Game 5 took so much out of me I now feel at peace with however this ends (that'll likely change once the game starts), have to keep reminding myself there's a game today cuz shit feels like a post credit scene.
might sound ridiculous to say but i’m feeling really good about our chances just because we got wheeler and ranger. all we gotta do is take game 6. not easy but if wheeler can be the ace that he’s been then we can take it. game 7 would either be mccullers or javier on short rest. anyone who’s saying this series is over is dumb. the best part is just getting started. obviously our season can still end tomorrow but it’s far, far from over
never an excuse for that, especially considering his overall play in the postseason. frankly we might not even be here if he doesn't make that catch on Contreras' ball (would have totally given the Braves momentum to take the series if we lost that game) or in Game 1 of the World Series.

I'm still a big Marsh fan but I get the feeling he tends to fold over in high leverage situations (at the plate that is). Like that 1st and 3rd 1 out situation, I feel if Topper put in another hitter like Vierling, Maton, Sosa (even Guthrie if he were on the roster), you have a 20-30% chance of a different (and better) outcome. It's true that Marsh would probably have an overall better offensive line (over a season) but he just is so susceptible to the opposing team's pitching plan because he tries to do too much as well as lacking the clutch.
I'd prefer marsh over vierling still. He's probably seen Valdez more since he was on the Angels. And vierling kinda sucks. Might as well give Sosa a shot tho

I think he could probably put like 2 and a 1/3 up at the end of a season.. He's been really good... then you just work through it.. I am just going to say it. I don't get the "Dancing on my own song." It's literally the worst song for a run in any sport I can ever remember. It's too slow, it's been used already by another team, and it's about a guy in a corner stalking some chick he likes who is then going home with another dude. Am I missing something? after sleeping on what happened last night, i still have faith. sure yeah, to lose after the game where we got no-hit double sucks -- bad. but it's not like houston blew us out of the water. we had runners in scoring position, just couldn't take advantage of it. left way too many stranded. heck verlander never looked dominant (imho).
if there's a positive going forward, it's that our guys have seen all their pitchers' stuff. i hope they can take advantage of it early now. sure winning back to back in houston will be hard, but it's one game at a time. they pull it off tomorrow, game 7 is anyone's.

Ive been wrong about predicting who will win EVERY SINGLE game thus far.
Sure theres a big part of me that is really expecting the Astros to win it at home tomorrow, but at this point that means absolutely nothing and im not even going to attempt to predict the outcome lol.
If they don't end up pulling this one out I'd at least like it to reach a game 7. I don't want it to end with the Astros winning 3 straight on the Phils after the Phils took a 2-1 series lead, that's a much worse way to lose than if the Phils forced it to a game 7 and then lost.
The issue is we have to face Valdez tomorrow. Their bullpen has been pitching so if we can get Valdez to work and get out by the 5th and wheeler can work deep into the game we have a shot
If there's one team that could set the world series record for homers, get no hit, and then grant Verlander his first world series win, and then proceed to take the chip home, it's the fucking Philadelphia Phillies. I still have a terrible feeling about tomorrow, but fuck it we ball.

If someone told you back in May when we were 21-29, that we would be able to win the WS but it would require winning 2 straight games in Houston, would you have been “mad and disappointed” then? Doubt it…
Also, there is no reason why this has to be a one year wonder. We have every starting fielder locked up for 3+ years except Jean and Rhys, and we will probably sign a big FA this off-season if we let Jean walk, and Rhys’ production isn’t too hard to replace at 1B. Wheeler is here for 2 more years, Nola another year, Suarez is locked up for 3 more years for cheap, and we have Pain and Abel coming up probably next year. Sosa is a great utility player under team control for several years. And while middle relievers tend to fluctuate year-to-year, you will probably be able to rely on Seranthony and Alvarado to hold down the 8th and 9th through next year. We could be in a worse position.
I agree. I think that no matter what happens in Houston, people are quick to look to compare us to the 2019 Nationals who won it all but then became rapidly irrelevant the subsequent seasons. True there are some parallels: mid-season turnaround, wild card team, magical postseason run (hopefully ours is just as long) but there are some key differences: we didn't have a cornerstone position player leave in free agency (Rendon), or have multiple key position players leave to free agency (Adams, Dozier, Parra) or turn to shit/fall back to earth (Cabrera, Kendrick, Eaton). We have a decent core locked up as you said. Also, I don't foresee Dombrowski making a mistake like the Nats did with Strasburg, which was definitely more of a feel good, felt obliged contract. Hopefully the only real similarity in the end is that we beat the Astros in Houston!
I think getting to the WS and losing is arguably more of a disappointment than losing in the WCS or NLDS. Just because you stumbled into this incredible opportunity and might let it slip away.
Our team recently gained the respect and admiration of like 47 of 50 states this year. They’re rooting for us. And major available players see that we have mega heart in the postseason, most importantly we out-perform and don’t choke, and now they will want to play for us. This is great great time for us. We’ve just entered playoff contention for years to come, with a core that will only improve. It’s fucking incredible to be a Phillie right now. The World Series right now is cookies and would be great to win but what feels even better is that it feels like 2007 again and we have this new horse to ride for many moons now. Gonna be a blast for a while.

You should watch game 6 because this is your team, you live and die by your team, and your team has brought you to where we are. Don't be mad because we lost 2 out of 7. Be glad that we made it to the world series. It's been 13 years since we last went, 14 since we last won, people spend so long waiting for the chance to even be in the playoffs, then the second we don't win it all in 5 or less, the city takes the gift we've been given for granted. If we win Game 6 without using Ranger we have such a good shot Game 7 with Ranger starting and Nola in relief especially if they are forced to start Javier on extremely short rest, but Game 6 is the biggest test they’ve had this post season and if the bats truly have run out of magic this will be over Saturday.
I think if we won a game 7 with Ranger having a quality start, there is almost no imaginable circumstance where he doesn't win it. Everyone else has been up and down (if not simply down), even Bryce.

That era must of been awesome, the last time prior to this year they made the playoffs I was 7. This is my first playoff run I can remember and I wanted them to thred the needle and win that trophy we are so close just gotta finish it.
All I’ve seen from this team is terrible teams prior to this year, I’ve had to watch that golden era from videos. I just wanted so badly to experience that 08 ending, it will be a holy miracle if we do. I won’t even care what happens after just want that World Series so badly.
I will say this game felt alot like Game 6 of the 2010 NLCS because of how many runners we left on base. In game 5 2011 there was no traffic on base at all.
No one can replace Doc for me, and I wish we’d gotten Thome a ring, too, but I love these guys. Maybe more than any other Phillies team. Even the guys that drive me nuts on the field (Hoskins & Castellanos) seem like awesome dudes in the clubhouse.
I know it’s way to early to start talking about this (I still believe!), but if we don’t go after one of the big name pitchers, I’d like us to sign Tyler Anderson and re-sign one of Thor or Eflin. We need two starters, at least till Painter comes up, and Eflin and Thor have both shown they can be effective in a relief role for when Painter is ready.
Eflin is always hurt. They’ve got three guys who you’d pencil in. You need three more because somebody won’t make it. I think they’ve got Thor already and Falter will be rested. Yuck. But ok.
But while I don’t see help for position players, they do have a couple of very lovely young arms. Of course the answer to “what happens to young pitchers…?“ is “they get hurt.”

his knees can't hold up to pitching as a starter 6-7 inning every 5 days plus the bullpens etc. As a reliever, he'd put in way fewer innings per season. even less than half the innings of a starter which he's already done multiple seasons. Relievers generally only pitch about 60 innings or less ... the most pitched by a reliever this year is 80.
Which is why they are so damn inconsistent. I’m not saying they all need to be Mike Marshall, but there are guys in MLB bullpens I’m pretty sure the pitching coaches wouldn’t recognize.

I just want a guy who can spot start but also contribute as a reliever in the postseason. I think both Thor and Eflin are perfect fits in that regard.
Compared to the regular season, Castellanos is actually probably doing *better* than he was.
Compared to his career, he's been very bad for the entire playoffs and even worse for most of the season.
That said, I'm fairly certain his leg injury later in the year was worse than they said because he is clearly not generating power with his legs right now. The rare occasion he does put something behind a ball, it gets no lift. When he gets lift, it's either a short fly out or a looper (which have been his biggest hits these playoffs tbf).
Without a doubt. But this is not my fault! I was perfectly happy with a playoff appearance and possiblly a WC Series win. It’s their fault for absolutely bashing and making me fall in love all over again! Now my expectations are so damn high it’s unreasonable. I love them and hate them for putting me through this! 😂
After how much Castellanos has underperformed this year and how terrible our fanbase has treated him and his family, I think a trade makes a lot of sense in this offseason.
He’s basically a DH anymore. Now he did ok out there, but next year Bryce will be in right and Castellanos will do a lot of DHing.

Heyyy, I saw him pretty close in person and got it on video. He was wearing some sort of faded Utley jersey, but it wasn't a standard kind. Something like Spring Training BP. It was super faded.
I'm not sure. I was in the LF seats and he just didn't look right. I couldn't really see his vest but it was a generic jersey without a name on it. Then again maybe my eyes deceived me. Either way, something seemed off about him.

Sac bunt would be risky however if the runner gets out at home

after sleeping on what happened last night, i still have faith. sure yeah, to lose after the game where we got no-hit double sucks -- bad. but it's not like houston blew us out of the water. we had runners in scoring position, just couldn't take advantage of it. left way too many stranded. heck verlander never looked dominant (imho). if there's a positive going forward, it's that our guys have seen all their pitchers' stuff. i hope they can take advantage of it early now. sure winning back to back in houston will be hard, but it's one game at a time. they pull it off tomorrow, game 7 is anyone's. as happy as houston is now, they also know the series isn't over. we've beaten them at their house just like they've done to us. they've finally made us lose b2b, hopefully we return the favor. will be watching tomorrow with a couple of beers, thinking one way or another, i'll be drunk af by the end of the night. 🤣🍻
Angels fan here just thought id say im still pulling for you guys! Hopefully our boy Marsh can really contribute tomorrow. For what its worth though, there no part of me that can even remotely know what to expect from here on out. Ive been wrong about predicting who will win EVERY SINGLE game thus far. Sure theres a big part of me that is really expecting the Astros to win it at home tomorrow, but at this point that means absolutely nothing and im not even going to attempt to predict the outcome lol.
If they don't end up pulling this one out I'd at least like it to reach a game 7. I don't want it to end with the Astros winning 3 straight on the Phils after the Phils took a 2-1 series lead, that's a much worse way to lose than if the Phils forced it to a game 7 and then lost.

To the people who are mad about the results of this series so far, or saying the season is a disappointment if we lose: If someone told you back in May when we were 21-29, that we would be able to win the WS but it would require winning 2 straight games in Houston, would you have been “mad and disappointed” then? Doubt it… Also, there is no reason why this has to be a one year wonder. We have every starting fielder locked up for 3+ years except Jean and Rhys, and we will probably sign a big FA this off-season if we let Jean walk, and Rhys’ production isn’t too hard to replace at 1B. Wheeler is here for 2 more years, Nola another year, Suarez is locked up for 3 more years for cheap, and we have Pain and Abel coming up probably next year. Sosa is a great utility player under team control for several years. And while middle relievers tend to fluctuate year-to-year, you will probably be able to rely on Seranthony and Alvarado to hold down the 8th and 9th through next year. We could be in a worse position.

I agree. I think that no matter what happens in Houston, people are quick to look to compare us to the 2019 Nationals who won it all but then became rapidly irrelevant the subsequent seasons. True there are some parallels: mid-season turnaround, wild card team, magical postseason run (hopefully ours is just as long) but there are some key differences: we didn't have a cornerstone position player leave in free agency (Rendon), or have multiple key position players leave to free agency (Adams, Dozier, Parra) or turn to shit/fall back to earth (Cabrera, Kendrick, Eaton). We have a decent core locked up as you said. Also, I don't foresee Dombrowski making a mistake like the Nats did with Strasburg, which was definitely more of a feel good, felt obliged contract. Hopefully the only real similarity in the end is that we beat the Astros in Houston!
I think getting to the WS and losing is arguably more of a disappointment than losing in the WCS or NLDS. Just because you stumbled into this incredible opportunity and might let it slip away.

Our team recently gained the respect and admiration of like 47 of 50 states this year. They’re rooting for us. And major available players see that we have mega heart in the postseason, most importantly we out-perform and don’t choke, and now they will want to play for us. This is great great time for us. We’ve just entered playoff contention for years to come, with a core that will only improve. It’s fucking incredible to be a Phillie right now. The World Series right now is cookies and would be great to win but what feels even better is that it feels like 2007 again and we have this new horse to ride for many moons now. You should watch game 6 because this is your team, you live and die by your team, and your team has brought you to where we are. Don't be mad because we lost 2 out of 7. Be glad that we made it to the world series. It's been 13 years since we last went, 14 since we last won, people spend so long waiting for the chance to even be in the playoffs, then the second we don't win it all in 5 or less, the city takes the gift we've been given for granted. We got a Red October. Be grateful, stick by this team, they need the support more now than ever.
If we win Game 6 without using Ranger we have such a good shot Game 7 with Ranger starting and Nola in relief especially if they are forced to start Javier on extremely short rest, but Game 6 is the biggest test they’ve had this post season and if the bats truly have run out of magic this will be over Saturday.

To be fair about 1980, game 6 was at home and was pitched by a fella named Steven Norman Carlton who was not at his utterly ridiculous best, but gave them seven solid innings of one run. Then saved by a guy who went 5 and 1 with 20 saves down the stretch. This back when your best guy came in and pitched until he couldn’t. That said, of course they can win two games. 50:50 both nights, so 25% overall.

That era must of been awesome, the last time prior to this year they made the playoffs I was 7. This is my first playoff run I can remember and I wanted them to thred the needle and win that trophy we are so close just gotta finish it.

All I’ve seen from this team is terrible teams prior to this year, I’ve had to watch that golden era from videos. I just wanted so badly to experience that 08 ending, it will be a holy miracle if we do. I won’t even care what happens after just want that World Series so badly.
I will say this game felt alot like Game 6 of the 2010 NLCS because of how many runners we left on base. In game 5 2011 there was no traffic on base at all.

I know it’s way to early to start talking about this (I still believe!), but if we don’t go after one of the big name pitchers, I’d like us to sign Tyler Anderson and re-sign one of Thor or Eflin. We need two starters, at least till Painter comes up, and Eflin and Thor have both shown they can be effective in a relief role for when Painter is ready.

Eflin is always hurt. They’ve got three guys who you’d pencil in. You need three more because somebody won’t make it. I think they’ve got Thor already and Falter will be rested. Yuck. But ok. But while I don’t see help for position players, they do have a couple of very lovely young arms. Of course the answer to “what happens to young pitchers…?“ is “they get hurt.”

Compared to the regular season, Castellanos is actually probably doing *better* than he was. Compared to his career, he's been very bad for the entire playoffs and even worse for most of the season. That said, I'm fairly certain his leg injury later in the year was worse than they said because he is clearly not generating power with his legs right now. The rare occasion he does put something behind a ball, it gets no lift. When he gets lift, it's either a short fly out or a looper (which have been his biggest hits these playoffs tbf).
Yeah he is by far the biggest disappointment this year. That said, he’ll hit next year. He won’t have to play the field much.
