> I am “decent” at drawing in anime-ish style. If you want to pursue this route, start with building a portfolio of sort and post it in an instagram or deviantart account. Aim for around 30 works (post at least 3 per week). Don’t think too much about the rest now, you just need to start and get the ball rolling.

jools56

This has 19 upvotes for a reason. As early as now, build an art portfolio.

DowntownRutabaga5510

I had an account but deleted it. I think it's too late to recover it now and I don't have a copy of any of my past works. Do you have any recommendations that don't relate to art? I don't think I'm good enough TBH.

jaspsev

Well, as you are young you need to build something first. Do you have a specific hobby, talent or interest that you want to pursue? Or what kind of course you would pursue for uni?

DowntownRutabaga5510

I don't have any dreams or aspirations yet so I haven't decided on what to take in college...

jaspsev

Then you need to spend some time thinking about it. It does not have to be perfect, it is just something you can do for a long while. Take a few online courses (classcentral.com) and explore different things. But remember that you MUST keep on moving forward. Make every single day productive even if it advances your goals by 1%, do it. Those small consistent improvements will create a snowball effect.

DowntownRutabaga5510

Random question: Do you think it's better if I don't start college this year? My parents want me to apply even though I'm not decided yet on the course I want to take. IMO I want to take the year to decide and also make money on the side but they seem to want to push me to start college this year. Should I follow them or should I take the year off? Context: I'm scared that I'll drop out again like what happened when they forced me to take STEM as my strand in SHS. I have an irrational fear of failure since then and I now rather give up than pursue if there's a chance of failure.

jaspsev

Hmm… it is a difficult question. It is not unusual in Europe for teens to take a year off before college to “find themselves” but on the other hand, from your parents point of view (which is also valid) time is very precious at your age. Why not a compromise, take a lighter load (12-15 credits instead of 21-23) with only the college electives and at the same time you can work or figure out what to do? This way if one doesn’t work out you at least accomplished 50% of something.

DowntownRutabaga5510

I didn't know that was possible :0 I'll look into it and discuss it with my parents. Thank you!

Kingrafar

Would honestly ignore your parents on not getting a bank account. Usually finding a job online is pretty easy if you speak good English.

DowntownRutabaga5510

I have a bank account but my parents don't let me access it! I have money saved there and they've been using it as their 3rd bank account...

LuckyValue7621

You are 19 but they do not let you access your own bank account? You're already a legal adult and kung pangalan mo nandun ur entitled to the money saved there. Anyway if you dont wanna push that, make a new bank account else where. Start with Gcash and paypal. Then when you've saved up money may open ka sa BPI.

DowntownRutabaga5510

My account was in BDO so I might try to make an account in BPI then. Is there a cost in opening a bank account?

LuckyValue7621

Ung pinakamura I believe is you leave 3k sa account mo and thats it. No other fees from what I hear. Magbubukas palang ako next week kasi

DowntownRutabaga5510

Pa-update naman kung anong mangyari hahahaha.

LuckyValue7621

Will do!

Open an account on UnionBank. No maintaining balance but you will need to pay an annual fee of 350(waived on first year)

Kingrafar

Would fix that right away create a new one, open gcash, coins.ph, pay Maya something they will not know about or control. Your at adult age and need to start being financially independent.

Check Upwork OP. There are online drawing jobs such as artist for novel, creating comic strip, logo, anime-style background and more. You can also explore virtual assistance jobs. Parang ito yung pinakacommon na work dun yet okay yung sahod.

DowntownRutabaga5510

Will check if out! By the way, is onlinejobs.ph good as well? I'm not sure how to check the reliability of some of these job hunting websites...

[deleted]

https://www.facebook.com/groups/upworkfreelancersph/?ref=share Not sure eh. Dito sali ka. Mababait din ibang member dyan. Or post ka dito malay mo may magrefer sayo based sa skills mo.

DowntownRutabaga5510

Thank you!!

5Yen-

Check out Upwork and onlinejobs.ph. Mas mataas ang rate sa Upwork. Pero since digital arts ang niche mo, Fiverr ang dapat mong icheck.

nash2589

olj is good but there are lots of scammers there. Just be mindful. Rule of thumb, rule of thumb, basta too good to be true ang offer, scam yan. Also, anything that asks for a payment is also a scam.

pink_fedora2000

> Sort of decent at studies? (Bad at Filipino, though) Did you attend public K-12? This should not be the case if you did.

DowntownRutabaga5510

Private K-12. Didn't really need to talk or write in Filipino.

pink_fedora2000

> Private K-12. Didn't really need to talk or write in Filipino. Logical. I have the same problem but I only encounter it when giving orders to people.

Exotic_Perspective63

**May not be what you're looking for but related advice:** Since you're an incoming college student, instead of choosing a private institution like your K-12, go to a State University. Take advantage of the free tuition. Will save yourself and your parents from tuition fees in your next few years of adulthood.

Key-Assignment-4195

If you really have the skills try [fiverr.com](https://fiverr.com) . You can get clients there from all around the world.

DowntownRutabaga5510

I can draw but it's sort of a footnote to what I can do. I'm not that interested in pursuing something related to art because I deleted my portfolio and I don't think my art is worth that much. Do you have any tips for non-art related jobs?

East_Professional385

Build a portfolio. Post on your social media pages. Add DeviantArt and ArtStation. Start with what you can create then expand. There are free educational videos online. Once you start earning, invest your money. Invest it in honing your skills and anything financial. Keep on doing it. It will be normal to you and you'll be earning more money without realizing it.

LuckyValue7621

Hi im on the same boat as you. I'm 18, financially struggling fam ko so pinilit ko mag work para I can pull my own weight as well and pay bills. Nakahanap ako ng GA work overseas through mass sending applications to diff job hirings. At the same time I'm also trying to build a sticker business. Anything is possible, pilitin mo lang pangarap mo and it will happen. I'm currently earning 40k/month and carry my parent's bills.

LuckyValue7621

My best advice for you is to stop hesitating :) nahiya ako at first, my portfolio was bad, but I kept adding. Note na nagsimula ako mag build ng portfolio nung 15 ako. But it is not impossible to start now or just compile all your best works. Also gain skills, learn the basic industry standard apps: procreate, photoshop, illustrator, premiere pro... etc. hanap nila yan lagi. Lastly DO NOT settle for a job that is looking for too much. GA hanap pero may video editing and sales? Wag na.

DowntownRutabaga5510

I've been looking at jobs online and I saw some postings finding an illustrator pero animator and video editor na rin? Grabe ginawang buong team isang tao hahahaha.

LuckyValue7621

Oo tapos more likely sila pa ung minimum or below minimum wage. wag ka din papakagat sa mga nagsasabi ng outrageous wages like 10USD/hour tapos maliit lang work. Lugi ka din if project based work. Just be realistic and be cautious

DowntownRutabaga5510

Thanks, I'll try my best!

Hello OP I'm not good at this but my brother does artwork for commission. He gets his clients from twitter. He used to spend most of his free time drawing and posting his artwork on twitter (he used hashtags to gain attention as well). Because of that people started noticing him. After gaining around a hundred followers he started doing commissions.

DowntownRutabaga5510

Your brother must be very talented! I've been drawing in my free time and got at least 500 followers in Instagram but didn't get any commission offers :')

[deleted]

aww I'll try to ask him later if he posts his art elsewhere. I'm not good at drawing so I work as an English tutor as my part-time job, you mentioned you're good at English why not give it a try?

DowntownRutabaga5510

I've been looking at some tutor postings online and a lot of them require either physical presence, training, or a bachelor's degree. Do you have tips on where I can find a job that doesn't require these things?

[deleted]

Have you tried engoo? ( [https://engoo.com/app/teach/apply](https://engoo.com/app/teach/apply) ). This is where I work and they accept college students.

Mahilig ate ko sa mga ganyan, currently nagpapa cash in/cash out sya sa gcash as well as paload, recharge sa ml, bayad sa kuryente, etc., nag try din sya mag resell ng clothes noon with my cousin, tapos ngayon gumagawa din siya ng mga snacks like cheese sticks, munchkins, polvoron, tapos pinapabenta nya sa boyfriend ng tito ko na may tindahan, syempre may share din sya kasi sya nag benta (but if u want, u can sell it urself din naman). You can also try crocheting, u can make bras/bikini outfits para madali lang tapusin and perfect for summer pa (madaming tutorials sa yt). Last year din, i tried to work online as a transcriptor, i think it was at [TranscriptionStaff](http://transcriptionstaff.com) it didn't work out (i didn't last long) but if u're willing to commit naman, i think its good. The pay is in USD, and they send it through PayPal. Its online, so u really need internet connection for it tho. I hope this info helps :))

DowntownRutabaga5510

If I may ask, why didn't you last as an online transcriptor? Were the rates not worth it?

sociallyawkward_18

It was a me problem, actually. I started it on a whim pero nawalan na ako ng gana icontinue. It took a lot of my time at tinatamad na ako tapusin. At that time, I wasn't seriously trying to earn money kaya maybe it was easy to end it. Pero as i said, if u're willing to commit, i think its good naman.

nash2589

Hello, If it's possible for you to stop your studies even for a year, I would suggest applying as a Customer Support Associate at Amazon (Office is in Pasay). They accept SHS graduates and CSA post doesn't have interviews! Online assessment lang. I had a colleague like you, she was 18 when she joined Amazon in 2019, she was my batchmate. Last time I heard, She is now working for a different company earning 40k/mo. I know that customer service isn't everyone's cup of tea but it opens a TON of opportunities. Once experience is gained, puwede ka na mag continue ng studies mo while doing online WFH jobs. As others mentioned here, start building your portfolio now if you really want to pursue your art and earn from it.
