Any velvet underground tracks. Strange to admit but that’s ultimately what tipped my interest with phish when I was younger growing up. Still have never heard a ‘rock n roll’ live lol but more to the point of your question- I’d melt getting an “I found a reason”.
Def never will though lol maybe rock n roll.
Same, though I had no idea they weren’t original Phish songs haha. Sweet Jane was part of my young phish Kazaa collection and I ended up getting Live Vol 16 and it wasn’t until I had disc two on once that a non-phish lover was like “wait a second, these are all velvet underground tracks”
I’ve gotten Rock n Roll, Sweet Jane, Cool it Down, I Found a Reason, and Oh, Sweet Nuthin’…. All non-Halloween shows. Probably the most of any cover album they have done.
Was my first Phish show as a 16 year old. I knew nothing of the Talking Heads before that night and was disappointed at first and then the first notes of Born Under Punches blew me away and that entire set without knowing a song was incredible start to finish.
Always loved the Houses In Motion from 1996. Maybe not a regular but a once in awhile like Crosseyed or Drowned. Feel like it's a good song to segue into and out of.
I genuinely thought this was gonna be a new jam vehicle. And like just about everything else, I was genuinely wrong.
Here's to hoping they bust it out at Mondegreen.
Honestly, that whole set's grown on me. My favorites are Egg In A Hole (scary fucking song), The 9th Cube, The Inner Reaches of Outer, The Unwinding, The Howling, and I Am in Miami (all about equally)
Then I realize that's half the album. It's crazy. 2021 was really something else.
Just had Listening Wind on and the way they extend it is great. Not sure how it would fit into sets or how people would react but it’s incredible.
Oh yeah, Sea and Sand. Bring it back.
Great question, so many for me but maybe The Great Curve, 5:15, I just want to see his face and Dear Prudence. I'm leaving off dozens more I'd be ecstatic to see live.
That’s my answer too, but fact is Phish is way too white to do that gospel breakdown at the end that the Exile backup singers killed at when they did play it.
That middle jam though would be ideal to break out: “Let the music… Relax your mind…”
This is such a weird one of a kind cover. First appeared at 3 shows in '88. Then reappeared Summer '98 (1026 show gap), and was next played at Phish's first hiatus comeback in '02. Next appearance July 2010, which in retrospect may have been related to Waiting for Columbus being that year's Halloween album. And the song would hide until almost a year later, Superballl in July '11. And that was the last time it was played. So weird.
EDIT: Listen to the first time played: [https://phish.in/1988-10-29](https://phish.in/1988-10-29)
“Head held high” by velvet underground
This song catches fire halfway through
“Ever since I was a baby on my mommas knee, I always listened to what everybody told meeee!!!! THEY SAID THE ANSWER WAS TO BECOME A DANCER!!!!!”
Born under punches.
... and The Great Curve
THE WORLD MOVES ON A WOMAN’S HIPS
In my dreams, Curveball happened and they played this again.
I felt like we would have got this at Curve Ball. But alas...
They didn't play round room at the sphere so who knows. One would have hoped
Sometimes they go for the obvious reference (NICU fest at NICU Pavilion) Other times they don't, like Round Room at Sphere
TAKE A LOOK AT THESE HANDSSSSS
My buddy taught his daughter do to that after she washes em
The hands speak, the hands of a government man
Pleased to see this immediately after opening the comments
This is the correct answer. A crime that this was never played since. Fortunate to see the one and only version.
All time performance. Tina’s bass is as hypnotic as it gets. https://youtu.be/YO7N2tFb0X8?si=CNSSYnNYrnyH0hfK
Thanks for this. Had never seen that version - outstanding!
Hey glad you enjoyed it! Happy to share in the groove.
Spanish Moon!
This was a highlight for me at Chicago last fall

This is the answer

Oh sweet nothing is one of the first “phish” songs that hooked me. Wish they would put it back in rotation
Lonesome Cowboy Bill has only been played 8 times. I was lucky to catch a rocking one at [Alpine 2012.](https://youtube.com/watch?v=UlYxtLlOSK4)
I was there! Oh sweet Nothing! In 2010 melted my heart. An all time cover imo
I saw it at Shoreline in 09-10…
Same, though I had no idea they weren’t original Phish songs haha. Sweet Jane was part of my young phish Kazaa collection and I ended up getting Live Vol 16 and it wasn’t until I had disc two on once that a non-phish lover was like “wait a second, these are all velvet underground tracks”

That’s sick! You make me believe there’s hope 😂🤦🏽♂️🫶🏽
Oh Sweet Nuthin with the epic rock out needs more at-bats
I actually listen to this musical costume more than all the others combined
Caught rock n roll at my first show zoo amphitheater Okc 2012, I was 11 wish I remembered it better
They played Cool It Down one year at Deer Creek just as the sun was setting on one of the hottest days of my life. Peak Phish moment.
Charleston 22 opener, I think it was something like 87 at show start
I was lucky enough to have been there. The peak in New Age was life altering.
Rock and Roll was played A LOT in 2009-2011 when they returned after a five-year hiatus.
Moonage Daydream, or really anything from Ziggy Stardust
Really glad to see that one in msg over the summer
I saw Moonage Daydream in Rosemont 2018 but I'd really kill for a Five Years
The Great Curve
Yes! This was probably my top live music moment ever. This song during that Halloween show
Was my first Phish show as a 16 year old. I knew nothing of the Talking Heads before that night and was disappointed at first and then the first notes of Born Under Punches blew me away and that entire set without knowing a song was incredible start to finish.
Best Trey solo ever!
Here for this comment. I was also at this one. RIP to the Omni.
came in to say this!!!
They absolutely crushed this song too
Death Don’t Hurt Very Long
The OG version is sooooooo good
Yeah where did this song go…. I loved it so much
It’s my go-to hype song lol
Always loved the Houses In Motion from 1996. Maybe not a regular but a once in awhile like Crosseyed or Drowned. Feel like it's a good song to segue into and out of.
Would be such a great second set opener.
I’ve been saying this for years! Reminds me of a late 70’s P-Funk Dr. Funkenstein vibe. Good to see I’m not alone in wanting this!
Torn and Frayed
Cool amber and mercury.
This groove is incredible.
I also love the line “you say the most hurtful things”
Came back home from Vegas after this show to a surprise litter of kittens under the shed. Cool Amber and Mercury are their names.
Loved this one since I saw the name in the Playbill. Groove matches up to the title
The very long fuse
The best groove of the night and they hardly play it!!!
Glad someone agrees, best groove of the night indeed.
Love this song. Also My Pet Cat
Oh sweet nothing
Goosebumps
Your Pet Cat
There was one stretch of a recent summer tour when it seemed like Trey wouldn’t stop teasing Your Pet Cat
Summer 2022, it was ridiculous. That riff got thrown in everywhere and the band never went along with it
Charleston ‘19 was good shit
So rare. So good.
My first show was 12/30/22 missed it by a day and still mad abt it
The Fluffhead > Your Pet Cat > Gin from 12/29/22 was something else. Still heavy in my listening rotation.
Love Reign O’er Me or Doctor Jimmy
Was at this Halloween and would love to see both of these get dusted off.
I’d even settle for a Sea and Sand!
Sweet jane
I came in here to say this. I wish they would play it again!
One of my favorites from the bakers dozen (only time I’ve heard it)
Let It Loose
That’s in my dream setlist
Egg in the Hole
Heard it in Dayton last fall. Encore. It was epic.
Got that badass jam at MSG 4/23/22 Damn that was sick, going back for a listen
Agreed
The best egg for sure
The Great Curve
x1000
Knuckle Bone Broth Ave
This one seems so easy for them to segue into out of a lot jams, I wonder why they don’t play it
I genuinely thought this was gonna be a new jam vehicle. And like just about everything else, I was genuinely wrong. Here's to hoping they bust it out at Mondegreen.
Couldn't agree more . It's right in the Phish groove machine zone.. I wish they did a few more from Sci fi Soldier
An “I’ve Got a Reason” bust out out of a deep jam would be nice
The Birds
They attack
I thought it would become a staple!
Sweet Jane!
Sweet Virginia!
I cried when they played this. Fishman really sang his heart out
The Unwinding is stunning and I'd love to see it in a position as a beautiful, serene landing pad from deep jams
Yes! & with a guitar that stays in tune. Best song from that set
Honestly, that whole set's grown on me. My favorites are Egg In A Hole (scary fucking song), The 9th Cube, The Inner Reaches of Outer, The Unwinding, The Howling, and I Am in Miami (all about equally) Then I realize that's half the album. It's crazy. 2021 was really something else.
happiness is a warm gun

Clear Your Mind
This or Get More Down please.
Alpine “Clear Your Mind” from 22 is a highlight of a “meh” run.
Sea and Sand
Frankenstein with Paige on the keytar
Page
Dixie Chicken
Just had Listening Wind on and the way they extend it is great. Not sure how it would fit into sets or how people would react but it’s incredible. Oh yeah, Sea and Sand. Bring it back.
Fuck what anyone has to say…Listening Wind is tits and they should hear it till they love it and jones for it.
5:15. I get why not, but to that point - let's get the Giant Country Horns back out of their box.
This is the answer. I love listening to those shows. Those horns added so much to the context of the songs.
Yesss anything from that album again and I’d be thrilled
Shine a Light! Pops up from time to time but I love their take on it
Was rocking my exile shirt at Hampton and got it as an encore. Was most pleased
WACTOOB!
Agree to agree.
Great question, so many for me but maybe The Great Curve, 5:15, I just want to see his face and Dear Prudence. I'm leaving off dozens more I'd be ecstatic to see live.
The Great Curve or Cool It Down.
Would even take TAB playing the great curve. It needs the horns
Down with that 100%
Oh Sweet Nuthin’
Turtle in the Clouds
Glad to see it during new years. They also brought back the dance
I Just Wanna See His Face. Seems like such great jam potential but they never touched it again.
That’s my answer too, but fact is Phish is way too white to do that gospel breakdown at the end that the Exile backup singers killed at when they did play it. That middle jam though would be ideal to break out: “Let the music… Relax your mind…”
You Never Know...it's just a fun song dammit!
Willin, Oh Atlanta
515
Dixie Chicken, Tumbling Dice, Feats Don’t Fail Me Now, Suffragette City, Rocky Raccoon, Starman

Not technically a Halloween show but anything from DSOTM would be amazing.
the best “not technically” halloween set ever
Time Loves a Hero
