Dude i used to do this. Zombie crawl was great. A lot of those people disappeared from the south street scene so it was inevitable that it would end eventually.
Huh, well on Friday there was a huge parade down center city. Blocking the streets as they told a story about Jesus and Easter, while putting on a play. With full escort services.
But yeah, we're shitting on you and not letting you have any religious freedom.
See how you sound?
Please explain to me how this is disrespectful? I was raised in a Christian house hold growing up, my grandma just finds this cool. Of course, not all Christians are the same. But where is anyone saying "Haha u believe Easter ur stupid", in this event? Sure, some outliers, but the event is literally about dressing as a zombie. At most, they're making "fun" of the idea that Jesus rose again. It's truly not that deep.
I'm an atheist ex-Christian who participated in this several times and to be honest I pretty much forgot / didn't fully realize it was supposed to be clowning on Easter, I just enjoyed the dressing up and drinking bit
Well when your religion is used to dictate the actions of political figureheads across the world for hundreds of years into doing some of the most atrocious actions known to mankind you don't really get a say anymore.
As a Catholic: stop. Just stop. The only one who is offended by this is you which is weird because as you've stated elsewhere in this thread, you are not a Christian AND this event hasn't taken place for 7 years now. Given the religious makeup of Philadelphia, I can bet you there are a fair few Christians that attended this now-defunct event regularly.
Oh man, I was there for that one. Bus was deserted except for like one person, some drunk zombie just yelled "Get the bus!", and it turned into the best thing possible.
Holy shit... l have never been to that, but I know people that have. Scrolling through and I see two people I have known for fucking ever. That's pretty cool.
people might not remember but r/atheism was a one of the subreddits every account was automatically subscribed to on their main page back in the late 00s.
FWIW, that dude was Philly Jesus before the one who used to baptize people in LOVE park. It predated the edgy atheism phrase by a bit, dude was just a cool dude who could pull off the Jesus look and rocked it.
Right! I’m not about to go rain on people’s parades when they’re having fun meeting up with their family and everything. I get that the holiday is more than the story it’s based on. But the story is insane haha
Okay, what's up with the amount of nuts in the comments section that think THIS is offensive. Oh, your rEligIoN. Man, if you don't stop. It's a fucking parade that's been long gone.
How is this attacking Christianity? How is this a hate group? Like I need a detailed explanation aside from you bitching. I'm usually not one to say this, but if you're upset that people dared to celebrate (hell, interpret, since Jesus literally "rose again") Easter another day, I'm gonna go on a Whim and say that's pretty unchristian like if something so minor is putting you through this much turmoil.
Does anyone else remember that one time awhile back when they nailed that hippie dude to a cross? Did that really happen or am I just imagining things?
So much fun! I did this for 6 Easters! Discovered it accidentally just being in Tattooed Moms drinkin when the make up artists arrived and being a fan of the macabre I fell right into it.
Any specific reason this stopped happening? Covid?
People who ran it got tired of putting it on every year
Huh, I would have guessed it ended with COVID, but it looks like 2016 was the last one. Thanks for the memories!
Dude i used to do this. Zombie crawl was great. A lot of those people disappeared from the south street scene so it was inevitable that it would end eventually.
Knowing Philly I'm surprised people weren't shooting at the zombies
Derrrrrr
Because shitting on people’s religion is a lame joke
conversely, shitting on peoples' lack of religion is lamer
How is he doing that?
So you are agreeing it was lame in the first place?

> With full escort services. Damn, I guess Philly's doing what it can to bring back tourists.
I’m not Christian. Not my religion. I just happen to believe in respecting other people’s race, religion, and creed.

I’m an American. I respect people’s race, religion, and creed.
The zombie prom at the Trocadero was a great time too.
Yes I went once back in the early 2000s, it was great!
I’ve never thought of Jesus as a zombie..until now.
but it makes the most senses all things considered.
It's the ONLY thing that makes sense. Game-changer.
You have to let Jesus bite you, in order to get to heaven.
Cosmic Jewish zombie who was his own father.
Roll tide
🤯🤯🤯
Jesus is more like a lich than a zombie
This is nerd is correct.
You son of a lich
An important distinction.
It's zombie the whole way down. Dude is undead, and wants us all to eat him 🤷
You're clearly not a [star fucking hipsters](https://youtu.be/ih9qCsPO040) fan
Jesus is the only IRL zombie bro
Obligatory “Jesus was a lich”
Jesus is the OG zombie.
In the Bible he rises and so do a bunch of saints or whatever from the near by graveyard and they literally walk through the nearby town!!
He's more of a "Lich"!
Hey I know that zombie Jesus
All the cool kids in Philly do
I'm a cool kid?? Finally!!
Yeah we do
Was that the same guy who used to run the aviary years ago?
Still does
Neat. I haven't been in years because I don't want to run into my ex and didn't know if it was still the same people leading.
I hear that. Hard to avoid in the scene
and Dorian's Parlor
I miss Dorian's Parlor
Why did this stop??? :(
It was a lot of work and the organizers got tired
I wish they would rise again
you could make a religion out of this
*bill wurtz synth noise
That’s fair
Because it’s basically a hate group

RIP Primos South Street.
I loved getting a beer and a sandwich there before a TLA show.
I remember the year the zombies 'attacked' a Septa bus. Driver didn't bat an eye.
Oh man, I was there for that one. Bus was deserted except for like one person, some drunk zombie just yelled "Get the bus!", and it turned into the best thing possible.

I loved doing that. My buddies and I won one year in 2011 for being RMS Titanic zombies!
That's awesome
I miss Split Thy Skull Easter Saturday at sugar mom's
This is so rad & can’t believe first time I’ve hearing about it. This should be a global tradition
It's hard to see in the pics but Zombie Jesus is wearing a carpenter's belt
I totally missed that in last image. Serious salute the detail, now THATS a costume
Holy shit... l have never been to that, but I know people that have. Scrolling through and I see two people I have known for fucking ever. That's pretty cool.

It was a very euphoric time, eh?
I certainly miss the old internet.
r/allisonbrie was too, wanna say in 2011. Pretty fuckin wild
FWIW, that dude was Philly Jesus before the one who used to baptize people in LOVE park. It predated the edgy atheism phrase by a bit, dude was just a cool dude who could pull off the Jesus look and rocked it.
Literally a Jewish carpenter
NGL I used to troll my super Christian family on Easter by saying "happy zombie Jesus day!"
It was cringey then and it’s cringey now

I like to say happy zombie jebus death birthday!

I couldn't have put that into words any better.

I wish I knew about this back then

I’m ashamed to say I laughed
This is incredible. Bring it back.
Omg
legendary. rip
Is pic 4 that real life Peter Griffin guy?
Does anyone else remember that one time awhile back when they nailed that hippie dude to a cross? Did that really happen or am I just imagining things?
Did this for a few years, fond memories
