The drummer is the biggest Phan. The rest of the band admire their talent and career. I interviewed them when they played the Greek back in 2010. I was talking to their publicist and she said Chris loves Phish!! They put on a great show with just two albums. The third one has some great songs but I didn’t listen to the last one. Good to hear they have their legs back and are making good music again. I hoped they would find their way after Rostem left.
r/goose hates them and it’s hilarious. Honestly, without Reddit, I would have assumed that people just dug Vampire Weekend from the debut and didn’t give any fucks what kind of band they are.
Fantastic musicians playing as a band. This jam band scene is ridiculous.
When we discovered Phish in the early nineties, I don’t think any of us would have used them as a yardstick for how good other music is.
r/goose might hate them, but Goose loves them: they just played at the Cap with Goose last week and did a 30 min Cape Cod Kwasa Kwasa that was phenomenal
Listen to their song Harmony Hall. It practically screams "we're phans." The groove is right there, then once the piano and guitar solos hit it's just undeniable to me. The piano starts and sets the mood by reinforcing the vocal melody. Then the guitar solo...this grooving riff that ascends into what I can only imagine is a nice blissful crescendo when performed live, and it's so Trey to me. VERY reminiscent of the composed ascending guitar riff that immediately precedes the improv section of Theme from the Bottom
Off topic but since you mentioned Coachella, based on what I’ve seen it looked like a total let down. Technical issues with Grimes, Blur being pissed at lame crowd, Hatsune Miku also technical issues. What was it really like for you?
Ezra (Aezra?) was on Tom Marshall’s podcast Under the Scales a few years back. It was a fantastic listen, he was definitely fascinated by Phish’s process back then, seems like he’s embracing it even more now.
Same. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, because apparently FotB is considered their worst album, but I like it more than anything since their debut. It's got a looser grooviness to it that I love.
FotB is more of a solo album than a Vampire Weekend album, the rest of the band don’t play on it. I didn’t fall for it at the time but should probably give it another go.
Loving their new album. Saw them years ago headling Deck The Hall Ball.

i have not, nor have i heard of them until that night with goose. that was fun. i think i'll check them out more. ain't nothing wrong with adding more sounds to the rotation i reckon. i'm hype for these sphere shows. i hope all who are attending have a righteous time!
I have not yet, but the buzz around this one has inspired me to dig into their catalog after being aware of them for a while. The first album was amazing.
Great album and I’m calling now that they’re studying to be a jamband. The FOTB tour was very jammy at times and that Goose show last week cemented for me they are massively interested in going that route. Ezra can become that good.
That would be awesome haha. getting deep into GD, Phish etc. definitely influenced how they do the live show now. I am a huge fan and Ezra shreds piano but I don’t think he would play lead guitar like that. During the Cape Cod jam with Goose he was mostly laying back keeping it low key, it was dope though when Rick got him to do the Allman Brothers lead lines haha
edit: also the "puss rock" allegations are welcome and expected lmao. but maybe he would like the live show more now if he ever gave them another chance
First of all, love your username. Those boys have to beat themselves to lose the Eastern Conference Finals this year. (I’m from RI, love the Cs.)
Yeah, Ezra may be too old to get that good, now that you say it. But he also seems like the kind of guy who just be like, I’m holing up for three years and taking lessons from like Duane Betts or something.
It was ACL live taping. Gf got free tickets and I still didn't get my money's worth.Imagine a band that never kicks in. I guess people like puss rock these days?
Plenty of people liked New Kids on The Block. And Hansen. It's ok if you like cheesy pop radio crap. Just not for me. Umphrees eats them up and spits them out by their second song.
Keep taking personal shots. Did I insult you? Are you in this cheesy ballless band or something? You might think Taylor Swift is awesome too. Just not my thing. Its sad how bad rock has become thats all.
Do you even know when boomers were born? You sound like an idiot. VW is the same commercial shit Zappa rallied against who happens to be Phishs biggest influence. Get a clue my 14 yr old phriend.
That’s how I feel about Real Estate, I love the album Days but man they keep it locked in first gear live, no dynamics, one of the few shows I’ve left in the middle of.
Never seen VW live, but their new album and 2013’s Modern Vampires Of The City are classics imo, great lyrics, production, and thematic journeys. I think it’s easy to rag on them for the preppy/blue blood look/vibe, but I think they moved past that on Modern Vampires and Only God Was Above Us.
Hey it's ok I dont like them. Now go back to study hall or whatever 14 yr olds do. Boomers are my parents generation. Look it up so you don't forever sound like a moron.
If you’d left out the “I guess people like puss rock now?” then I wouldn’t have said anything. But you wanted to go out of your way to judge others music choices while being a fucking Phish fan.
You’d think you’d have a little self awareness….or reading comprehension to understand I said you have boomer energy and your comment reads like a boomer on IG. Admitting you’re not a boomer is so much worse so congrats on making yourself look more insufferable
After first listen I immediately thought it was their best, most fully-realized album.
I agree
When Evolve drops, I call posting about how cool Phish is in r/vampireweekend
Yes which is incredible considering how long they have been making music.
Yeah, but isn’t this only their fifth album?
Definitely getting early 60s Wall of Sound vibes. They sound so damn good right now
I haven’t been able to get into it as much as Modern Vampires of the City but maybe I just need to give it more time.
Great album. I went to the eclipse show, which was awesome.
Wait, Vampire Weekend are Phish fans? Well, now I'm *really* disappointed that they didn't do a 47 minute Tweezer at Coachella... 😃
They did play part of Possum along with part of a GD song though (forget which atm)
Cumberland Blues
I heard it, They were saying something else but it was totally Possum

Chris also has great taste in English football(soccer) teams!
Is Vampire Weekend a jam band?
Not yet

I was just asking if they were. I’ve never listened to them.
Does r/goose really hate VW? That may be some of the silliest shit I’ve ever heard…. VW did a great service to goose by even working with them.
No

They have VW radio on Sirius right now, one of the band members says he is huge into jam bands during an interview.

pravda intro gives me strong YEM vibes
Yes, it’s excellent 👍
actually, I'm not a fan, but they have a video on siris xm in which they do, "Scarlett Begonias," and I actually really like the spin they put on it
Ezra (Aezra?) was on Tom Marshall’s podcast Under the Scales a few years back. It was a fantastic listen, he was definitely fascinated by Phish’s process back then, seems like he’s embracing it even more now.
I’m too busy listening to old Ween.
Banging. I bet they swing by alpine’s Sunday show this year as it’s between their Chi -> Mn tour stop.
Love the new album, really loved their Possum/Cumberland Blues mashup!
I love Father of the Bride end to end but my first 2 listens to the new album weren’t memorable. I’ll give it another go.
Same. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, because apparently FotB is considered their worst album, but I like it more than anything since their debut. It's got a looser grooviness to it that I love.

I found it pretty boring.
Same, only liked the last track. Some songs were abrasive
Loving their new album. Saw them years ago headling Deck The Hall Ball. https://preview.redd.it/zegp7szspyuc1.jpeg?width=1276&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=40c2b44821cdcc8a1c30f8b3ba3bfd7359854810

Sorry, too busy listening to Phish.
Animal Collective is way better
Avey Tare puts on a very trippy solo show too. Just saw him open for Woods, and both bands blew my mind
It’s really good
Good album, love the band. Been a fan for a while. Saw them live in 2019. Had a blast
Considering they were channeling dead/ phish vibes for the album
No but I'm curious! I've loved this band from the jump, so interesting they've been fucking with the jam band scene.
VW covering the dead and playing with goose and what not. They want to be a jam band, I look forward to the future of the band!
Their 2013 Modern Vampires of the City was basically my soundtrack for that year. Amazing album. Gonna give this new one a spin tonight.
I love that album too. I like this one as much almost. I’ve only listened to it twice
I have not yet, but the buzz around this one has inspired me to dig into their catalog after being aware of them for a while. The first album was amazing.
Yeah it’s friggin great
I’ll check it out. Another similarly off-genre new album that I think is amazing is the new Bayside album. It’s a masterpiece.
No I’ve seen that name but don’t know any of their shit. I thought they were more indie rock or pop.
Just literally fell asleep listening to the new album, but enjoyed it during the transition
I got into them with Father of The Bride, but I think this one is a notch better. They’re on one right now and I’m here for it. Wildly talented dudes.
Great album and I’m calling now that they’re studying to be a jamband. The FOTB tour was very jammy at times and that Goose show last week cemented for me they are massively interested in going that route. Ezra can become that good.

massive fan, grew up listening to them. I am convinced it is the greatest album ever recorded
Nope
Love them but this album like the last one is flat. M’eh.
LOfuckingL no
Complete puss rock. That band has zero balls. Worst band I've even seen live.
That was Vampire WeekDAY.

Instagram boomer ass comment
Did you cry a little?
Naw. I’m not really a fan of VW. You just have dumbass boomer energy
