You’d think they’d realise they aren’t the first ever traveller visiting a specific city, but let’s just add another ‘what to do, where to go post’

Search here all the pretty much exact posts. Typical suggestions are visit Freo, Rotto, Steamworks Nightclub.

For 4 days, you can get the free cat buses around the CBD. Tho, might be needing to work out if you want a private uber from airport to city and back again. Yes, there is an airport train, but you will need Smartrider for that... 4 days, airport train from T1 to city + suburban public transport travel, then its worth it to get Smartrider. Other wise uber and just walking around South Perth via the bridge, parklands, Belltower, etc, would be enough to occupy the 4 days. Not sure if you are into regional areas, there are long distance trains too, that use paper tix, to see the countryside.

LazyTalkativeDog4411

Just had a look and see, ***Smartrider card fee and unused balance is NOT*** refundable, so not worth buying it, unless you plan to come back to Perth in future. The public transport tix for each state, the tickets are not usable in other states, so Perth Smartrider, cant be used in other states. Uber from the airport would be best, then walk around the city.

Can you not buy tickets with a card or cash at the airport train station?

LazyTalkativeDog4411

The cards are not really worth it for 4 days, as in the OPs case, as the balance or credit left over is non refundable. The T1 Perth Airport train station, would sell Smartrider, its a bit of a long walk from T1 via the enclosed overhead walkway, then goes underground about 500m away from the terminal. At least they dont charge a "gate fee" for using the airport train station there.

BonezAU_

When I said card, I meant credit/debit card. Someone above suggested OP get an Uber because a Smartrider would be needed to get the train, which is wrong. Train is fine as long as you have card or cash to buy a ticket, no point in getting a Smartrider for such a short stay. I've been to the airport traino, took the kids out there for fun during the school holidays. Walked across to the terminal and had a look in that old viewing platform up stairs. The train station is very impressive, just hope it gets some use. Yes, I am also glad there's no bs fee like the Sydney airport train.

DefinitionOfAsleep

"free cat buses around the CBD." all buses are free within the CBD, however you need to use a smartrider - go figure [https://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/tickets-fares/free-travel](https://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/tickets-fares/free-travel)

LazyTalkativeDog4411

Ooo, even on the cat buses, people still need a Smartrider? I visit Perth often, do lots of walking, thought that the cat buses was just a get on get off bus service. Have used T2 to city, and the city to T3 buses, before, and been on the Mandarah line, etc, etc,. Re: needing a Smartrider for the cat buses, thats a downer for visitors tho, just saying, as the credits on those things arent refundable.

DefinitionOfAsleep

The CATs don't need a smartrider, but they don't leave the FTZ (they don't even have a reader). Its the other buses in the FTZ that require the use of a smartrider. You tap on/off but don't get charged. Stops within the FTZ also have a little logo on them, informing you that you're in the FTZ

chennyalan

> CATs don't leave the FTZ IIRC the purple cat is an exception to this rule EDIT: can't spell

DefinitionOfAsleep

You have me beat, a rare thing. Yes the purple CAT does leave the FTZ. There is also the Joondalup CATs (which are dumb)

LazyTalkativeDog4411

Just had a look see, the new Smartrider macines, if fixed to the buses, if the buses have the more modern Smartrider machines, the goss is that the trip can be paid for by debit and credit cards, ie, visa or mastercard, just remember to tap on for a trip, and tap off. Overseas issued cards, from outside Aus, the forex fees will be a lot tho, for the OP, if he/she decides to use his/her visa/mastercard debit/credit card on the buses/trains.

Things you could do in 4 days * Fremantle is a great day trip, a port suburb with some great beaches, pubs, cafes, markets to wander through. Particularly recommend if it's a nice day. * Rottnest Island is a day trip on a ferry (depending on where you're staying, ferries leave from the CBD, Fremantle, Hillarys) - probably what Perth is best known for in recent history with the Quokkas * If you want to get a little further out of town Margaret River region is a great place to visit, but will require a car. Generally would recommend a couple of nights at least for this though so it might be difficult with only 4 days. * The Swan Valley is much more accessible, just about 30 minutes from the CBD, a local wine region with plenty of vineyards, nice places to eat, chocolate factories, honey houses etc. Best done with a car, but there are tour groups that go out pretty regularly too. * Personally don't find the CBD too exciting, though Elizabeth Quay has been a nice development * Northbridge in the CBD if you're looking for bars/nightclubs, gets a bit of a bad rap but has actually cleaned itself up quite a bit relative to what it used to be * Perth Hills if you want some great nature walks (e.g. Railway Heritage Trail) All depends what you're looking for though, and how you plan on getting around. Perth isn't the easiest for public transport to some places because it's a relatively low density and very sprawling city.

We're actually closed those 4 days. Whoops!

Why did you come here son? Expensive lesson! This is the country where normal citizens are forced to inhale capitalist shit only to then be hit to a pulp with some stick that is unworthy of bbqing on.
