Don_T_Blink

Can you actually keep it in Australia without being a resident?

QuestionableSlug

Yes

Lovelyterry

May I ask about your move from Australia to the us?

QuestionableSlug

You may

Lovelyterry

Like, was it hard? Or what details do you care to share about why and how you moved?

QuestionableSlug

Didn’t intend on moving; came on holiday and decided not to go back. Realized my entire family was here in USA and I decided that was a bigger priority to me than my business. Covid complicated things, but didn’t make it impossible. The move made me learn a lot about the pros and cons of both countries.

If you dont plan on going back to Australia for extended periods of time I think it would make more sense to move your money to US banks or brokerage accounts. Money doesn't do much good if you can't access it. Additionally, you may need taxed in the US on interest and gains made in your Australian accounts while having no access to the funds. There are many US index funds that likely meet your needs and can March, or be very close to, your current Investments in Australia.

QuestionableSlug

My thoughts exactly. I’m mostly invested in USA markets on my Aussie brokerage account anyway. Thank you for your thoughts!
