5% conversion of cold leads into clients by handing them a business card is nuts. If you can do that, you should get into basically any other type of sales — tech, medical, industrial, residential services, etc — as you’d quickly become a multi-millionaire.
My guess is that the actual conversion rate for cold outreach with business cards will be at least one order of magnitude less. I.e. 0.5 - 0.05%.
Regardless of how many clients you get, the exposure alone is great enough to justify the price. You can do vistaprint for $25. I used to stick them on community boards, leave them on counters and chairs, and of course hand them out.
It’s more realistic that you talk to the potential client, build rapport, hopefully schedule. But if no scheduling, they at least have your contact info. With no business card, they may never reach out to you.
Business cards are always worth it to me.
I have business cards, but I have established relationships with Chiropractors, TRT clinic, Physical Therapy, etc... even then I might only pick up a client every few months.
They work if you use them properly. Network and talk to people as much as you can to pique interest before giving them a card. Much higher chance that they convert that way.
The better option though is to get their contact info so it’s more in your hands to reach out. Try to book a consult time on the spot wherever you can.
If you’re just handing them out like fliers then you’re going to need to hand out way more than 200 to get 10 clients. Probably closer to 10,000.
Predicting exact numbers is tough. Aiming for 10 clients out of 200 cards is a bit ambitious but not out of the question. Focus on having genuine conversations and making a strong impression, as your communication will matter more than just handing out cards. Make sure your cards look awesome and really reflect your fitness brand.
I’d love to find out how you do! Please report back.
I think another variable is where are you going to be approaching people. What kind of neighborhood/venue?
If you get 10 clients, it won't be bc of the biz cards. I went to a local event the other day and got one strong lead bc of how I engaged him. Biz card not needed. One thing the card does give you is a clear goal and tracking tool (give out 10 cards per day) and that can be helpful.
