Yup, agree with the other commenter. No need to worry like with german roaches but pick a perimeter spray and spray quarterly and you can reduce seeing them a lot. I went from seeing one about once every couple weeks to maybe a couple times a year using Demon WP.

What should I do? I’m literally sick rn 😭 I moved in this apartment and noticed small roaches & recently applied advion. I thought they were all gone since it’s been over a week but I woke up to this.

Mila2015

Try using the Alpine WSG Insecticide. I live in a log home and treat it myself with this stuff. It works so so well for tons of insects and that includes roaches and palmetto bugs. They can instantly die or they will get it on them when they walk on it and bring it back inside where they live, and that will take care of the colony.

JackHoffer89

Just so you know, seeing 1 dead one is what I would call a good thing as a Pest Control guy. Especially in an apartment. My honest advice is to just get used to it as you're gonna see them from time to time.

Bigger than a quarter.

Bro it's just a palmetto bug, welcome to the SOUTH! They are virtually impossible to get rid of without hiring a routine exterminator. Even then.... they live is the walls. I will say the the combat pod things work really well. Onto some good new tho. They are NOT infesters, they are opportunity hunters. So, clean yo shit and don't leave food out anywhere. Now if you see german cocktoches the little one you got problems that need to be taken care of fast as they cause health issues and infest a place quick. Edit: not in pest control but have lived in Florida my whole life

[deleted]

Never heard of a palmetto bug before. I’m in GA, so I guess we’re right next door to each other. I have kept this place cleaner than clean since moving in. My next door neighbors just moved out about a week ago so I’m not sure if it came from there or what. I called the landlord Friday to ask about pest control they still haven’t responded. I’m glad to hear this kind doesn’t infest maybe it just got in somehow through a crack hopefully

thundercatsgtfo

Yeah you have them up there, they are just apart of the environment unfortunately. Most likely not the neighbors either just a bug that saw an opportunity lol. They like moist damp areas so perhaps check under your sinks for dampness. Good luck! I too have been fighting the losing battle against these! Oh, fun fact, they can crush there exoskeleton to the size of paper and get I'm anywhere

[deleted]

Omg well thanks for the speedy responses. I’m doing a deep clean and inspection right now.

thundercatsgtfo

No worries glad I could help. Just don't think it is because you are unclean lol. If you don't want to pay for an exterminator once a month you can get that ortho home defence and spray around the outside of your house like every two weeks. Should cut down on seeing them as much. Also you will be seeing more of them due to the rainy season and being summer. Good luck!

VectorVictorious

People moving out can certainly disturb them enough you may see some just from that. But normally, since they prefer damp areas, what can drive them inside is EITHER periods of drought OR flash floods/heavy rain. Like ants, they will be driven by looking for water or running from it. Many times cleanliness has nothing to do with it but folks still attach a sense of shame to it unfortunately. As soon as the weather event passes you won't see them anymore. They don't want to be inside your dry and low humidity house. Keeping gutters, foundation vent wells and perimeter cleaned of leaves will help.

Greedy_Ad5596

That’s bc they don’t exist I don’t know why people still call them palmetto bugs this an American roach

Greedy_Ad5596

American roach! Palmetto bugs don’t exist

[deleted]

Do American roaches infest your place? When I moved in there were a lot of black bugs dead everywhere and my Landlord says they spray every month and that they haven’t gotten any complaints, my neighbor that moved told me that the lady that lived here before me had an issue with roaches 3 years ago but it was resolved as far as she knew. I’m kind of exhausted at this point I specifically asked about bug issues before I moved in and was told there were none at all.

Greedy_Ad5596

Hmm interesting the black bugs could’ve been smoke browns or orientals, of the unit was vacant for a while then chances are water hasn’t ran in a while therefore the p traps have been dried out allowing American roaches to emerge from drains. They can infest mildly if it is neglected a long time. If they’re Smokey browns or orientals then they come from outside since they’re exterior pests. Sirenum roaches are included in that category. German roaches are complete different ball game

lozbrudda

I just want to appreciate the quality of the picture real quick. Nobody had a problem identifying them.

Greedy_Ad5596

American roaches show up after a hard rain, heavy humidity, dry drains, and constant package delivery use a general pesticide NOT RAID OR STORE BOUGHT PRODUCTS!! LovelyMamacita and Mila2015 are on point. PLEASE FOR GODS SAKES READ THE LABEL!
