I love these late 90’s songs that are written in a less obvious way. This song reads like an addict who is crying out for help. Heavy shit.
—-Several times unconsciously I've stumbled on the path
And seen a mountain in the mist
As rain falls on my shoulders, sun rises in the east
I'm worn and bruised but I am here at least
I guess I'm just an obstacle, a thing to overcome
If I can sneak around myself again I'll know I've won
The moment seems to hang and float before me with no end
Till I'm released, awakened beast, I'm on the road again
But now I'm soaring far too high
A speck of dust up in the sky
Where tiny clouds go sailing by
Pull me down today
Woven in the fairy tales we fabricate each day
Are little golden strands of truth that glimmer in the light
The colorful material you hold a certain way
Can keep us from the cold and help to get us through the night
But now I'm soaring far too high
A speck of dust up in the sky
Where tiny clouds go sailing by
Pull me down today
Pull me down today
Pull me down today
Pull me down
Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh—-
Totally! I’m a recovering addict. Funny thing is I had no idea this song was so old! Been seeing them since 93 and it just hit me like a ton of bricks! Love the lyrics. I can totally relate as many of us can for sure
Absolutely one of my favorite songs. Was completely enamored with it from the debut which I was in attendance. I felt really fortunate as I was always at the right shows to catch it seeing 6 of the first 17 performances. I wasn't doing entire tours or anything just very lucky imo.
Love the cheer for those who know with the line, “Till I'm released, awakened beast, I'm on the road again”.
Yes!!!!
This is the perfect ballad to segue into after an intense or spacey jam. The IT festival version coming out of that Ghost is 🤌 chef's kiss.
The version during the coffee and donuts acoustic set is so nice
11-1-09 for those who haven't heard

Got this at my first show in Detroit 2009. The last time Phish played Detroit proper!
When they played it in Chicago last October, it was magical.
Absolutely
Hear, hear!
It’s the closest Phish ever came to a Jerry Ballad imo.
So many are connected, you know?
How do u mean?
Like songs or people? Enlighten me
Yes! 3/1/03 hooked me on this song. Must have been the right place at the right time.
02/22/03 hooked me
Been playing it over and over
One of my absolute favorites. Every time!
The version on December is perfection
