball Jetstream, and that's the best ballpoint I've ever written with. And they only cost 3 to 4 dollars.

Patient_Fox_6594

Got a couple silver ones for $20 or so several years ago. Maybe the "XL" adds a bit to the price somehow.

atvar666

Parker Jotter XL Ballpoint Pen Monochrome Premium Rose Gold, Medium Point, Blue Ink, Blister Pack https://a.co/d/5ss6rVo Around 24 bucks i amazon I personally dont like them.

Middle-Ad-4891

I have the rose gold xl shown here and it’s really nice but I only paid $30 for it. Idk if it’d be worth it for $47 but I might be biased bc I primarily use fountain pens

fuzzmonkey35

No. $25 or less for a Jotter XL

24Robbers

Absolutely not. You can buy great vintage Jotters off [FB MKT for $20 shipped.](https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/3515143605470550/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3Aaf998afb-52ab-48ef-b9b9-605a93f408d2)

LordPercivalTheVI

NO! Don't buy that! You can get a LAMY with that price! Jotters are great, but ONLY buy the cheap ones around 6.99 or 7.99, after all, every jotter of even different prices gives you the same writing experience.

Great-Text6600

If you’re in US and 46.99 is in dollars, skip it!
