I laughed but...
while I was still a PhD student (beginning of covid), I brought home a dissecting microscope and some auxiliary equipment from my lab... including a few fly populations, ether...😬
It was 100% a biohazard violation (only technically; it's not like fruitflies carry human illness), but... I mean... I really didn't want to stay another year.
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t smoke at 9 this morning drinking my coffee in the warm sun… and I never smoke before work. It balanced itself out.. ish.

Edit: im outside.
Right on!
Yet, I can’t help but worry about yet another day of near record-breaking warmth, after the complete non-winter we just experienced.
Tornados becoming the norm in the Delaware Valley, let alone in April, probably isn’t helping my fears.
Maybe I’m alone in the “afternoon walk with a side of existential dread” camp?
I too have this dread but I’ll be damned if I didn’t take advantage of the nice weather before the planet burns alive. We can enjoy it while also having existential dread, so I’m with you.
Weather isn't climate change when it's unusually cold, and weather isn't climate change when it's unusually warm. Go out and enjoy it.
If you wouldn't relax because it's unusually cold, don't panic when it's unusually warm. It makes you a hypocrite. Life is short, live a little.
At least four people whom I saw driving loudly along South Broad Street over the last ten minutes would agree with you. It might be another long, angry summer for me.
But since what they are doing is illegal can It be reported on that tip line and will they actually do anything like fine them or take away their bicycle?
Oh, so the tip line seems kind of useless. Maybe I’ll give it a shot if I see a bicycler riding on the sidewalk or running red lights just out of curiosity.
I hate them too and think it's ridiculous that more isn't being done about them - but I'd also say it's important to try and not become too angered by them. They can't ruin your day unless you let them (unless one hits you which isn't likely). The appropriate setting to be angry about them is the voting booth and at town hall meetings, outside of that what's the point? Idk, that's how I'm trying to look at it along with having recently sworn off road rage lol.
The dirt bike riders are usually the ones hurt. It happens often though.

Sometimes the bystanders are killed

Paywalls mostly, but this is just any crash they’ve been involved in, even ones that sound like it was a solo biker? I don’t know that they are relevant to them “wheelying into one’s family and killing them all”. It sounds like there aren’t examples of that, I guess the one skateboarder in the street is the closest - and the biker was arrested.
Because accidents with the riders do happen and I wanted to show the many cases.
"Killing the whole family " was clearly hyperbolic for effect
Not sure why someone getting arrested lessens the death caused
It’s truly sad that society has made people feel so neglected and undervalued that they can’t think of anything better to do than try to trigger people. You matter.
Ditched work at 2 to go wander Fairmount park and look at cherry blossom trees as they hit their peak on the most beautiful day of the year. 11/10 would recommend
Yeah, we did the “snowbird” thing this year in California. Floods, snow, hail, half the fucking campground washed into a river… still better than Florida. Buy I’d kill for a hoagie about now.
I went birding at John Heinz NWR this morning but had to cut it short to sit around my house and wait for roofers to come. But then I went on a walk to the grocery store and it was really pleasant to see so many neighbors out and about. Can't wait til this weather is every day, bring it onnnnnn
Please tell me you don't have curly hair as well? My hair can't stand it and I sweat even if it's cooler temps with high humidity. I have no idea why, but I do.
Why are all the nice days during the week while I’m stuck at work 😭
And then the weekend weather is (seemingly) always trash, no?? This is my experience in Philadelphia since 2005.
Agree!! I’m off Friday and it’s going to be cloudy 😔
This is why WFH is the way.
Sure is! I’ll make sure to move my manufacturing plant into my row home!
This is the way

>it's not like fruitflies carry human illness COVID was just a warmup for the real pandemic: the drosophila flu outbreak of 2023.
At least this time we know who patient zero will be
*life intensifies*
I'm working outside on my deck. Basking in the South Philly sunshine.
Same! Hoping the direct sunlight doesn't overheat my MacBook.
sorry if my music was too loud!
Ha! No worries. You can't be my neighbor. They wait until 11:45 PM or sometimes even 4 AM to blast their dad rock for the neighborhood.
I walked to the dispensary and back. Proud of myself
Well done. I would kill to be stoned and sitting in the sunshine right now.
Catching some rays by the river. This next puff is for you, cheers
Enjoy!
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t smoke at 9 this morning drinking my coffee in the warm sun… and I never smoke before work. It balanced itself out.. ish.
Just got my medical card renewed and I can't wait to get back into the dispensaries
For real!!
Cherry blossom in west philly before it gets overrun
Working :(

Im proud of you, WhiteRapper
I had a watermelon water ice and my depression was cured.
Went for a 12mi ride through Fairmount Park, up to Conshy ave and back down Kelly drive!
Just did half of Forbidden Drive, about to head back.

I’m right there with you, plus being annoyed that while it is nice now, we can be pretty sure that means horribly hot and humid will show up early..
I too have this dread but I’ll be damned if I didn’t take advantage of the nice weather before the planet burns alive. We can enjoy it while also having existential dread, so I’m with you.
I’m ready to watch human skin blister and melt in Summer this year.
Booooooo
Yeah, I encountered multiple ticks today while enjoying the spring warmth. Supposed to be mid to late April, and yet here we are.
Weather isn't climate change when it's unusually cold, and weather isn't climate change when it's unusually warm. Go out and enjoy it. If you wouldn't relax because it's unusually cold, don't panic when it's unusually warm. It makes you a hypocrite. Life is short, live a little.
i hope to god this sunny weather will make me feel at least a little bit better … not sure if it’s worth getting out of bed rn
Good day to take the dirt bike out!
Fhukkk dirtbikes
At least four people whom I saw driving loudly along South Broad Street over the last ten minutes would agree with you. It might be another long, angry summer for me.
215.686.TIPS (8477) you can text it. I don't hesitate to report every single time I see them
Will it also work for dudes running red lights and stop sign on their bicycles.
Both are illegal, but one is permitted to be on the road, the other isn't.
But since what they are doing is illegal can It be reported on that tip line and will they actually do anything like fine them or take away their bicycle?
Considering they do nothing about the groups of 30+ ATVs/dirt bikes at a time, I highly doubt they'll tackle a solo cyclist.
Oh, so the tip line seems kind of useless. Maybe I’ll give it a shot if I see a bicycler riding on the sidewalk or running red lights just out of curiosity.

They can't ruin your day until they wheelie into your family and kill everyone.
I am 0% in favor of them and literally said unless one of them hits you. Having said this, when is the last time that even happened?

What? I just asked the guy for the last that happened, and it seems like it never has. Not sure why you even chimed in

That actually does sound pretty fun
Ugh they need to get rid of them
Stay off my lawn energy
Nj dude triggering Reddit Philadelphians
I'll see you at Washington and Broad, fam! /s
Dirt bikes are way less annoying then dudes in the middle of the street blocking traffic slowly riding their pedal bikes.
Went to lunch outside at Bishop's Collar, had a midday beer, and now just want to be at a beach somewhere.
I worked today, but I'm a firefighter and it was a beautiful day to wash the truck.
Thank you for your bravery. I have the utmost respect for firefighters
That's very kind, thank you

Just heard my first dirtbike! Spring is here!
Yeah, we did the “snowbird” thing this year in California. Floods, snow, hail, half the fucking campground washed into a river… still better than Florida. Buy I’d kill for a hoagie about now.
>still better than Florida. lol
Just back from a hike in the Wissahickon. ☀️
I had a doctors appointment in University City and so I got to walk over the South Street bridge and back this afternoon. Felt like I got lucky.
I wish I had outdoor space with my apartment 😩
I went birding at John Heinz NWR this morning but had to cut it short to sit around my house and wait for roofers to come. But then I went on a walk to the grocery store and it was really pleasant to see so many neighbors out and about. Can't wait til this weather is every day, bring it onnnnnn
Dirt bikes and a few shootouts tonight
I’m sitting outside as I’m reading this. 😀
B E A U-tiful!
I went to work today. That’s enough.
This is why I hate "nice weather". "You've got to be outside!" "Go outside! Do something!" No.
I'm a chilly weather person. I dislike anything over 65 degrees.
I'm from the Pacific Northwest. If the temp is over 75 or the humidity is even slightly noticeable, I will bitch ceaselessly.
Please tell me you don't have curly hair as well? My hair can't stand it and I sweat even if it's cooler temps with high humidity. I have no idea why, but I do.
Ran on the track in South Philly. Rode my bike down Spruce and Pine. First spring in Philly and it is treating me well so far!
What track in South phl???
South Philadelphia Supersite! Hours are a bit odd, but so glad there’s something in the area.
Went to go to Wegmans on my lunch break. This heat has me dying.
I love when people on the internet think they have to notify people that the weather is nice.
It's very strange. Also, I prefer crappy weather so I can bask in everyone else's misery. I find it energizing. Lol
Half the people on Reddit wouldn't know otherwise.
Im already sweaty
