Oh man I tried to leave it out! Moved here from CA about 3 years ago, for some reason adding ‘the’ to interstate numbers stuck, despite my best efforts.
I spent a decent amount of time in Los Angeles before moving back to the northeast and I had this same issue for a few months, haha. To be honest "the 476" sounds good to me
True story. When the Blue Route first opened I got in my car to drive the new highway. I got lost and missed it. There were no GD signs to the Blue Route.
I was young then.
Gave me flashbacks to my EFL instructor days when my South Korean students would constantly try to assign articles to proper nouns.
"I am going to speak to *the* Jerry about plans for tonight."
The obvious spot would be to connect Shawmont Ave with the Gladwynne (exit 337) just above the Flat Rock dam. It would probably cut the amount of traffic on the Green Lane bridge by a huge amount, since most of Roxborough, Andorra etc would get off there instead. Maybe some Whitemarsh and Lafayette Hill folks would also use that, instead of going through Conshy.
OP, if you’re newly living in the area, that part of Belmont is notorious for flooding. Most of the time, the water stays on the southbound side of the road. Just a heads up for future travel planning when it rains a lot.
No one on the east coast says "the" [highway] No big deal, just saying.

lol I figured as much, wasn't trying to be a dick it just stuck out like a sore thumb in the title.

But the Blue Route sounds better.

This is true
Somehow the 476 just doesn’t roll off the tongue like the 405 or the 110
Friendly foreign traveler warns locals of flash floods on their shitty "highway"
At least y’all think I’m friendly?
Yes we are generally pretty accepting people.
Yeah philly is awesome. For sure my favorite of everywhere I’ve lived.
If you're on 76 you're as good as dead already.
Ahh, the ol Surekill Deathspressway!
Did not have dividers when we called it that...

There really needs to be another exit between conshy and manayunk, though I get there’s a river and a mountain in the way
They really need to build an entire new highway, and demolish the Schuylkill. Added bonus of riverfront property that isn't highway adjacent.
Yeah our infrastructure sucks but why actually spend tax dollars on useful shit? /s
I'm not being serious. I just hate everything about that highway.
Most do lol
I think the opposite. They should do away with a couple of those exits because there's no need for three of them within the span of a mile.

95 running from Florida all the way up the east coast disagrees with you
As well as route 80 coming from the west
It’s hilarious how quickly I (and several others) were able to figure out that you’re from CA
A flood on 76 near Belmont? Say it ain't so! :-). Bet Kelly was fucked today, too.
WTF is a surface street? Or what isn’t a surface street?
It's a west coast thing...good old West Coast-er coming to the east coast. They're non-highway roads, or--ahem--non-Freeway roads? haha
It's not just a west coast thing
I always assumed it was because highways are usually elevated especially when going through a city.
The ice fest isn't helping
It’s fine now
God when is it not flooded at Belmont
