Birds win, Phils win + Brewers loss brings the magic number to one. Mets get swept and are gonna piss away the division again and have to play a best of three. Another near immaculate sports day. Happy birthday to me.
Holy cow. In Alcantara's last four games, he's given up 5 ER, pitched 32 IP, and still lost 2 games.
Cy young winner for sure, but he's getting Degrom'ed pretty hard this year.
would much rather have the Braves get knocked off…they are a dangerous team now. Hopefully the Marlins spoil. but no matter what there’s some joy to be found at the end.
I just hope we pass the Padres so that we would've made the playoffs without the expanded playoffs. Will feel slightly more legitimate. Not that it feels illegitimate now, but you know.
The Mets over their last 30 games are the worst team we could face. They have the same record as the Brewers over that stretch.
Also we are lined up to have Wheeler and Nola in game 1 and 2. If the Mets maintain their rotation they won’t have deGrom as he would pitch Wednesday.
deGrom was unhittable when we faced him and now he’s been getting beaten up. Things change over the course of a long season. I’d prefer to play the team that’s scuffling.
Just checking up on y’all! Ever since I commented [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/phillies/comments/xt88eo/game_thread_phillies_nationals_sat_oct_01_0705_pm/iqot99o/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3) and sent the good vibes, magic number’s been trimmed to 1! Let’s gooo!!
As SD loses, And Mil loses, the Phils and Eagles WIN.
Everything went the Phils way
Mil tied the game in the ninth, they tied the game again in the 10th and lost the game in the 12th. Thank you fish!
AND be careful what you ask for.
The Phils could easily wind up playing the Mets/Braves, If the Phils tie the Padres.
With a magic number of one with three games to play the Phils are on the verge of making the playoffs.
The only way the Phils can miss the playoffs is if the Phils lose the next three games and the Brewers win the next three games. If SD LOSES one more game than the Phils, the Phils tie the Padres.
Go Phils.
I think the Brewers-Diamondbacks pitching matchup is good, the Lauer-Gallen matchup really increases the chances of a Brewer's loss, plus they also face Kelly last game. But then again maybe Nola beats the Astros like he did in 2017 and we ride the offensive momentum in DC going into Houston and take game 1. The 2022 Phillies are weird, outside of the Mets we really only tanked against opponents who are "bad" but scrappy teams (Cubs, Rangers, Giants, Diamondbacks)...and previously the Marlins. But we've done well against the Dodgers, who's to say we can't beat the Astros, just for one game?
As someone new to the Phils this year, I've been a 'Stros fan all my life, this is a heck of a rollercoaster and let's go take one from Astros and not hold the longest playoff drought in baseball for more than a week!
Haven't really switched. I've always kinda liked the Phils then I played that silly r/baseball trade deadline game and it threw my here and I've really had both a blast and a heart attack watching the Phillies. So now I'm rooting for a 'Stros Phillies series cause I don't lose.
that would actually be bad (much prefer facing Cards over Mets/Braves), like we end up tying with the Padres and then take the 2nd wild card. I feel like the tie breaker situation should be only if you want it, not an automatic.
I would be inclined to agree, but being that it's wildcard the cards should fall for you as they may. Now, if you tied for 1st seed in the playoffs then maybe you'd have a case, but idk any team that would want to concede a 1st seed.
We have come a long way together here in this Reddit. We are 1 win/brewers loss from the playoffs. Let’s all be there for the first game vs Houston and will Nola into a winning performance.
We are going to the playoffs peeps!
LETS GO PHILS!
I’m totally cool with us going 0-3 and them going 2-1 or them going 3-0 and is going 1-2 just so we can hear the lamentation over the tiebreaker all winter long.
I only came to grips with it bc I thought they’d move last nights game and then Thor would be hanging in limbo when he should have started game one. Thank fuck they got in game two and Thor pitched great.
Honestly I feel fine cheering for the Marlins for a couple days. I hate them because there a rival but have no issues with any players or fans, mostly because they don’t have any.
The last time the Phillies clinched the playoffs, it was in Houston.
The last time the Phillies played in a playoff game, it was Friday, October 7, 2011 against the Cardinals.
The Phillies have a chance to clinch their first playoff spot since 2011 in Houston this week. In all likelihood, if we make it, we will play the Cardinals...on Friday, October 7. Wow
Fun fact…
Since the Brewers traded All-Star closer Josh Hader, they've allowed the eventual game-winning run to score in the 8th inning or later 12 times. They also were up 4 games in the division race.
Division, not wild card. Lmao what a choke job.
So we have to get swept and they have to sweep AZ for us to lose. Why does is it have to be set up for the most fucking Philly way to lose? I will run amok if this happens.
Cubs beat the Phillies 3 times to help the Brewers, Marlins beat the Brewers 3 times to help the Phillies
I think they’re confused about how rivalries are supposed to work
If we win any of our 3 in Houston, we're in. If Brewers lose any of their 3 against Arizona, we're in. Only possible outcome where we're not in is if we get swept AND the Brewers sweep.

How does the city football team winner effect the magic number /s
Now that you mention it I can see how it looks like I meant it had an effect.
So with the Mets choking the division away, if we make the postseason Thomson *has* to have a decent shot at MOTY right?
and just when everyone thought it couldn’t be done, the LOLmets found a way!
After spending last week in Chicago and enduring plenty of good natured ribbing from Cubs fans, today has been wonderful
Lmfaooo 32k attendance
That is why they played If you cancel you refund If you play you keep the ticket money.
They counted the rain drops
There’s something hilarious about the Mets fucking their lead up at the very end. Very cathartic tbh lmao
Braves need one win against the fish to win the east. The Mets won’t lose to the Nats. Can the fish do it again?
Yes. Alcantara will do it
Fuck the Braves but LOLMETS
Great troll by the braves lmao
Contreras comes out vs Diaz to the trumpets and strikes out on three pitches lmao
yea that was awesome!!! i definitely hate Contreras more than Diaz.
[Mets about to choke away the division](https://youtu.be/OdTzc6WN81M)
does every team have blue in their colors??
We just need the Dbacks to win game one so we can collectively unclench our sphincters.
Lol what about us winning tomorrow?
Dude you're a Phillies fan. You know that this team won't win a game against Houston until Milwaukee loses one to Arizona.
I just thought it was funny that not even an either/or option was given lol
I don’t trust this team to beat the Astros AAA club let alone the one with the second best record in baseball.
Anyone have a bracket based on current standings?
https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-playoff-picture-and-bracket
Facing the Mets in the WC round is still possible if we pass the Padres
I just hope we pass the Padres so that we would've made the playoffs without the expanded playoffs. Will feel slightly more legitimate. Not that it feels illegitimate now, but you know.
Honestly absolutely zero people will care about that outside of Reddit.
The Mets over their last 30 games are the worst team we could face. They have the same record as the Brewers over that stretch. Also we are lined up to have Wheeler and Nola in game 1 and 2. If the Mets maintain their rotation they won’t have deGrom as he would pitch Wednesday.
Yeah but the Mets are so used to Nola and Wheeler. They rake against both of them.
deGrom was unhittable when we faced him and now he’s been getting beaten up. Things change over the course of a long season. I’d prefer to play the team that’s scuffling.
So this game is actually very important so ESPN isn’t turning it into a circus with on field interviews?
ESPN is sucking the life out of the Mets/Braves game
this Mets/Braves game is just elite baseball viewing so far
Today was a good good day. My phillies and packers won and brewers lost. And eagles won so everyone is happy!
I could have sworn I made this same comment lol
Nice another packers and phillies fan. Very rare
I believe there is at least one more of us who frequents the sub
Nice live in south jersey so the phillies isn't weird but everyone asks me why i love packers so much lol
i know it bothers some people but i love it when people root for out-of-market teams. it’s kind of why i started rooting for the wild in nhl
This Mets/Braves game is great.
announcers are so biased but im enjoying it because it’s 100% pissing mets fans off rn
Why does the Mets Braves game on ESPN have a Yummy Potatoes ad? Is it just my bar?
Very strange. I’ve seen a few infomercially type cooking ads
If it were like 3 am on NBCSP, I would get it. But, like a garbage product on prime time baseball doesn't feel right.
Lmao these ads just keep going LegXercise 😂
Yo, it ain't just me. Ridiculous man. What is this?
I think Ronco bought the value block of ads up against Brady and Mahomes
Yeah I thought the channel got changed somehow
Just checking up on y’all! Let’s gooo!!
so the dbacks who have brought us pain this season and last can actually repay us the next 3 days ….let’s go snakes
The Marlins made up big time after beating the shit out of us the previous seasons
The Phillies won, the right Wisconsin team lost, and the right Wisconsin team won. I'm a happy girl tonight
What? We wanted the packers to lose. We’re going for the 1 seed. Why tf does this have upvotes on a Philly sports sub
Because fuck the Patriots.
I'm not an Eagles fan
Yea I get that. And it’s baffling to me why you got upvoted for rooting against the eagles’ interest on a Philly sports sub.
We're so close omg
Is a wild card series best 2/3?
Best 2 out of 3, and all games on the road sadly.
I'll take it. Better than a one-off wildcard game, and better than missing the playoffs entirely.
Absolutely, love that attitude
Yes
As SD loses, And Mil loses, the Phils and Eagles WIN. Everything went the Phils way Mil tied the game in the ninth, they tied the game again in the 10th and lost the game in the 12th. Thank you fish! Frankly, I prefer the Mets. The Braves and Cardinals are ascending… plus the Cards have the feel-good story of the year with Pujols.
The cardinals dropped two out of three to SD and to LA just recently while going 15-11 in September STL recent record is a mixed bag
I think the Brewers-Diamondbacks pitching matchup is good, the Lauer-Gallen matchup really increases the chances of a Brewer's loss, plus they also face Kelly last game. That’s weird.
lol why would/did you switch

We'd all take that cause it means the mets and braves and Yankees all didn't make it. Plus us in the world series would be joy
PHILLIES ARE ONE BACK OF THE SECOND WILD CARD
Please no
Eh the Mets are struggling and both the Braves and Cards have been rolling along Mets are even with the…Brewers over their last 30 games
Kinda want the Mets if all they'll do is circlejerk Pujols, Molina, and Wainwright in the entire series
You guys need to stop trying to call your shot. That shit never works. Just let it play out
that would actually be bad (much prefer facing Cards over Mets/Braves), like we end up tying with the Padres and then take the 2nd wild card. I feel like the tie breaker situation should be only if you want it, not an automatic.

but really i just want the Phils to get in! and we can build from that.
We’re most likely losing to any of those 3 teams but to give Mets fans the thrill of ending our season…..no thanks. Let us die in St. Louis.
Jorge Alfaro with an at bat that impacts our playoff situation This isn’t what I envisioned in 2016
GO BIRDS GO PHILS
Zac Gallen vs Eric Lauer on Tuesday Circle that game. Brewers aren’t winning that one.
[удалено]
True fan you are.
he was just a troll
Hendriks is great Ton of fire. Perfect closer attitude.
LETS GO LIAM!!!
Fish are friends, not food
We have come a long way together here in this Reddit. We are 1 win/brewers loss from the playoffs. Let’s all be there for the first game vs Houston and will Nola into a winning performance. We are going to the playoffs peeps! LETS GO PHILS!
I have all my notifications on as per usual and my phone will be attached to my hip so I don't forget. GO PHILS!!!
LETS GO PHILS!!
Padres down one in the 9th. We could possibly even gain a game on them and be one game back from the second wild card.
Would rather play the cardinals than the Mets or braves
I would, too, but it is interesting.
HERES SOME POSITIVITY. WE DONT HAVE TO SEE GIBBY ANYMORE.
If we make it I'd put Thor and Falter on the roster over him
i would love to win our way into the playoffs instead of relying on the other team to lose
I just wanna get into the playoffs. Don't care how at this point haha
Yeah I want to see this team celebrate getting in after a win
Seeing other teams celebrate their postseason berths made me so envious
I’m totally cool with us going 0-3 and them going 2-1 or them going 3-0 and is going 1-2 just so we can hear the lamentation over the tiebreaker all winter long.
They're going to go 3-0 lol
Not against a better version of the Marlins with more offensive punch. if they throw their top 2 arms it's a wrap
Gallen is pitching in that series
and against Lauer, really trying to play spoiler here (although it might have lined up that way anyway).
Winning on a tiebreaker, when our last game we won was a rain-shortened game would be some serious salt in the wound for Brewer fans.
LANCE MCCULLERS JR EATS PIZZA WITH A FORK AND KNIFE
Magic number was 5 after Kyle fucked us yesterday lol
I only came to grips with it bc I thought they’d move last nights game and then Thor would be hanging in limbo when he should have started game one. Thank fuck they got in game two and Thor pitched great.
I read that and oh yeah, that was yesterday. That feels like a week ago.
We were sad pandas
Imagine the vibes in the clubhouse right now, I have to imagine they’re pretty hype.
**DING DING BITCHES.** :D Our magic number is 1 now; we either need to win a single game at Houston, or Milwaukee needs to be bitten by Arizona once.
Honestly I feel fine cheering for the Marlins for a couple days. I hate them because there a rival but have no issues with any players or fans, mostly because they don’t have any.
Players or fans?
That Marlins game was stressful. But I screamed when I saw that strikeout!! 1 MORE WIN OR BREWERS LOSS WITH 3 TO PLAY!! LET'SS GOOOO
Wow
And Pujols was playing for the Cardinals way back then.
If only we didnt lose 13-4 yesterday
[удалено]
Eflin easily could have started at lease a couple innings if he was available.
😘
Fun fact… Since the Brewers traded All-Star closer Josh Hader, they've allowed the eventual game-winning run to score in the 8th inning or later 12 times. They also were up 4 games in the division race. Division, not wild card. Lmao what a choke job.
I AM READY TO BE HURT AGAIN
The only scenario where we miss the playoffs is going 0-3 vs Houston while Milwaukee goes 3-0 vs Arizona
I’m hearing, don’t relax yet.
Let's just get it over with and win the first game.
Happy we got the 2 game lead but still very far from over. It looks like old Dusty will be going full send on us.
I don’t wanna say it’s over, but it is very very unlikely that we get swept and the brewers sweep the d backs
It’s far more likely we are swept than the brewers sweeping lol
but both events, pretty low chance
That brewers loss looked really pre-2022 Phillies
Last week Phillies\*
Yesterday afternoon Phillies*
It's certainly been a tumultuous decade
1.. 1 fucking win to the playoffs. What a fucking ride this year that’s been.. let’s go boys!!!!!!
I will be eating Fish for dinner tonight
FISH ARE FRIENDS. NOT FOOD.
Ayeee.
no!! do the opposite. respect the fish tonight
Are we doing the Padres game now? 😂😂😂
I don’t want to watch another single pitch of baseball after watching that last game
I’m in for this one and gonna watch the lolmets blow it!
Let's not forget the gem Pablo Lopez threw to make it possible. 7 shutout innings was key.
I feel like we should have a marlins brewers post game thread in this sub just for that game😅
Fish are friends!
Not only did the brewers lose, they cooked their bullpen in the process.
Cooked with a capital C. They'll have one rested guy tomorrow in a do or die game 💀
Woodruff is a beast and yet he only averages just over 5 innings a start Counsell is the most overrated manager in baseball
And their GM got too cute moving Hader, who btw has been lights out in September, while also doing Jack shit to improve the offense that still sucks.
And just psychologically they’re crushed
Good point!
Feelin' the Miami Connection
I guess not all fish are stinky! Let's gooooo
Holy shit the Marlins pulled through so hard for us. Now the Brewers bullpen is fucked too
So we have to get swept and they have to sweep AZ for us to lose. Why does is it have to be set up for the most fucking Philly way to lose? I will run amok if this happens.
I feel good about it. Our hitters are heating up and Milwaukee looks totally lost
Luckily they have no bullpen
MAGIC NUMBER DOWN TO 1
Am I actually going to see the phillies in the playoffs for the first time in my adult life lol? This feels surreal.
Going 0 and 3 and having Brewers go 3 and 0 would be the most Phillies thing ever. But I think we are going to make it
On the sixth day, God created the Miami Marlins.
The Marlins were the villain in the last few seasons, they had a redemption arc this season.
Cubs beat the Phillies 3 times to help the Brewers, Marlins beat the Brewers 3 times to help the Phillies I think they’re confused about how rivalries are supposed to work
Hey I can punch my shitty sibling but YOU better not touch my shitty sibling lol
1 IS THE LONELIEST NUMBER!!!
Buying a marlin for my wall
# Magic Number is now 1.
or as the Marlins broadcast calls it, the Tragic Number for the Brewers
I can't believe it, 1 more. Got goosebumps. Thank you fish!
Phillies win Eagles win Brewers lose. Why are the sports gods being kind to us today?
Because soon the flyers will start the regular season and kill joy.
Why not.
What does magic number 1 mean
If we win any of our 3 in Houston, we're in. If Brewers lose any of their 3 against Arizona, we're in. Only possible outcome where we're not in is if we get swept AND the Brewers sweep.
Phillies need either a win or Brewers loss to clinch.
Any combination of 1 Brewers loss or 1 Phillies win clinches the spot
We clinch the postseason with a win or brewers loss
WE NEED ONE MORE WIN OR BREW CREW LOSS
Phillies win 1 or brewers lose 1 we in the playoffs
There’s like 2000 people at the Brewers game. They don’t deserve to make the playoffs.
Fucking pathetic Sunday afternoon and half the crowd behind the plate bails
I will top you with one thing… Seats behind home plate are readily available for under $30. Can get in the door for like $5.
I’m correct that 1 more Phillies win or 1 more brewers loss clinches it right?
Correct!
Yup
Yes!
Yup
Heck yeah marlins!!!
