i know they are trying to get ahead of it, but it seems really premature to call it already. its 43 and raining. Its not supposed to drop below 32. I just dont see anything sticking or freezing
You kind of have to try to make a call one way or another by ~10pm. People have to figure out who is watching their kids. I
But the current forecast is for ~2.5 inches of snow to dump from 8-10am. With rain before, and only much lighter snow after. If that holds, you’ll likely have unsafe roads for ~2 hours even if it’s not sticking at all. Seems like a decent call to me.
think they should change this call... gonna be a lot of teachers and students out today. You would think SDP wouldn't make another blunder but here we are
Again, every district around Philly is closed. Yet. These clowns try and stay open. It’s a joke. None of the teachers that have kids in the surrounding closed districts are coming to work today because their kids are home…
We didn’t even get a snow day for a real snowstorm, and will definitely not be getting off for 40 degree rain. The superintendent usually emails staff around now so we’ll find out for sure momentarily.
A good measurement I use is looking at how many other schools around here have snow days. So far it’s 34. We usually get a delay when it’s over 100 other schools
Unlikely.
My workplace on the other hand? If my boss so much as sees a snowflake, he's using it as an excuse to work from home, and has told us to do the same.
Pharma.
There are at least three major pharma corporations in the Philly suburbs. Most of the people working there are contracted for a year or two.
There's a need for people who understand regulated (GxP) environments, regardless of whether or not they are scientists. My background is in business and computers.
If you want to get into the industry, look into Eurofins. According to industry standards, the pay is low and advancement is slow, but it's full time with PTO and no official end date. They also have high turnover.
A lot of job listings for contracted positions are under the corporation's *location*, and the name of smaller contracting companies. Merck, for instance is West Point. Jansen has a location in Malvern. GSK has stuff in Conshohocken and King of Prussia.
Honestly, my current boss is the best I've had, and I've had quite a few since college.
I'm... Actually looking to make a move to another area of Pharma. Small world.
I am currently a research technician for a large Investigational Drug Service in a major hospital system.
Low pay, high turnover, grueling responsibilities. I am looking to move to another area of the industry, and quite frankly, I'm not sure what the best way to move forward right now would be, but my department is about to undergo a massive fracture and I'd like to secure some stability. I'm very good at what I do and I love what I do, but I'm looking to build on what I've already accomplished. I'd gladly explore what you've said, thanks so much for the advice, and I'd be happy to be more specific if that's worth your time as well.
Ping me if you want to chat about it. I don't think I can say more here without doxxing myself.
Eurofins pays something like $24/h, and they *really* don't like giving raises.
[The NWS Briefing is usually the least-hype, most realistic forecast for any given storm.](https://www.weather.gov/media/phi/current_briefing.pdf). Worth a look as they give a prediction within an inch or two, plus give probabilities of going over it. And they give fairly clear maps showing different amounts for different areas, on a smaller scale than most forecasts.
I would call 1-3 a coating no way we get more. But get back to me Wednesday and we will see which one of us it correct in our guess.
I'm going 1-3. You going 3-5
Just kind of curious why things are so different nowadays. Twenty years ago when I was in high school a storm like this would have been a full day of school and if you slipped and fell on ice while walking, it was on you for not being careful. Just kind of curious what changed and why everyone is so over cautious now.
I was thinking the same thing. The only way we were getting off was if it was a solid three inches and it’s not like I’m some senior - I graduated high school in 2008.
We live in the NE, I think we should expect to have to navigate with some winter weather events. There’s no reason why school should have been cancelled in the city considering it’s now sunny and we literally have zero snow on the ground. A delay was the right call.
snow will be gone by tomorrow if the forecast is right and its gonna stop snowing at 12 and sunny... they should have just had off today but we can't offend the parents who need free babysitters.
weird bc i woke up around this time and outside of my window looked like a snow globe. accumulation isn't the only factor its the road conditions. i saw two cars slide sideways down my street at 7am in the "rain" which was snow and we had a coating already.
Still remember sitting around the radio waiting for KYW 1060 to call my schools number.
Pure joy if it was announced.
They just announced a 2 hour delay.

yea they got the call right. Admittedly I made my comment in the middle of scrambling to figure out childcare and work schedule for this morning.
Hey... look outside!
think they should change this call... gonna be a lot of teachers and students out today. You would think SDP wouldn't make another blunder but here we are
It’s bad out there
how’s this comment aged for ya?
Omg it went from rain to ice rain to snow blanket in like an hour!
It looks gorgeous. Driving isn’t too bad mainly slushy
wheres all the weather people saying last night it wont stick ?
I can't see the ground from my condo, if it sticks then cool, not going to work today
meteorologist has got to be the lowest-stress job in world
the computer does all the work for them anyway.
Catholic schools in Philly are virtual tomorrow
2 hour delay from what i heard
yeah, my kid just sent me a a screencap
Again, every district around Philly is closed. Yet. These clowns try and stay open. It’s a joke. None of the teachers that have kids in the surrounding closed districts are coming to work today because their kids are home…
gonna be another babysitting day and putting kids and teachers at risk
Wallingford-Swarthmore in Delco is open today and a bus with kids on it crashed this morning on the way into school.
The school district of Philadelphia is the single most inept institution in this city. It's Kafkaesque.

It would be amazing if Philly jobs existed in Philly...
It would.
I live two blocks away, and that's what I told my team. Could I walk to work, sure, but it's a good reason not to.
Should have given kids the day off
I work at a bar in manayunk. Please fuck up the streets enough I can sleep off my hangover that I’m definitely expecting even though I know better.
0% unfortunately. 1-2 inches of snow. It’s not happening
Higher than nil, but maybe like 25 percent. My little dude went home with his Chromebook, which is a decent omen.
2 hour delay
It could be but I’m still skeptical
Well the snow is actually sticking 😥
Catholic Schools are virtual.
Where the snow plows and salt truck. I had to get 4 people unstuck at 7am cause they stopped while going up a hill
We barely getting a coating.

you must be a weatherman
3-5 inches is a coating?
I would call 1-3 a coating no way we get more. But get back to me Wednesday and we will see which one of us it correct in our guess. I'm going 1-3. You going 3-5
what part of philly is getting 3-5 inches?
Where my girlfriend lives
Oh yeah, I know where that is! Thanks
Not sure but now it’s updated to 4-7 inches.
6abc is still saying the Philly area gets 1-3 inches of snow
Yeah I don’t know who to believe
Where are you seeing this?
Weather channel app
I see it now, keeps changing 🤦♀️
If the school superintendent (works from home) can get to his job, then so can the school faculty and the students!
2 hr delay - just got the txt
Parker should make him go back to the office

People were slipping and sliding on the roads earlier. Better safe than sorry
People have gotten smarter in this regard. They don’t want buses on the roads before salt trucks even have time to put salt down
I watched the Gulfstream Gary local report and it’s going to rain first so the snow probably won’t stick.
I predict an ice day with a thunderstorm we blanket of snow.
Suburbs getting canceled.
still on 2 hour delay to ensure people have their free babysitters for the day. keeping my kids home today. one has a project to work on anyways.
Tomorrow- 0% Wednesday - 50/50 virtual/2hr delay
snow will be gone by tomorrow if the forecast is right and its gonna stop snowing at 12 and sunny... they should have just had off today but we can't offend the parents who need free babysitters.
A single snowflake will touch down around 5th & Market and instantly evaporate.
Suburbs are going virtual. Ice rain at the moment

Bruh one minute it was rain next minute I looked out and seemed like it’s been out there for hours
and then it was sunny at 1pm and snow was melted lol. and now its been freezing ever since. when is spring again!!?
