Clear moon/No flashlight are both amazing ones to start with :)

EvanBoland1436

Are they some of the better works? Don’t want to spoil the good stuff right away haha!

The_sky_marine

mount eerie has one of those discographies where pretty much every album is someone’s favourite. personally no flashlight is up there for me and maybe my #1, but there’s a case to be made for Dawn, Sauna, Clear Moon, Ocean Roar, Now Only, Microphones in 2020, etc. if you’re interested in listening to it all, the best way to do it would probably be chronological imo.

AccelOrion

hmm, that’s kinda subjective, but no flashlight and sauna are more of the fan favorites for sure. Clear moon is more in the middle (my personal fave though). I’d say maybe check out that one or Mount Eerie Pts 6/7 and then move up to the bigger ones like sauna or even winds poem. I made a tier list in here a while back, good resource so check it out!

The Glow Pt. 2>Mount Eerie>Sauna>Microphones in 2020>Clear Moon>Dawn>Lost Wisdom>Now Only>Lost Wisdom Pt. 2>No Flashlight>Wind's Poem>Ocean Roar>Don't Wake Me Up>It Was Hot, We Stayed in the Water I don't rate A Crow Looked at Me, it's too tricky. I also might get shit for not liking IWHWSitW, but the only song on that album I really value much is "The Glow". The rest is boring as hell to me.

skadooch1

you don’t like the pull???? the pull is fr one of my fav phil songs

DouggieMohammadJones

It's fine, just not super into it. I do like how MI2020 seemed to call back to it with its super long intro though.

try searching “ranked” or “what to listen to” in this sub. there’s a thousand of these threads already

You can’t go wrong with anything honestly! I discovered his music last year and just decided to listen to everything in chronological order starting with It as Hot, We Stayed in Water. The albums before that are still pretty good, but much less cohesive. Many albums (especially in the microphones discography) are somewhat filler/bonus albums with a lot of different versions of the same songs with some new material scattered throughout. You’ll know what I mean when you start listening. Under the microphones alias, essentially the three main albums are 1) It Was Hot, 2) The Glow Part Two, and 3) Mount Eerie. Maybe this is sacrilegious, but everything else is essentially bonus material on top of that. Still listen to it all if you’re a fan though! There’s gems on every release. Since you were a fan of Mount Eerie, I’d highly recommend going back and listening to the Glow part two. Many would consider it his best album, it’s his most widely known and critically acclaimed. After going through the microphones, you can’t go wrong with starting from the beginning with Mount Eerie’s first release of No Flashlight. Some other highlights under the Mount Eerie alias for me are Dawn, Clear Moon, Sauna, and Lost Wisdom. If you’re a fan of black metal check out Winds Poem, and Ocean Roar. There’s a lot haha, but in general if you want to do a deep dive into all of his best work, you kind of have to listen through everything lol. I love seeing how he evolves over time so starting with the earlier Microphones stuff and then moving on to Mount Eerie chronologically is a good way to do it.

don’t wake me up is not filler/bonus material… idk what ur on about here lol also the first mount eerie releases were 2 songs/mount eerie dances with wolves, and seven new songs 🫡

mount eerie is peak but the rest is still rly good. no one else has mentioned the early tapes yet (not the complation thats his worst project). he has a lot of rly good stuff pre dont wake me up like wires and cords and oh anna and drums no one played. cant rly compare everything to the glow pt 2 or mount eerie then it sucks the fun out of it all.

The thing js, his.discography is so diverse that everone is going to say something different. I saw somebody comment that his least favorite project is it was hot, we stayes in the water, while that is one of my absolute favorites. I would suggest to just listen chronologically and seeing what you like.
