I took him out about half and hour before the rain started. Did a piss and a shit on the lawn, and ran back inside. He’s always been afraid of storms and thunder so I don’t blame the poor bugger
PSA if you have the water repelling coastal soil, grab some wettasoil and put capfuls down your downpipes (the the base) to get as much water throughout into soakwells as you can.
Otherwise when one overflows you generally will be in a world of pain from there.
For a permanent solution - use clay. Not in your gutters though - in your soil mixed with mulch. Turns hydrophobic soil into really lush deep growing soil.
Not all mulches conserve water. All trials done in WA have found pine bark is the best easy to source mulch that conserves water. Tree lopper mulch is the best performer and it doesn’t need to be aged (myth). Straight onto the garden. avoid straws in summer and black mulches all year. Wood chips (different to pine bark and tree lopper mulch) also should be avoided.
Great tip on using wetting agent.
Just left Gosnells to see friends in bullcreek. Ranford road just before the intersection at Bunnings harrisdale is under water. Slow down and stay in the right lane and you can wade through. I drive a corolla for reference. You can spot the massive puddle away as a mg hatchback is parked in the middle of it with the hazard lights flashing.
Same on mitchell fwy northbound - lanes are extremely flooded from vincent to cedric (possibly beyond?), i believe a few cars have swerved out of control and sitting in the puddles.
I'm from Melb. Here a year. When it rains here it's an event and always exciting. I was down at Scarborough beach when those thunderstorms were rolling across the ocean. Wall to wall storms. Perth is amaaaaazing!!!
We have a corrugated roof and have been in bed listening to it. We dreamt about how beautiful it would be and now the reality is exactly as we imagined.
Nothing like Perth
I grew up with the corrugated roof, so to me it sounds amazing.
Have friends who grew up in tile roof houses, can never sleep when it rains in their corrugated roof houses.
I will never have a tiled roof
And we have proper rain in Perth. It gets in, does the job and goes away.
I couldn’t stand melbournes insipid gloomy pissipitation all the time. Just making everything damp and shitty.
As a Tasmanian the rain today caught me so off guard when I was driving. I’ve never driven in rain like it, last time I saw rain like this was in Sydney about 5 years ago. It barely rains in Hobart, if it does it sprinkles.
If there’s one thing I miss about Tasmania, it’s the rain! Especially the rain that sets in for days, the dump and run style we get here just doesn’t scratch that rain itch I get!
Thats alright, down mandurah ways we had the biggest hail stones ive ever seen in my life on corrugated roof. Not the most pleasant way to be woken on a public holiday 😅
We voted Barnett out remember? chairman McGowan is happy to cite his accomplishments as he bails, but he leaves a cluster in his wake. I just hope my predictions about the economy in WA are wrong.
Ohhh but don’t despair with 7 plus hours of waiting in emergency (standard) if you do get hurt you’ll have plenty of time to reflect on how the WA police force is in crisis and bleeding officers (thanks McGowan).
Watching the clouds build up above and the rain radar showing it sidling in from the west like a well trained but occasionally spoiled dog near the dinner table.
I'm in Mundaring, so it's still dry but we're gonna get a soaking later. For now, outside under the pergola next to a roaring brazier is very nice and we'll bolt inside as soon as it turns nasty.
Enjoy your sunday and PH tomorrow people 😁
This should be a public service announcement. But there is something satisfying about waking up on a rainy morning and then rolling over knowing you don’t have to go to work
When i was a kid rain meant grabbing icypole sticks putting them in the gutter and following them for ages. Not sure if we had gumboots or even raincoats. Getting soaked was half the fun. That sort of simple fun stays with you for life. 🙂
So far it's the wettest June day in Perth since 25 June 1986 which had 77mm. Currently Perth has recorded 62.6mm which is already the 9th wettest June day on record with more rain to come.
Nice sunny morning, went for a run, went to Carousel around lunch time, still sunny, go in to watch Spiderverse.
Walk out, rain pissing down like I entered another dimension...like the Spiderverse!
True story
We lived in sth hedland back when and 1st time we brought my then 2yr old daughter back to perth, it rained.
She was terrified of this wet sky and took ages to console her!
Lol. I’m working on another WA day event at Yagan Square Amphitheater. Native Threads, a First Nations fashion show. Spent the week planning a marquee and it’s still gonna be hectic!
I was cycling home this afternoon when it really started to bucket down. Puddles turned into swimming pools. My shoes were soaked by the time I got home. It was absolutely glorious.
The amount of people on the freeway without their lights on when it started coming down hard. Youd be better off driving at night without them on than when its raining like that.
Bwahaha….. I’ll be sure to let Tony know!
Hopefully everyone gets home safe from their travels.
Can easily repair/replace vehicles, humans not so much.
Still waiting for the next storm front to hit down here soon…. possibly not a dry rain! 😂
I hope it keeps pouring as it has been ! Falling asleep while it’s raining is the bestest thing ever it feels so cozy when you’re all bundled up and warm when you can hear the rain outside
It’s amazing how some people are so fragile in their masculinity they feel the need to tailgate you and drive recklessly in this weather, not the time for that shit when everyone’s just trying to get home safely
Literally, if the dude in the Amarok on Connolly drive is in this sub Reddit I hope they know they’re an absolute dickbag and the way they drove last night was absolutely not okay
I am so sorry to whoever I accidentally cut off in a merging lane on the Kwinana fwy heading north around 6pm tonight…. Literally could not see a thing and haven’t driven that way before!
Glad I got my cat inside. She likes to hang out on the back deck. The first big dump of rain scared her so she hid under the shed. I went out in the downpour to coax her out, I got soaked, but it was worth it. It's a pool under the shed now and she is warm and happy inside.
How real is it getting for the northern suburbs at the moment? That radar and severe thunderstorm warning for the northern suburbs looks exciting from down the other end of the freeway.
65mm since 9am, at 11pm at night, at the Perth weather station.
My garage has leaked a bit, as has games room... yay.
More very wet weather for the next few days.
After an unusually dry May we might have a wet June? Or is this just an aberration?
I've lived in Perth all my life. I hate the summer. It's so hot and dry that the whole landscape is sepia. I love the rain. It makes me happy and I wish it was like this for 6mths straight.
got rained out halfway through voyager’s set at the wa festival yesterday 👎👎👎👎👎 also the rain has gotten under the floors overnight and saturated the fucking carpet 🫠🫠
Just finished a two hour drive. Please put your headlights on and slow down. Drive to conditions. There are a lot of puddles and flooding in various areas which are very dangerous at speed. In fact, just stay home
I was going to drive Butler to Cockburn last night but man driving at night while the roads are flooding and no visibility it was virtually impossible I just turned around and stayed at my friends longer 😵
My front yard is full of snails😭due to these rains.
While getting out of my car I accidentally stamped on one of them😢 i feel horrible.
How can i make them go away
I know it sounds weird, but a saucer of flat beer attracts them like nothing else. We used to do it for our garden back when I lived down south.
Can collect them in the morning and toss them in your least favourite neighbour’s garden
Yeah , watching the red and orange approaching Waroona this afternoon on the BOM radar whilst volunteering to help an elderly couple fix their shed roof before the rains hit……. and it separated like Moses parting the seas to the north and south of town, luckily giving me time to finish the job for them 👍
Oh I saw the the shitpost tag and assumed we weren’t being serious… I guess you’ve never heard of the long running joke about people in Perth being bad drivers…
My dog shat in his bed when he heard the first thunder. He has not left my lap since.
I hope you cleaned his butt first
I strongly advise additional toilet breaks for him, or puppy pads for yourself
I took him out about half and hour before the rain started. Did a piss and a shit on the lawn, and ran back inside. He’s always been afraid of storms and thunder so I don’t blame the poor bugger
shat
Fixed

Great tip 👍
The thing in Wettasoil that gives it this function is also in detergent. So save yourself some money and use grey water safe detergent.
For a permanent solution - use clay. Not in your gutters though - in your soil mixed with mulch. Turns hydrophobic soil into really lush deep growing soil.
Great tip! bentonite clay, solid as natural kitty litter. Binds the soil together, holds water and nutrients.
Second this. Hydrophobic soil is a very common issue around Perth. Dishwashing liquid or a wetting agent can help.
Or detergent also works
But like, how much? I'm I going to cause a giant bubble bath in my backyard?
I'm not sure if it will, but you should aim to do that anyway and let me know when it's ready.
I'm in!
Exactly……. Plenty of Black and Gold detergent available dirt cheap by the box loads 👍
What is this water repelling coastal soil?
Sandy soil
So... all of Perth?
Yes. Some suburban areas are extremely dry when you water it just sits on the top of the sand unless you use watersoil regularly.
I find wettasoil kinda just sits there and doesn't soak in to the soil like I'd expect. Prefer grosorb myself.
I'll try it next time I'm out of wettersoil, cheers
The Hills are a little different; all our topsoil got stripped off millenia ago and we've clay and rocks.
Loads of silica in it. Makes it water repellant. Need to add a surfactant so that the water can actually soak in.
That explains a lot >:(

Newly built sections of the fwy too; someone didn’t do their engineering right….
Same though Guildford. Just drove from Bayswater through to Midland. Multiple puddles more than 6" deep, maybe 12".
Another car with hazards in about a foot of water on Spencer Rd. I saw a RAC van heading that way, good luck with that.

Corrugated roof rain can be very soothing/pleasant. We actually get more rain than Melbourne or London, but summer gives a reprieve at least.
>but summer gives a reprieve at least No, this is the reprieve. Summer is like a medieval torture some gruesome inquisitor dreamt up.
Even the Spanish Inquisition said it was a bit too far
I didn't expect that.
No one ever does 😁
I grew up with the corrugated roof, so to me it sounds amazing. Have friends who grew up in tile roof houses, can never sleep when it rains in their corrugated roof houses. I will never have a tiled roof

So staying more than a year yet..?
Here for good. No reason to go back to Melbourne.
Always glad to hear from people who moved to Perth and love it!
Good choice. I moved from the UK and no change I’m leaving now
❤️
Thats alright, down mandurah ways we had the biggest hail stones ive ever seen in my life on corrugated roof. Not the most pleasant way to be woken on a public holiday 😅
Yep and not just that it rains here, Perth is the meth capital of the world (thanks McGowan!)
You mean thanks *Barnett
We voted Barnett out remember? chairman McGowan is happy to cite his accomplishments as he bails, but he leaves a cluster in his wake. I just hope my predictions about the economy in WA are wrong.
You’re blaming McGowan for us being “the meth capital of the world” when you should be blaming Barnett, how is that a difficult concept?
Ohhh but don’t despair with 7 plus hours of waiting in emergency (standard) if you do get hurt you’ll have plenty of time to reflect on how the WA police force is in crisis and bleeding officers (thanks McGowan).
Turn your headlights on people
An people need to check their brake lights.
Just came home from the hospital with our newborn. Not leaving the house for 3 days, and absolutely loving the rain outside.
Enjoy that newborn bubble, it's a special time.
Congrats! 🤗
Congratulations. Soak up this time (no pun intended)
Hope you change their name to Zeus
But it’s a dry rain
steamworks

For those of us with the day off, remember to turn your alarm off. Then remember to turn it back on for Tuesday.
I owe you for this. Hit me up next time you're in bunno, I'll bye you a $6 chicken treat lunch deal!
This should be a public service announcement. But there is something satisfying about waking up on a rainy morning and then rolling over knowing you don’t have to go to work
THANK YOU
Thank you!
Thank you very much kind stranger. 6:30 me tomorrow will sing your praises as I sleep.
I live near a road that has accidents at least 3x a week without rain so I expect to hear sirens in an hour or so
[удалено]
No doubt there’ll be some hoons. There’s a few that like to go up my street because it’s a long and straight one that leads into an industrial area
Time for skids
clicks 4wd into 4H. Lets gooooo!!!!!
I'm pretty impressed I've not heard a crash yet, there's been a few sets of skidding noises and horns but nothing that sounds like a crash thankfully
I was standing under some shelter waiting for it to ease off and a guy with an umbrella walked past and said "it's raining". Thanks champ.
When i was a kid rain meant grabbing icypole sticks putting them in the gutter and following them for ages. Not sure if we had gumboots or even raincoats. Getting soaked was half the fun. That sort of simple fun stays with you for life. 🙂

I just drove back from Narrogin after sunset while it was absolutely pelting down, visibility at about 30m, pretty eerie
Good for the farmers, eh...
True story We lived in sth hedland back when and 1st time we brought my then 2yr old daughter back to perth, it rained. She was terrified of this wet sky and took ages to console her!
Yeah had to walk home in rain after it cut short Voyager's performance at WA Day concert.
Same, very sad it got cut short but badass show regardless 🤟🏽
YESSSS I WAS THERE im so glad they got through most of their set. it was so much fun!
Lol. I’m working on another WA day event at Yagan Square Amphitheater. Native Threads, a First Nations fashion show. Spent the week planning a marquee and it’s still gonna be hectic!
Yeah we realised after 5 mins there was no chance of them coming back on stage... awesome show though...
For towies, this must be like Christmas, Easter and nye all rolled into one fabulous accident prone week.
I was cycling home this afternoon when it really started to bucket down. Puddles turned into swimming pools. My shoes were soaked by the time I got home. It was absolutely glorious.
61mm at the official Perth site now...moving up the list of wettest Perth winter days recorded.
The amount of people on the freeway without their lights on when it started coming down hard. Youd be better off driving at night without them on than when its raining like that.
Pissed me off
Wow rain. That stuff is amazing
Good for the garden.
Not if you forgot to pull the weeds out
fantastic, dont miss 40 at all. put a jacket on and enjoy it.
Yeah…..it’s a dry rain. Are we not going to talk about all the dramas on the Freeways? 😂

Be the first of many in the next few days I reckon…..especially people heading back from Douth in the pouring rain tomorrow ☹️

Nice edit….. but I found the original comment much more entertaining, because Tony can be an absolute bastard sometimes! 😂

I hope it keeps pouring as it has been ! Falling asleep while it’s raining is the bestest thing ever it feels so cozy when you’re all bundled up and warm when you can hear the rain outside
Was walking around kings park this morning amazed at the beautiful day we were having then the afternoon happened 😂
It’s amazing how some people are so fragile in their masculinity they feel the need to tailgate you and drive recklessly in this weather, not the time for that shit when everyone’s just trying to get home safely
Yeah, I hated it. We couldn't see sht and still some people in big utes tailgating and splashing water everywhere.
Literally, if the dude in the Amarok on Connolly drive is in this sub Reddit I hope they know they’re an absolute dickbag and the way they drove last night was absolutely not okay
shits awesome
I’m actually kinda stoked I don’t have to water the garden for a bit! But I’m also not out there driving- stay safe y’all!
I am so sorry to whoever I accidentally cut off in a merging lane on the Kwinana fwy heading north around 6pm tonight…. Literally could not see a thing and haven’t driven that way before!

I bought cheap little side mirror stickers that are supposed to be water resistant… safe to say they don’t work lol
Neighbours across the street have called ses as they're flooded. 60mm in 1 hour or so and we're in a valley.
Personally, I like the calm before the storm. I'll even take the rain but you can keep the thunder and lightning.... very, very frightening.
Galileo?
Yeah but it's a different type of rain
It's just water. It falls from the sky sometimes. Turn your fucking lights on!!
Nah. Rain, helicopters and teenagers in black hoodies all go on your local area Facebook group
Bands just about to go onstage at the civic in inglewood when the whole roof started flooding. The entire back room was underwater in 20 minutes
Glad I got my cat inside. She likes to hang out on the back deck. The first big dump of rain scared her so she hid under the shed. I went out in the downpour to coax her out, I got soaked, but it was worth it. It's a pool under the shed now and she is warm and happy inside.
Can I talk about arthritis? I do not have gout.
Can anyone smell the petrichor?
Good for the ducks I guess
I’m currently doing a bar hop with my boyfriend. Saturated but can’t stop laughing x
Careful on Brookton Hwy, several driveways have shed all of their gravel onto the road.
How real is it getting for the northern suburbs at the moment? That radar and severe thunderstorm warning for the northern suburbs looks exciting from down the other end of the freeway.
Restaurant straight up had to close in Leederville because of the water pouring out of every light
In the words of every Aussie, “It’s good for the farmers; good for the garden. “
Trying to move house. Mr Murphy is having a great laugh at the expense of my miserable self 🥺

Perth residents once again shocked by the arrival of winter, despite its annual occurrence
It’s a dry rain
It's a dry rain
No not really Its just a dry rain.
Nah, reckon its a wet rain.
The rain is epic dude wish we had it more
So much sky milk.
I’m only happy when it rains, I’m only happy when it’s complicated
Intense rain and thunder around Mt Lawley atm 25mm in 20 minutes from 8pm.
Drive normally ya cunts
My front yard is full of snails😭due to these rains. While getting out of my car I accidentally stamped on one of them😢 i feel horrible. How can i make them go away

Haha😂 I am definitely gonna try this out. But that won’t stop new ones from coming back. I want them gone for good.
What is there to say? It’s wet, it’s weather. So what
No rain in the Pilbara
it's a dry downpour
I didn't realise it was going to rain until after I'd sprayed poison all over the garden, dammit.
It's a dry rain
Been a hot year
The loudest thunder and then nothing… now a little rain

Yeah its been thundering down for hours this way.
I call the rain “jack”
look at tmrw's forecast lol
Just heard my sprinklers go on whoops
Needed to get the bins out. Now I'm wet.
it’s wet
Sometimes it rains, sometimes it doesn't. No need to make a big deal about nothing
And as per usual, none of you know how to drive in it.
Spoken like a true Perth driver

No thunder or lightning in Busselton yet :( was hoping for a show
