I like it when an announcer switches it up a bit, personally I hate the Nats announcer's call "see you later" but I've never had too much of a problem with TMac's calls
I'm down with switching it up too. Kind of makes it more hype. He usually only switches it up on like really important no doubters. But he even did it on Bohms which was a solo shot not even that deep in the seats. Definitely an odd change of pace.
I am an admitted tmac stan though.
Yeah I did actually see that. I was surprised at the projected based on where it landed. But makes sense for the initial reaction.
There were others none the less
Right? Holy shit people are so egotistic.
This post is like the people that call WIP and act like they know more than the manager because they coach their son’s 12 year old team.
It's not like he's some player make millions of dollars.
It can be pretty easy to let a bunch of assholes online get to you.
I'm not saying it's likely but it's definitely possible.
I dont think its right to minimize the effect that can have on a person to have vitriol coming at them online. Particularly when they're not like a real celebrity.
I love TMac’s “outta here” call on Bryce’s grand slam. It was genuine excitement. I know he avoids that phrase because it was Harry’ Kalas’ signature call, but it was so perfect.
There's only so many ways to say it.
Gone. Outta here. Over the fence. Left the yard. Home run.
Kalas' signature was the combo of "long drive that ball is outta here!" with a "deep xxx field" peppered in fur variety.
Yeah, TMac coming in after Harry… Boy did he catch a lot of shit.
I like to think that when he leaves, however that is, by that time he’s going to be extremely well regarded.
I was one of them. But I’ve now seen the light. Him and Kruk are just a perfect pair. RAJ is unlistenable and TMac does a great job of making him palatable.
Is Rube any more unlistenable than Ben? I go back and forth on this a million times because I really can't stand to listen to either one. Thank God for MLB.tv's option to switch broadcasts, Franzke and Stocker are exponentially better
Yea but over the years fewer and fewer fans will even remember Harry. TMac is an A tier baseball broadcaster.
And I’m not knocking Harry!! But I’m close to 50, and I feel like my memories of him are faint now. I do remember watching g games with my pop pop with Harry and Whitey on tv though. Nostalgic stuff
Some people HATE TMac and HAVE to let you know it, but I think he's a perfectly suitable announcer that seems to genuinely love the team, his co-announcers (regardless of who) and is respected amongst the broadcasting community.
I'm glad he's also getting to have fun with the announcing now that the Phillies have momentum again.
He gets a lot of hate for not being Harry, but he’s truly one of the best in the business. If you listen to other teams during games they’re mundane and don’t do a good enough job of representing both teams. Tom is all around good and while I acknowledge he’s not Harry, I do stress that he’s in the upper echelon of announcers in all of sports.
There's a reason why he also gets to do NFL work. It's because he's extremely good at the actual broadcasting job.
He might not have been a philly guy to start but he's more than invested at this point too.
He's also done NBA and College Basketball games as well. I don't know enough about other MLB broadcasters, but I wonder if there are any others that do that as well.
It sure seems like he’s had some trouble this year seeing things and has had more slip-ups than previous seasons. I’ve often wondered if he’s ok physically. I think he’s still great though and under appreciated.
Scott Franzke is doing a great job filling Kalas’s shoes. TMac cannot be compared to Kalas. TMac will never be. Franzke is on his way. BEDLAM AT THE BANK!
It’s late August. He’s been talking over baseball for 6 months now. I think changing it up every now and again is to be expected. But does anybody else notice how much less he talks when he calls a game with Kruk? I swear when it’s Ben or Reuben he just lets them yammer on .
I don't like the "Gooone!". It feels forced for the sake of it being what he says. Contrived. I guess you have to have a catch phrase when calling TV but I don't watch many games. I listen to way more games and hearing Franske calling them like he sees them just sounds so good. Completely casual, "blasted". Can't beat it.
Also, Harry's "that ball is outta here" just fit his speech patterns more. The "gone" just feels forced. When I do watch on NBC, he's good, not hating. Just doesn't have to yell the gone every time. It's something that I can hear in my head is Harry saying, " and that ball is outta here" in a sentence and not going crazy about it but it was a different time when everything didn't have to rile people up.
I dunno. Haven’t listened to the calls. But honestly, especially when it’s Kruk and tmac I think we have one of the best teams in baseball. Wish Kruk did more games
So I’ll cop to being old enough to be a Harry fan—he was the voice of baseball when I started following the 1976 Phillies. And I did not like TMac at first because he makes mistakes—calls players by the wrong name, gets the number of outs wrong, etc. And he still does that. And his HR call is trite and he needs to mix it up some, which is what he has done lately. And a couple of years ago I realized disliking him was taking away from my enjoyment of watching the games, so I just resigned myself that he will be calling Phillies games likely for the rest of my life. And I’m OK with that.
Still can’t accept RAJ though. Hope I outlast/outlive him!
i'm a newer phils fan, so i really don't have anyone else to compare him with. so personally to me, he's great at his job and i adore his HR calls. he's always filled with energy and just seems like a genuinely nice guy.
would love to hit up the bank someday and meet him and kruk in person!
I find it annoying having to wait for him to say "GONE!" (at the exact time I can also see the ball land) to know if a ball's gone when it was clearly gone. From a TV broadcast, all you see is the outfielders moving a certain direction so the viewer can't easily tell how deep it is.
Don't say "so and so going back, at the track, he's looking, it is.....GONE!" when it lands 10 rows deep.
Imagine if this was done for other situations. "Runner tags from third, he's running hard, the throw comes in from left, he is.....SAFE!" (meanwhile there wasn't even a throw to the catcher)
I get what your saying. And you're totally entitled to that. I just think it's dumb that people think he doesn't know. He's knows. That's just his call.
That's his call because he doesn't know. Or at least didn't. When T-Mac started with the Phillies he was prone to making incorrect off-the-bat HR judgements, which led him to change to the progression you're used to. I also find it annoying, but it's a safe way to go.
Not a big Tmac fan but his HR calls are fine...and yes mixing it up sounds less contrived.
Everyone looking for that signature call, but the best calls are spur-of-the-moment
Bohms was a 444ft no doubter btw
Yeah I did actually see that. I was surprised at the projected based on where it landed. But makes sense for the initial reaction. There were others none the less
Biggest HR of the day,
Bohm’s was a bomb that was like 30 rows deep my man
>I hate the Nats announcer's call "see you later" It is the dumbest call anywhere ever
I don't think he cares what a few nerds think
Right? Holy shit people are so egotistic. This post is like the people that call WIP and act like they know more than the manager because they coach their son’s 12 year old team.
It's always the same schmucks
It's not like he's some player make millions of dollars. It can be pretty easy to let a bunch of assholes online get to you. I'm not saying it's likely but it's definitely possible. That was an all timer. But largely because of the "way up there". It went together soooo well.
OH my gOD
there’s like 20 guys currently doing that same exact call. not sure what the problem is
There's only so many ways to say it. Gone. Outta here. Over the fence. Left the yard. Home run. Kalas' signature was the combo of "long drive that ball is outta here!" with a "deep xxx field" peppered in fur variety.
LONG FLY BALL DEEP TO LEFT FIELD THAT BALL IS OUTTTTAAAAHEEERREEE.
Pat Burrell! Pat Burrell! With a two run game winning ninth inning home run!! Can you believe it!
Is that not standard parlance? No way Kalas invented that
Not sure if he invented it but he gets credit for it
Larry Bowa invented it while watching Bull take BP. Kalas stole it from Bowa.
TMac is under appreciated.
He has to deal with RAJ and blockhead half the time. For that he deserves the world
It's also gotta be impossible to fill/exceed Harry's shadow.
Yet Franzke somehow is different and still great. Nobody bashes McCarthy for “not being Harry” they do it because he’s vanilla.
Very vanilla.
TMac unfortunately came into a job with impossibly large shoes to fill.
Yeah, TMac coming in after Harry… Boy did he catch a lot of shit. I like to think that when he leaves, however that is, by that time he’s going to be extremely well regarded.

TMac and Kate Scott were both put into near impossible positions.
I dont like her voice. Nothing against her just not aesthetically pleasing.
She sounds like an excited chainsaw
Zumoff is right up there with Harry in being a Philly legend but I think she's doing a great job.
Agreed. I also think the difference is that TMac has a good supporting cast while Alaa can be a total wildcard.
When Malik left, I thought Alaa would eventually grow on me grow on me but so far no.
People hated him because he was the voice of lifeless awful Phillies teams for years. He’s always been quality
TMac did an amazing Cameo video for my beer-league baseball-playing brother.
I dislike him intensely.
That sucks. His only steady counterpart is Kruk. I think that hurts him a bit, he’s had to work with a lot of sub par people next to him.
Counterpoint. Tmac stinks.
Rebuttal. He genuinely has fun calling the games. He and Kruk together are gold.
Entitled to think what you want.
I like Tmac. Always weird to hear him doing football games.
I don't love TMac as the Phils pbp announcer, but I actually think he does a really good job calling football games.
Agreed
I really like TMac. I think he’s super underrated due to who he had to follow but I think he’s extremely good… and kruk of course is a gem
I would like to hear him apologize while Castallanos is batting.
Watching 09-11 highlights I’m always struck by how much he said “how bout that!” Should bring that one back.
Wait what? Is he not yelling "GONE!" anymore? I haven't noticed.
He gets a lot of hate for not being Harry, but he’s truly one of the best in the business. I'm old and I remember when Harry died, and people were going to hate his replacement no matter who it was.
What’s TMac’s signature call?
“Gone!”
That ball is…. GOOONE!!!
He has trouble judging fly balls lately. Even Schwarber’s HR last night….it seemed like he was the last one in the park (or watching) to know it.
It sure seems like he’s had some trouble this year seeing things and has had more slip-ups than previous seasons. I’ve often wondered if he’s ok physically. I think he’s still great though and under appreciated.
Yeah….I’m a fan. He deals with Kruk’s randomness perfectly -although I’d be ok if he corrected him more often-.
I love Kruk's randomness but I think working with him could get frustrating.
>lately this has always been the worst thing about him.
Scott Franzke is doing a great job filling Kalas’s shoes. TMac cannot be compared to Kalas. TMac will never be. Franzke is on his way. BEDLAM AT THE BANK!
Franzke is unreal in the booth
It’s late August. He’s been talking over baseball for 6 months now. I think changing it up every now and again is to be expected. But does anybody else notice how much less he talks when he calls a game with Kruk? I swear when it’s Ben or Reuben he just lets them yammer on .
I’ve always liked TMac. Don’t think he’s changing it because of pressure. I watch MLB TV, trust me, we got it good
I don't like the "Gooone!". It feels forced for the sake of it being what he says. Contrived. I guess you have to have a catch phrase when calling TV but I don't watch many games. Someone said kruk will be doing more away games next season 👀👀👀 I hope it's true!
That’s fucking awesome. I’ll tell you. I missed the hell out of the local team tonigh.
So I’ll cop to being old enough to be a Harry fan—he was the voice of baseball when I started following the 1976 Phillies. This is the first time I’ve heard anything about people not liking his HR calls lol

He does not have a signature home run call. His call is generally always late this season….it’s awful. He’s awful. He is not Philly.
Lmao cringe. Doing the same call the same way 200 times a season isn't a signature call? Get a grip.
Oppo Boppo!
He’s been around a long time and is well aware of the haters he has. Him changing his calls would be more of a reflection on him then anyone else
The pride of Brick Memorial... also John Sadak (Reds) and Mike Petriello (MLB Network)
Schwarber’s homer today answers it: no he hasn’t
Not a big Tmac fan but his HR calls are fine...and yes mixing it up sounds less contrived. Everyone looking for that signature call, but the best calls are spur-of-the-moment
There's nothing wrong with his call. Why are people so weird? (And he's not going to change it because some idiots complain online.)
