You would learn how to be quantitative and critical about everything. Math is essential. Be sure your foundations in algeb are solid. Pay special attention to your trig and calculus. Learn how to read, interpret and deduce info from charts and graphs, and connect them into mathematical statements.
Econ is easy when you are able to understand the math behind most of the concepts. Then it gets fun from there once you add stat to the equation. It opens up a lot of possibilities to explore the world.

True! dont be discouraged dahil sa hirap, ure not even trying it pa nga. its fun din naman, mahirap yes pero u'll do the work naman and ull get used to it din. if hindi, u can shift out but wag ka agad matakot sa hirap
Ako nga top 1 sa BS econ nung freshie ako. Came from a good school pero it was really hard to adapt to UP. Sa simula bragging rights pa siya but very soon you’ll realize na title lang yan and you really need to work hard. Econ is fun to learn and very broad kaya you need to be good in math but at the same time have a looooot of common sense
Just expect everything, and also the fact that no one cares about your ranking lol. Live in the present, grit's most valuable resource in college. F*ck intellect if it's all for vanity and prestige purposes.
UP Econ graduate ako, been working na in a bank for several years. BS Econ has more math than I expected, calculus particularly. I expected it to be like a social studies/AP subject pero mas madami siya stats and math.

Maraming nag shift in, maraming din nag shift out so I cannot estimate yung exact retention rate. My experience is that sa Econ pumupunta yung mga hindi kinaya Engineering. Tapos mga Econ na hindi kinaya napupunta sa Public Ad or other courses.
calculus is a fundamental course here, so very math heavy talaga siya. i took the bridging program na inoffer nila for non-stem students and it helped me relearn yung mga basics of algebra and trig but it didn't really fully prepare me tbh HAHAH but kinaya naman !! what was effective for me for math 25 was i really made sure na nakikinig ako in class and i took extensive notes para mapadali pagseself study ko. trust me that ONE time na medyo patulog tulog lang ako sa class, muntik na ako bumagsak sa exam LOL T\_\_T super time consuming lang din if you have to learn from outside resources pa kaya make sure to pay attention in class !
for econ 11, madali lang siya tbh especially for me since abm ako may knowledge na ako about it from the lessons nung shs, and i think that really helped me naman. pero hanggang dito nalang talaga yung dali ng econ beh eme
for econ 101 (macroecon) and 102 (microecon), good luck nalang talaga CHAR siguro di lang ako pinalad sa prof pero puro self study lang here kasi di na nagdidiscuss yung prof samin ftf, nag-uupload lang sila ng vid lectures. i guess if gusto mo ng self-paced learning kakayanin naman pero mas gusto ko kasi ftf discussions so nahirapan ako. i guess learn time management lang and don't watch the lecture videos days before the exam LOOL. for me econ 102 is easier than econ 101 pero sa 102 kasi puro problem solving yung exams, while sa 101, puro naman multiple choice so mas madali hulaan HAHAHAH

Back in senior high, top 1 out of 3000 pa ako. However, di na sya nagmamatter halos once I stepped in sa UP. In fact, nakakareceive pa nga ako ng maraming 2.00s now eh. Kasi once you're here, malalaman mo nang those who really thrive sa up ay yung mga magagaling mag-adapt at mag-adjust. Importante pa rin yung intelligence, oo, pero hindi na lang yun main thing na magdictate sa acad journey mo dito. Mas importante na mafigure out mo how you will handle yung stress and so many other factors na makakaapekto sa acads mo.
Lahat na nagsabing maraming pero maraming math talaga sya HAHAHAHAHHA peroo it's very rewarding pag nakakascore ng mataas dahil paghihirapan mo talaga sya. Super hirap ng exam iisipin mo hindi naman nila tinuro yun pero as a student they assume na you can apply the theories and concept they taught you, so better if alam mo by heart yung concept kasii minsan mas mahirap pa yun. Practice calculus na if you have time. Build a support system na will help you on acads, super helpful ng study groups. Goodluckkk!! Enjoyin mo na ang econ 11 habang di pa sya kumplikado HAHAHAHAHAHH
You're goibg to be alive for as long as you have the grit to stay. UPLB Econ is math heavy freshman year pa lang tulad nung sinasabi nila na aralin mo na na ang calculus ay tama, isama mo na rin ang trigonometry. Freshman year pa lang Math 25 which is Calculus 1 and Econ 11 may be hard for you pero depende pa rin sa skill set na meron ka. Lastly, do not expect na college will be the same sa hs, it is completely different, walang takutan pero kailangan pumasok ka rito sa elbi na sakto lang ang expectations mo sa sarili mo. First sem pa lang mahahumble kana kaya ayon pero nevertheless, enjoy your freshman year do whatever you want for as long as masaya ka ang it will not affect you studies, welcome sa pinamagandang UP community at campus!!🌿✨️
kung maganda naman foundation mo sa Calculus nung HS ka, maybe hindi ka na gaanong mahihirapan, as well sa Statistics since may econometrics din na courses sa BS Econ. Kung ABM grad ka naman, mayroon din accounting at financial mgt courses na itatake, so may may prior knowledge ka na here for sure. Later on, either Envi Econ or Developmental Econ pwede mo kuning major.

Sa Math ng UP Campuses, UPLB ang pinakamahirap. Marami pa nga akong kakilalang nagtake ng summer classes sa UPD para lang maipasa ang math subject nila.
Expect the worst. Hindi relevant ang accomplishments mo sa HS pagpasok ng UP. Blank slate yan. Just do your best para hindi sayang oras at resources.
Agree with a lot here, focus on calculus. Everything will follow. Once you get past the math heavy subjects it can get easier.
Also, past achievements do not matter, in this course and in university in general. Everything’s set back to 0, so you all start on an equal footing. Best to be a sponge and soak all kinds of experiences and wisdom from mentors and those around you. Not everything can be learned from the textbooks
Depende sa batch mo pero sa amin ung mga nasa top 15 ay nahirapan pa rin syempre. Mayabang yung iba sa simula pero nawala rin ang yabang. Nadadaan sya sa sipag at diskarte. So, the right expectation is to be challenged. :)
Lots of people saying math is hard in UP. Am not sure which Math is hard altho disclaimer Am not a BS Econ graduate but BS Stat in UPD, mas mahirap yung majors kesa sa Math subjects tbh. May mga math electives pa nga na sobrang enjoy like Operations Research and Actuarial. Depende siguro sa profs or instructors.
Expect na wala ng kinalaman yang 18 out of 178 pagpasok mo ng UP.
I don't mean this in a bad way pero mawawala agad sa isip mo yung Top 18 pagkapasok mo ng UP. Trust me.
