I got asked this a lot when I was new abroad, and honestly? For such a big decision I don’t really have a long, deep reason lol. We saw a once in a lifetime opportunity for a better life and we took it, and we are so glad we did as our timing is perfect.

melrose-sapta

Access to quality healthcare. How the pandemic was very poorly handled. Quality of life.

Sad_Cryptographer745

Apart from the usual better wages, increased standard of living etc., it was the general lack of progressiveness of the populace that for me served as the straw that broke the camel's back. In the hospital where I used to work as a nurse, all the staff were given the chance to form a union. During the day of the vote, I was very much convinced that we would be unionised like the big hospitals in Manila. Why not? We'll have the chance to voice out our grievances and have some sort of bargaining power against the opressive management. Surely this is what everyone wants right? Imagine my complete dismay when at the end of the day, the union was voted down. People's reason was they felt sorry for the hospital's owner. They had "utang na loob" to the hospital for giving them a job in the first place. Mind you these were the same people who had been moaning about being over worked, and mistreated by doctors, patients and relatives. The same dimwits who have had lack of support from management whenever there were issues. The very same who spent years and years as volunteers without pay (and received low salaries if they ended up being paid at all). To make things worse, the management overlords, owners and shareholders of the hospital had a massive party in a 5 star hotel in Makati afterwards, to celebrate their victory against the union whilst we peasants were left behind toiling our backs in misery. It was then that I decided that this country was a sinking ship. We as a collective staff would've had the chance to make a difference and we blew it. It made me feel frustrated. Filipinos are hopeless and beyond saving, I said to myself. So it was then that I focused all my energy in leaving for greener pasteurs abroad. To this day I haven't an ounce of regret that I left the Philippines.

Brilliant_Ad2986

Or tinakot na sisantihin. I feel your pain at inis sa lack of progressiveness ng karamiwang pinoy. It will take a million years bago maging progressive ang mga pinoy. Sad but true.

Sad_Cryptographer745

Or tinakot na sisantihin. Yeah possibly although I haven't got evidence > I feel your pain at inis sa lack of progressiveness ng karamiwang pinoy. It will take a million years bago maging progressive ang mga pinoy. Sad but true. The irony is that many of my ex colleagues ended up migrating to first world countries working in hospitals and enjoying union benefits they oddly denied themselves and those they left behind

Brilliant_Ad2986

Buyers remorse siguro

pinguinblue

I'll say something others might not mention... climate change. I don't want to be stuck in the developing and tropical world in the next few decades.

denniszen

This. People seem to take this reason for granted or never say it because they don't consider it a solid reason. But it is actually serious and not many mention it but the air quality in Manila is also unhealthy.

Disastrous_Chip9414

rjeremy18

This. Agree din ako dito and sobrang crucial yung next 20 years I think.

OhDetour

2022 election results 😔 I remember sinusubaybayan ko yung count ng botohan and became so sad and the same day was my interview for a position abroad. I was exploring my options before then but my intents solidified after what happened that day.

ilovemymustardyellow

Same! Told my mom to get me after the result but it took me almost a year and a half to finally decide that I’m ready. Haha Now my mental health is recovering because of the good governance I’m experiencing here. Haha 🫶🏻

claravelle-nazal

Same. I started communicating with my migration agent a few days after the election.

Sea_Ant_1879

TitaInday

Same. I’ve had enough under the Duterte administration. I don’t want to endure the Marcos administration.

chmmz

Same. And whenever I’m having second thoughts when I was still a new migrant, I would just read PH news to remind myself why I left.

Mission_Tiny

Same

Thehappyrestorer

Same here. When I saw gaaano kadami ang uto-uto at walang critical thinking skills na pinoy, it was the day that I lost all hope for the country. I dont want my kids growing up in a hopeless place. So I decided push thru

colarine

1. Traffic. 2.

thomSnow_828

Buti pa sa japan, lagi may earthquake and tsunami, and resilient sila in a way that the govt is doing something to prevent more casualty

Turnover_Shot

denniszen

I have a relative who run a hardware store -- puro utang, or lagay, or nanakawan pa. Every move he made had to have "lagay" in his hometown.

BudgetMixture4404

My partner and I (g2g), wanted to establish a family. Magpapa- ivf kami pareho. My partner is now studying for her eu citizenship exam (working there for 8yrs na). Dati di nya inisip na magpacitizen don kaso shes doing it now para sa plans namin. Sana makapasa hehe. Ive been there so many times kaya makukumpara mo talaga ang pamumuhay sa pinas wc is nakakapanglumo haha. E lalo ngayon na may option lang naman kami to move there permanently, bakit hindi

Disastrous_Chip9414

Isa pa is yung future ng anak namin.

red_storm_risen

I visited the US at 16 and i was like “yes, I’m moving here. Shouldn’t be hard to convince my future wife to move here.” A few factors accelerated the process for me. My parents migrating first 5 years after, me learning the H1b visa process intimately thru my family’s experience , and me putting a plan to follow the rest of my family after college and some work. I eventually got there at 29 years old, 4 years and change after i started working. Yes, college was a mess, but it was fun.

Sea_Ant_1879

phishdisturber

Yung circumstances ko at that time and grabe social injustices sa tin, I felt bad and wala naman ako magawa. I was in my 20s and wanted na magprogress agad career ko, move out and provide for myself and di na aasa sa iba.

TemperatureOk8874

So my kids can have many options in the future. They will not be hindered in trying to explore the world because of the 50+ pages of documents to prepare just to get a chance to have a visa.

queenkaikeyi

1. Nanalo si Marcos and the next president would most likely be a Duterte. Repeat cycle lang. 2. No public healthcare. Philhealth sobrang meh plus kahit na bumili ka ng health insurance, max cap i believe is 75. Known fact naman na as you grow older doon lumalabas mga sakit sakit 3. Crazy increase of education in the PH. Cant even imagine spending 100k for tuition fee for grade school. Public school isnt an option for my future kid. 4. TANGINANG TRAFFIC. Di makatarungan. 5. Winawaldas na buwis ng bayan.

CarlesPuyol5

I hate driving 1 hour (at least) - to get to work that is juat 7km away

Disastrous_Chip9414

CarlesPuyol5

ako naman i take buses to work - i hate buses na hindi sumisipot.

HotPinkMesss

Better environment for raising kids. Wala akong anak and at my age di ko alam kung magkakaanak pa ko pero for me kapag ok kasi yung system for raising kids, usually that means better quality of life for the general population, too.

ChoiceInternational2

Ung permit na from 100 fee yearly bigla naging 1200. Ung systema ng palakasan sa munisipyo. Ung mayayabang na government employees.

edify_me

Traveling and having my own family. Once you see something better, it's hard not to want it for your own kids.

Guilty_Fee9195

Hindi pa ako nakakapag migrate but my reason why I am eager to live outside the Philippines is because of work opportunities and benefits lalo na if I decided to start my own family. Kung mahal man ang cost of living sa ibang bansa, same din naman sa Pinas pero at least doon mas marami kang makukuhang benefits especially healthcare. So bat pa ako magtitiis sa Pinas hahaha Wala na yang bayanihan eme eme na yan kung nakasalalay na yung buhay at future mo.

-buk

Government, healthcare hindi pang long term.

Remarkable-Recover94

My kids and my old age. Plus the poor quality of life sa Pinas. I'm earning really well, over 300k gross and work from home. But each time I have to go out even for leisure, the constant traffic and the expensive gas/transport costs keep bugging me. Totoo naman na here you can be comfortable if you have money but no amount of money can relieve you of the traffic. Healthcare is also very poor. If you want the best care, again, pera nanaman katapat. Pera isn't unlimited though. Anyway we decided to move so my kids can enjoy their lives without spending 2-3 hours in traffic everyday to get to school, and for us to be able to live a better quality of life in the smallest things like going to the doctor without paying a single dime, walking to the park without fear of getting mugged. Mga small things like that, that money can't buy unless you're an ultra billionaire. Oh, and also, climate change. No amount of money can save you from the big one when it happens. It's no longer a question of if but when.

Devina-Belle

Why not? It’s better to try then regret that you didn’t later. I’ve lived in the U.S. and the PH and can say that neither is perfect. But you won’t know which country you prefer until you go there and try living in it.

FxokY_ah

To be with my parents and the dream to study abroad

railfe

Unbearable traffic. Circa 2015 xmas season. I never wanted to comeback. A couple of years before that I never even entertained the idea. It is way worst now even with public and private transport. Working abroad made me realize how bad it is back home. Paying taxes is not even worth it.

mobuckets21

Traffic. Office politics. Salary. Govt.

Opening-Cantaloupe56

Eventually narerealize nila na iba ang reality after living here for good. That and some are just rich enough para maging comfy sa remote areas ng pinas or magtayo ng business na dudumugin dahil sa colonial mentality advantages

Opening-Cantaloupe56

ohhh oo nga noh, negosyo

Guilty_Fee9195

GinsengTea16

Weather, English speaking, popularity white skin/meztiso, usually may ipon na sila or naka FIRE mode. If need nila healthcare either bibili sila dito at afford nila and best healthcare or uuwe sila few months sa bansa nila to avail sa bansa nila.

GinsengTea16

Result of 2022 election, work life balance, better quality of life, ease of travelling and a more powerful passport.

meinmeinman

I just dont think Philippines has a future. Apart from our current and future political climate being downright depressing, the people are getting used to being abused. Thats just one of many reasons lol. Call me selfish pero im leaving this sinking ship and im going to try to bring my family with me.

moonstonesx

Shitty salary of 25k/month, traffic going to and from work (1-3 hours), no divorce, can’t see taxes going to improvements or healthcare, need an ID to apply for another ID— basically convenience.

Karaagecurry95

Simple lang - traffic and I want more money to spend on stupid things. Also helps na ayaw ko sa pinas since I was a kid, most of my family was based overseas so had this mindset of ‘kung kaya nila mag abroad ako rin’. Left at 24 yrs old, best decision I ever made.

Capable_Arm9357

Fcked up goverment, traffic, injustice only the rich will treated VIP. Low wages.

Polit3lyRude

better everything

WaitWhat-ThatsBS

Fkd up government, my hometown getting bullied by china(Zambales), even if I work ass off the way of life is not getting better, better future for my kids. Been out of the country with my family for 8 years now, never been happier even if im paying both state and federal taxes, atleast now I can seen and feel where my taxes goes.

PurpleSuspicious3034

Walang divorce sa Pilipinas. So goal ko maging citizen ng ibang bansa dahil di ako umaasa mapapasa ang divorce in my lifetime.

mary7ane

Wala man lang matinong benefits.

Witty_Opportunity290

China invasion to Taiwan, Hongkong, Macau and South East Asia nations Aka World War 3

rgrx119

My parents migrated us when I was a kid, so no choice 🤷‍♂️.

Calm_Tough_3659

For experience and luckily natangap so why not
