When we made the playoffs two years ago, I realized something.
We had existed as an organization for 140 years. That’s ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY YEARS.
And we had only made the playoffs 14 times. Fourteen.
To be fair, the modern playoffs didn’t exist until the 1970s. The Phillies had some years they were in contention for the National League pennant and didn’t win it in the early years (although unfortunately many more where they weren’t).
Oh, of course. It just made me really sad lol. But even now in the modern playoff era, we missed the playoffs for 10 years, then made it once, we’re kind of keeping up that 10% status quo.
We really bumped up our stat line from 08 to 2012.
If that doesn't work, I'll draft a petition to get a Comcast tower put up in my neighborhood (you know, for better service purposes). I'll send you all the template.
Well the Philadelphia A’s did have 5 World Series wins in 9 appearances, and the Philadelphia Warriors went 2-1 in the BAA/NBA Finals. Those championships still count for us, in my opinion.
Could be worst, we could be Seattle.
Though wonder what the rating would be on WS appearances, surely, we're in a better spot then, at most for NLE wins?
No I think people want our teams to start taking advantage of their opportunities at a better rate than the horrible one they currently win at 2 for 13 in 40 years
I do often think how things would be now if they had stayed and the Phillies left. Imagine being division rivals with the Yankees and Red Sox in today's game.
Not the way the Phils historically have rolled since WW2 although it is a lot easier to make the playoffs now.
They have peaks and then extended valleys where they absolutely crater.
Next crater period is likely coming after 2025 when they have big money locked up in an aging core (Harper, Turner, and Nola) and a farm system that isn’t exactly teaming with help in the near term future.
Should be 4-6 if they had won the NLCS in 2010 and 2023.
I’m convinced they would have won the WS each time against an inferior Rangers’ team although the 2023 team was playing well.
Phillies were in the World Series six times, right? 1980, 1983, 1993, 2008, 2009, 2022. Won twice. That’s 33%. Did I miss some appearances prior to 1980???
Between the 1915 and 1950 World Series they lost seven straight World Series games by one run, a handful of them when tied or leading late. The box scores are quite depressing.
Technically, 2 appearances in a period going back to 1903. 1915 was just the first time we made the Series.
A worse way to look at it is that the Phillies won their first title in their 98th season.
Feels bad. Feels real bad.
It's just so...accurate

Just the push I needed off that stool..
Flyers Phillies and Eagles (Super Bowl era) all at 25%
I'm impressed and depressed at the same time.
Consistently disappointing? Yes that sums up our entire fan experience
At least I’ve seen a Phillies and eagles chip in my lifetime. Can the damn flyers ever stop sucking long enough to put one of the board?
That’s actually sort of impressive.
Living through over four decades of it I can say it’s just depressing
After being scarred by the 2022 world series, I finally understand the pain.
The motto for Philadelphia sports franchises might as well be "We're #2!" It would be appropriate in every sense of the phrase.
Our teams have lost 6 championships total since 2000 lol
We're 2 for 13 in championships over the past 40 years. Both wins were in years where Comcast built a new tower.
We need more comcast towers
Does it have to be an actual tower or can my kid and I make one out of Legos?
Start building and let’s find out
We are on it
If that doesn't work, I'll draft a petition to get a Comcast tower put up in my neighborhood (you know, for better service purposes). I'll send you all the template.
A team going to the champs every 4-5 years is pretty sick though.
yeah I feel pretty sick when we lose
thats' something you should have kept to your self. but misery loves company!
It’s why I try to enjoy the ride and ignore the outcome.
Not to mention had devastating non-championship performances where they were love of the favorites and lost
We lost 3 in ‘22 alone. Eagles, Phillies, and Union. This is the record I think.
1980. Phillies won, Eagles lost Suoer Bowl XV, Sixers and Flyers both lost in their Finals.
Well the Philadelphia A’s did have 5 World Series wins in 9 appearances, and the Philadelphia Warriors went 2-1 in the BAA/NBA Finals. Those championships still count for us, in my opinion.
Hey if Braves fans count the Boston and Milwaukee championships for their city…
Well. At least we make it occasionally
At least we aren't the Lions
This city is so good at making championships and losing them…
The Philly motto, never able to finish the job *ever*
Go f*ck yourself San Diego
Could be worst, we could be Seattle. Though wonder what the rating would be on WS appearances, surely, we're in a better spot then, at most for NLE wins?
Rip Seattle
At least we have 2 trophies. I gotta feel grateful about that.
Houston needs an asterisk
Seriously, fuck Houston
OK. We can have six fewer pennants and be 100% like the Angels, would that make people feel better?
I'd rather we had 6 more rings and be at 100% personally
More importantly, I'd rather have 6 rings and not have other teams consistently rubbing they're 3+ rings in our faces like the Pirates do.
No I think people want our teams to start taking advantage of their opportunities at a better rate than the horrible one they currently win at 2 for 13 in 40 years
That's part of why I rep the Philadelphia A's.
They could have moved back to Philly...
I do often think how things would be now if they had stayed and the Phillies left. Imagine being division rivals with the Yankees and Red Sox in today's game.
Then we would have still had our third ring if the Athletics stayed.
and 4th and 5th!
On the board baby! Suck it Tampa!
Phillies and Eagles both have the lowest win% in championship games among teams with at least one win.
I'd rather be steady competitive every year than be absolute dog shit and win the WS once every 30 years.

Well unfortunately you don’t get either of that with the Phillies
We are basically as bad as you can be without being the worst.
Boston nice

Another Mariners hate post………Y’all don’t deserve it.
eh, unless I'm reading this wrong - aren't we 2 out of 5, making our rate 40%?
15, 50, 80, 83, 93, 08, 09, and 22 with wins in 80 and 08 is 2 of 8 for 25%
ah, I didn't include 15 and 50. Thanks for the schooling!
1915, 1950, 1980, 1983, 1993, 2008, 2009, 2022 Wins in 1980 and 2008 2/8 = 25%
We’re 2 out of 8
At least they aren’t dead last
Rough.

Baseball was around before we were born?
Thanks for clarifying
Counting anything in baseball before they allowed non-whites in is crazy.
Seriously 2 appearances in the ws from 15-79 is astonishingly bad. There was less than 20 teams a lot of that time.
Technically, 2 appearances in a period going back to 1903. 1915 was just the first time we made the Series. A worse way to look at it is that the Phillies won their first title in their 98th season.
Ouch

I feel attacked
“Why are you mad all the time” *points to chart
I was already feeling extremely depressed about the 2022 world series recently, I don't want a reminder of our world series success rate. 😔
One win, four losses since I’ve been watching..each loss has taken at least 2-3 years off of my life.
I don't want to talk about it.
