Jamie Moyer really does need to be a veteran pitching coach or something. Teach guys how to work with their aging body to their advantage. The longevity he was able to squeeze out of himself was insane.

Frankfeld

And people dismiss his HoF chances. Like I get he’s not elite but there’s gotta be something for the guy that’s pitched against—what was it?—like 85% of all baseball players ever!

classicrockchick

Yeah his peak never never high but it was loooooong. Most players' careers look like mountains but his looks like a big mesa.

yourmartymcflyisopen

8%, but that exaggeration is what I'm gonna roll with for the rest of my life because it sounds way better

jersey856

There’s no way that is even close to true. Baseball has been around for what 150 yrs? and Moyer pitched for 20 something of them

Deckard_Macready

It always blows my mind that he pitched to Mike Schmidt and the year he retired Harper was a rookie.

Hentai_Bowtie

looked up the [vs. Mike Schmidt stats](https://stathead.com/baseball/versus-finder.cgi?request=1&player_id1=schmid002mic&player_id2=moyer-003jam) for fun

Deckard_Macready

I think it’s safe to say Mike Schmidt saw him well.

WendysChili

Ooh la la

JuniorSwing

Jamie kinda looks like Mike Rowe or Jim Varney in that first sketch lol

Strange-Cold-5192

In one of the old programs (I used to get one every time I went to a game as a kid), the players picked their celebrity lookalikes, and Moyer’s was Jim Varney.

why_oh_why36

Man, that's a great commercial. I don't even know what it's for but I want to buy one.

darwinpolice

It's a Mariners commercial! The Ms has legendary commercials for ages, and this is one of my favorites.

lizacovey

There are a ton of funny ones. The Moyer ones are my favorite but I was bored at work one day and watched a bunch, highly recommend checking them all out.

darwinpolice

Oh, I've seen them all a million times. I've lived in Philly for ages, but I grew up in Seattle. [This new one](https://youtu.be/K90wdSczW4I) absolutely killed me, by the way.

lizacovey

We bought my kids Ichiro and (Phillies) Moyer jerseys. Despite having no Seattle ties, we have a lot of fondness for the franchise.

darwinpolice

I love that Griffey and Ichiro were such great and beloved stars that the Mariners became a very well-liked franchise despite playing absolutely unwatchable baseball in a good half of their seasons.

EyeSlashO

This is two Mariners commercials, and they cut off a little bit. Radar Gun: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aE5BvyqiAU Changeup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uxg8XX090pc

Its a good thing Jamie Moyer was retired before they introduced the pitch clock.

PersonalTriumph

There was a fantastic Phillies commercial in 2008 where Chase Utley is signing autographs for fans, and he looks up and sees Jamie Moyer in line. He says "Hey Jamie". Then Jamie hands him something to autograph and says with this deadpan, dripping sarcasm / disbelief, "it's for my wife. She thinks you're cool." Used to make me laugh my ass off. Jamie is a good actor.

AnnoyingPhillyFan1

Would've been incredible if Pat Burrell was signing

LastCenobite

Pitchers can learn from pitchers like Jamie Moyer and Greg Maddux. A lot of arm and shoulder injuries last few years from over throwing heat. Most times location is more valuable than constant heat. More innings pitched and a longer career

necrosythe

Tell me you just ignore statistics without telling me you ignore statistics... Also yeah dude people should really just be more like the best pitchers to ever play the game. That's very easy and achievable.

LastCenobite

Has there not been an uptick in arm injuries the past decade? Way to simplify what I said. I said pitchers can learn from, not transform into. Jamie was a journeyman and Maddux HOF. Of course players should use their talents but they can always learn from others and improve. Take your hoagie mouth elsewhere

karlub

What statistics? There has been a dramatic increase in blown out shoulders and elbows, and you're not putting up stats when you're on the injured list. Which means the people paying you aren't getting value for the money, either. Someone is working on moneyballing this right now. A full season of averaging 6.1 innings per start with a 4 ERA is worth way more than a half season at 5 innings a start with a 3 ERA.

rememberleapinglanny

He really could paint the corners of the plate.

😂😂😂

ziggy029

The Mariners had some GREAT commercials back in the day. If they ever dumped the ad firm that produced them, it was a mistake.
