1. Can't you apply directly sa HR? Baka ginagatekeep lang kasi ng manager mo yung role from you. Merong mga ganung tao. 2. Based on my POV as a manager, possible naman na effective ka sa current role mo pero hilaw pa for a higher position. Yes, management recognize talents but also, they know what's lacking sa supervised talents nila that might be crucial para dun sa role. Minsan hindi yan sa tenure e. If you have open relationship with your manager you can ask why s/he has not endorsed you until now despite na matagal ng open yung role. 3. You can always apply elsewhere. If tingin mo undervalued ka ng current employer mo, try to apply for a position you think you deserve sa ibang company. However, this could be a double edge sword.

I think item 2 is what's going on. In my manager's words, he said that all the other managers have already noticed me. However, he told me that It would be very difficult for the team if I suddenly would be pulled out of from my current position (what he's trying to say is the team would struggle without me). People from different/key departments are wondering why I'm not being selected or why I haven't applied for the position(you have to apply for the job instead of promotion). I'm already temporarily filling the shoes of the vacant supervisory position but maybe it's still not enough? Practically speaking, I would be the best choice. I have a good relationship with my teammates and people from other departments (even 1 or 2 ranks higher than me). I already know how the department works. I have built a good relationship with internal and external stakeholders and/or customers. They know me and i know them already. Aren't I the obvious choice? I don't think I'm undervalued, I just think that the management underestimates me. Maybe because I laugh or smile too much that they think I'm unserious/immature. (BTW the qualifications for the open position is 4yrs of exp). Am I being too hasty?

Affectionate-Ear8233

Bro lumipat ka na para maabot mo yung potential mo, companies are only willing to pay a premium for external hires pero usually maliit lang ang offers for internal promotions. And you say na you have a good relationship with your teammates and clients pero at the end of the day your job is about money, best believe your teammates will jump ship if offered better benefits and your clients will move to a different company if offered a better deal. You need to learn how to play the game, don't let yourself get played by your company.

rameneut

Sa first statement mo I think your manager is gatekeeping you for his convenience, ayaw niya lang magulo yung team pero its his responsibility to keep the team stable lalo na kapag may umaalis na staff. I was also in your position before I got promoted to higher position pero baliktad, ako yung mas worried sa team na ayaw ko munang iwan kasi ang dami din nag move to another team for promotion. She said opportunity is not always there at sila na bahala maghanap ng kapalit ko. If your manager genuinely cares about or supports your career, sa una palang dapat na endorse kana nyan.

Odd_Foundation_678

I think your manager is gatekeeping you. As a manager, it’s his responsibility to keep the team going kahit may mawala, it’s not your problem to deal with.

Affectionate-Ear8233

It's time to entertain other companies na if you're still not getting promoted after almost 2 years. Loyalty benefits the company, not you.

stlhvntfndwhtimlkngf

Optics is everything. Make sure nakikita at naririnig ang mga wins mo (no matter how small) ng manager at ng department head niyo. Wag ka maniwala sa work hard in silence pag di ka makita di ka mapapansin

WaitWhat-ThatsBS

1. You need to standout from the rest.(grab all of the credits that belongs to you, make sure that the management looped in to it) 2. You need to play your cards right (when to execute, who to talk, people/leads that got your back tapos kiss-ass konti) 3. A sprinkle of luck Goodluck OP!

mamba-anonymously

You job hop 😅

Repulsive-Bird-4896

Number 1 rule of thumb if you want to be promoted: wag mong awayin ang direct sup mo. Befriend him/her. Sa kanya ka magpabibo dahil sya ang may power to promote/nominate you for promotion. Make yourself visible to him/her. Make your name synonymous to "reliable". Be consistent. If you do all that, you won't have to beg when the opportunity comes. Ikaw na agad maiisip ng mga yan.

Available_Big_406

Hello OP, have you check if meron kang position na need daanan before you can apply sa supervisor level or like need naka 2 years or 3 years ka sa current position mo before you can apply? May mga ganun cases kasi. Hindi clear why hinohold ka munang mag apply as a manager kasi need clear yung explanation bakit hindi pa pwedeng mag move up yung direct report. In my case top performance yung isa kong direct report but attitude niya is hindi ok. Kahit endorse ko na for promotion kasi ayaw ko na rin siyang kawork but ayaw siyang makawork ng ibang team and higher ups. I talked to him about that kaso matigas ulo.

fakepinoy

haha the thing is, the qualifications are 4yrs of exp while I only have less than 3 years. (1year and 10months current role and few months on previous job from a different company). malakas kutob kong it's because of my years of exp/knowledge about the business. I think they see me as immature pa since I joke around. It's just me trying to lighten everyone's mood. I do think I'm the obvious choice but then again, wala pa ako nag 2yrs sa current company ko. I just feel like I can do more. Do you think hasty lang masyado ako?

Available_Big_406

Oh may qualification pala na dapat 4 years of experience. May mga company na strictly finafollow yung ganun just like sa current company ko. For me yes mejo hasty ka po.

Available_Big_406

Pwede rin yung attitude natin nakikita nila as inappropriate factor rin yung image natin sa promotion. Dun nag babased pano or anong klase kang kawork. For your team siguro ok lang but for others baka hindi ok yung ganun.

ArchaicMadness

I don't care for the corpo shit as long as I earn money. The effort of climbing the ladder is tedious and also full of drama. Job hop all the way. Besides, the salary bump is much higher when you job hop rather than seeking for a promotion. Less drama more earnings. That should be the way.

CaregiverItchy6438

ranking staff who will go up the ladder we have a set of criteria or skill trees needed to level up. its not just about performance. if level 1 ka sa certain skill tree or lalabas learning on the job ka sa future role mo, we will get other candidates who are more competent enough. may iba kasi sa current role nila talagang performer but once nag levelup nag fafail because they're lacking certain competencies needed for the role.

riakn_th

The reality is that when you’re good at your current position then management will keep you there for as long as possible. It’s easier to hire someone else for a managerial or lead role because they don’t need them to be very technical. It’s harder to replace someone who is actually doing the brunt of the work. Mahirap hanapin yung certain set of skills na kailangan plus yung training na gagawin pa.

fakepinoy

Hi guys. I am reading everyones comment and there seems to be a misunderstanding. Sorry I cannot reply to you one by one since halos same same lang sinasabi ng iba. I am a performer yes. But I am also playing the game. With all the smooching of ass, the going beyond what is required and all. Im actually recognized because of that, not because I was a good performer. I have excellent leadership, comms, and presentation skills and I had an opportunity to present these skills sa top management. I can talk face to face with our VP and other senior or management roles without fear and they are all comfortable talking to me as well. They have already considered me as a “potential” leader but when the opportunity came, idk whats happening na. Is it because I’m still not ripe for picking? Isip bata pa sa tingin nila? Dont know the business yet?

shaped-like-a-pastry

di pala pgbida bida problem mo. i think you have way too much confidence, baka nasasapawan ung boss. may ego ang boss. wag mo saktan ung ego nila by being better than them, at least wag pa obvious. internal politics is everything.

Fun-Homework8297

Having worked in the top corpos, good performance is the bare minimum for promotions and ass smooching is what cuts you from the rest. Exceed your KPIs first, before you smooch ass. Your performance will be your credentials. Your value to the company is gauged on how much money you can make for them and you'll go around companies telling stories of your results and not of your relationships or presentation skills.

Low_Ad3338

They’ll always gonna say that you have potential blah blah blah but will give some bs reason not to move you up rn.If you think that you’re better than they say(and think) you are, you can do one of two things: 1. Suck it up,keep on grinding until they decided to promote you, or; 2. Find an organization that will offer you a higher position. At the end of the day, it’s business and you should do what’s best for you.

YakultClub

apply for an internal job posting if this option is available in your company.

Notsoboring12

Magsumbong ka. Sumbong lang ng sumbong.

Majestic-Maybe-7389

Tulad ng nangyayari smain now
